I don't like the lead in Dracula, have never thought he was very good looking, and I was surprised at how much I liked the pilot..giving it another try tonight.
Having only seen the pilot, I would say that if you like Hannibal there's a good chance you would like Dracula. It has a similar eye for the visual and the same pacing problems.
If you like Hannibal, there is a good chance you will like Dracula as well. I am more intrigued by Dracula's ratings this week than anything else. Given its mixed viewer reaction and the fact that pilots are usually higher, I expect the ratings to go down. The question is by how much. I think it will level out around episode 4.
I haven't actually watched Hannibal yet, although I think I would really like it. Last year I thought it could be cancelled so I didn't want to get invested. During summer, it as a mix of a lot else to watch and not wanting to get invested because I am still uncertain that it could survive this year again. I want to give it a shot at some point but probably next summer only now. Dracula I plan on watching but my weeks are too crowded now, I haven't even been able to watch the premiere of Grimm yet and that takes priority. So I guess Dracula will have to wait, I will keep saving episodes.
As for its ratings tonight, it's Halloween, which should help in this case. I say about 1.5-1.6.
I feel your dilemma there. Definitely get caught up on Grimm before watching Dracula though. It is the superior show. I'm leaning towards a 1.4-1.5. I don't think it will go lower than that but stranger things have happened.
I have really been enjoying The Tomorrow People, even though it clearly is not on the same level as Arrow just yet. The thing we need to remember is that these shows often take its time to get it going. Arrow is the prime example. It had a goof, solid first season but its finale and this year have put it on another level. I think they are willing to stick around with.
TTP has 2 things I absolutely loathe in TV shows, which makes me less confident in it. They have the much dreaded love triangle that makes all characters involved look asinine every time. They also have decided to make Stephen the Chosen One/Boy King, which is a plot that is almost as overdone and cliched as the love triangle is right now. Then they keep rubbing it in our faces about how super special Stephen is. It's a sure cut way to make me dislike the main character. While currently both of these story segments are at tolerable level, I anticipate that that won't be the case in the near future. Add to it that I am not a big Mark Pellegrino fan and Jedikiah has no redeemable characteristics to make me love to hate him like Crowley on Supernatural, and I am worried. This new episode gave me reason to stick with it and I tink it was the best so far, I feel like as a viewer I am walking a tight rope, always in danger of falling off.
Hmm... I don't really have a way to argue with that. I am not as bothered with those plot points as you are, especially the chosen one, which although overused, I still find enjoyable. As for the triangle, my opinion is that it works if it is not shoved down our faces too much and if it doesn't become the main driver of the overall plot of the show. If it is a secondary element, as it currently is, I am fine with it. But I don't understand why they felt that they needed that aspect here with Kara, I really don't think they do. But as I've said, those are perfectly valid reasons so as much as I would like to defend the show, I have to accept them!
However, I had never seen someone disliking Mark Pellegrino, I find that surprising. What is it about him that you dislike if I may ask?
It's less dislike and more that I think he is overrated due to LOST, much in the same way I find Elizabeth Mitchell overrated. I understand liking an actor and then thinking they are perfect in everything they do, since I tend to do that with Mark Sheppard. My first extended length exposure to Mark Pellegrino was as Lucifer on Supernatural in season 5. I thought he did a poor job at it. While the writing definitely was the main issue, MP made acting choices that turned Lucifer, who should be scary, into a joke as well. For me, he was guilty of overplaying the role, and Lucifer was by far my least favorite main villain on the show. I was left feeling that the only reason people were praising him is because he was MP and not based on the job he actually did. In fact, until season 7 with Lucifer's return, I had no idea why anyone liked this guy's acting. Then in season 7, I started seeing some glimpses of why people loved him. I guess for me MP is an actor who has to find the right character in order to sell it, which means that he will always be hit or miss for me.
It's a fair opinion, I have to respect it. I have never seen his job in Supernatural but I like him in everything he has done (Lost, Dexter, Revolution, The Tomorrow People), but I have to respect your opinion, especially because, as I've said, I haven't seen his job in Supernatural to judge him. Also, Elizabeth Mitchell is my favorite actress ahah :P It doesn't mean I will argue that she is the best actress in the world - I don't actually believe in such concept - but she is my favorite, ever since Lost, and is someone that would take a LOT for me not to follow her show.
NOTE: Name-calling, personal attacks, spamming, excessive self-promotion, condescending pomposity, general assiness, racism, sexism, any-other-ism, homophobia, acrophobia, and destructive (versus constructive) criticism will get you BANNED from the party.
Haven all the way, this has been a great season so far. I was worried in the start with the change up but now I'm just excited to see where it goes.

I have turned into such a huge fan of that Arrow and The Tomorrow People pairing, it's one of my favorite pairs of the week.
ReplyDeleteha, but I don't watch Hannibal. Tried 2 eps and gave up on it, so will see how this week goes with Dracula.
ReplyDeleteArrow has been one of the strongest shows I've seen so far this year. I'm more hesistant about TTP but I really liked the last episode.
ReplyDeleteI feel your dilemma there. Definitely get caught up on Grimm before watching Dracula though. It is the superior show. I'm leaning towards a 1.4-1.5. I don't think it will go lower than that but stranger things have happened.
ReplyDeleteYeah, Grimm is definitely higher up on my priorities list than Dracula is!

ReplyDeleteLooks like we were both a little optimistic bout the ratings. Here's hoping at least Grimm ticks up in the finals.

ReplyDeleteHowever, I had never seen someone disliking Mark Pellegrino, I find that surprising. What is it about him that you dislike if I may ask?
Yeah, especially me. I am surprised by how much it felt.
ReplyDeleteHaven, it's only one series, that I see on friday. But I from Russia :)
