It's all over. Done. Finished.
After 8 seasons, 96 episodes, and countless victims, Dexter Morgan has taken his final bow.
Season 8 has been a mixed bag, to say the very least. With all due respect to those who have been enjoying it...It should've been so much more. What started with so much potential and intrigue, dissipated into unfocused story lines, lazy pacing, and a lack of emotional weight. This being the final season, there shouldn't have been a wasted moment.
Maybe time will be kinder to Season 8 down the road, but its not about the first 11 episodes anymore... It's about the BIG one. Either the finale puts the nail in the season, or it goes out on a emotional and intense high.
As always, you'll find NO SPOILERS for the finale here. But I'll do you all a kindness and debunk a few rampant details...
No Quinn becomes the new Dexter.
No Matthews kills Dexter.
No bodies washing up on shore.
That's the only spoilers I know or will address.
So how IS the episode?
Dexheads... I really don't know what to say.
At exactly 10:00pm ET on Sunday, September 22nd... The *beep* will hit the fan.
Emotional without emotion. Clever without being logical. Urgent without being intense. A little bit brilliant, a whole lotta stupid, an interesting conclusion, and an unsatisfying experience. In other words...
It's a mess. But when it hits, there's moments that stuck in your brain. Unfortunately these moments are too few and far between.
We finally get a Saxon that's insanely menacing. If THIS guy showed up in Episode 5 or 6, we'd have a villain worth getting excited over. Too little too late. His fate can be debated as clever, stupid, or anticlimactic.
Our cast does solid work, but nobody particularly swings for the fences. Given the emotional stakes, MCH is particularly subdued in certain key moments. Considering these season has been about Dexter embracing deep feelings and emotion, it's a unique choice for the actor and character. But this is the detail that intrigues me the most.
There's no doubt the episode has a lot of problems, and its going to be like Christmas for the haters, but what the ending has to say about the character of Dexter will be the hot topic of the day. Some will love the final resolution, some will call it the ultimate cop out, while others will question it's intention and meaning. It's not Sopranos vague by any stretch, but the final moment of the entire series has a unique impact.
When the end credits appear, there's definitely a feeling that Episode 12 should've been better. You can't shake the feeling of convenient logicr and questionable decisions. But after it begins to simmer in your brain, the good, and sometimes great, rises to the surface. Like Dexter, who is in constant conflict with his emotions and intentions, so is the finale.
I was intrigued, I was disappointed, I was touched emotionally, I was completely pissed off, I thought it showed flashes of brilliance and moments of absolute stupidity. I want to forget it, but it stayed with me.
A fitting and poignant end for the character of Dexter Morgan. A questionable, and debatable, end for the series.
Cut to black
EDIT: Ok. I watched it again. A lot of the same problems, but... When you realize what the episode is trying to say, Michael C Hall's performance in the last act is beautifully done.

Update: 6th September Thanks to Darthlocke for the heads up on this new set of spoilers as reported by LA Times. Again we have no real way of knowing.
Read at your risk!
Now a leak from Reddit has some ominous findings about the characters and supposedly reveals the fate of each character. We're warning you now--if you read the rest of this, you will stumble upon some major spoilers! First off, Dexter does not die. Happy? Don't get too excited because according to the supposed spoilers, Deb dies in the show. Deb's death leads Dexter to quit his serial killing profession and to move away with Hannah and Harrison. As for Quinn, he becomes the next Dexter.
According to the entry, Dexter and Harrison will be on their way to Brazil while Hannah is being followed by Elway. Dexter is receiving phone calls from Quinn, but he ignores it, as he has a fake bomb threat to make (to get Elway off Hannah's back) and to fix Harrison's wounds. Once Dexter picks up Quinn's call, he learns that Deb has been hurt. "Dexter tries to talk again but Quinn again interrupts him. "It's bad Dex..." and it sounds like Quinn starts crying. Dexter tries to calm Quinn down, but even his voice his shaky as he asks how bad," writes the supposed Showtime employee. "Dexter's inner voice comments on how annoying all these newfound emotions have been ever since he saw Vogel killed in front of him. Quinn responds barely fighting back more tears, saying that "They don't think she'll make it through the night.""
Dexter updates Hannah and returns to the hospital where everyone is there for Deb. Elway shows up and tells Dexter he thinks Deb was working with Hannah, which causes Dexter to explode. Quinn takes Dexter to an empty x-ray lab and tells him that Saxon was captured and that he didn't tell anyone because Saxon deserves to be killed. Quinn admits that he always had a hunch about Dexter's ways but was convinced during the Travis Marshall case. "[Quinn] tells Dexter how he sees the good in it, even going as far as saying Dexter has done more meaningful things than Quinn ever has," writes the anonymous poster. "Dexter falls back into a chair and starts bawling. He tells Quinn everything, how he let Doakes take the fall for BHB, how Deb found out, how Deb killed Laguerta to protect him, and how he could not kill Saxon and has totally lost his urge to kill because of Hannah, and that he was planning on leaving the country with her."
Quinn tells Dexter he will do the killing and Dexter gives him the M99. With Dexter's tools with him, Quinn goes to kill Saxon. Upon capturing Saxon, Quinn learns that Saxon killed Deb for no good reason. Dexter finally goes in to Deb's room before her surgery. While Deb undergoes surgery, Quinn works on killing Saxon. Quinn ultimately kills Saxon and Deb flatlines, and the doctors are unable to resuscitate her.

Update: 26th August A Massive thanks to HollaDollar from TWoP for make a large number of edits and updates to try to help clear up the information that was originally posted.
Episode 10 Title, "Goodbye Miami" Thanks to Fred222 for the info!
Synopsis: Dexter enlists Dr. Vogel's help to lure the Brain Surgeon to a location in order to get him on the table. Later, an important person in Dexter's life is murdered before his eyes.
Dex tells Miami Metro that he is leaving. Vogel dies in this episode, the final scene has Vogel dead w/ her throat slit only Dexter & Saxon are there. More info from 10: In episode 10, Quinn meets with Debra at a cafe with roller-skating waitresses, and she tells him Dexter is leaving Miami. In another scene, Quinn and Jamie are having a meal at Angel's beach cafe. The new Marshal, Clayton (who's tracking Hannah), shows up at Deb's beach house while Deb and Hannah are both there. Miami Metro investigates a hit & run accident next to a fountain, with a dead cyclist lying in the middle of the street, and Dex and Batista have a long talk, and then they hug: it is possible Dex was telling Batista that he was leaving. Then there's the going-away party for Dex, full of Miami Metro types, at Angel's cafe. Finally, there's a scene at a dock (supposedly outside Miami Metro), where Quinn & Deb talk & kiss. Dex also sets up a kill room for the Brain Surgeon-Saxon but he can't quite get him on the table.
UPDATE 8-26-13 In episode 11: "Monkey in a Box" Thanks to Lauren & Fred222!
SYNOPSIS: Dexter is torn between fleeing the country with Hannah and Harrison, and taking Saxon out once and for all.
I'm not sure about the exact order of these scenes but here goes:
As we know, Vogel is killed at the end of Ep10 by Saxon and her funeral takes place in Ep. 11. Vogel basically dies in Dex's arms and he has to use Vogel's sink to clean the blood off his hands.
Dex tries to sell his boat to a guy who is only interested in the size of the beer cooler. He wants to get the boat inland before Hurricane Laura hits. The guy passes on purchasing the boat.
There's a mental/psych hospital scene where Dex is wearing his kill suit walking through the halls until he comes to a kill room that he recognizes from a video that Saxon made while killing Zach. This is in an abandoned psych hospital that Saxon uses as his lair.
There is a scene at Dex's apartment w/ just Deb & Dex. Dex dexides that Astor can have his car after the storm passes by. While the TV is on MUTE, playing in the background, a pic of Saxon flashes on the local news and states that he is wanted in connection with several murders. Dex leaked some evidence that implicated Saxon in even more crimes than Saxon actually committed. Dex asks Deb to leave his apartment and to go hide elsewhere b/c he fears Saxon will come looking for him. Saxon sees this same news flash while at a gas station and hurries off.
After seeing his face on the news, Saxon goes after Dex in Dex's apartment (think ITK style), and it looks bad for Dex, but then Saxon feels Deb's gun at the back of his head and Deb says, "Suprise, mother -", just like Doakes. From here, I BELIEVE this is where Dex & Deb take Saxon back to the psych hospital where Dex planned to kill him. However, before getting Saxon on the table, Dexter loses his urge to kill! After losing his urge to kill, Dex decides to leave Saxon tied up so Deb and MMPD can come arrest him. Dex and Deb have a heart to heart. Dex also decides to leave his knives behind w/ Saxon so Saxon will end up getting credit for many, many more murders (all the ones Dex committed and the BHB murders, most likely). Dex tells Deb that he will no longer need his tools as he plans to start a new life w/ Hannah in South America. They share a long hug. A bit later, Harry appears and says something like "I never thought I'd see this day you don't have an urge to kill". It is then made clear to viewers that Harry will DISAPPEAR FROM THE SERIES!!!. Dex returns to his apartment to pack & pick up Harrison. They say goodbye to Jamie and Dex locks his apartment door and heads off to meet Hannah at the airport. Harrison is carrying a rolling panda bear suitcase.
Clayton shows up at the hospital (presumably looking for Hannah) and finds Saxon; he unknowingly unties a wanted Saxon. Saxon returns the favor by killing Clayton in Ep 11. Elway is following-tracking Hannah at the airport in Ep. 11. Dexter and Harrison are at a different location in the airport at this time.
Sorry for the confusion, scenes are filmed out of order and some info is secondhand so it is difficult to follow at times.
Note: Earlier it was said the episode ends w/ Saxon breaking into Deb's apartment but that is not true. Come to think of it, this info further discredits trash432 as he claimed that Saxon broke into Debs apartment as part if his spoilers...
1. The "suprise motherf__ker" scene where Deb comes up behind Saxon inside Dex's apartment.
2. Harrison and Dexter leaving Dex's apartment one final time and Harrison is carrying his rolling panda bear suitcase; it is hard to see in the still shot but you can tell he's rolling a suitcase when you watch the video.
Original Post
These have been floating around the net for a few weeks now. I waited to post them here to see how the early episode spoilers stacked up in terms of accuracy.
The first few are for episodes that have now aired, I've included them so that you can see just how accurate they were. As you can see they pretty much nailed the early episodes.
I strongly advise that you DON'T READ THESE if you want to remain unspoiled but for those that do, please take with a grain of salt as we can't 100% guarantee their accuracy.
If you do read them, let us know what you think in the comments below.
A big thanks to HollaDollar from TWoP for collating all these together in once place.
Episode 8.06, "A Little Reflection"
In episode 6, "A Little Reflection" Hannah drugs Dex & Deb. Just prior to passing out, Dex sees Hannah & she says something like "remember me?" Quinn pulls up immediately after Dex m99s Zach Hamilton and says "I know what you're doing" but he just thinks Dex is spying on Zach- b/c Quinn is also trying to spy on Zach. He does not see them99ing. It's set up that Elway wants to spy on his brother-in-law because he knows that he's cheating on his sister. When the guy hits on Deb and Elway freaks out, it looks like he's doing it because this scumbag is a cheater, but Deb somehow takes his freak out as that he likes her. Dexter has Zach H on his table...but ends up not killing him...similar to how Dexter didn't kill Hannah...but without the sex part. Saxon makes a brief appearance in Ep 6, he is probably the real Brain Surgeon.
Harrison lies about hiding the TV remote. When Dex confronts him about it, he says "Daddy lies", and then pulls out the bloodstained stuffed dog toy that Dexter got blood on. Harrison saw Dex throw it away in the garbage, and Harrison took it back.
Episode 8.07 - "Dress Code"
In episode 7, "Dress Code" another new character named Saxon appears- I'm not sure if he's an ex GF of Cassie (Dex's new neighbor) or what, but he will play a significant role in the remainder of the season. Saxon will end up having some relationship to Vogel, probably a son. Saxon will likely frame Zach Hamilton for Cassie's murder- originally it was though Zach murdered Cassie but not anymore. Dex starts teaching Zach the Code in this episode and also tries to find out why Hannah is in Miami. Turns out Julian Sands is Hannah's husband(I was right to notice a huge ring on her left hand in set pics), a very wealthy guy she married to survive as a fugitive. He is said to be very controlling and knows all about Hannah's past ie: her murders. Sounded like he has her under his thumb. Sands doesn't make it out of the episode. His last scene is Dexter and Hannah dumping him overboard on the Slice of Life. Deb knows Hannah drugged her in ep 6 and actually isn't that upset. She makes it seem that being all "Hannah needs to die or Hannah needs to be behind bars" would put her back on the path that she went on at the end of season 7 when she killed Laguerta. Harrison overhears that Hannah is back and seems excited, looks like he still remembers her. Dexter and Hannah still profess love for one another. I didn't ask for every single detail how we get from her drugging him and Deb to them admitting that they still love each other, I'll post more if I get more details. .
Episode 8.08 - "Are We There Yet"
Episode 8, "Are We There Yet", Dex tries to help Hannah leave the country, and tries to track down Zach Hamilton b/c he wrongly believes that Zach killed Cassie.
Episode 8.09 - "Make Your Own Kind of Music"
Ep. 9:" Make Your Own Kind of Music"- Dex investigates a murder that hits close to home....Dexter investigates a murder. Meanwhile, Vogel gets the surprise of her life when someone from her past returns.
-Dex investigates a murder that hits close to home... this is likely Zach Hamilton's murder- killed by Saxon. Meanwhile, Vogel gets the surprise of her life when someone from her past returns- she discovers Saxon is related to her. Dex and Vogel search Zach's studio and possibly find evidence of Saxon killing Zach. Deb considers returning to MMPD &'smooches Quinn. Ep opens w/ Dex & Hannah spooning in a bed.
Earlier I said Dex might find a video of Zach's death while searching his studio... The video will appear in a later episode- it'll be a lot like the vid of Sussman being forced to kill that guy earlier in the season.
Episode 8.10 - "Goodbye Miami"
Episode 10 Title, "Goodbye Miami"- Dex tells Miami Metro that he is leaving & they have a going away party @ Angel's bar. The new Marshal, Clayton (who's tracking someone for Elway), shows up at Deb's beach house while Deb and Hannah are both there.
Episode 8.11 - "Monkey in a Box"
In episode 11: "Monkey in a Box" Dex tries to sell his boat to a guy who is only interested in the size of the beer cooler. He wants to get the boat inland before Hurricane Laura hits. The guy passes on purchasing the boat.
There's a hospital scene where Dex is wearing his kill suit walking through the halls until he comes to a kill room that he recognizes from one of Zach Hamilton's video or a video that Saxon made while killing Zach, I'm really confused about this. FYi, Zach is the young protege that Dex tries to tutor. He makes his first appearance in Episode 5.
There's a scene back at Dex's apartment w/ Deb & maybe Astor & Cody, Dex tells Astor that she can have his car after the storm passes by. Deb & Dex have a heart to heart and seems as though Dex is planning to leave Miami, I assume again, and Deb talks about going back to being a cop. At that point a pic of Saxon flashes on the local news and states that he is wanted in connection with several murders. I guess Dex leaked some evidence that implicated Saxon in some crimes
At some point, Saxon goes after Dex, and it looks bad for Dex, but then Saxon feels Deb's gun at the back of his head and Deb says, "Suprise, mother -", just like Doakes. Nonetheless, Saxon ends up getting away and the last scene of the episode is Saxon breaking into Debs beach house, possibly as she is home packing, getting ready to leave to meet Dex, Hannah & Harrison is South America.
Vogel dies in 11 & this is when the funeral takes place.
Episode 8.12 "Remember the Monsters"
EDITOR NOTES: There appears 2 different set of spoilers for the final episodes. Below is the first one from the poster who posted the above.
Dex, Hannah & Harrison go to the airport presumably to leave for South America, but Dex becomes convinced that security is too tight and Hannah will not be able to get through (maybe?) so he phones in a bomb threat to clear the airport and the three of them leave and head to a bus station maybe... Upon arrival at the bus station, It's possible that Dex learns that Deb is in the hospital and he leaves to go help her... Later in the episode Dex is seen carrying Deb from a stretcher down to his boat w/ Deb covered by a sheet.
Here are some more that appeared on Reddit and then were later deleted.
WARNING: MASSIVE MAJOR MONSTER SPOILER BELOW
Deb is not at a hospital. She is at Saxon's mental hospital. He's got her. This helps play in with mirroring season one. Dex rushes there and finds he is too late. Sax killed her. Harry re-appears after the argument in the previous episode. Tells Dex it his fault, should have killed Sax. Dex looks at his phone and sees several missed calls from Deb. He destroys his phone by hurling it at a wall. Dex decides he is going after Saxon and doing what he should have done all along. Hannah pleads with him to let it go, that Elway is closing in and they have to get out of Miami NOW before Laura makes shore. Dex has already made up his mind though. Sax has Debs phone, knows police will track it."
Deb really does die in the finale. The last spoken line in the finale is something about legacy, which is followed by nearly 5 minutes of no dialogue, then credits. The series does not end w/ Dex driving out to sea in a hurricane. After finding Deb dead, Hannah begs Dex to just leave for a number of reasons, including the impending storm and the fact that Elway & Marshal Clayton are closing in on her. The scene at the Argentina cafe is all in Dexter's head- a what it could've been moment. The finale episode is very dark, similar to the first season- Trash432 surmises that the writers have probably known all along how things would end. After you see the end, if you go back and re watch the season you notice a ton of little clues, foreshadowing, etc. and you'll kick yourself for not recognizing what the writers were getting at. Events starting in episode 9 really get the ball rolling for the finale.

OMG I DON'T WANT TO READ IT AND AT THE SAME TIME I WANT TO x)
ReplyDeleteI'm going to be a wreck when this ends.
ReplyDeleteShame, Deb was my favourite character. Oh well, it had to end anyway.
ReplyDeleteOK. Conflict? First one character death seems to be slated for episode 10 according to Showtime's official synopsis, even if the funeral is in episode 11. So not sure how accurate that is.
ReplyDelete***Talking Vaguely About Last Episode Spoilers***
About the two endings....The thing with female character's possible demise. The pictures from the finale set report with this character on board the other male character's boat may discredit that the character is dead or dies, as character is seen in two sets of wardrobe on boat scenes. I don't disagree that the series could end dark, but there's not enough clarity there to suggest if there are loose ends for Hannah and Harrison or not, but I'm hopeful.
Yep, the various spoilers are hard to piece together after the original reddit thread was removed.
ReplyDeleteIt appears that the person did provide an update allegedly fixing the death to episode 10 and not 11.
From what I can tell this person was on set a lot so they might not have known which episode a particular scene was from.
Be interesting to see after Episode 8.10 to see how those detailed spoilers stack up.
Ya!!! For serious! XD (and thanks for the info about episode 10 & 11)
ReplyDeleteSo, Dex will survive?
ReplyDeleteAnd about Saxon? Dex will kill Saxon?
ReplyDeleteAssuming Hannah either gets caught or gets away, what about HARRISON? How exactly does Dexter leave Harrison in all of this? With Hannah????
ReplyDeleteBut they could still con us for the Finale.
ReplyDeleteYes, do you have any problem? Don't you read?
ReplyDeleteThis reddit guy claimed to be a relative of someone who works on the show but also claimed to have seen the last episode. He also wrote on DD and deleted his account there. Obviously fake Spoilers.
ReplyDeleteApparantly on reddit his account was suspended.
ReplyDelete"
TRASH432 broke his silence & states he did not delete his reddit account- reddit suspended him... I'd not know what the truth is w/ this, but keep it in mind.
"
On DD he deleted his account. It was obviously fake.
ReplyDeleteI guess we'll find out in a few weeks.
ReplyDeleteI don't care who dies. Does Dexter live????????????????????????????????????????
ReplyDeleteThis was copied fromHollaMcDollar at TwOP!
ReplyDeleteYes, we linked to all the places where this had been posted at the bottom of the post
ReplyDeleteAll of those places ripped info from HollaMcDollar's TWOP posts... I've sent you a email. Thanks.
ReplyDeleteI can explain all of this; please reply to my email that I just sent when you get a chance. .
ReplyDeleteIt seems like it. ---The actor who plays Saxon recently did an interview and it almost sounds like he isn't apart of the final scene(s) (possibly implying Dexter kills him and then there are still more scenes), but I would think that Dex wouldn't let that go.
ReplyDeleteSure! And to some degree I hope we do get conned! :)
ReplyDeleteMy theory for most of the season has been that Hannah will take Harrison and run. (end of one cycle, beginning of another + motherhood themes) And this is the plot of the spin off....
ReplyDeleteSome of these synopsis do seem to indicate that Hannah is with Harrison for part of the duration of the final episode anyways, but it is very very vague about what exactly happens after he finds "such and such" dead.
But also just from what's written here, I could see Dexter loosing it, switch dark passenger and then turn around and go after (and blame) Hannah in which the Marshall or Elway witness him murdering her. -But again it isn't clear if the Marshall or Elway are after Dexter as well and/or if Saxon ever informs Miami Metro about Dexter, since he seems to know that he's TBHB (First Brain piece sent in to Vogel in butcher paper)...But Miami Metro is hardly mentioned in these reports either, which I also find suspicious. There's also the prospect of Miles Castor's family and thugs to consider...There is a lot I think that is still at large IMO.
Are you aware that you just said you don't care who dies and then asked if someone died or not in the same post?
ReplyDeleteDifferent spoilers I read indicated that old Dexter would also get killed. It would end with Harrison getting his very own dark passenger Dexter.
ReplyDeletefans be crazy like that<<< don't be so serious.
ReplyDeletealso one would understand from that it was basically "I don't care who dies but Dexter, So, does Dexter live???
I don't expect to see MCH in the spin off due to one of Scott Buck's new projects with Showtime, the American Dream Machine, in which MCH will be executive producing, as he has done for 6 Ft. Under and Dexter, which leads me to think he'll most likely be cast as well...
ReplyDeleteHaha, yeah, I know :P I was kidding ^.^ Good question though, hehe
ReplyDeleteI don't see MCH ever coming near Dexter again. The man wants to move on. And he said if he does appear in American Dream Machine at all, it will be in a supporting role for a limited arc.
ReplyDelete***SPOILERS***
ReplyDelete-

Yeah. Also this business of throwing his phone (with so-and-so's missed calls) would mean that Dex is out of touch with Hannah during a crucial time. He won't know if she got away, at least till he gets another phone.
Oh lord, yes!!
ReplyDeleteI'm sorry this is all so confusing so *WARNING* spoiler coming up ahead...
ReplyDeleteDebra dies and what happens to Dexter and Hannah and Harrison??
Well a lot of these spoilers aren't wrong, and then I think this way it's going to end, But they're going to play safe, the scene in the boat with Debra covered by the sheet is in the photoshoot in reddit, so Deb isn't going to die. Well and if they kill her at least something emotional in this emotionless "final" season.
ReplyDeleteSeems really intense and dark, esp if you know who (not Vogel) dies. This will be hard for Dexter.
ReplyDeleteSo Debra maybe don't die in the series finale ?
ReplyDeleteUpdated Response: This seems very plausible now. Obviously still some gaps about the very very end, but the sequence of events makes more sense now.
ReplyDeleteI would be too, if the last four years were as good as the first four. Alas, this has been a truly horrible final season of 'let's throw everything into the mix and decide at the last minute where we're going to end up'. And the resolution of Dex's character in ep 11? HORRIBLE. Of course people are going to hate it, that happens when you betray a defining trait of a character.
ReplyDeleteThe best thing that could happen is that a nuke hits Miami, taking out the entire cast, thus preventing a spinoff.
ReplyDeletesdihdsfoina
ReplyDeleteNO!!!! I can't believe they're really gonna kill Deb! What the fuck?!?!
ReplyDeleteThis is a horrible end!!!
I already know that when I'm gonna rewatch S8 I definitely WON'T see the last two eps. Shit, I don't even know if I'm gonna watch them now.
I don't know who wrote the script for the end, but he's gonna end on my table!
Didn't they say she does die in the last ep?
ReplyDeleteThat's horrible!!! I already hate the end!!! I don't wanna see it!
You don't care if Deb dies? Are you kidding me? I won't sleep for a week! And we still don't know how it ends with Dex and Hannah and Harrison.
ReplyDeleteFake? Don't give me hopes! I'm extremely close to kill the writers and producers if they kill Deb.
ReplyDeleteThey can kill Hannah, if they have to kill someone. I don't care about her. I want Dex and Deb to be happy forever.
Dexter losing it because Deb died? Would make sense. Wasn't she the one good thing in his life? I mean her and his son.
ReplyDeleteIt would make sense, I don't know if Deb is " a good thing" in Dexter's life, she makes it pretty hard on him, but she is certainly an important part of his life.
ReplyDeleteI think Harrison is probably more the good part of his life, because at times Harrison aspires him to want to be different, --to want to feel and change.
I think if it happens like this, it is a bit of a shame, but I think JC is the one that wants out. If you listen to her comic con comments she seriously seemed to indicate that this IS what SHE wanted for Deb. So I'm not sure if it's fair to blame the writers for this one.
ReplyDeleteOn the other hand, I think the show has always had this underbelly of a great tragedy, especially once we hit season 4. This season has a lot of beautiful and heartbreaking parallels to both the 1st and 4th seasons and this end would be in line with that, since Dexter again is trying to 'staddle with both worlds' and because I felt certain that season six with it's Doomsday themes was meant to thematically foreshadow the ends of the series (remember Trave lost his sister too). Dexter right now is loosing people fast...Zack, Vogel, and possibly Deb. Deb however I think has been dig a grave for herself all a long since the end of season 6, because she just couldn't let go of her animosity until it was already too late...but the storm also indicates that this is all still "bigger" than them anyways, as it's something that will be out of their control and may be the thing that transitions us from one cycle and series into another...
You mean, when she said that she would like to play in comedies, where her character wouldn't be so hard or complicated or whatever (I can't remember which words she used, sorry)? It was in a magazine, I read it on spoiler.
ReplyDeleteAnd I commented, that it would be a shame. She became amazing in the last few years. I said, and I believe it, that it would be a waste of her talent, and that many actors would kill for a talent like hers. Why throw it away?
If she wants out, that's fine. But she (I mean her character) doesn't have to die for it. All she would have to say is NO if they ask her about a spin-off or a Dexter movie in a couple of years. And who knows, by that time she might have changed her mind. Death is too final. Except you live in the universe of TVD. Then there is a big possibility you come back.
I know this show is more a drama than anything else. But that doesn't mean, there can't be a happy end. I mean, as you pointed out, he's losing a lot of people close to him this season (Zack, Vogel, he also liked Cassie), he lost Rita in S4 and Lumen in S5, he even lost Deb for a while. So we had enough drama elements. Why can't he be happy with Deb? Fuck Hannah! I want him with Deb!
I know how we could test who is more important to him. I would give him a choice. Kill Deb for Hannah or kill Hannah for Deb. What do you think he would do? I think he would kill Hannah for Deb. I still believe that she's more important to him.
I hope it's not as bad as it seems and she makes it. I don't know if I could handle it. No, I know I couldn't. I would never ever watch this ep again.
No. She said something like 'I hope Deb is at the bottom of the ocean, because I don't want to wonder about her future for the next 15 years.'
ReplyDeleteWhat?!?!?!?! I can't believe she said that! I mean, I understand that sometimes it's hard to play Deb. But she should be glad to play the part. She has the opportunity to prove that she's a good and serious actress with a talent some actor would kill for. She can't prove that in a comedy or sitcom.
ReplyDeleteWell 8 years is a long time to play a part and I can understand how someone might just get to point where they would like to move on and explore other avenues.
ReplyDeleteIt was pretty shocking to me that she said that, because they had already filmed the finale episode, so I was kind of like, 'what do you mean you hope'?, because clearly she already knows what happens to her character. Part of me was hoping she was throwing us off base, rather than actually divulge her ends!! But I guess only time will tell if these reports are accurate!
I hope she lives!!!
ReplyDeleteAnd what about Dexter????????
ReplyDeleteI've been thinking. Just crossed my mind when I remembered what you said about Jen saying "I hope Deb is at the bottom of the ocean, because I don't want to wonder about her future for the next 15 years." Even if she dies now, it wouldn't change anything. This will be (probably forever) her best known and most famous role. People will forever see her as Deb and always remember Dexter when they see her, no matter what role she plays (even if it's in a stupid sitcom. Probably especially, if it is a stupid sitcom). So, she will always be known as Deb. And as for her "wondering about Debs future", well, as I said, all she would have to do, if they ask her to play in a spin-off or a move, is say NO. Or, to put it with Debs words: "Fuck no"
ReplyDeleteI read it. I regret it. Badly. Why am I so dumb. Why did I do this to myself again? I mean, I read about Rita's dead and I was so mad at myself and now it happened again. OMFG, I am so stupid. Kill me, please.
ReplyDeleteI agree it won't change what the actress accomplished in terms of her career, but in terms of the series itself, it does matter to me how the character goes, what state the character is in, and if she turns out to be Dexter's ultimate downfall from both her bad decision with the Marshall and because of what her death might do to Dexter in those final scenes...
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely agree. Whatever happens to Deb will have a huge effect on Dexter. Especially if she dies. I think it might push him over the edge. Bye-bye Dexter, hallo Dark Passenger.
ReplyDeleteWell, I don't know how I will see Deb after the end. But I know how I will see Hannah (already do). As the one person that got between Dex and Deb. Twice! It might even be her fault if Deb dies. As is got it, Dex is preparing to leave with Hannah. That is why he isn't there when Deb needs him. One more reason for him to "turn it off" if I can use a TVD phrase. He'll blame himself. If he also blames Hannah he might go after her.
Season 8 was utter TRASH. Why would Dexter, someone who through out the whole show LOVES killing, decide to throw his whole life away for Hannah? Why would he quit his job and throw away his perfect cover at Miami Metro? Why would he as a character even CONSIDER running away with the women that not only kills men, but tried to kill Debra in season 7? It makes absolutely no sense! It's like a damned 7 year old wrote the final season. It's trash.
ReplyDeleteIf this new spoiler is true, I don´t really get Dexter´s motivation. Hannah was around last year too. He could have made the decision already last season and go through with it (trying to leave as cryptic as possible for the non-readers.)
ReplyDeleteso fake
ReplyDeleteThe new spoilers can't possibly be true, not even coming from these terrible writers.
ReplyDeleteAnd Trinity lost his sister too.
ReplyDeleteand so did Travis Marshall and Jonas Mitchell.
ReplyDeleteI don't know about these, but I though I would submit them just in case! Honestly not a big fan of a Quinn spin-off, considering I doubt we would see much of Dex, Hannah, and Harrison, but It would be surprise if Dexter could stop killing because of Hannah (and a lack of Deb, suggesting she was really his motivator) and if he would live....
ReplyDeleteNot saying the spoilers are true, but just to answer your question:
ReplyDeleteHis motivation would be simultaneous with D's death, implying that Deb is also a reason he has always killed. (an innate need to protect her). Her death would then be a kind of release, as Deb was the thing holding himself back from making real progress. (As Dr. Vogal suggested).
Because she represents the best part of the other "3" (trinity) women Dexter has ever been intimate with and because Dexter has progressed to a point where he is no longer severely lying to himself (or listening to Harry/Harry DP) by acknowledging he isn't " a perfect sociopath", because he DOES deeply FEEL, which is why Dexter has been flawed from the first season onward, as Dexter sought to make [emotional] connections to all the wrong people.
ReplyDeleteHannah also usually kills kinder than almost anyone in the series. It has been stated several times that she does not ENJOY doing what she does, which most other killers in the series do.
Deb is also on the verge of being a serial killer, not to mention that her continuous bouts of PTSD from years and years of trauma and emotional abuse, fuels her to emotionally manipulate others and emotionally abuse them, as she never sticks to anything constant and she aggressively blames others and very rarely takes responsibility for her own actions. She is hypocritical and IMO also has sociopathic tendencies as she lacks deep/long term empathy or loyalty.
IMO the writers know what they are doing. Thematically they have been very brilliant.
Additionally the show operates with this idea that you never see the "exact" same thing twice, (it's always similar, but different) putting all characters in new roles/view points often with the acceptation of Batista, Hannah, and Vince only recently has had a dramatic change via Nikki.
I agree. I would've preferred a Zach or a Hannah/Deb/ Harrison Spin-Off. They should write another ending for us! XD
ReplyDeleteThe National Enquirer has just posted a finale spoiler. Yes, the National Enquirer tabloid...but it should be noted they posted the finale of LOST and the Sopranos prior to both finales airing...and both were correct.
ReplyDeletePOTENTIAL SPOILER ALERT******************************(this is copy/pasted directly from NE's site)
The ENQUIRER has learned that in the final episode, Dexter kills his sister, Debra, who’s played by the actor’s real-life ex-wife, 33-year-old Jennifer Carpenter.
“Debra knows too much (about his killings) and she’s become more unraveled than ever,” noted the insider.
According to the source, the writers and producers anguished over the finale, but it’s an ending they’ve talked about for years. The explosive episode – titled “Remember the Monsters?” – airs on Sept. 22.
“The ‘Dexter’ finale is going to be debated for a long time to come,” added the insider. “Fans don’t want Debra dead because they’re emotionally attached to all the characters.”
"It’s going to blow people awa
The only thing I can say is that by giving Quinn this role, they would better solidify his purpose in the series, as IMO he has always been inline and is a reflection of [a younger] Harry (and his first name is also Dexter's biological father's first name)that he then is 'the mask' that both characters (Deb and Dexter) have used to to hide behind, as he would protect Deb unconditionally and come to accept Dexter, while also transforming himself into something beyond himself.
ReplyDeleteBut I just don't know if I could get on board with a Joey spin off?
I agree with the first paragraph.
ReplyDeleteI don´t really know if Deb doesn´t care or feel deeply for others. She killed LaGuerta to save Dexter. If she wouldn´t have cared for Dexter she would have snitched him.
And Debra Lila comparison? ...This seems a little far-fetched.
If she cared for Dexter she wouldn't have treated him like garbage at the begining of season 8, because of something she did! She went to that shipping contianer knowing what happen to Dexter in one, knowing LaGeurta has been on their trail (went to great lengths to set Dexter up), and with no back up plan!!! No one held a gun to Deb's head. She could have done several other things. I no doubt think Deb "loves" Dexter, but her definition of love is consuming. (When she was with Andrew Brigs, on drugs, we saw just how greed she is, as she left no cocaine for her partner.)
ReplyDeleteWhen Debra is pinned in a corner or is in a good relationship she bales out---too peaceful, constant, not enough drama.
People who believe bs like "Quinn becomes a serial killer" never understood this show. It's just funny and it will be even more funny after the real final episode is shown.
ReplyDeleteCan you please post this at DD? Real Dexter fans would have a lot to laugh about it.
ReplyDeleteMaybe it's a real mental institution and Dexter has been there all along telling his story.
ReplyDeleteWe all claim we understand the series that's why we have a comments section in which we continue to discuss it, because TV shows have the capacity, like many mediums of art, to speak to us all differently.
ReplyDeleteMost of your comments or rebutles hardly ever have weight to them, because you never use examples, instead you take it personally, laugh at what you don't like, and then make personal accusations against the people your discussing with, instead of providing evidence to support your statements.
No one has to agree with me. That's fine, but do not make the mistake that we are all aloud to express our opinions about our interpretations and at least I can present a fair thesis to support my comments and arguments.
It probably is a false spoiler, but if it happens I can see the writers logic in it. Quinn is a reflection of young Harry and thus if this would happen like this it proves he is the mask Deb and Dexter have been using to hide behind, as he kept Dexter's secret and because he loved Deb deeply and unconditionally, despite both of their emotional problems. Deb's death and the reveal of Quinn along with Quinns actions to kill Saxon himself remove the mask, transition the spirit of Harry through Quinn to a place Harry never could (be a real protector to his children instead of making them fend for themselves) and lift the burden of Dexter's dark passenger (who's really Deb) from Dexter.
ReplyDeletePlease watch season 1. Then you maybe understand why Dexter has his urge.
ReplyDeleteI don't know if you are being sarcastic or not, but honestly I for years thought given the title of the first novel, that it could have been a dream Dexter was having about Harry, putting himself in his father's shoes, implying Harry was the serial killer...
ReplyDeleteBut with the possibility of a spin off, I found that ending very unlikely.
It is stil not possible to take it serious when someone claims to watch this show but seems to know nothing about the things which happened to Dexter before he was adopted by Harry and why the name of this hurricane in which Dex and Deb will finally end on the boat is LAURA.
ReplyDeleteJust because they didn't mention the Hurricane, doesn't mean that all of their information is false. It could be that parts of what these spoilers say are true. I myself was not there to see the original reddit posts, before they were deleted. I'm just going with the possibility of it for discussion sake, that's all.
ReplyDeletePlease watch season 5, 6, and 7 where Quinn parallels Harry's "dirty cop" and when Quinn's love for Deb, allows him to quit pursuing Dexter and in the end of season 5 they have a "mutual" understanding to not get in each others way, as Dexter spares Quinn from being set up.
ReplyDeleteThen watch season 8 where the writers are now showing us a Quinn and Dexter bromance as they both track Zack Hamilton, and Quinn confides in Dexter about Deb and calls Dexter to save Deb's ass from confessing to LaGuerta's murder and never saying anything about it to anyone else.
Please watch the episode when we find out that Harry is not Dexter. Quinn could raise a monster but he will never be one and if Harrison becomes a monster he will not become a monster because of some person. He would become a monster because he was born in blood like his father was.
ReplyDeleteMaybe to make my argument simpler. It's not that I don't like Deb, I think that JC has done a beyond fantastic job and I have empathy for where the character is coming from, but that doesn't mean she gets a free pass just because I like her.
ReplyDeleteDeb's attention seeking comes from a lack of love and foundation she had as a child, because basically she had those things taken away from her. So I think she perhaps semi-unconsciously punishes everyone else for it by teasing them with her own affection and then takes it away. (Lundy is an exception because he represents the father she never had, much like Rita represented a mother Dexter never had)
Unlike Lilia, we have this back story shadowed through Dexter's that makes her story very compelling, but I still think so many times, she's the black hole, because she often makes an already bad situation worse than it needs to be, by not being patient or thoughtful of others emotions. She just over emotionally reacts, and then turns around and acts like she was just kidding.
I just found some very detailed spoilers for the remaining episodes. I already submitted them but idk when or if they are posted.
ReplyDeleteSo i thought i give you the link in here. :)
Warning this link contains Major Spoilers for the remaining episodes (for everyone who doesn't want to know ;) )
http://www.reddit.com/r/Dexter/comments/1lmt40/spoilerpossible_finale_leak_for_dexter_season_8/
Just watch season 1 to find out that Deb is the reason why Dexter did not follow his brother. He wouldn't have given just a shit about Harry's code without his love for Deb at the end of season 1. She's the key to Dexter's humanity and that's the reason why Dex will choose her again over everything at the end of ep. 12.
ReplyDeleteWOW!!! Really intense! It really seems plausible, because of the way those two scenes are going back and fourth!! It definitely moved me.
ReplyDeleteHe is a bit of monster, because the series advocates a spectrum that we all are to some degree.
ReplyDeleteDeb was not born in blood, but she has killed twice and Hannah might not have been either. Harry abandoned his children whom he put in a volatile situation by his decisions to take Dexter home and spend more time providing a foundation for Dexter, while Debra was left alone after her mother died. Harry left them to fend for themselves. One could argue that is monstrous behavior.
My argument has never been that Dexter does not care for Debra, my argument is that Debra has some problems, because Harry did not provide her with the foundation she really needed to better survive and that she basically continues to rebel by punishing herself through punishing others. He was too busy preparing Dexter for his future, while Deb just suffered from continuous change and loss, and a lack of affection, because her dad was off doing special secret things with her non biological brother.
ReplyDeleteYou really seem to hate Debra :)
ReplyDeleteNope one of my favorite characters in the series, but it's because she's so beautifully flawed and emotionally driven in an unique opposition/juxtaposition to Dexter and his own disposition.
ReplyDeleteYou're right, the pictures and the spoilers don't fit together. (So there is still hope!! XD)
ReplyDeleteThat's a good idea and it could be one of the clues(that the end begins) the writers spoke about.
i saw that coming
ReplyDeleteIt's turnin back to Game of Thrones in the last Episode.
ReplyDelete"...like Christmas for the haters..."
ReplyDeleteAs a rabid season 8 hater, this makes me sad. I'd hoped they'd at least be able to finish strong, but judging by all that came before, this is what I expected to hear.
Sadface.
Update September 21st:
ReplyDeleteInteresting. Glad that Quinn is not the next Dexter and that we see Saxon finally have his meltdown, but I'm curious why his end might be anti-climatic (Is Saxon the spin off?)
I'm glad it also is mixed bag, because I think that is what Dexter has always been...
I'm back to Hannah Harrison spin off or Dream Theory Finish -especially since this reviewer's first response is "done, finished" suggesting that it's pretty resolved in some way.
I wish he would mentioned something about Deb and what the series said about her, since I think it was almost equally about her.

ReplyDeleteHow to get your ex back...
ReplyDeleteTHE GREAT Dr UKAKA WHO BROUGHT MY HUSBAND BACK TO ME IN JUST ONE DAY.
My name is HARRYKELVIN I live in Canada, and i got married four months ago. My husband and I have been living a very happy and lovely life. So as time went on, I began to notice this strange attitude that he was possessing. He was now going out with other girls, to the extent that he was no longer picking up my calls, and he was not even sleeping in the house anymore. I became confused and didn't know what to do anymore. So i became worried and stranded, that brought so many thoughts into my mind, because I have never experienced a thing like this before in my life.
So I decided to visit a spell caster, to see if he can help me out. So immediately I went to the internet, where I saw an amazing testimony of a spell caster who brought someone's ex lover back, "Dr ukaka" so I contacted him immediately and I explained to him all my problems and he told me that it will be very easy for him to solve, compare to the ones that he has done before. And he also gave me some proof to be really sure of his work, and he assured me that my husband will come back to me immediately he is through with the spell casting. And also he told me to put all my trust in him, and I really obeyed him. So it was 8:00 am on the next morning, when I was about going to work, when i received my husband's call, and he told me that he was coming back home, and he apologized to me, and told me that he is very sorry for the pain that he has cost me. And after some hours later, he really came back home, and that was how we continued our marriage with lots of love and happiness, and our love was now stronger than how it were before.
Moreso, he also told me that once my heart desire has been granted unto me that i should go and testify of his work right here on the internet. Right now I am the happiest woman on earth today as I am writing this testimony, and I want to really thank "Dr ukaka" for bringing back my husband, and for bringing joy and love to my family. So my greatest advice for you out there who your husband or your wife is acting strange or behaving the same way like this, or you have any problem with your relationship or anything related to do with spell casting, is for you to go and visit this man anytime, and i assure you that he will be of help to you, and I am 100% sure that he will solve it out.

I swear this Update is the first time on this site i was kind of pissed off... no one before has made me do so. basically if u wanted to do a review do it after the episode airs. no real spoilers, those No's are something we already knew...
ReplyDeletelike Christina responded I didn't even know that a mother
ReplyDeleteable to make $5284 in a few weeks on the internet. why not try here www.JAM20.ℂom
I actually think the review was pretty vague and the reviewer tried not to be overly bias, but I was glad it resolved/ruled out a couple of things. Surely I'll probably will disagree with some of the things he/she said, amusing I will be able to pin point what he was referring to, simply because I disagree a lot with the masses anyways, as I'm generally happy with season 8 thus far.
ReplyDeleteSome people do like to know what to expect ahead of time. SpoilerTV is now doing previews for pilots and episodes of certain series and I think it's nice for fans to have that, since this is a spoiler site. I don't think this would have been posted if someone one SpoilerTV didn't trust the source somewhat.
It won't be long now to see what all pans out and how right any of these spoilers are going to be!
I haven't read anything yet, just here to say I am bookmarking this page to read after the finale. I can't believe I made it spoiler free for the most part this season!!!!
ReplyDeleteCongrats!!!!!! As you probably have seen on my comments on this thread, I haven't been able to control myself 1 iota! XD
