I think the most staisfying scene for me was Arya stabbing the Frey soldier. In the books she has been on a dark road since stabbing the stable boy on purpose. D&D slow played her darkness since the actress is so young... and I get that. However, I missed my dark Arya!
Definitely Tyrion and Tywin giving a verbal smackdown of Joffrey. Loved them there. Also loved Arya getting a bit of payback, glad she got to do something. She and the Hound make a good tag team. And of course anything with Davos was great.
I had not noticed that how Arya killed that Frey soldier was not entirely dissimilar to how Lame Lothar killed Talisa. She set him up around a dinner table (campfire) and then stabbed him viciously and repeatedly.
Arya’s rage taken out on her victim was like the audience stabbing him repeatedly. It was viewer vengeance by proxy! XD
Arya for me: also i may be in the few but even when reading the books, i know we are to root for Danaery, but for me i barely started to like her character in the fifth book. i always liked the Starks=Bran Robb Arya Jon and even Tyrion way more then Dany. when the 6th book comes out i hope they flow Danys path the way they started to do in the 5th book for my sake. anyway great episode after the great sad episode can't wait till next year or next season which ever comes first.
I think we are in the 1% of the readers that disliked Dany prior to Meereen, but started changing their opinion about her in ADWD. I never cared for her character until ADWD... Still not near my favorite, but she is on the upswing.
I can't decide between the Rat Cook scene and Davos giving the letter to Stannis. Both scenes are among my favourites in the book. Sam reciting the really important part of his oath to Maester Aemon was also really great.
Tough call, as usual--and one could probably add as many scenes again. However, my favourite had to be the long council scene--the second choice above, with Tywin and Tyrion showing their contempt for Joffrey in their own ways and then engaging in their tete a tete. It's such a joy to watch masterful actors like Dance and Dinklage spark off of each other. The Tyrion/Sersei scene hasn't been mentioned by anyone else yet, but it was also a good one, especially as one of the extremely rare scenes in which it's almost possible to sympathize with Sersei, just a tiny little bit. And Sansa's notion of how one might take vengeance on one's enemies was priceless.
The Hound was such a perfect foster father laying the ground rules (next time she kills someone, she tells him first). I think those two are great for each other.
I think for the fact that it was so lovely Davos reading the letters and then seeing how this pays off later on. Also Bran telling the Rat Cook story was terrific I hope that non book readers now understand that the Red Wedding wasn't just messed up it saw the Freys commit such a sin.
Bran, by telling that little story, helped me articulate something that I have been trying to say ever since last week as I processed the events of The Rains of Castamere. So that was my favorite moment of the episode. Of all the things discussed about what happened in the Red Wedding, the fact remains that Walder Frey invited a man and his family to his house as his guests and slaughtered them while they had their guards down. All that proves is that no one can or should trust him, nothing more. I should really read the books. But I can't find the time. Hopefully by the time the next season comes out I will have caught up.
Tyrion, Tywin and Joffrey for me. I love when Joffrey goes crazy and Tyrion and Tywin put him down. Great great scene!! Arya and the Hound were also great, as was Jaime. Walter Frey´s howl was also amongst my favorites. It´s hard to choose...... I´m not a fan of Dany, so her scenes did not do a whole lot for me.
I'm hoping he may turn up next season to help flesh out Bran's arc since they ran through Bran's entire Storm of Swords arc for the most part. They will need new scenes and by moving Coldhands back maybe they can add some screen time for CH and Bran's clan.
I do wonder if he will show up at all though... As much as I liked him in the books he turned out to be less important in ADWD and may not be needed in the TV series.
Let's hope they use him to add new material to Bran's arc.
True. We see the dragons a lot (in almost every Dany scene), but I miss the direwolves, especially Ghost. And I find the Wargs very interesting, so I hope we see a lot more of that story next year.
NOTE: Name-calling, personal attacks, spamming, excessive self-promotion, condescending pomposity, general assiness, racism, sexism, any-other-ism, homophobia, acrophobia, and destructive (versus constructive) criticism will get you BANNED from the party.
So funny how you wrote the names of the scenes: Danaerys’s extended family grows considerably LOL.
ReplyDeleteI would add: Ser Devos practicing how to read and freeing Gendri

I also really loved Davos this week...
Roose Bolton and Walder Frey, and Reek.

ReplyDeleteGotta go with Arya, especially when the Hound is surprised that she took his blade. Very cool.
ReplyDeleteOn second watch I love that scene even more!

ReplyDeleteThe Jon and Ingrid scene almost made me cry!
ReplyDeleteSam the Slayer explaining Dragon-Glass was pretty epic especially "someone had to be first."

ReplyDeleteWould it be an overstatement to call Justin Bieber a real-life Joffrey?
ReplyDeleteArya getting a bit of a payback, long overdue after the scene Bolton & Frey gloat over Edmure's wedding.
ReplyDeleteJaime & Brienne's arrival wasn't so bad either,
ReplyDeleteThe Hound was such a perfect foster father laying the ground rules (next time she kills someone, she tells him first). I think those two are great for each other.

ReplyDeleteIt was a short scene but I loved the look Brienne gave him.
ReplyDeleteArya!!

They seem like they've been downplaying the magic angle of the book story quite a bit on the show, in general.
ReplyDeleteI liked reading Dany's chapters prior to book 5 because of Jorah.
ReplyDeleteTrue, unfortunately. :/

ReplyDeleteArya and payback.
Davos and Stanis
and
Other: Jaime and Brienne arrive at Kingslanding and share a moment.
