    Eddie Izzard hands down!

    ReplyDelete
  4. I voted for Rupert Grint. Then the Doctor could finally be ginger! Besides, I always said he should play the 12th doctor! But no to BC. He's already Sherlock.

    ReplyDelete
  5. Ralph Lucarella1 June 2013 at 22:59

    You bet!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  6. Ehhh they're not going to cast someone older than 40 IMHO.

    ReplyDelete
  7. I'll be wishing and hoping for Tennant to come back! But failing that I would quite like to see Johnny Lee Miller.

Damien Molony! I need that man back on tv!

    STEVE HOLT!

  10. Damn it, how did I forget to include Alex Vlahos in the poll!! :(

    ReplyDelete
  11. Is JLC leaving the show too?

    ReplyDelete
  12. Nope, she was confirmed in the press release for season 8

    ReplyDelete
  13. Christiana Naziris1 June 2013 at 23:08

Could we please have a backwards regeneration? If not, Johnny Lee Miller would be amazing, but not practical because of Elementary being renewed :/

    ReplyDelete
  14. Ellen McMurphy1 June 2013 at 23:09

    Idris Elba

  16. Richard Ayoade

  18. Very interesting tweet.... https://twitter.com/StephenMangan/status/340929821855055872

  19. They need to stick with smaller actors I think, so no Harry Potter actors. I love them, but they are too big. I like Ben Whishaw from The Hour.

    ReplyDelete
  20. Would be great, but he already played a pretty big character in an episode.

    ReplyDelete
  21. Also, no to Jonny Lee Miller. Elementary is awesome, no need to have it cancelled.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Kaalyn Johnson1 June 2013 at 23:26

They don't chase "names". They don't stunt cast.

Just cast the best actor for the role.

    ReplyDelete
  23. He'd be great, but he already said that he didn't want to do it. Plus like syfygeek said, he already played a character in the ep Midnight. Too bad.

    ReplyDelete
  24. It's gonna be someone completely unknown. Or at least not a huge star like half that list.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Oh no, how could you forget?!! Besides, the doctor should be even younger now, right? :P

    ReplyDelete
  26. It's a shame, I think she and Matt have great chemistry, but I'm sure she'll be fine with the new doctor.

    ReplyDelete
  27. I think Benedict Cumberbatch is a little busy at the moment, you know, with a couple minor roles :P But he'd be great as the Doctor too :)

But like other's said, I think it'll be someone relatively new or unknown...who knows

    ReplyDelete
  28. Alan Tudyk. He'd be awesome and the backlash for casting an American actor would be huge.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Actually, i kind of like the idea of Rupert Grint... Don't know why, but he could work out well. I'm not a fan of the Harry Potter movies(I think that, except 1 and 2, all sucked), but i wouldn't be mad with that...

But Johnny Lee Miller would be SPECTACULAR!!! But i like Elementary too, so... :P

I'm by half of Season 4(David Tennant), watching it on Netflix... It's an incredible show! IDK what took me so long!

The first episode i watched was The Eleventh Hour... I'm at super speed 'cause i want to reach Matt's Doctor with Amy and Rory!

I will never forget: "Is this world protected? (Flash of Cybermen, Daleks, The Master, etc) Now ask yourself this question: What Happened to them? (Flash of the Doctors) Hi, I'm The Doctor..."

That part sold me the show... So badass against that Giant Eyeball!

    ReplyDelete
  30. it would be good way to have a merlin/doctor who crossover.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Someone with sex appeal, I'm really enjoying that aspect of the show, while Chris was brilliant, I loved Ten and Smith for their obvious attractiveness, as vain as it is, I quite like that about the past few years vs old who.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Giorgio Corrado2 June 2013 at 02:03

I understand the third Doctor Who Jon Pertwee has a son who is a well known actor and it would be nice to see his son become the next Doctor Who.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Urszula Turkiewicz2 June 2013 at 02:06

surely you mean Rory Kinnear, Roy Kinnear is dead.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Urszula Turkiewicz2 June 2013 at 02:28

I would love to see Robert Carlyle play The Doctor much in the same vain he plays Mr. Gold (not Rumplestiltskin... or not much) on OUAT. Unfortunately, he is on OUAT which means he probably won't be available.

I don't think Moffat will hire anyone who isn't a white male, though.

    ReplyDelete
  35. How about Jamie Dornan?

    ReplyDelete
  36. MY BODY IS READY TOO!!!

    ReplyDelete
  37. He'd be fantastic if they went with a darker Doctor.

    ReplyDelete
  38. Nothing wrong with that. That's certainly a factor for the companions so I don't see the problem of considering it when choosing the Doctor.

    ReplyDelete
  39. So, I'm gonna go against the grain and actually put a realistic name in the hat.

Domhnall Gleeson. I never watched Harry Potter but he was brilliant in Black Mirror's "I'll Be Right Back."

    ReplyDelete
  40. Rob Sheehan, Gary Oldman, Eddie Izzard...Pick one to be Doctor, companion, Master.

    ReplyDelete
  41. But do you remember Wesley at the beginning? It would be hilarious!

    ReplyDelete
  42. Robert Carlyle would be an interesting, albeit impossible choice. As for people mentioned above, Idris Elba, Eddie Izzard and Stephen Mangan all sound good to me.

    ReplyDelete
  43. A young(ish) female with red hair - so he gets to be ginger, but not quite how he expected. And generally the Doctor seems to get younger with each regeneration so I'm thinking mid-late 20's.

    ReplyDelete
  44. lizardplusfour2 June 2013 at 06:50

    Aiden Gillan...brilliant

    ReplyDelete
  45. Kaalyn Johnson2 June 2013 at 07:26

    No female Doctor please.

I mean, it could only come off as a stunt. The character is a man, he identifies as a man. He has, in spite of what classic Whovians might wish, a sexual identity. It would be far too much of a "look at what we did" thing than an actual, reasonable casting choice.

    Race is a different matter.

    ReplyDelete
  46. I voted other because i can't see this actors playing the doctor. I also can't say a name just like that.

    ReplyDelete
  47. If they had the right actress it wouldn't necessarily come off as a stunt.... and they've established the Doctor's sexual identity is not necessarily straight & narrow ie. flirting with Jack, flirting with aliens of undetermined sex etc. And they've never really explored relationships on Gallifrey.

    ReplyDelete
  48. Cassandra Schwarz2 June 2013 at 08:01

Karen Gillan and Freema Agyeman both played different characters on Doctor who before they were companions.

    ReplyDelete
  49. Joseph Morgan :P

    ReplyDelete
  50. NO ONE ELSE THAN MATT SMITH ;(

    ReplyDelete
  51. Damien Molony would be pretty great but I want a different kind of Doctor.

Lets face it Helen Mirren, JLM, Robert Carlyle are not possible candidates, if they got Mirren it would be for one season only and a waste and the other two are regulars in other tv shows. Cumberbatch won't do it, he has a movie career.

I think tha someone like Roy Kinnear or Ben Daniels has a better chance, they are well etablished but not huge.

Like the idea of Adrian Lester. Would really love a black Doctor or a female one. Screw tradition.

No one guessed Matt Smith though so I will be surprised if any of the rumours

    ReplyDelete
  52. Stephen Mangan would be a great Doctor, loved him in incredibly underrated Dirk Gently.

    ReplyDelete
  53. He has been so good and incredibly creepy in The Fall,

    ReplyDelete
  54. Justyna Kubica2 June 2013 at 10:11

As much as I'd love to see someone like Colin Morgan as the Doctor, I think they're not looking for big names, so I'm just hoping he's gonna be amazing, just like the rest of the Doctors :)

    ReplyDelete
  55. Same here, plus we might might be one step closer to a Howard Overman script if Stephen was on board...I can dream, right :D

    ReplyDelete
  56. That's why I added Sam Troughton to the list, his dad has been in the show twice and his granddad was the Second Doctor. Only thing is, he'd like to play a baddie in Who rather than a good guy :(

    ReplyDelete
  57. Jonny Lee Miller is already playing Sherlock Holmes in Elementary. An is excellent at it.

    ReplyDelete
  58. I dunno, the person who's been mentioned the most for the last couple of months is nearly 50.

    ReplyDelete
  59. Just thought of the actor I would love in the role, it won't happen but Naveen Andrews (Sayid from Lost)

    ReplyDelete
  60. Yeah I know. I'm really enjoying him in it too. From watching him in Elementary I think he might be an interesting Doctor :)

    ReplyDelete
  61. Jim Broadbent would be fantastic as an older Doctor. He's got a great range as an actor and he can pull off being whimsical despite his age. He was great in Cloud Atlas.

    ReplyDelete
  62. All are great choces! I think Benedict would be an awesome Doctor, but he is already Sherlock :)

    ReplyDelete
  63. Robert O'Donnell2 June 2013 at 17:31

Yeah, there's no way they would have him play both Sherlock and the Doctor.

They've gone for unknowns for every Doctor up to this point (except for John Hurt, who doesn't really count).

    ReplyDelete
  64. Robert O'Donnell2 June 2013 at 17:33

Just throwing Chiwetel Ejiofor's name out there.

    ReplyDelete
  65. He's American, so it won't happen.

    ReplyDelete
  66. Is that John Terry the footballer or John Terry the actor?

    ReplyDelete
  67. Haha, how many times do bookies offer the same bet, 250/1, on either Simon Cowell or Tom Cruise landed the same plumb acting role XD

    ReplyDelete
  68. Most likely the actor, though unless they're going the older Doctor route again, I doubt he'll be the new one.

    ReplyDelete
  69. I know its so silly, who would actually waste money on that bet?

    ReplyDelete
  70. Yes! Another great choice.

    ReplyDelete
  71. Ok so this is really just a goofy suggestion, but the more I think about it, the more I could actually picture it...

The New Doctor is...... Russel Brand

    ReplyDelete
  72. he did a mean English accent on Buffy though!

    ReplyDelete
  73. I think they should go with a slightly older doctor again... Henry Ian Cusick is a name I've seen mentioned around and I agree with... But I think it would be good for them to go with a relatively unknown actor to play the part.

    ReplyDelete
  74. John Noble!

I kid, I really don't know who would be best in the role.

    ReplyDelete
  75. istoppedbelieving.2 June 2013 at 20:50

    Robert Sheehan anyone?

    ReplyDelete
  76. Yeah, he was rather old in 24, and that was 2003!

    ReplyDelete
  77. I think either Aidan Turner or Andrew Lee Potts

    ReplyDelete
  78. We can't have big hollywood actors as the doctor, another reason why Harry Lloyd would be perfect. this dude can act.

    ReplyDelete
  79. Tracy Robinson2 June 2013 at 22:58

Either Richard Coyle or Ben Whishaw would be my choice, slightly serious but also with a fun side.

    ReplyDelete
  80. MasterOfSwords13 June 2013 at 02:18

Am I the only one who would like to see Stephen Merchant?

    ReplyDelete
  81. matt smith FTW

    ReplyDelete
  82. Patterson Joseph or BILL NIGHY. I will never stop schilling for BILL NIGHY when a new Doctor needs to be cast.

    ReplyDelete
  83. Lalla Ward played a big character in an episode and she returned in the next serial as the new incarnation of Romana. Playing a previous character on the show, no matter how big or small, is not an issue with Doctor Who.

    ReplyDelete
  84. Cumberbatch for the new Master. And a proper Master at that. I love John Simm but I absolutely hated the nu!Who Master RTD wrote.

    ReplyDelete
  85. Were Eccleston and Tennant that unknown in England before DW?

    ReplyDelete
  86. I think Sean said he would never do the role because of the fact his father played it.

    ReplyDelete
  87. Right. Romana tried on bodies of males, females, and aliens when trying to figure out what body she wanted when she changed from Mary Tamm to Lalla Ward. She very much identified as female as Romana I, too, and had no problem giving a male body a try.

    ReplyDelete
  88. But can he do that and Game of Thrones? Littlefinger's role is going to expand quite a bit over the next few seasons.

    ReplyDelete
  89. Aww, I've loved Matt Smith the most of the new Doctors and I'm even excited about someone new. Open your heart and let the sunshine in. :)

    ReplyDelete
  90. Oh my God ... YES. That would be a freaking awesome choice! No way it'd happen, like you said, but man .. awesome.

    ReplyDelete
  91. And in the Doctor's Wife episode where the Doctor receives the message cube from his friend.. he mentions knowing the other Time Lord as both male and female.

    ReplyDelete
  92. Andrew Gower news4 June 2013 at 12:17

Andrew Gower from Being Human please!

    ReplyDelete
  93. Gill Proudfoot4 June 2013 at 16:02

    Yes, Damien Molony!

    ReplyDelete
  94. Gill Proudfoot4 June 2013 at 16:05

Damien has the ability to make the role a different kind of Doctor!

    ReplyDelete
  95. Sean Pertwee

    ReplyDelete
  96. Alan Rickman

    ReplyDelete
  97. Laurence Fox, please.

    ReplyDelete
  98. Gill Proudfoot6 June 2013 at 06:37

Why do people keep choosing famous people? Both David and Matt were relatively unknown when they were cast. Damien is not well-known (apart from Being Human fans) and is a great actor.

    ReplyDelete
  99. In the Karen Gillan case she was pretty much unrecognizably painted and in Freema they played it off as a relative. I realize you do have the Lalla Ward precedent but I'd say they have at least implied the Doctor doesn't have that sort of control on his regens. Having said all of that even a moderately major character from a single episode 5 years ago I wouldn't think would be a major issue to just quietly ignore. You already had the 6th Doctor actually in a 5th Doctor episode where he shot the Doctor, though that was an exceedingly minor part.

    ReplyDelete
  100. In fairness to John Simm I think most of the horridness of the new Master was RTDs fault. Every credit for getting the show restarted but RTD penned some of the worst episodes of the series.

    ReplyDelete
  101. That's why I said I hated the Master RTD wrote. I saw an interview with Simm, and it was obvious he wasn't too happy with it, either. He stated, "I played the role exactly how it was written on the page and in the direction I received." Not Simm's fault, but RTD almost ruined one of my favorite DW characters. The only RTD episode I liked, maybe even loved, was "Midnight". One of my favorites to rewatch from the whole RTD Era.

    ReplyDelete
  102. Kaalyn Johnson9 June 2013 at 01:55

Honestly? Didn't mind Simms Crazy!Master (at least beyond the human eating and unexplained super powers of The End of Time), because I could never take the Master seriously in the classic series.

Roger Delgado and Anthony Ainley were pretty good actors, but they were still portraying a goatee'd braggart villain - which was a beaten down cliche in 1975, is now complete self-parody.

    ReplyDelete
  103. Ben Whishaw or DAN HOWELL. How could no one have thought of him yet?

    ReplyDelete
  104. Firstly, no no no to the big name actors which includes my partner wanting to see Christopher Walken in the role. Secondly, I'd like someone older in the role. Matt Smith is just a replacement David Tennant and getting away from that 'sex object' image would weed out all the sexed up fangirls who only watch so they have something to perv at. Also, a little variety in the companions please, enough of the swooney female companions thanks, there have been male companions in the past, perhaps a return of Captain Jack. When Matt's Doctor first met Amy she was a little girl and I kinda liked that idea, the Doctor in a sort of protective father type role. Oh and finally, sayonara Moffat if it's all right.

    ReplyDelete
  105. Paisley Simpson2 August 2013 at 22:08

Well, David Tennant had starred in Taking Over The Asylum, Cassonova and Blackpool before Who.

    ReplyDelete
  106. Tom Hiddleston would be perfect!!!!!!!!!!!!
