Aaaah! Still very excited! So many awesome Arthur&Merlin scenes! Gwen is clearly bad ass queen. There are aliens (or sorta look like them)! ;) Mordred's back! Not good! The vision from the future makes my heart break! Why did it all end so fast though? I could swear the episode has just begun! Can not wait for next week!
Great episode, not a lot of action (that's to be expected I guess) but that fight in the woods was spectacular. It's funny, because I've read a lot of spoiler about this episode the last couple of days, and I thought that I wouldn't be surprised about anything, but there were a few things actually. - Bad ass Gwen, I didn't expect her to sentence her maid to death, even her brother was surprised about it. - Mordred, I knew it was coming, but his introduction from the vision to the final scene, and those looks between him and Merlin, well...it was fantastic. - I really liked Merlin's comebacks every time Arthur treated him like a fool, I don't find it funny anymore, and neither does Merlin apparently (with good reason). - And poor Merlin, can't get a girl that's not evil, cursed or a betrayer. It was nice seeing him flirt a bit, but I guess it's not his destiny to be happy after all. - And who or what was that creature that healed Gwain? Was that the "key" that Morgana is looking for or is it something else? Next week's episode look great, and it looks like we'll see Aithusa again!
Gwen made the right decision. With her upbringing she cannot appear to be a weak Queen. We still don't know if she'll go through with the execution though.
And Morgana! Finally the writers of this show realized that if they want Morgana to seem powerful, then she needs to have a commanding presence. Every time before, she had someone else commanding her subjects. Now she's doing it directly.
I certainly hope that it won't turn into "oh yay we changed the future and the whole end of the legend does not happen" because that would REALLY break immersion. Writers are in quite a harsh spot now - they HAVE to make it all believable and epic, yet at the same time they can't just have Camelot survive the story. Tricky indeed.
Love that they finally decided to make Guinevere a formidable figure and not be all sunshine in rainbows. Its interesting on just how S1-Moragan-esque she was through the episode when dealing with Sefa. Its nice to see that while she can be nice and kind and all, she is also someone you would not want to mess with.
Overall certainly a strong solid opener for the season.
I loved all the Colin Morgan/Merlin scenes. Fantastic & amazing as always, especially the funny Merlin moments. All the Merlin/Arthur scenes were wonderful too! The huge shots on COlin/Merlin face are awesome as we cann see all the emotions playing in Merlin's eyes and face. Wonderful episode.
Well, I must say I was worried about the Merlin/Arthur relationship being exactly the same as before after reading a couple of the previews, but - thank God! - it isn't. There is banter there, yes, but Merlin gives as good as he gets. and Arthur takes it in good humour. There is respect there and acceptance - you can feel it. Arthur clearly cares about Merlin - he twice looks after him- once at the fire, when he gets Merlin to join the crowd again and then at Quenn Annis's palace, when he offers Merlin to open up.
I really had to laugh when Arthur remarked that he would not go back to look for Merlin - when we know that he already did that (at least) twice . once in 'A Servant of 2 Masters' and of course in the final episode of season 4 in the caves. This shows that the banter is actually that - banter - but not expression of a general condescending behaviour towards Merlin (as seen before). I loved the whole episode. Biggest surprise: what is a little 'glowy Martian' doing in Merlin?:)
Re. Gwen... I suspect that the maid will spend some time in the cells and possibly given a reprieve - doubt they'll kill her off too quick (if they do).
Re. Morgana... she's really stepped up a bit, in last season she didn't have that presence and came off very unsure of herself.
Overall, I think it's rapidly approaching the time Merlin has to step up and let Arthur know the truth - so they can work together instead of Merlin having to follow and pick up the pieces/save Arthur all the time. Half the knights know (or suspect) Merlin has magic.
In past adventures several of them have witnessed things he's done or at least seen the results with Merlin the only possible person to have done them; and they'll often defer to Merlin when Arthur's not around.
Half is probably too strong but I certainly think some of them do.
NOTE: Name-calling, personal attacks, spamming, excessive self-promotion, condescending pomposity, general assiness, racism, sexism, any-other-ism, homophobia, acrophobia, and destructive (versus constructive) criticism will get you BANNED from the party.

I agree with you on most things you've said, but how do figure out that half the knights know or even suspect Merlin having magic????
