  2. I love this show! Nolan and Irisa's relationship is so cute. Daddy!Nolan is the best.

Really hope this gets renewed for a second season.

  3. pretty good ep, not as good as the pilot but gave us some more exposition on the enigmatic Irisa who so far is my favorite character, as well as "Pimp Hat" (or whatever his name is), the Spirit Rider leader who might be something of a religious leader of the Irathients. I really would like to see how Nolan and Irisa found each other as I enjoy their realtionship..

  4. Decent episode but this show has a few things to work on.
    - Once again, the relationship between Nolan and Irisa is by far the best aspect of Defiance.
-The murder mystery was alright but would have been much better as a standard whodunit instead of needlessly bringing those ridiculous CGI bugs into it. I have a hard time believing they'd be in the show if it weren't for the video game tie-in.
    - Kenya (Mia Kirshner) and her weird S&M food thing was just goofy.
    - The "Ooh Child" montage at the end was cheesier than a Walmart dairy isle.
    - From the moment I saw it in the pilot, I knew the "Romeo & Juliet" subplot would be a drag on the show and so far I'm right. Defiance doesn't need to give those kids screen time. The whole Tarr / McCawley power struggle stuff would work much better without the teens.
    - This week's episode suffered a little without the political intrigue angle. It seemed a bit too much like a clunky, run-of-the-mill Sci-fi show. Without it, Nolan and Irisa were carrying the whole episode.

My humble, amateur TV viewer advice:
    - Ditch the kid stuff.
    - Don't let Kenya be a one-note, generic sexpot character. It's a waste of talent and screen time.
    - Don't waste time on weekly plots that don't A.) explore these alien races and their cultures, B.) explore the town of Defiance and how it operates, or C.) make forward progress on the show's mytharc(s).

    - Don't let Kenya be a one note, generic sexpot character.

  6. Overall I like the show and I want to like it more but sometimes it's a struggle. I seem to go back and forth within each episode... some scenes seem to suck the fx budget for the episode leaving other scenes looking poor, and the acting goes from really dramatic to really wooden. And last but not least the characters themselves... Nolan is supposed to be the good guy but tends to be quite the alien bigot despite raising Irisa.

  7. Despite wearing a fuzzy green bath mat, I'm digging the leader of the Spirit Riders! XD

I will never get food fetishists or men into infantilism!
Although I did giggle at Kenya looking at her cat clock and counting the minutes until her john's time was up! XD

Like the family dynamic on Terra Nova ruined the series (or more specifically the kids), I'm afraid the Christie and Alak romance is on a similar path of destruction. Sad because Graham Greene is a good actor with great comedic timing who is being wasted playing a one-note dour father protecting his daughter.

I'm glad there were no Bio-men or orangutan-like Sensoths! Something about those two species put me off. Unlike Farscape where each race seemed to conform to one overall style, on here those two really stand out as different than the more humanoid races to me.

Something about the rhythm of the show seems a bit off to me. I cannot put a finger on it. I do know the cheesy VFX don't help.

If I were NolanI may have waited to throw the charges until I knew the elevator was going to worj again. Just saying. XD

I guess it was more of a step sideways than back, but I do know it was not a step forward from the pilot episodes. Hopefully the series finds its footing and sticks around a while.
