Today's Early Overnight Ratings

This table shows the early overnight ratings. These ratings are normally adjusted later in the day when all the ratings have been consolidated to take into account any local preemptions and/or overruns. You can find all the final adjusted numbers in our Ratings Database. (See the About section below for details about ratings)

If you are new to ratings or still confused, we recommend you read this excellent Ratings FAQ.

Early Ratings Analysis

The analysis below is based on the early household numbers and are NOT the same as the numbers that will be posted in the above table later. (See the About section below)

For more information on the Nielsen Ratings see this Wikipedia Entry.

NOTE: The opinions expressed here are NOT those of SpoilerTV but of the Author of this Article, Marc Berman.

Rating/Share
Fox 9.2/14
ABC 8.4/13
NBC 7.9/12
CBS 4.6/ 7
CW 1.0/ 2

———-

-Percent Change from Year-Ago Evening – Monday 10/29/12:
Fox: +441, CW: +100, NBC: +11, CBS: no change, ABC: -13

———-

-Winners:
“The World Series,” Game 5 (Fox), “Dancing With the Stars” (ABC), “The Voice” (NBC), “The Blacklist” (NBC), “Castle” (ABC)

-Honorable Mention:
“How I Met Your Mother” (CBS), “2 Broke Girls” (CBS), “The Big Bang Theory” R (CBS)

-Losers (excluding repeats):
“Hart of Dixie” (CW), “Beauty and the Beast” (CW), “Hostages” (CBS)

———-

-Ratings Breakdown:
Game 5 of “The World Series” (Boston 3, St. Louis 1) led Fox to an unprecedented Monday overnight victory with an estimated 9.2 rating/14 share from 8-11 p.m. (peaking in the 10 p.m. half-hour, with an 11.8/18). But ABC and NBC were also on the map, with the three networks combined totaling a 25.5/39 in primetime. Factor in the 4.6/ 7 for CBS and the Big 4 networks scored a 30.1 overnight household rating. In other words, never underestimate the value of a diversified programming slate on the broadcast networks. There is room for multiple hit shows competing against each other.

The mammoth year-to-year growth for Fox — +441 percent — was a result of an encore of “The X Factor” airing one year earlier.

In the 8-10 p.m. battle of “Dancing With the Stars” on ABC versus “The Voice” on NBC, a 9.1/14 for still healthy “Dancing With the Stars” was 10 percent above the 8.3/13 for “The Voice.” But “The Voice,” of course, will hold a double-digit demo advantage, while “Dancing With the Stars” remains more of an option for the older viewers. Note to departed Nicole “Snooki” Polizzi: not enough of the “Jersey Shore” audience was probably watching, unfortunately. Next week’s edition of “Dancing With the Stars” will feature guest judge Cher in place of Len Goodman.

A solid second behind baseball in the 10 p.m. hour was “The Blacklist” on NBC, with a 7.0/12 (and growth of 27 percent from year-ago occupant “Revolution” – 5.5/ 9 on 10/29/12). Competing “Castle” on ABC scored a comfortable 6.8/11 at 10 p.m., followed by lackluster “Hostages” at CBS at a very last-place 3.3/ 5. One year earlier (and minus baseball in the competitive mix), former occupant “Hawaii Five-O” was considerably stronger at a 5.3/ 8 (on 10/29/12).

Over at CBS, the 8-10 p.m. sitcom block — “How I Met Your Mother” (#4: 5.6/ 9), “2 Broke Girls” (#4: 5.4/ 8), an encore of “The Big Bang Theory” (#4: 5.5/ 8) and “Mom” (#4” 4.7/ 7) — were all on par with their week-ago overnight performances (despite facing “The World Series”). Next week, “Mike & Molly” returns for its fourth season-opener at 9 p.m.

Given the severity of the competition, struggling CW dramas “Hart of Dixie” (#5: 1.2/ 2) and “Beauty and the Beast” (#5: 0.8/ 1) could not gain any traction.

About the Daily Ratings

Each day (except Sunday) during the main TV Season we post the TV Ratings for the previous nights primetime shows for the major broadcast networks (ABC, CBS, CW, FOX, NBC). Cable Network ratings will be added to the Ratings Database.

The first item that gets posted (normally around 2pm GMT) is the early overnight analysis based on the early household numbers (these are not the same as the Total Viewers and 18-49 Demo numbers that are posted later).

Next, if available, we will post the Top 25 Market 18-49 Ratings to give you a rough idea of the ratings to following.

Later on (normally between 4pm-5pm GMT) we post the official early overnight Total Viewers and 18-49 Demo numbers in the table above.

Finally, later in the evening (10pm-11pm GMT) or the following day, the final adjusted ratings numbers are released, these are then posted in the Ratings Database. 1. I´m expecting a season low for Castle today (due to the baseball, not the episode).

  2. Beauty & the beast is dead and need to move on friday.

  3. They could do that midseason and then replace it with The 100/Star Crossed.

    ReplyDelete
  4. So happy about The Blacklist! I still think the husband is up to something...

    ReplyDelete
  5. No point in doing so until midseason when they have replacements unless they are willing to make a direct swap with TCD and I doubt there would be a net positive result of that for the network

    ReplyDelete
  6. Hopefully it didn't fall again

    ReplyDelete
  7. Did it fall last week?

    ReplyDelete
  8. no, it was steady last week.

    ReplyDelete
  9. Oh yes Husband is up for something for sure , and other thing i am intrigued by is the third party who are keeping a watch on both husband and wifey

    ReplyDelete
  10. Happy for The Blacklist.
Also glad that HIMYM is steady in it's last year.

    ReplyDelete
  11. Sorry, what I meant was that hopefully it would be able to not fall, once again, as in, remain steady again :P I realize it was confusing!

    ReplyDelete
  12. That's ok! I went into the data base for last week and the final rating was 3.0 10mil so yeah, hopefully it doesn't adjust down!

    ReplyDelete
  13. Indeed! Yeah, those two guys watching the house. Can't wait to find out who they are and why they are there.I'm sure we won't be finding out anytime soon tho..

  14. At least Mark agrees there is a severe competition on Mondays for CW shows already struggling with ratings. For me, I will enjoy BATB as much as I can, and wont care about the ratings anymore I do know everyone from writers, producers, actors and us the fans have worked our ass.... off for this second season and Im not being biased here since I am fan of different show genres from The Walking Dead, Sleepy Hollow to Masters of Sex etc. and this season BATB is a completely different show quality wise as it was last year. Its a shame no more people tuned in but I guess this year the competition with new shows was much bigger which gives less interest for shows already in the air.

  15. yes, I guess 1.8 or 1.7. and around 9,5 mill.

    ReplyDelete
  16. Go 'The Blacklist'! Second place against Baseball of all things AND a Freshmen show! I expect that this show will be one of the first renewed by NBC come May or possibly sooner

    ReplyDelete
  17. 'The Blacklist' from last week - 6.8/12
'The Blacklist' from this week - 7.0/12

    Up from last week!!!

    ReplyDelete
  18. was the CW pre-empted somewhere? I see HoD had a slight uptick 1.2/1 vs 1.1/1.....

    ReplyDelete
  19. Good for Blacklist.
Don't really care about Hostages' ratings anymore since CBS won't pull it off the schedule.

    ReplyDelete
  20. You should disregard household measures even more for the cw than for the rest of the channels since they provide very little indication concerning the direction of the 18-49 ratings.

    ReplyDelete
  21. Trust me I know. I was trying an attempt at humor. I doubt Hod or BatB went up any in demo.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Agree 100%. At this point its basically just enjoying it while we can and not bitch about ratings, because it makes it more enjoyable when you dont worry about the haters.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Happy for The Blacklist but I was kind of disappointed with the episode though. Was hoping for some epic fighting and what not maybe even Mr and Mrs Smith style.

    ReplyDelete
  24. How I Met Your Mother and Mom dropped a tenth and two-tenths respectively. 2 Broke Girls and Hostages rose a tenth each.

The Blacklist rose a tenth while Castle rose two tenths. That's great against the world series for both shows.

Beauty and the Beast and Hart of Dixie were even with last week.

  26. Pretty standard night. I am very happy that the blacklist appears to have stabilized though, those are excellent news! How I Met Your Mother is still doing very good and good old Castle is more and more a good player for ABC. The Voice is still a monster.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Yeah Castle rose two tenth :D

    ReplyDelete
  28. I am surprised by lack of downvotes from the "beasties".

    ReplyDelete
  29. NBC – The Blacklist

    Viewers: 11.17 million (#2), A18-49: 3.3/ 8 (#2)

That'd be AWESOME if it gets those numbers again!

    ReplyDelete
  30. Actually, according to tvbn, it was preempted in St.Louis (I have no idea how big of a market it is).

    ReplyDelete
  31. With those half-numbers (2.2/1.9) I´m expecting Castle to adjust down to a 2.0, but it´s still up from last week:) Probably DWTS overruned by 1 minute?
The adjustments, or not, for Blacklist I think depends if TV had an overrun...

isn't that good ??? the lack of downvotes...I'm a beastie myself but I've never downvoted anyone... I know the ratings are not good ...and yes I do want them to get better but that's the truth for now....ratings are not good... plus I don't think that any of us would like to '' drug the attetion '' by downvoting..- it's just my oppinion , hope you agree with me
