  1. well,ok - but it was from 1 week online after all

  2. Am I the only one that notices a pattern in some of these poor ratings? C/W shows aren't doing too well..

  3. Revolution was also up online before it premiered..

  4. 0.2s and 0.3s are becoming all too common on the CW these days and not too long ago people were freaking out about 0.4s and 0.5s.

  5. Who knows, I know I'm waiting for the show to air on TV. Maybe it didn't reach a lot of people that it was online.

  6. CW has a bad rep and not a lot of people have the channel as basic cable doesn't carry it and it's not a basic satellite channel either.

  7. It makes you wonder who greenlights their shows, doesn'it? Sometimes I think they have no idea what they're doing.

    ReplyDelete
  8. And it;s getting worse each season.

  9. I'm always watching if it's online; and the pilot of Cult was better than the pilot of Revolution, but maybe this show is too complicated for some people...

  10. I guess the fact it's in the 'deathslot' you can accept lower than standard ratings but that is horrible for Cult, especially with the amount of promotion they put into it. I can't judge since I haven't watched the pilot but I thought the shows premise seemed a little silly and try hard from the promo's (just my opinion). If only they kept Emily Owens ....

  11. Ouch! Guess repeats would do even better than this! Seems like this time slot is cursed.

    ReplyDelete
  12. I can't really blame them though. Lately even the CW's best shows are not that great..

    ReplyDelete
  13. I'm not sure how much you can lower your standards since it wasn't even high to begin with yet it's constantly declining season after season.

  14. hehe...suddenly Nikita's ratings don't look so bad.

    ReplyDelete
  15. Not exactly. It's an awful project that shouldn't be ordered to series in the first place.

    ReplyDelete
  16. Haha well that could also be the problem. But the Tuesday's slot around that time has not being doing well for quite a few years now, so saying the time slot is cursed could actually be true ;)

  17. If they make the right casting and choose the right shows next seasons new shows could be great.

  18. I personally liked it but my friends thought it was about people killing themselves to express the tv show. I got the impression its gonna have a supernatural link because of the calls from his brother with the static. At the very least its not people killing themselves it about the real life version of the cult.

  19. Honestly, The CW should aim to stop premiering shows at 9pm. It's better to let a new show start at 8pm because then its lead-in is local programming, which is almost always higher-rated than original CW programming. Look how Nikita came back to life when moved from 9pm back to 8pm, for example. I'm not saying it's *always* gonna work (they specifically pushed 90210 to 9pm so Carrie Diaries could premiere at 8pm, and that still didn't save TCD), but it's the better option. With Cult premiering at 9pm, its lead-in was Hart of Dixie with a freaking 0.5 rating - great idea.
Generally speaking, yeah, the Tuesday 9pm slot is a bust for them. Melrose Place, Hellcats, Ringer, Emily Owens... and now Cult.

  20. Yes, Arrow proved that they can do better if they make the right decisions. Everything else proved how they're going to continue to do worse if they don't.

    ReplyDelete
  21. HoD is not a good lead in.

    ReplyDelete
  22. I guess next week will be the true test then wont it?

    ReplyDelete
  23. I mean no real surprise but still CW yet again making poor decisions when it comes to commissioning shows.

    ReplyDelete
  24. My point exactly how this slot is cursed ;)

    ReplyDelete
  25. Forgot to mention that a lot of guys I know consider CW a "girl" channel because of shows like 90210 and the now gone Gossip Girl. So that affects the amount of viewers too.

    ReplyDelete
  26. It is possible. If it is complicated I can see that having a down effect. Smart shows have it the roughest because not everyone wants TV that makes them think or is too confusing.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Mondays aren't much better.

Tuesday doesn't seem to be a big TV night (outside NCIS watchers) so I can see why CW shows would really suffer on that night.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Oh that's too bad. I really think the CW should have aired the pilot episode after Vampire Diaries, rather than Hart of Dixie being the lead-in. And the Matt Davis connection might have drawn in viewers of VD. I thought it was interesting and I'm going to give it a chance. But if it fails, VD better bring back Alaric. Damon needs his BFF.

  29. Some people seemed to be confused about the show, that seems to be the impression I'm getting.

    ReplyDelete
  30. Of course these ratings would be even worse, because that age bracket uses the web extensively, and will have watched the pilot when it first came out on the internet. Why should they tune in for a rewatch when an ep they had already seen aired on TV a couple of weeks later?

    ReplyDelete
  31. Does anybody think that the viewers who saw the pilot online will come back for ep 2? I just... I don't think it was "hard to understand" for a regular TV viewer, wasn't it? I kinda like it but Season 2 is now probably definitely lost :-/

  32. I get flamed a lot for saying this, but I think that's part of the reason Nikita has such low ratings: it's intelligent and the characters are adults dealing with adult issues. It's a lot easier for a TV show to succeed if it appeals to the lowest common denominator, hence the success of mindless reality shows or everyone-sleeps-with-everyone soap operas.

  33. Unless they move Supernatural there (which, it might be a bad idea to break up SPN/Arrow a.k.a. their only strong pairing), I think they should just push Hart of Dixie to the Tuesday 9pm slot next year. Its ratings are pretty steady, so I don't see it suddenly sinking if it moves to that slot - its audience is small but loyal. Premiering ANOTHER show in that slot would just be idiotic. Fool me 17 times, you know? (Plus, the point I made earlier about the 9pm slots generally being tougher on The CW than the 8pm ones.)

    ReplyDelete
  34. Yeah, especially for a show that couldn't be any more different.
I know hindsight is 20/20 and all, but it really does seem The CW would have been wiser to move BatB to Tuesdays at 9pm and put Cult on Thursday at 9pm after TVD. Since they already knew at that point that BatB can't retain TVD's audience, and if it gets renewed it'll move to a different slot, it would have been a good idea to "test" it in the Tuesday slot and see how it held up; if it tanked completely, that would have been an indication that it can't stand on its own and should be cancelled. And Cult, obviously, would have stood a better chance after TVD since they're more similar in tone than Cult and HoD (duh), plus the Matt Davis factor.
They would have had nothing to lose with this move, since it's not like BatB is a success in the post-TVD slot. It's already a given that putting it in that slot didn't work, so they might as well have tried Cult there instead.

  35. it's lasted for 6/7 years already

    ReplyDelete
  36. Revolution attracts 7-10 million a week but is that for the lowest common denominator?

    ReplyDelete
  37. Nikita hardly 'came to life' when moved from 9 to 8, it rose from 0.3's to 0.4's and an occasional 0.5

    ReplyDelete
  38. try telling that to ABC regarding to Thursdays at 8pm and Sundays at 10pm!

    ReplyDelete
  39. A 0.5 is what it was getting through much of last season, whereas in the 9pm slot there was the chance that it could drop to 0.2's permanently (or even 0.1's). A few tenths might be a small difference on another network, but on The CW it's huge. In fact, it may well make the difference between a cancellation and a renewal. Nikita at 9pm was the lowest-rated show on the network, now it's higher than 90210, Cult and (not that it matters) Emily Owens and occasionally tying The Carrie Diaries, Beauty and the Beast and Cult. So yes, by The CW's standards, the show certainly came to life.

    ReplyDelete
  40. I've never watched Revolution so I can't comment on its artistic value, but you're always going to be able to find an exception to a rule. It doesn't negate the generality. Most of the high-rated shows on TV are reality crap like American Idol, The Voice, The Bachelor or The X-Factor. Intelligent, complex shows are much better off on cable, because on networks they rarely find an audience: see the likes of Firefly, Fringe and Veronica Mars. Even Buffy lived through critical acclaim and award nominations rather than high ratings.

I think it was the decision to leak the episode onto the website A WEEK BEFORE THE ACTUAL PREMIERE.

    ReplyDelete
  42. A 1.0 in the demo is great for the CW....yikes

Not sure how long this network can last for...
