  1. This season is brilliant.

    - THAT FIGHT AT THE BEGINNING!!! AWESOME!
    - Jon and Ygritte... it was just like in the books :)
    - Lady Olenna and Tyrion, amazing and badass.
    - The scenes in Riverrun are so intense and interesting!
    - I still think that Jaime and Brienne storyline is the most amazing one this season. Everytime they share a scene is incredible, as well as the acting. I love them <3
    - Daenerys is such an amazing character!
    - Tywin, Cersei and Tyrion... their faces when they found out Tywin's plans lol
    - The song at the end e.e

  2. They're going back to the same format as in Season 1, which is awesome. The scene pacing keeps the show exciting, with almost all the characters getting a fair amount of screen time.

I also love how they are dealing with story-lines first established back in Season 1, which includes Robb's failure to keep his promise to the Freys and Jorah's first intentions towards Daenerys. Also, I love the conversations that involve backdrops and the pasts of the characters. We get more insight, and the show is more interesting to follow.

A very well done episode, and that opening scene...just wow.

  3. There was so much awesome content in that episode I almost cannot stand it!

The Hound vs Beric was one of the most expected fight scenes of the series. It was so much better than I could have expected. Simply AWESOME!

Poor Robb, his Kingly status was sealed as soon as his mom let the Kingslayer go and he betrayed his marriage pledge to the Freys. But I get ahead of myself....

Tyrion is to be a married man and Cersei to be married again. Good news is that this husband will not want to have sex with her! XD

Interesting twist to haveLoras take a Littlefinger spy as a lover leading to Tywin finding out about the Tyrell/ Stark wedding plans. Now whatever will Loras do to avoid being married to Cersei? XD

We finally got to see Stannis Baratheon's wiife and daughter! Sylese looked just like I imagined her and Shireen looked incredible! Last week we had Margaery joking about porridge plague and now we get to see it first hand. I wonder if the series will call it Greyscale like in the books or keep the more folksy Porridge Plague name?

Jon Snow may know nothing, but he taught Ygritte something now didn't he? XD

It was nice to see Arya's reciting her kill list again. I had expected to hear it mmore often since she recites it every night as she goes to sleep.

How often is it that Tyrion talks with Olenna Redwyne and it is not the scene of the night? Fun scene, but there was one better.....

Scene of the night for me was Jaime and Brienne in the baths! People finally got to hear the truth behind why Jaime killed his King and has ever since been loathed by most of the world. That scene was so well done! Amazing!

Amazing episode overall with not a single bad scene. So many awesome scenes that the usual suspects like Tywin, Tyrion and the Queen of Thorns were not the highlight of the night!

  4. The only stuff I could've done without was North of the Wall. I'm fine
with Jon, but his storylines bored me in the books and is boring me on
    the show.

    ReplyDelete
  5. I thought Magaery was kidding about the Plague? She said it was something they only had where she was from, which led to Sansa believing her. Grayscale is definitely what Shireen will be said to have, since it's nothing like the disease Margaery described last week.

  6. Jon's arcs were some of my favorite in the books, but I agree that his story has been a bit bland on the TV series. However, this year so far is better than last year and tonight's episode was Jon's best since Season 1 I think.

I'm loving the Jamie and Brienne scenes, the actors have great chemistry and Jamie's fall has lead to an interesting character changed. Also someone please tell me Tywin dies soon.

  8. Personally I thought the description of Porridge Plague was VERY similar to Greyscale.... especially as a visual description! Imagine rubbing porridge on flesh and it surely looks like stone... Looking at Shireen's face it certainly looks like she had porridge rubbed on it to me!

Even Margaery's description sounds like it to me. Flesh looking like boiled oats and eventually sliding off leading to death. Not exactly like skin being crackled and dry so it looks like grey stone, but not very dissimilar either.

Plus the series often sets up things by mentioning them an episode or two before they actually introduce it into an episode. For example, they bring up Stannis's family in 3x03 then introduce them in 3x05. They mention Porridge Plague in 3x04 and then introduce Shirren in 3x05... Seems like too much of a coincidence to me.

I can easily imagine the unwashed smallfolk calling Greyscale the Porridge Plague. I can also see it being two different things, but I will not be surprised if they are one and the same.

  9. This show just gets more awesome every episode... even the characters you don't like are the result of great performances and outstanding attention to detail.

  10. Much as I hate Jaime and think Brienne is dumb as a post... their scenes are undeniably amazing.

  12. Don't get me wrong, I like the Brotherhood, but, why can't dead people stay dead? I hope they take Arya in and train her.
Glad Jon finally found himself a girl. Hope she'll live long enough. Yeah, I got what she meant. I too wouldn't want to leave that cave. Private and warm and a good-looking and good man at her side …
Poor Jamie. Wow. Jamie and Brienne taking a bath together? "Don't worry, not interested" True. First, he only loves his sister. Second, by the pain he feels now, he probably wouldn't even be able to do it. Good that we now know the story. Know why he did kill the king. And he was right to do it. I already
said that I would never swear an oath like that. Cause I know I couldn't keep it in a situation like that. To swear an oath to protect your king is one thing. But slaughtering hundreds or thousands of man women and children for no other reason than the king saying so?
Does Robb really think Frey will give him his army? He already broke a word he gave him. Robb agreed to marry his daughter and he didn't. Why should Frey help him? What does Robb have to offer him?
I don't know who I should feel sorry for more. Tyrion or Sansa.
Cersei is such a bitch. She laughed at the thought that Tyrion has to marry Sansa if they like it or not, but she wouldn't marry Loras. Maybe it's time the Lannister kids put an end to their fathers terror regime.
Olenna is so cool. I love her.
Danny was great. She would make a good queen.

    ReplyDelete
  13. "Good news is that this husband will not want to have sex with her" LOL. She'll have more time for her brother once he returns.
Why are Stannis wife and daughter locked away? He would be more merciful to kill them.
I'm too glad that we finally know the story behind Jamie. He did the right thing. I wouldn't loathe him, I would have welcome him as a hero.

    ReplyDelete
  14. I personally hope his kids show him what they learned from him and kill him.

    ReplyDelete
  15. Agree. I never liked Jamie. Now I do.

    ReplyDelete
  16. That is why Margaery will be able to control Joffrey.
I love Olenna. She's so cool

  17. Good to hear, Kiaraa. It only get´s better and better from now on. :-)

  18. really?! I loved Jon´s story in the books. In the series his scenes are never on the top of my list, but they are never boring either. The upcoming seasons should provide Jon with lots of really good scenes. I for one am looking forward to them.

    ReplyDelete
  19. Just wait and see....Robb does have something to offer they Freys. It is gonna be great!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  20. I have to agree. I also noticed how they mentioned things that happend in season one. I also like how Ned is mentioned in several conversations. It makes a complete story.

    ReplyDelete
  21. With losing his hand and getting into depression he showed a vulnerable side and not just his arrogance. And he showed honor by defending Brienne.

    ReplyDelete
  22. What?!?!? When he declared himself King of the North he had to offer power and independence form the iron throne. He was a good match (a good choice for a husband). What can he offer now, that he's married?

    ReplyDelete
  23. I will not say....it´s gonna be a good surprice. :-)

  24. This was another brilliant episode. Jaime and Brienne´s scenes were once more the best. Nikolaj C-W did such a good job portraying the broken Jaime and the dynamic between the two is spot on. I don´t mind that the tv series doesn´t always follow the story in the books, but I am SO happy that Jaime and Briennes story seems to follow the books very closely.
It was great to see Stannis wife and daughter. They seemed to fit their parts.

Jon and Ygritte´s scene was also just like in the books. I like the story of the north (though not as much as in the books), but I am really missing Ghost. He was such a big part of the books, it is a shame they don´t use him more.
The Queen of Thornes is taking over Kings Landing. No matter who she is sitting across from I only notice her. More screen time for her!!!!

The only thing I missed in this episode was Lord Varys. He had so many awesome scenes last week and I was hoping for more.

    ReplyDelete
  25. LOVED THIS ONE!

-Brienne and Jamie continue to have some of the BEST chemistry/scenes on the show so far!
-Arya's fierceness and taste for justice was pretty shocking. (And really Gendry, don't you think you should escort your lady home first?) -But what a cool fight scene.

-Hmmm Barristan Selmy already disappoints me. I don't know how good his council and rivalry with Jorah is?

-Amazing that Stannis could have such a lovely daughter (deformity/scaring aside) considering both her parents floor me...

-Oh, Rob, you're making bad decisions...

-LOL! to Twyn's plans for both Tyrion and Cersei! -He's so EVIL though!

-And finally Jon Snow! Were those caves "hot" or something? If so that's another cool contrast!

    ReplyDelete
  26. I like it too! They're re-establishing the tie-backs VERY well as we start to move more aggressively ahead!

    ReplyDelete
  27. I haven't read more than AGOT and prequel novellas, but I feel like Jon's story is just getting started...I feel like going to the wall and meeting the wildings is just the beginnings of a bigger story...But I do love how Arya's and Bran's story seems to parallel his at times. It allows the fate elements to be a bit sronger...

Ultimately though I feel like Jon and Dany is the BIG thing that is eventually headed on a collision course....

    ReplyDelete
  28. I think the thing that made Jon's arcs so interesting for me in the books was the surrounding cast. The Night's Watch, and later the Wildlings, are full of so many fun and interesting characters, but the series has to trim everything back so much that most of Jon's supporting cast has either been cut or is almost unrecognizable compared to the books.

I do agree though that this season is really the beginning of Jon's story to a large degree. I would have thought last season with Qhorin would have been, but they slashed that arc so much it felt flat to me.

It's hard for Jon to compete with Dany- she has dragons! XD
I think many some viewers have not really caught on that the "Ice" and "Fire" in the source material's title (if they even know the source material book and saga titles) can be connected to Jon and Dany to a large degree.

They are definitely connected in a few ways, and could well be on a collision course.

  29. His character has the greatest personal journey in the books I think. Possibly Theon too depending on how the future books play out I guess. Other characters have insecurities they have to overcome or they have personal issues that are their downfall, but both Jaime and Theon go through life altering events that change them not only on a spiritual level, but on a physical level as well.

    ReplyDelete
  30. Let´s hope for that!! (Dany/Jon)

I like the whole story about the wildlings. In the books we get a bigger picture of who they are and what they stand for. That is missing a bit in the series. While everybody in the seven kingdoms makes their claim to the throne, and are busy fighting wars, the wildlings sees something else entirely and have other worries. They are in many ways much more likeable that most of the people from Westeros.

  31. On second viewing I caught a fun detail!

Selyse names her three miscarried boys on the shelf as Petyr, Tomard and Edric.

The last two were full characters in the books. Edric Storm was Robert's bastard and Tomard was a fat personal guard to the Starks in the first book. Both characters have been left out of the books.
There is a character named Petyr in the books that would be arriving in a couple episodes, but my guess is Petyr "Pimple" Frey will be cut as well.

So all three of Selyse's miscarriages are characters cut from the series! XD

  32. D&D have done a nice job creating new dialog, but I just love when they use lines from the books.

It really rings true when D&D manage to keep dialog from the books. The Greyworm scene, Jaime and Brienne and Jon and Ygritte's scenes were all quite similar to the books with segments of lines lifted verbatim.

Although I did miss one line of dialog last night I thought would be used for sure!

The Hound saying, "This cave is dark...but I'm the terror here."

    ReplyDelete
  33. I just noticed you are using Frank the Rabbit now! XD
I had a blue smoke version as my icon for a couple years....

  34. At the beginning Jamie was arrogant. A spoiled rich boy, always having his daddy or his guards to get him out of trouble. And trying to kill Bran didn't help much to make him popular in my eyes. At the beginning. Now I see that there is more to him. He has honor I never believed him to have. He killed the tyrant that was his former king and he saved Brienne from being raped and killed. And losing his hand gives him the possibility to reinvent himself and become someone different.

Don't really care much about Theon right now. But maybe he'll change too. Right now he's an asshole with no loyalty. The Starks always treated him well. On day with his asshole father who blames Theon that he gave him away, and he betrays them.

  35. "Let´s hope for that!! (Dany/Jon)"

Oh, I do! XD I don't really publicly ship very much, but once in a while I do feel a strong connection to want to really root for a pair. This would be one of those cases, but I know if it would happen, it would be something left towards the end of the series as their respected stories are building to that possibility.

It's too bad the Wildings stories have been cut back so much. I do think they're interesting to say the least. Game of Thrones seems to have such a nice diversity of people and races while being son entangled, which is what makes the series SO interesting IMO.

  36. I love series that have living-dead/post death/reincarnated concepts, because it allows those series to ask bigger philosophical/metaphysical questions in relation to 'something bigger' than ourselves and the implications those things pose. I don't think it will be something that gets point blank answered, but rather gives viewers more justification and excuses for being able to go along with characters who have done/may do deplorable things, as clearly "Winter is Coming" really refers to a specific cycle of life and death in the processes of reoccurring in this universe.

    ReplyDelete
  37. Oh wow this season is really just showing what the series is capable off, it is blowing me away every week for different reasons.

I do like the changes they have made and I am so intrigued as to where the Cersei/Loras thing is heading, Lena really played the reaction well. Twyin Lannister is clearly father of the year! What a lovely man.

Happy we got to see Stannis family, also perfectly ok Patchface seems to be cut, he freaked me out a lot in the books. Now we still get the creepy songs with Shireen but also lots of cuteness, she is adorable!

Maise Williams continues to be amazing as Arya, her scene with Gendry was a highlight. I feel for the kid I really do.

Now onto the main event (no not Jon Snow smiling though that was nice!) but Jaime/Brienne, well damn if I wasn't already in love with the pair of them I would have fallen for them in this episode. Nikolaj played the hell out of that scene really think GOT/HBO should think about pushing him for an Emmy, makes me wonder if that is why Gwendoline isn't listed as a regular despite being in most eps this season thinking they may be trying to position her as a Guest Star Emmy.

  38. I'm still watching TVD. Of course I'm disappointed the way the show went since S1 and 2. But it was a great show and I think it can be once again, when Klaus is gone. I would stop watching it for 2 reasons. 1. Caroline sleeping with Klaus. 2. The family staying for a S5. But I indent to at least watch till the end of this season. If I'll be back for S5 depends if Klaus will be back.

Will Gendry ever know he's Roberts bastard son? It doesn't surprise me that Robert had more children. As I got it, he had a thing for whores (one thing I hate about society in the past. It was completely acceptable for men to go to whores, but it was unacceptable if women to have lovers). Were they also killed in the books, or do they really have a part? I hardly believe that bastards are a threat. They can't be used as heirs, can they? I mean in the noble families.

  39. :-) Had a black and white one before with a quote on. Donnie Darko is the best film ever. :-) Frank is fascinating.

  40. Thanks for the further explanations!

I probably should clarify that like you, I like it if it's used a certain way, as opposed to a complete escape goat. I like when it can be used to show something transitional in terms of one's identity, challenging what the definition of off anything really is. Game of Thrones seems to use it culturally and had gradually build on it. -It's something we learn about as we go, just as some of the characters do. When it's used like that, I think it beautifully enhances the story!

    ReplyDelete
  41. I like Vampire stuff A lot, but I'm surely an Anne Rice and Charlaine Harris girl.

I have tried TVD a few times, but couldn't get into it for the same reasons I can't get into most other CW shows, because I don't find it thought provoking or insightful, but rather geared towards teen romance. However, next year looks like the CW might be changing that image, as there probably be 2 or 3 shows I may check out depending if any of them get picked up. (I'm really hoping that The Hundred makes it and goes outside of the CW's traditional stance.

As to your question, "Isn't death meaningless if people don't stay dead?" That's for the viewer to decide, but IMO, for me, it depends on "how" one comes back and presenting the question of, "if they really are the same person?", really intriguing. I also think once in while a story where one is willing to go through hell and back to find someone can also be good stories. It's only when people are constantly brought back to life and/or there's nothing challenging the viewer that their might be something different about them, that I think is a bore and just doesn't do much for a story.

  42. Know only Anns movies, never had the time to read the books. Interview is for me one of the best movies ever. I just loved Claudia! Kristen played better than Tom or Brad, if you ask me. And in The Queen the music was better than the movie (story). The story was too pop and too familiar. Never heard of Charlaine Harris. Sorry.

I too had my thoughts about TVD. Too old. A human falls for a vampire. How boring. Seen (or read) it 100000 times before. I watched it cause I liked the idea of her choosing between the brothers. Loved the first two seasons. Now I just hope they get rid of Klaus and start a new chapter or I quit.
Well, on TVD it bothered me that people rarely stayed dead. Most of the major characters came back as vamps or with magical rings, sometimes they were brought back by a witch. And people are always getting hurt, but are healed by vampire blood. At the beginning it was weird, but oaky, even good. Now it's just weird. And then everyone is upset if someone really dies and stays dead. The show is drifting further apart from reality. I know, I know. It's a sci-fi show about vampires. But still there are elements where writers could use some bit of reality.

"I think death and various kinds of life extension can be used to to elevate a story, but it has to help the cause of the themes by creating something new from it." You're absolutely right. O.K., on GoT it's not so common for people to come back. On TVD it's getting annoying and as normal as breathing.

"Death can be just like Jamie loosing a hand, it's all about what "something" does and means for the character and that has to do with what was/is important to that character and if a physical change can emotionally drive them and take them to new depths of themselves..." I like the way you think. Death doesn't have to mean death, but also the end of something and a new start. The card "Death" in tarot is in fact a positive card, did you know that? It doesn't symbolize a physical death, but the end of something, a situation or problem, and with that the beginning of something new.

  43. What gets me about Theon now, on the show, is he finally admitted his real father lost his head in King's Landing. He knows he was never going to be Ironborn, he was always a Stark. And he screwed it all up.

    ReplyDelete
  44. <>

Wouldn't that be something discussed in relation to Ramsay Snow/Bolton? His father promised him legitimacy if he succeeded in his mission.

    ReplyDelete
  45. It was stated somewhere Edric was cut and Gendry's filling in for him.

    ReplyDelete
  46. Certainly could..

My guess is it might be up to the father where he choose to place the legitimized bastard. Seems like if the head of the house can choose an heir, they might also be able to place a legitimized bastard wherever they want.

Have to see how/ if it plays out in the books I guess.

    ReplyDelete
  47. me too, that´s what I love about it. And there are some great lines in that movie.

  48. Better late than never.

  49. Greyscale was always described like it was scaly skin. Or that's how it sounded to me. Shireen's face definitely looked as though she were from the on V television series (I never saw the new one, so ... ). It looked hard and scaly, whereas the disease Margaery described sounded the exact opposite.

    ReplyDelete
  50. I just never did like Jon. He had moments. And North of the Wall bored me because I never much cared about the Wildlings, either. I couldn't stand Ygritte. She's less irritating on the series, though.

    ReplyDelete
  51. ha! so I wasn't the only one noticing Jon aka Kit's beautiful smile? ;)

    ReplyDelete
  52. Shireen is beyond adorable. Before we only had Arya, the rebellious tomboy and Sansa, the pretty little lady. Now we have female child # 3, the sweet, sad Shireen.

  53. This season is just non stoppable. It is my personal favorite season of the show so far, by far! So many highlights in this episode!
