The SpoilerTV Favourite TV Series Competition 2013- Begins Tomorrow - The Draw Has Been Done

7 Jul 2013

Hi folks,

The draw has just been made, the 64 shows that will compete in the competition now know which other shows they will be facing up against.

For the draw, the rules were as follows.

1) The top 8 current shows were split up so that the earliest they could meet is the Quarter Finals.
2) The top 8 finished shows were split up so that the earliest they could meet is also the Quarter Finals.
3) There earliest one of the top 8 current shows can face one of the top 8 finished shows is Round Three.
3) The other 50 shows were randomly selected a position in the draw, so for this year, current and finished shows can compete against each other at any point.

The Draw

In my opinion the toughest section would be Section Three, with Section One perhaps the most kind part of the draw. In Round One my particular highlights will be Doctor Who vs. Fringe as well as NCIS vs. The X-Files as those three shows tend to do quite well in the competition.

For anyone interested in how the previous three SpoilerTV Favourite TV Series Tournaments went down, you can see the positions below:

For now, let me know in the comments how kind or harsh the draw was for your favourite shows, and get ready for tomorrow when we kick off the competition with Game of Thrones vs. How I Met Your Mother and Suits vs. Dexter.

It's all about to begin!

Adam

  2. Thanks Adam.

    Some tough matches coming up.

Be interesting to see how newish shows like Arrow, BATB and Scandal perform this year as they have been pretty popular over the 2012/13 season.

  3. Doctor Who x Fringe is just cruel. =/

    ReplyDelete
  4. Awesome! Cannot wait for this to begin. It is always the highlight of the summer. For me the hardest draw is of course Doctor Who vs. Fringe. Love that many of my favorite shows made the cut.

    ReplyDelete
  5. Oooh! I can't wait for it to start! This is my first SpoilerTV Favourite TV Series Competition so I'am eager to see what it's like. :)

    ReplyDelete
  6. I would love to see Arrow do very well in this. It's the recurring show I am most interested in seeing the season 2 premiere based on the excellent finale.

    ReplyDelete
  7. Game of throens vs HIYM just no that`s bad D: and Revnge vs Spartacus DDD: cant wait to see how this goes

    ReplyDelete
  8. You are in for a treat. I found SpoilerTV in the first Best Show competition and I haven't left since. It is a great time to talk about your favorite shows and even convince new people to try them.

    ReplyDelete
  9. Agreed. At least one show that should have gotten far in the contest will be out in the first round. Not to mention that both have super passionate fans which always adds to the fun and heartbreak.

Doctor Who vs. Fringe? That's just too cruel!

    ReplyDelete
  11. I just went through the bracket to see who all I would vote for, and I ended up with a Hannibal vs. Person of Interest match up at one point, which is extremely difficult for me as I'm still trying to decide which of those two is my favorite currently airing show...

Disappointed Pushing Daisies is no longer on the bracket, but I understand it not being included if inclusion is determined by overall popularity.

    ReplyDelete
  12. Easy choice for me, never could get into Fringe. I think the only episode I really liked was White Tulip, and that was because it was timey wimey, lol.

    ReplyDelete
  13. Where is Castle? It's the most popular show here in spoilertv, how can it not be in this poll?

    ReplyDelete
  14. I knew I forgot to vote on something! :/

    ReplyDelete
  15. My apologizes, I didn't see the show in the right!

Let's the competition begin! I hope for a second victory for Castle, but the competition will be tough this year!

    ReplyDelete
  16. Game of Thrones vs How I Met Your Mother?

    Seriously?

    ReplyDelete
  17. Supernatural is going against breaking bad in 2nd round?? NOT GOOD!

    ReplyDelete
  18. Only if they both make it to round 2. :-) I think there may be some surprises this time. Some of the shows that have never been in the contest before may come out swinging and surprise everyone, especially since the earlier polls tend to have fewer people voting.

  19. Thanks, Adam.

    I watch/watched 24 of these 64 shows.

A bit saddened by the fact that only 6 comedies have been selected, but thankfully 30 Rock (one of my four picks, as I feel the show ended very strongly) and The Office are there. Otherwise, the ones people love to talk about are here (TBBT, HIMYM, New Girl), that makes sense, as well as Friends.

The hardest draw for me will be Breaking Bad vs. 90210, undoubtedly :

On one hand you have this beautifully filmed, wonderfully acted original drama filled with interesting characters and complex stories evolving effortlessly over five seasons, and on another hand you have Breaking Bad. Should be a tough one.

    ReplyDelete
  20. This year the competition will be hard! There are so many awesome shows! GOOD LUCK! .... Teen Wolf vs Hannibal is cruel :(

    ReplyDelete
  21. So my four favorite shows are all in the Section One, "the most kind part of the draw." Uh huh. Game of Thrones, HIMYM, Friends, and Buffy is ridiculously stacked, with popular shows OUAT and TBBT thrown in for good measure.

For me, Sections Two and Three are clearly Lost and Doctor Who. Section Four doesn't have any standouts: Arrow, POI, and Homeland are all great but so young and still developing, and House jumped shark after three seasons.

Sad that Happy Endings, Avatar: the Last Airbender, Criminal Minds, Community, Parks and Rec, Nikita, and Battlestar Galactica didn't make it.

    ReplyDelete
  22. For me I think the Teen Wolf vs. Hannibal discussion should be very interesting since they are almost as opposite as two dramas can be in the way they approach similar subject matters, the pacing especially.

    ReplyDelete
  23. SUPERNATURAL should win it all!!!

    ReplyDelete
  24. With 2 of my favorite shows Sons of Anarchy and Justified not in this tournament why should I care who wins?

    ReplyDelete
  25. I tried reloading several times, but I'm not seeing the draw.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Panos Nestoras7 July 2013 at 23:29

Ha! I definitely agree, Breaking Bad vs 90210 is the hardest draw. Both are equally awesome shows...

    ReplyDelete
  27. Patrick Maloney7 July 2013 at 23:29

Orphan Black and Lost should be interesting, and Teen Wolf doesn't have a chance

    ReplyDelete
  28. Patrick Maloney7 July 2013 at 23:30

    are you using a Mac?

    ReplyDelete
  29. Panos Nestoras7 July 2013 at 23:34

I am very excited for this!! The only draw that's really hard for me is Doctor Who vs Fringe. It's unfortunate that Orphan Black is against Lost because that's the only show i could never vote against... Sad that some of my favourite shows like The Wire, Justified and SoA didn't make it to the competition but there are still enough great shows that i can support...

    ReplyDelete
  30. Try using Google Chrome browser to see if that works

    ReplyDelete
  31. Pablo Troncoso7 July 2013 at 23:43

Go Fringe! I hope it gets far :D (haven't watch Dr. Who, so I'll root for Fringe!)

    ReplyDelete
  32. I use Google Chrome and it doesn't work. But I tried safari and now I can see it.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Same here! I had to use other browser to see it.

    ReplyDelete
  34. These are the shows I hope gets far Supernatural , Bones, Game of Thrones , and Arrow.

    ReplyDelete
  35. I have some terrible matchups ahead! The two from tomorrow for starters are both killer to me (no pun intended). I will have to think real carefully. Sad that Orphan Black is facing Lost. I adore Orphan Black but I will never vote against Lost. It's my favorite show ever.

    ReplyDelete
  36. OK the draw is not showing up and I have tried Chrome and Firefox, what am I doing wrong?

    ReplyDelete
  37. Agree, GoT vs. HIMYM is terrible because they are such different types of shows, it is like comparing food to drink.

    ReplyDelete
  38. I was also disappointed that Battlestar Galactica did not make it.

    ReplyDelete
  39. Yeah I have the same issue with Lost vs. Orphan Black. Orphan Black has been this incredible surprise, I love the show a lot and wish it all the best, but Lost is just Lost, I will never go against it. Unfortunate, really.

    ReplyDelete
  40. I only have chrome and FF and can't see the draw with either one.

    ReplyDelete
  41. I'd say the likely winner of section 2 will be The Walking Dead or Supernatural based on previous contests. Section one should end up being Game of Thrones or UOaT while section 3 is likely to be Castle or off-chance whichever wins the Doctor Who/Fringe poll. Of course the Beauty and the Beast fans have great ability to mobilize quickly so they could be the surprise winners. I agree that section four is kind of a tossup. 4 or 5 have a great shot of making it to the final four. Just for clarification these are not who I want in the final four but who I predict. For me section one would be Grimm or Buffy, section 2 would be Leverage, and section 3 would be Teen Wolf. All of these are enormously entertaining and that's what I am looking for. Section 4 is hardest because I am good if Arrow, Veronica Mars, Stargate SG1, Person of Interest, or X-Files takes it.

    ReplyDelete
  42. Section 1:

Game of Thrones vs. How I Met Your Mother
    Suits vs. Dexter
Gilmore Girls vs. Rizzoli and Isles
Smallville vs. Friends (most interesting match up in this section)
Once Upon a Time vs. One Tree Hill
    Grey's Anatomy vs. Grimm (ouch!)
    Private Practice vs. New Girl
Big Bang Theory vs. Buffy the Vampire Slayer (ought to be interesting)

    Section 2:

    Supernatural vs. Pretty Little Liars
    Breaking Bad vs. 90210
    Elementary vs. Hawaii 5-0
    Orphan Black vs. LOST
    Mentalist vs. Merlin
Walking Dead vs. Leverage (Yikes, my poor Leverage)
    Revenge vs. Spartacus
    Desperate Housewives vs. Firefly

    ReplyDelete
  43. Section 3:

Beauty and the Beast vs. Bones (This is one to watch to see how strong B&tB will be in contest.)
Teen Wolf vs. Hannibal (most interesting discussion of this section)
    Gossip Girl vs. The Office
Doctor Who vs. Fringe (toughest match of round 1 bar none)
Castle vs. Smash (which is what Castle is going to do)
Sherlock vs. Scandal (could also be one to watch)
    Alias vs. 24
Angel vs. Body of Proof (Kind of surprised BoP even made it in)

    Section 4:

    Arrow vs. Charmed
CSI: NY vs. Veronica Mars (could be a stronger VM turnout this year due to movie)
    Vampire Diaries vs. Prison Break
Stargate SG-1 vs. Chuck (this will have lots of debate)
Person of Interest vs. New Normal
    ER vs. Homeland
    30 Rock vs. House
    NCIS vs. X-Files

    ReplyDelete
  44. it`s true i think Drama should be paired with drama and comedy with comedy

    ReplyDelete
  45. I wouldn't cut Teen Wolf out just yet. It depends on how quickly the poll makes it to the Teen Wolf tumblr sites. My guess is that Teen Wolf has by far more online support overall than Hannibal does. As far as SpoilerTV goes, they seem to be somewhat even. This is all about which fandom can reach the most people in the shortest amount of time. I would guess this will be far closer than most people think it will.

    ReplyDelete
  46. no i watch both smash and castle.... y do u make me choose?

    ReplyDelete
  47. Patrick Maloney8 July 2013 at 03:11

I totally didn't take into account the Tumblrs, but I still give it to Hannibal because that show, in my opinion, was saved by it's internet support.

    ReplyDelete
  48. For me this will be the most interesting discussion poll of them all. They both go at their entertainment is such completely different ways that I'm hoping there's a lot of conversation about both.

    ReplyDelete
  49. If you think it's hard in the first round, wait until we get halfway through the contest. Some of those choices are like pull your hair out. Just cruel.

    ReplyDelete
  50. So many good shows pitted against each-other in the first rounds, oh dear. I wished at least ended shows could get more of a chance, or you pitted more ended shows against each other.

Cant believe Xena Warrior Princess is yet to even get into this year after year, there are plenty of fans, or is Xena unpopular with the spoiler tv fans.

    ReplyDelete
  51. I think the issue is that you can only nominate 2 finished shows and there are a wealth of finished shows to competing for people's nominations. Usually recently finished shows are more on people's minds when nominating. If people could nominate 5 finished shows, it's possible the ones that made it into the contest would change. Generally in this contest, the big ones are X-Files, Buffy, Firefly, and the newest cancelled genre show. This year Fringe was eligible for the finished show category, which I'm sure got a lot of nominations.

  52. I love Teen Wolf, but stopped watching Hannibal after the 5th ep, got bored with it.

    ReplyDelete
  53. Section 3

Thanks for this, not many I have to think about in this one. I stopped watching Bones a while back, not a huge fan of Beauty, but will pick it.
Teen Wolf, stopped watching Hannibal after ep 5.
Did not watch either one of these, so don't care..GG or Office
    Fringe
    Castle
This one is hard love both, but will pick Scandal because there is more of it to watch. ;)
Another hard one, but Jack wins for me and looking forward to the new 24.
Angel, no thinking on this one.

    Section 4
    Arrow
I would have picked VM even without the movie in the works.
I am going to lose on this one..Prison Break, and have really gotten bored with VD although I am still watching.
    Will go with Chuck
Person of Interest is one of my favorite shows, never watched NN
    ER or Homeland..don't care
30 Rock or House no vote
Hard one finally..will have to think about this one.

    ReplyDelete
  54. Section 1

    GoT
Suits, love this show, stopped watching Dexter after season 1
Never watched Gilmore Girls and don't care for Rizzoli..no vote
    Smallville
One Tree Hill, I have stopped watching OUaT
Grimm, never watched Grey's..not into doc shows that much.
Don't watch Private Practice or New Girl
OH, this is unfair and will have to think on it, I get so many laughs out of TBBT, but have watched Buffy almost as many times as SPN. Never cared for Buffy, but loved all the other characters, mainly Spike, my first vampire love. lol

    Section 2

    Ha, easy SPN
Don't watch Breaking Bad or 90210
    Elementary, but do enjoy H50
    Lost
Merlin and sorry it is gone, do watch Mentalist
Another hard one, but will go with WD
    Revenge
    Firefly

  55. Wait? What?! You! :O

    ReplyDelete
  56. That's an easy one, really.

    ReplyDelete
  57. Yes,Castle always!!

    ReplyDelete
  58. I know it wont get anywhere but my but my heart says FRINGE all the way!

    ReplyDelete
  59. it doesn't always win so don't hold your breath!

    ReplyDelete
  60. Dahne, did you have to pit Beauty And The Beast against Bones? It just doesn't seen fair..Oh well.

    ReplyDelete
  61. I don't know, Hannibal has a large Tumblr group too, I'd say just a smidge less than Teen Wolf atm, but I'd say they're neck and neck. It's interesting cause I love them both equally, so I'm looking forward to see who wins ^-^

    ReplyDelete
  62. Also Lost as finished show I would say, it would shock me if we got into a year where Lost did not make it.

    ReplyDelete
  63. I am shocked that you have never watched Gilmore Girls since it is Jared's break out role. I would have thought you'd seen at least the seasons with him in it.

The left side of the bracket (sections 1 and 2) are pretty weak for me. There's a lot I won't be voting in or I'll be voting against something instead of voting for. I watch far more shows on the right side. Grimm and Buffy are the only shows I am passionate about in section 1, although I like Big Bang Theory. Supernatural and Leverage are the only ones I have been passionate about in section 2, although there are a couple shows I actively dislike in that section.

    ReplyDelete
  64. Oh the placement is ALL Adam's fault. I am simply reporting the news since Rehabber can't get the brackets to load on her computer. I accept NO blame in the placements. :-P

    ReplyDelete
  65. I was surprised by how addicting Scandal was for me. It's not generally the type of show I like but their was a big war about it over on TVbtN so I decided to check it out and ran through the first season in 2 days. It was made for Netflix marathons. I haven't seen the second season yet, but I hope to marathon it soon.

    ReplyDelete
  66. It's definitely going to come down to who can mobilize their fandom the fastest. I personally think it will be a close race and I look forward to the tension in that. Round one can be less exciting but this poll should be intense. Plus it helps that I've seen both so I'm invested.

    ReplyDelete
  67. Teen Wolf definitely gets my vote too. Hannibal is visually artistic and has some awesome cinematography. It is the most gorgeously shot show I've seen. However it lacks a moving plot and I cannot take its plodding pace. There is more time spent in pause on this show than any other too just so the visuals can sink in. Teen Wolf zips around the track at a dizzying speed and packs more into one episode than most shows do in 5. It's constantly moving, but I still connect with most of the characters. Story definitely comes before visuals for me so it's no contest for my vote.

    ReplyDelete
  68. Most definitely. I responded in the wee hours of the morning and simply forgot to put LOST in. Will add.

    ReplyDelete
  69. Oh so its Adams fault,i'll get him!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! haha, thanks Dahne! :P

    ReplyDelete
  70. I can't tell if the diametrically different types of shows competing with eachother this early on is a good or a bad thing....

    ReplyDelete
  71. Right now I think it makes choices easier but depending on what wins, the second round should be a lot more difficult for me.

    ReplyDelete
  72. Ha! Definitely it's time to gang up on Adam for making us make impossible choices and/or making it almost impossible for our favorites to move on. You think he's recovered from all the unhappy STV fans who were forced to make impossible choices last year? :-P

    ReplyDelete
  73. It's kind of sad that Breaking Bad won't come to the finale because of teens that vote for SPN.

    ReplyDelete
  74. :o I'm just being honest :( :p

    ReplyDelete
  75. ha, I'm 75 and will vote for SPN, so far from being a teen. Have you watched SPN, long way from a teen show.

    ReplyDelete
  76. I know and I was just teasing you! ;)

    ReplyDelete
  77. I agree with this... there should be some ruling where shows of similar genre can't be contenders against each other in early rounds. I think it knocks too many of those types of shows out of contention leaving match ups that are ultimately undesirable. Another one that is killing me inside is Orphan Black vs. Lost. Talk about New Love vs Ex Love.

    ReplyDelete
  78. This is where I disagree here. I don't think its about comparing the shows but rather to have the fanbases support the shows they watch. If you force genre shows against each other too early you could be left with match ups where there is levels of apathy from some viewers. For example if 90210 were to be matched vs. Desperate Housewives I dare say I wouldn't even bother to vote.

    ReplyDelete
  79. Great point. I think weirdly matched polls also make the discussion more well-rounded. Like you said, it gets more people involved earlier which is always a good thing in big contests like this.

    ReplyDelete
  80. I disagree here. I think the rankings should be done by how many nominations a show got. Then shows are placed in the bracket like the NCAA basketball tournament does. This would be the ultimate in fair, since its all numerical and not biased at all. (Not that I am saying there is any bias in this format by the way.) Things tend to progress with ever-increasing interest this way too as the most popular shows wouldn't typically meet until the end.

    ReplyDelete
  81. Gilmore Girls is on my to do list. I thought when I retired I would have more time, but there are just not enough hours in the day for what I want to do. Feeding baby squirrels is a full time job. lol

Just checked and ABCFamily is running the show and the pilot starts again next week, will set it to record.

    ReplyDelete
  82. Believe me I understand. I am on summer break from teaching, which I thought meant I would be bored and ready to go back to school at this point. Instead I feel like I have been working twice as hard with longer hours this summer. School may be more relaxing. I have no idea where all the time goes and I definitely have to learn how to write up shows quicker. I'll be curious to see what you think of Gilmore Girls. Jared is so very young in it.

    ReplyDelete
  83. I will start it next week and after a week of eps, will let you know what I think.

    ReplyDelete
  84. Cool. I was really fond of the mother-daughter relationship of Lorelai and Rory the first couple of seasons. They were kind of like Rick and Alexis on Castle, where I always liked Alexis best.

    ReplyDelete
  85. I don't know anything about the show, other than Jared was on it. Just lucky the pilot is coming up soon and I can start it.

    ReplyDelete
  86. It's my mission that the X-Files gets farther this year - it did well in 2010 and has floundered since - but it's still my favorite.

    ReplyDelete
  87. Is it just me? I cannot see the draw!!!
