Scene Of The Week - September 22, 2013 - *POLL*

22 Sept 2013

A weekly feature in which we're trying to find most compelling, best acted, written, directed and just generally great scenes that we've seen recently.

BOARDWALK EMPIRE, "Resignation", September 15, 2013, Actors: Katherine Waterson, Jack Huston
The Scene: Emma Harrow asks Richard to kill her sick dog
Darth Locke:
I loved this scene, because Richard couldn't do it, no doubt stemming back to the time where a dog stopped Richard from committing suicide, but his sister takes the gun and does it instead! Jack Huston's performance is better than ever. Emma is also an interesting character for this 4th season.

BONES, "The Secrets in the Proposal", September 16, 2013, Actors: David Boreanaz, Emily Deschanel
The Scene: Booth and Brennan reconcile
Justyna Kubica:
After quite a disappointing season 8 finale, the show is one of the first to return this fall. And I have to say, even though I didn't love the premiere, it wasn't as bad as I predicted. Both David and Emily were absolutely fantastic. And happily, in one of my favorite scenes this week Bones and Booth reconciled. After everything they've been through I think everyone should have more faith in Booth (Really, Angela?). Anyway, it was a lovely moment and I can't wait for the two to finally get married. It's good to see them on the same side. Also, it seemed like a big step for Brennan and I love it.
Virginia Fontana: Brennan is able to have faith that Booth must have his reasons for ending their engagement; a big step for her as a skeptic.

BREAKING BAD, "Ozymandias", September 15, 2013, Actors: Bryan Cranston, Anna Gunn, RJ Mitte, Dean Norris
The Scenes: Walt, Skyler and Walt Jr. fight over a knife & Hank's death
Max Conte:
Hank being shot and killed by Tod's uncle in the desert & Walt's reaction. Hank's final moments were badass (and shocking, and depressing) and Walt was seriously crushed when he saw his brother-in-law killed.
Alex Zhora: Walt, Skyler and Walt Jr. fight over a knife.

COVERT AFFAIRS, "Levitate Me", September 17, 2013, Actors: Piper Perabo, Christopher Gorham, Hill Harper, Oded Fehr
The Scenes: Eyal shows up & The ending scene with Annie and Auggie & Annie fakes her death
Virginia Fontana:
Eyal! OMG! Who didn't squee when Annie's Mossad friend showed up to help her fake her death? Brilliantly done.
Robin Smyth: The ending scene with Annie and Auggie. It was such a nice parallel to last year and this time they said they love each other!
Diana Mack: Annie fakes her death in the elevator. Great moment in slow motion, with a great music playing in the background!

DEXTER, "Monkey in a Box", September 15, 2013, Actors: Michael C. Hall, Jennifer Carpenter
The Scene: Dexter and Deb have a warm exchange before they part ways (picked by Darth Locke)

RAY DONOVAN, "Bucky Fuckn' Dent", September 15, 2012, Actor: Liev Schreiber
The Scene: Ray kills the priest (picked by Alex Zhora and DarkUFO)

SIBERIA, "... Into the Oven", September 18, 2013
The Scene: The final scene of the series
Sharon Seymour:
A real WTF moment. "You're not supposed to be here"

SLEEPY HOLLOW, "Pilot", September 16, 2013, Actors: Tom Mison, Nicole Beharie
The Scenes: Abbie/Ichabod find Dunn's dead body & Abbie tells Ichabod the story from her past & The end scene with the mirror & Ichabod and the lie detector test & Abbie saves Ichabod from the mental institution
Virginia Fontana:
The scene when Abbie tells Ichabod she knows what it's like when no one believes you. A strong relationship is already developing between these two, and I can't wait to watch it unfold.
Sharon Seymour: Abbie/Ichabod find Dunn's dead body.
Klutzy Girl: The end scene with the mirror. It was so creepy and amazing at the same time. I can't wait to see what that this show does next.
Diana Mack: The scene in the mirror in which detective Abby looks into it and a picture of a demon appears... really scary!
A Dahne: Almost every scene from Sleepy Hollow was great but my pick is Ichabod and the lie detector test. It was funny and gave startling information about the character. The cop administering it was delightfully deadpan. All in all a great scene in a great pilot.
Laurent Derré: The mirror scene made me jump... I really did not see that coming !
Darth Locke: Abbie comes and saves Ichabod from the mental institution just in time!

SUITS, "Stay", September 17, 2013, Actor: Rick Hoffman
The Scene: Louis' discovery at the end
Diana Mack:
At the end of the episode, Louis finds out Mike Ross's file isn't included in the files of the firm. I have to say: it was about time!

THE BRIDGE, "Take the Ride, Pay the Toll", September 18, 2013, Actors: Diane Kruger, Demián Bichir, Matthew Lillard, Eric Lange
The Scene: Marco, Daniel and Kenneth on the bridge
Sharon Seymour:
Marco, Daniel and Kenneth on the bridge. Very dramatic and tense conclusion to this story arc culminating in Sonya shooting both Marco and Kenneth.
Laurent Derré: I watched the original version of The Bridge, Bron/Broen, so I knew the conclusion but I was not sure if the americans would take the risk because it is a very harsh ending. Well FX did it and the last heartbreaking minutes of the episode overwhelmed me, just like Bron did it.
Alex Zhora: Sonya shoots Marco
Also picked by DarkUFO

THE NEW GIRL, "All In", September 17, 2013, Actors: Zooey Deschanel, Jake Johnson, Max Greenfield, Lamorne Morris
The Scene: Jess, Schmidt and Winston pick up Nick in "jail"
Pablozky21:
The scene where Jess, Schmidt and Winston pick up Nick in "jail". I just thought the scene was a perfect way to show us how well all these characters work together; having Nick expressing his fear of lossing Jess was sweet, and even more so the moment when Jess told him that they are all a family and even though it would be hard for them to be a couple, she's ready to endure it for the sake of being with everyone and keep their relationship going. These are the kinds of moments in comedy in which you know you are seeing something worth your time.
Jamie Coudeville: Jess' speech at the end - I loved her little speech about how she got a great deal on Craig's List. I love their group dynamic and hope we get more great scenes with all four of them.

THE NEWSROOM, "Election Night, Part II", September 15, 2013, Actors: Jeff Daniels, Emily Mortimer, Thomas Sadoski, Olivia Munn
The Scenes: Sloan kisses Don & Will proposes to Mac
Justyna Kubica:
There were so many amazing scenes in this episode that I honestly don't know which one I liked best. I picked this one quite randomly or maybe just to say how much I adored the change in both Sloan and Don's characters this season and in the relationship between them. I can't remember when I started to root for Don, but in the last couple of episodes I think he was my favorite. I love the moments when he underlines the absurdity of the fact that even though Genoa is clearly Jerry Dantana's fault, he still gets to sue the ACN and Don. And Sloan's need to correct the mistake with the book was pretty great, especially when she realized it was Don all along. And she had the best reaction ever. "What I have can't be taught!" Nice one, Don. I have high hopes for these two. And as for my other favorite scenes, I loved both the engagement and the announcement, also Don's own lawsuit and Reese's “History should reflect that I acted admirably”. It was just an incredible episode in general.
Klutzy Girl: Will proposes to Mac. It was cute and definitely unexpected.

UNDER THE DOME, "Curtains", September 16, 2013, Actors: Rachelle Lefevre, Mike Vogel, Alexander Koch and others
The Scene: Julia drops the egg in the water
Klutzy girl:
The scene where Julia drops the egg in the water. The sky was really pretty once it got lit up and was pink.
Jamie Coudeville: I loved the special effects here. The cliffhanger was the most exciting moment for me all season.
Daniel van der Veer: Julia drops the egg in the water and the dome drops its "curtains". This was just a beautiful scene!
Also picked by Babar Suhail

  1. I would probably add one of the scenes from Sleepy Hollow to my picks, but a) I couldn't pick one and b) I figured there were already enough people writing about it :)

  2. Honorable mention: Will introducing Mac as his future wife to their co-workers. First of of all, because he's right in the fact that the name won't work and then everyone's delayed, shocked reaction to the news.

The Mindy Project: Danny goes out onto the fire escape to talk to Mindy. Gah, he loves her so much!

  3. There's no way, Breaking Bad has to win this. But The Newsroom's finale was quite cute and a breath of fresh air in the middle of all the killing from Dexter, Breaking Bad and Boardwalk.

  4. Sleepy Hollow - Abby bails Ichabod out of the mental institution, the end scene with the mirror, and the headless horseman at the church - the fight to get his head. I love this show already.

Under The Dome - Julia drops the egg in the water.

  5. This is not a competition, so there is now "winner".

  6. Several scenes from Breaking Bad. We all knew Hank was going to die, but his last line to Walt, about his being the smartest man he ever knew but too stupid to realize Jack made up his mind ten minutes ago, was priceless. Marie confronting Skyler and then forcing her to confess to Walt, Jr., whose reaction was riveting.

The Bridge, Sonya racing to Marco to tell him that they found Gus and lying about his death.

  7. Every scene in Breaking Bad, every damn scene from the opening flashback to the intense phone call at the end. But also The Bridge had a very good heartbreaking episode, especially the scene between Marco and Sonya in the hospital.

  8. Walt telling the truth about Jane's death to Jesse. I didn't see that coming.

  9. All Breaking Bad scenes were amazing!

  10. The fact that Hank's Death is not 1st with 200 votes shows how stupid people on this site actually are. That was one of the best scenes TV has ever scene but you people are to fucking stupid to see it.

  12. I don't think there's a reason why you should call anyone stupid. I'm sure it was a great scene, but some people, including me, just don't watch/like the show. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion.

  13. I was going to add the scene in Under the Dome where Linda gets shocked by the Disco Egg for the mere fact that it kept her character from doing or saying something idiotic for a whole 3 minutes, but I figured that wasn't enough reason to nominate it as scene of the week. It was by default the scene of that episode though for me given that the final was so anticlimactic and weak.''In the end, I chose the 3 Sleepy Hollow choices because the end scene with the mirror and finding Dunn's body was the same scene. I also did not chose Abbie telling Ichabod about her past since that was one of the few slow moments in he pilot for me.

  14. LOL at your Linda pick. I agree with you on that. In fact, I actually DID like the last couple of episodes of the show (surprising, I know), but the finale was just so disappointing that I didn't even consider picking a scene from it for the article.

  15. RE: Mindy - I know, right? When Tamra told Danny that everyone was visiting Mindy in the hospital and he RAN to go see her, I could not stop grinning like an idiot. They'll get together: it's only a matter of time.

  16. Yes, that moment was amazing too!

  17. I think that the episode before would have made a much better season finale, given that it had a cliffhanger and made me want to see what happens next. Now I am more humdrum about it. I know Barbie is going to survive, the pink stars didn't do anything, and I am tired of having characters I like die while the annoying ones are on screen ALL the time.

  18. Breaking Bad - Ozymandias. The whole damn episode! Nothing beside remains...

  19. Deb getting shot...despite it being totally predictable. I have been waiting for this for 8 seasons

  20. I was surprised to like almost everything about Sleepy Hollow. The hardest thing for me this week for the article was choosing just one scene to highlight.

  21. Linda has officially made my big 4 list of people I want to die in Chester's Mill for being so annoying that any time they are on screen I wonder why I am watching it again. Julia is pushed to #4, Angie #3 (except when she's with Barbie because then she isn't completely useless), Linda now takes second place, and king and still reigning champ is Junior. Man, I wish he would die.

  22. Breaking Bad-(in addition to the 2 scenes already up there) the phone call!!!

  23. Yep! I'm glad we had a few to choose from.I found i had a really hard time picking one in the Sleepy Hollow poll you did,and for the same reason! I don't remember the last time i enjoyed a pilot so much...I can't wait for tonight's episode!!!

  24. Loved every minute of Sleepy Hollow, seriously!

It was great seeing Eyal whisking Annie to safety,i knew she wasn't killed but i wasn't sure how she was going to get out of there....

  25. Breaking Bad's Hank death.

  26. LOL, Linda is so stupid that I've literally started to hate her.
