omg i cant believe i missed Dexter so much!! it was awesome! I really liked the neuro lady, perhaps she can get Dex the help he needs. right now he is losing it completely. and Deb was right, it was him who needs her all the time, but she needs him too. and the season promo looks so intense!! its going to be awesome!!
Awesome. So fucking glad my favorite serial killer is back! Don't get me wrong, I appreciate, that a city remembers the police officers, which were killed in "duty". But she wasn't a really good cop (she was a horrible cop) and her death wasn't exactly a tragedy (although we don't know how Dex arranged her death). So, if they gave her a memorial, why not give it to every cop that died in duty? "You're the problem, not the solution" So true. But I hope that he'll also be the solution. Debs password is fuckingpassword? So Deb! Dex is losing it big time. He should try meditate or something. They are both lost. Deb said she thought she couldn't live without him. And Dex said maybe he can't live without her. Maybe it's both! They were together their entire lives. After their parents died, they only had each other. I hope they can fix it. Their relationship is one of the things I loved about the show. And them. Vogel is interesting. She seems cold and distant. Maybe she's just professional. Or she could be a sociopath too. Can't wait to see, how it goes on.
I'm not. Not yet. Right now, I'm just happy the new season started. I probably won't realize till ep 10 or 11 that it's actually the end. It's the same when I watch Buffy. S7 is my favorite. And with every ep I watch, I can't wait to watch the next and the next. Till, suddenly, I'm in the middle of the last ep, then it's "Oh, shit, it's the last ep. It's the end. I don't want it to end!!!" It will probably be the same here with Dexter.
I suppose it was because LaGuerta was such an important political figure. It was her face on TV all the time and she certainly left an impression with the way she worked her way up. Now everyone thinks she was killed by a murderer she let go while she was doing her job (which is kind of true anyway). I thought it made sense.
Everything you say it's true. She was a political figure and she made a fast way up. But she was not a good cop. Her career based on using others and throwing them to the wolves if it helped her. She used the hard work of others to make herself look good in front of the media and blamed others for her mistakes, so she wouldn't lose her face. Everyone working directly with her knew that (like Matthews and Batista).
When I said that her death wasn't a tragedy, I meant, she didn't died protecting someone else form a criminal (like getting a bullet for an innocent) or saved a child form a speeding car or something like that. She didn't die a hero, like maybe a firefighter that died in the flames to save someone else.
And we still don't know any details of how Dex rearranged the crime scene. He could have make it look like they killed each other, like LaGuerta was after him. But if they investigated (and they probably did), they found out that she was responsible for his release. So she was killed by a man, she got out of prison herself.
Great episode! So glad it's back, although it is very sad that it is ending. I love this show so much! The Dexter-Debra scene in which she told her that she shot the wrong person was hard to watch and so was the one in which she finally acknowledged that he was the one needing her all along. Loved the doctor scenes too! Looking forward to the rest of the season
No, i really like it, even though it's not my favourite, I just thought nobody liked it. It was a bit of a step down in quality compared to other seasons but....it's Buffy!! And Chosen is really worth it! Amazing finale. Also, I can't hate the season that made Andrew a star :P The only thing I don't like is the First Evil.
Although I think Deb made a great point or realization, I can't really agree with her that she doesn't need him too, considering the kind of police work she's doing (Hannah's "hypocrite" line comes to mind. I still think Deb poisoned herself last season. I rewatched the season 7 and that courtroom scene def seemed to imply that Hannah took the fall for Deb's attention seeking on behalf of Dexter)
My impression of Dr. V.: From a few episode synopsis, it seems she is not The Brain Surgeon, but I still have a sneaky suspicion that there could be twist in there somewhere (Dexter is Delicious comes to mind). She reminds me of both Deb's mom and Rita's mom in her physic and her sternness/preciseness. Will be curious to see just how close Harry was to her and if Dexter ever actually crossed paths with her, but like a lot of things from his childhood, does not remember. I keep thinking Brain is close to Brian and that this could still somehow relate to that. But ultimately Rampling has a GREAT presence and I kind of like that were ending the series with a potential mother figure.
Nice touch with the orchid and last peddle falling. Don't know what Hannah's agenda is going to be, but I can't wait to see where that fits into the mess.
Deb's boss is interesting...
Dex is seriously loosing it....the doomsday aspects are still playing through! Poor Harrison! I'll be curious though if all these anti-code actions ultimately ruin him, or save him...
And now Jamie has to act like Christina Hill, but I don't think it's going to work out.
And I just know Batista is going to find something out on LaGeurta...and he's being so nice to everyone too.
I think so too. Deb's really good at hurting other people, but she's bad about being honest with herself. Everything is this constant excuse to deny herself happiness.
I don't know if she was a bad cop, but I got the impression back during season 5, that young Hispanic cop Cira Manzon (letters from he last name bolded with her first name bolded is "Maria") working with Deb, was like the writers giving us insight into what Maria was like at that time in her career. (even at the end of the day, Cira sold Deb out to save herself -to propagate and promote herself aka political agenda)
So I don't know if she's a bad cop, but she's def ruthless and doesn't care what she emotionally does to other people.
I think it has high quality. The actors, writers and producers all gave their best.
I liked Andrew too. He's so funny! "It's kill or be killed" "That'll do, pig" "That's the worst attempted pig slaughtering I've ever seen" (Although I must say it's better in German. In German it's something like "I'll kill you, pig" or "I'll get you, pig") That's one of my favorite eps. "I think we need to get him some blood" "Do you want me to kill Anya?" Or when the first said that Willow hid something in the house that could help Andrew kill the girls and he said "The new microwave?" What about the love spell, when Anya robbed banks, Will tried to transform the guy into a girl and Buffy tries to kill Wood with a bazooka, or whatever it was. Ah, even after all these years and rewatching it 20 times or more, it still makes me laugh! Actually, I like the First being the Big Bad, cause it really is the Big Bad. S6 with the 3 nerds was kinda disappointing to me. After an insane hell goddess, I mean. But, as JW said in an interview, the massage of S6 is "Life is hard". Or, as I like to say it "Life's a bitch … And then you die" It was necessary that it was the First. Cause after all the enemies Buffy fought, all the apocalypses she went thru, everything else (as a final season) would have been a disappointment.
Don't get me wrong, but that the same letters appear in both names could also be a coincidence. Could. But you're right, that she betrayed Deb without blinking, like Maria did. But I agree that we don't know how she was at the beginning of her career.
With "bad cop" I thought of both ways. Her relationship to her colleagues (those above her and beyond her) and her instinct for the police work. As I said, she used and betrayed everyone for the sake of her career. But she also had no instinct. Till S7, of course. Just remember the guard in the stadium in S1, or the barrel girls in S5. Deb, even as a rookie, was a better cop than Maria and I think she hated her for it.
F**king incredible (as Deb might say). Much better than I expected and I had expected quite a lot! I liked all Dexter seasons but it looks like the show will be finishing especially strong.
It could be, although the series, like the novels is full of word play. But in any case I feel certain that Cira was meant to be be a type of parallel and glimpse into a young LaGuerta, just as Quinn shares some aspects with Harry.
I actually think she had good instincts, otherwise she wouldn't be so politically successful. She knew how to play most people, even Matthews. And it's not like she isn't right about Doakes---it's one of the few times where she was more irrational and emotionally driven about her beliefs...She almost had Dexter at the end of last season by letting Estrada out early. (That seen where Maria finds the chain saw humming still give me chills!) Dexter then had to be pretty clever to turn around and set her up.
I'm pretty sure that the new/old doctor had something to do with Harry, when she was working with Police way before. Harry probably told her about Dexter and his fears about his future, and even she may be the co-autor of the code, otherwise, I have no explanation for the having the drawings and her knowledge of Harry's Code.
I think they all suck as cops, including Deb. It's the only reason Dexter managed to get away with everything he did for so many years. He was a step ahead of them on every single case. There were so may things that they should have questioned but they didn't. At least La Guerta, Quinn and Doakes had enough instinct to be suspicious of Dexter, which is more than I can say for Deb, although in all fairness to Deb, she was probably in denial and saw what she wanted to see.
She did have instincts. But, as you said they were directed into her political career and not into police work. Which doesn't mean, she wasn't capable if she wanted to be. You're right. She was right about Doakes and almost got Dexter. Which proves, that she could be a good cop, if she wants to. If she's motivated (like clearing Doakes name). But mostly she's not. Mostly she's not driven by solving a case, she's driven into her political career. The guard from S1 is proof. She didn't listen to Deb (who got the right instinct), ignored the facts, cause she wanted the case closed so she could prove to the media, that she can catch this killer.
To me, a good cops first priority has to be protect the people and catch the criminals, not just caring for their political career.
Exactly. Maria hated Deb (okay, maybe hate is to strong. She didn't like her) for her good instinct and her ideals (her desire to solve the case, no matter what others, like the media, thinks of her). Now that I think about it, maybe Maria also envied Deb. Maria choose her path (her political career over the police work) and maybe she regretted it. And there comes Deb, full of life and ideals and born with an instinct many cops would kill for …
Well, I have to admit, that I was surprised that Maria was actually capable of real police work. So, she COULD (have) be(en) a good cop. But she was a bad person and that was in her way of being a good cop, not her lack of instinct.
And I must say one more thing: I'm worried about Batista. He's a good cop. Strong instincts, capable, and he's not only motivated by a political career. He could be a danger to Dex. And you know how Dex handles danger. I don't want Angel to die.
Deb and Angel are good cops. Determined, strong instincts, …
It was Deb who was on the right trail with the ITK, and she was a rookie back then. It was her first case at homicide. And she realized and saw things, not even Angel noticed.
And it was Angel who was right about Mike and the bartender in S7. Mike was a good cop too. I'm sorry he died.
You got a point about Doakes. He was actually the only one who saw behind Dex mask.
Maria was never convinced, that Doakes was BHB. She would have suspect everyone and done everything to clear Doakes name. But she didn't suspect Dex till the end. At the beginning she was hitting on him.
Quinn didn't suspect Dex for being a serial killer. He only found it suspicious that Dex had a pretty young blond girl in his house, short after his wife was killed. But I doubt that he ever suspected Dex.
And of course Dex was always a step or two ahead. Every killer would be, if he would work with the officers, which were hunting him LOL. Best proof is S2, the BHB case. He deleted the recordings from the docks, destroyed the bodies (when he thought they were the clue to find out, where the butcher had his boat. Unfortunately it was the rocks).
Deb probably was in denial. Wouldn't you be too? Dex was not only he brother, but the one constant in her life. Her safe place. Of course she accepted or ignored the little things that were odd, that made him different.
So on a rewatch I picked up a few curious tadbits...
Word play/word association: Anton Briggs, Andrew Briggs
Brian/Brain
'El Sapo' I think is a translation for "toad", but it could be a pun for sap, or "sapling" (a tree) tying back to The Tree Top Killer...(might be a stretch, but we'll see)
Dr. Vogal might have been in England when Lila was, before Lila comes to the states...
The new actor playing Harrison (Jadon Wells) looks a great deal like two of the younger versions of Dexter. (in the collage I made, both Harrison and the Dexter on the right have plaid shirts too!)
I disagree too. I think almost all the characters except Angel have touch of sociopathic/pathological behavior, making them more 'flawed', but that is what makes them incredibly human and sometimes what helps them solve cases. (as Vogal said, maybe everyone in that field is "crazy". Or the idea that law enforcement and criminals have similar pathologies)
Yes, Deb, like Dexter have had nothing but continual losses. Of course she's in denial, because then she would have to accept the truth about herself...Deb keeps trying to lie to herself about who she is and want she wants. Very similar to how we have seen Dexter, Deb has this belief that she can't be happy.
Additionally we have to have the good and bad to everything in order to have a compelling drama. Sometimes Miami Metro is on, sometimes they're not, and sometimes they might have been able to do their job hadn't someone interfered...which then comes down to: what is truly justice, when Humanity is generally flawed?
I think Dexter was careless a number of times and would have been caught under normal circumstances. I completely empathize with Deb being in denial, but I also think that there were tons of instances where the division ignored clues or didn't follow up on certain things that they should have. I'm assuming that this was done in order to serve the plot, but if I needed a crime solved, I wouldn't be going to any of these guys.
I wouldn't exactly say that he was careless. He was following the code (not to leave behind any evidence), but sometimes things happen, you can't control or change (like Deb in the church, which was the reason for losing the slide, what caused LaGuertas investigation). But you're right. He would have been caught if he wouldn't work with the police. As I already commented, it's because he works with the police that he's always a step ahead.
Debs is in denial, as I said, because he's her brother. He was there for her when her father wasn't. They grew up together, which is one of the reasons, she accepted or ignored all the things you think she should be suspicious of. She's maybe also in denial, cause she thinks she should have notice it before. Or maybe she won't admit to herself, that she loved a serial killer all this years.
NOTE: Name-calling, personal attacks, spamming, excessive self-promotion, condescending pomposity, general assiness, racism, sexism, any-other-ism, homophobia, acrophobia, and destructive (versus constructive) criticism will get you BANNED from the party.
Wow. Dex is losing control BIG time.
ReplyDeleteomg i cant believe i missed Dexter so much!! it was awesome! Dex is losing it big time. He should try meditate or something.
They are both lost. Deb said she thought she couldn't live without him. And Dex said maybe he can't live without her. Maybe it's both! They were together their entire lives. She's maybe also in denial, cause she thinks she should have notice it before. Or maybe she won't admit to herself, that she loved a serial killer all this years.
mine too!
