  1. As I've said in the comments to Pt 1, I won't be able to answer very much at all about this episode. I enjoyed it a lot, though it is obviously quite sad so I would get some tissues ready before you watch. I can see certain facets of the fan base not being happy with the episode, but I think most people will enjoy it. As with a large part of Season 5 I think that there are a few niggling bits; I'm surprised that certain characters didn't do some things a bit differently for example.

Overall I can see why the J's have done what they have, considering they want to reboot with films or whatever in the future, they have definitely left the door open for the story to continue. I guess it depends on the over all reaction of the general public to what they have done already as to whether they will be successful or not.

Having now seen some of the rumours that were circulating earlier this week I have to say I'm glad that I didn't read the links a friend mailed me before watching this. Not all of them are true, but I can't verify which are or aren't for obvious reasons.

  2. I can't believe it's ending... Could you specify which facets of the fan base may not be entirely happy? Just so we prepare.

    ReplyDelete
  3. I heard that it ended in the future or something?

    ReplyDelete
  4. Just... from 1 to 10 how much it is sad? I'm so scared.... the rumors were so depressing :(

    ReplyDelete
  5. Hmmmm.... It's hard to guess when we don't have either side of the speakers yet. I'm guessing, and my GOODNESS it makes me hopeful, that these lines are as follows:

"I was born to serve you Arthur. I'm proud of that and I wouldn't change a thing." - Merlin to Arthur.
    and
"So you're not an idiot, that was another lie." - Arthur to Merlin (And this means a magic reveal, I do think!)
    and maybe -

"let's just say he deserves our gratitude" - this could be a number of things. I think the "he" is Merlin. It could be Gaius saying it to Arthur, Gwen, the knights, or any combination therein. OR (unlikely but would be sooo amazing) it could be Arthur saying it to someone once he's figured out Merlin has magic. This would depend on whether he finds out in the middle of a battle and EVERYONE sees, or if the reveal is more private and when Arthur knows everyone else still doesn't.

Sorry for all the rambling theories! I'm just so excited I can't contain myself!

And - I'm guessing you can't really answer, but when you say "sad" is it the kind of sad that will leave me at the end of the episode depressed by the way things turned out? Or will it be more... bittersweet, like there's a sad ending and it's sad that it's over, but there's hope for a better future/we know that our beloved characters will in some way be alright?

    ReplyDelete
  6. Can you answer whether or not we get a kiss?

    ReplyDelete
  7. I haven't seen it yet but I'm guessing 56.

    ReplyDelete
  8. :((( I think is gonna be 100.

    ReplyDelete
  9. How comes that you've already seen those? I'm a bit curious

    ReplyDelete
  10. Well, these arrived rather unexpectedly!! Thanks!

“Let’s just say he deserves our gratitude” about Merlin maybe hopefully, Mordred, I bet
“Three more patrols have returned from the white mountains my lady, there is no sign of him” I wonder if Mordred deserts from Morgana
“He wanted me to give you this my lady” Did Mordred leave something behind or Merlin?
“The sorcerer in the battle, you knew who he was” maybe Merlin about Merlin to Arthur
“I was born to serve you Arthur. I’m proud of that and I wouldn't change a thing' should be Merlin, could be Mordred on an off chance
“Did you really think you could outwit me” Merlin to Morgana
“So you’re not an idiot, that was another lie” Arthur to Merlin
“I don’t want you to change, I want you to always be you” must be Gwen to Arthur
“This is no mortal blade. Like yours, it was forged in a dragon’s breath” Morgana or Mordred to Arthur
Absolute, PURE guesses. It totally depends which way the story goes.
    Does Mordred change sides again?
Does Arthur find out about Merlin at the beginning?
Does Arthur die at the end?

  11. Sounds like major supermarket should get a warning to stock up on paper tissues. The demand will be horrendous!
Niggling bits. Well, we had plenty of them throughout the season. We'll moan and live through them, then rewrite the story as we would like it!

    ReplyDelete
  12. The only good thing about this show ending is that this freakin' question won't be asked any longer. Talk about obsessive...

    ReplyDelete
  13. I'm guessing the casual fans will be fine with it and the ones like us, who look forward to spoilers, discuss in forums such as this one, read and write fanfic, go to cons, and love the show, will be heart broken.

    ReplyDelete
  14. I hope my two questions wont be too spoilery but is Morgana's "I want him Dead" from 513 ?
Do we get to see a lot of Morgana in the last two episodes ? :) Thank you in advance for all Sandi !

    ReplyDelete
  15. I've decided not to watch before Christmas. I am just too terrified that the last episode will ruin the christmas story by giving us a heartbreaking ending. So I asked this question to the fans of my fanpage. And I'd like to ask you too, many of us want to know what to prepare for. A over general sad episode is not at all bad, as long as in the end of the episode we will be able to smile. A happy ending, can you give us at least that much? Did the ending of the episode and final episode leave you with a happy or a sad feeling?

    ReplyDelete
  16. Sandi, I always read your teasers. This is the first time that I write something here. I'm from Brazil, so english is not my mother language. Sorry if I write something wrong. What I think from the teasers is that Merlin will fullfill his destiny and save Arthur, but Merlin will die in Arthurs arms or something like that. I really really hoped that the writers would do a happy ending but after your hints, I see that they didn't. I love Merlin so much, and Arthur, and Gaius and everyone (except Morgana and Mordred) and will be difficult to see any of them go. I'm almost in tears right now and I know that my Christmans will be ruined like when I decided to watch on Christmans Eve that movie Marley and I and the dog died in the end. But I still have a lot of fanfictions to read and I hope to find some with happy endings.

    ReplyDelete
  17. Sandi, the Js aren't even with Shine any longer and they leave the rights to Merlin behind with Shine, so you're saying " considering they want to reboot with films or whatever in the future, they have definitely left the door open for the story to continue" doesn't work. They knew when they started season 4 that season 5 would be the last season and they've squandered so many episodes on filler. We know that Arthur will die in the final ep, and we also know he was a king for only 3 years and did nothing to earn the title of Once and Future King. He did nothing to be remembered in legends for. He did have great potential, but we never got to see it. While casual fans may be satisfied with that ending, most of the core fans who populate this site will not be. I understand that you have to say positive things in order to stay in the good graces of the BBC publicists though I think they should be made aware that this was NEVER what the fans wanted.

    ReplyDelete
  18. That's true. There will be a huge wormhole sized void after Merlin finishes.
I have a funny feeling though that this is not the only reason why some of us might not be happy with the finale - particularly if some characters act in a way different from our expectations.

    ReplyDelete
  19. Ok, what I need to know is- should I watch this before or after Christmas? This coming from a fan who engages with the Merlin community and loves these characters. Am I going to be heartbroken on Christmas?

    ReplyDelete
  20. That's not true. Another great thing about the show's ending is that it means not having to hear from nasty, hostile fandom members ever again!

    ReplyDelete
  21. “So you’re not an idiot, that was another lie” Arthur to Merlin.

    disappointment ....

    ReplyDelete
  22. “Three more patrols have returned from the white mountains my lady, there is no sign of him”
“He wanted me to give you this my lady”

I'm guessing that both of these are either Leon to Guinevere, or at least Gwaine to Guinevere. And if I'm right, the future seems very bleak for A/G... Oh man, I think I should get the tissues ready.

    ReplyDelete
  23. “The sorcerer in the battle, you knew who he was”

Guessing that this to Arthur and about Old!Merlin?

    ReplyDelete
  24. Three 'Yes'es to the second part of your comment!
I personally do not believe that we will see our main cast in anything to do with Merlin again. IMO they have definitely said their good byes to it.
But if - against all expectation - they do decide to give in and do a movie at one point in the future, it is important that the story provides an opportunity to be picked up again. The fantasy genre is great for that anyway.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Howdy Sandi! Hopefully this is a vague enough question that you might be able to answer it without having to worry about giving anything away. Katie had said in an interview that essentially every character has an ending, and the story lines are all wrapped up. In your opinion, is that for the most part true? I know it's probably sad and whatnot, but does it at least feel...complete?

    ReplyDelete
  26. Actually the Arwen's have nothing to be unhappy about so they will get over it. Now the bit that I am fascinated with is Morgana getting it in the teeth and be done and gone so I am looking forward to that.

    ReplyDelete
  27. end of merlin wahhhhhh! lol I know you are getting sick of me asking this question but are there any Gwen and Merlin scenes in this one?

    ReplyDelete
  28. Hmmm, any one who's more than just a casual fan I think could be upset :(

    ReplyDelete
  29. Exactly, to paraphrase using a line from the show after Uther died; The show is dead...long live the fanfic!! lol

    ReplyDelete
  30. Ahh, I knew they had left but wasn't sure who the rights would be left with, cheers.

Anything I write in the comments (or even in a main post) doesn't have to be positive for the BBC thou, just to clear that up. Well, if it is no one has ever told me that, lol.

    ReplyDelete
  31. I am guessing this sword is "Caliban" which is Excalibur's twin in legend.

    ReplyDelete
  32. I agree, I don't think any of them will be back on any version of this show as it stands, they are all far too talented to have to imo. Someone here mentioned that a animated version might be on the cards, I don't know how true that is, but even then I'd assume their likeness would have to be sought. Though with the action figures already out there it might mean they already had that written into contract at some point.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Very sad, I'm not one to tear up easily to shows but this had me bawling :(

    ReplyDelete
  34. I have access to the press preview site.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Yeah, I was completely gob smacked when I saw it was up today. I'd been thinking that they might have kept hold of it until Monday.

    ReplyDelete
  36. Hmmm, not really, mainly due to the get out clause that the J's have left to the ending. The Golden Age is still to come...... :s

    ReplyDelete
  37. I think most hardcore fans will be upset for a while :(

    ReplyDelete
  38. Ahh, one I can answer, but you might not like it. I'm afraid they don't :(

    ReplyDelete
  39. Can you tell us if Merlin sees his true destiny unfold in this last episode, please. As the title character who opened the show, is he the one who will "close" it? Thanks for your answer, if you can. Thank you.

    ReplyDelete
  40. Hmm, a hard one. If you don't want to be sad it might be best to wait, but for me the performances where superb and therefore even thou it made me feel sad I was glad I watched it.

    ReplyDelete
  41. ....... *brb killing myself*

    ReplyDelete
  42. Oh ok :)
    Thanks for your answer :)

    ReplyDelete
  43. nooooooo, please nooooooo! *sobbing*

    ReplyDelete
  44. just... do we get AT LEAST a proper goodbye or not?

    ReplyDelete
  45. Can you tell me if there will be a magic reveal between arthur and merlin?

    ReplyDelete
  46. I hope this isn't too detailed of a question to answer: Is it going to be all doom and gloom or is there a shred of happiness somewhere for somebody at any point in that episode?

    ReplyDelete
  47. Does it involve Gwen and someone else not Merlin or Arthur? Perhaps someone a little smaller...?

    ReplyDelete
  48. Ok, I can live with the fact that Arthur probably dies but I am praying that the rumour about merlin getting trapped in his old man form for the entire episode isn't true. That would be beyond cruel - I want to see Colin Morgan as himself doing these emotional scenes...

    ReplyDelete
  49. I always maintain this view about most things and for this show as well and for the fans who love it and would want to watch it on Christmas Eve- have ZERO expectations and we will NEVER be disappointed. <3

    ReplyDelete
  50. Maybe it's the intention but are some of these dialogue teasers like MAJOR (possible) death spoilers?

    ReplyDelete
  51. Yes I am sure it would be sad to see Gwen widowed at such a young age after being married for slightly over 3 years..Most Merlin fans I hear are females of varied ages and I don't think we would want to rejoice and jump about if that happened to anyone of us in real life.It would be devastating and I don't think we will want to wish that upon anyone else either!

    ReplyDelete
  52. Hi, you're English is very good! Awww, I know where you are coming from. Some people have been saying that they will wait until after Xmas to watch it, and I do think that for some it may be a good idea unfortunately. I was very sad after watching it, but a kinda happy sad if that makes sense? I'm dying to watch 12 & 13 again back to back, even though it will be sad there is still lots to love for me personally.

    ReplyDelete
  53. What if someone says those lines to Morgana instead of Gwen about Modred.Maybe that something being returned is to Morgana after Modred is killed.Could it be that sword Morgana gives Modred in ep 5.12? Just some thoughts.

    ReplyDelete
  54. I want to ask : You have access to press preview site, which only contains short teasers and hints and not the whole episode ,right??? Because it will give me a little bit hope right now as these sound so depressing... :(

    ReplyDelete
  55. Hmmm, I think the only way I can answer this is to say that Arthur (Bradley James) is the only One and Future King.

    ReplyDelete
  56. Hmmm, I can't recall off hand any light hearted moments, but there is one point where i punched my fist in the air pretty early on it.

    ReplyDelete
  57. Hmm, I don't think so. Maybe once the names have been filled in later in the week one might be seen as if it's eluding to a death, but even then I'm not sure. It's hard to gauge what interpretation people will have from the teasers though, that's something I have noticed in the past.

    ReplyDelete
  58. I am elated with this line which I have been dying to read:"The Golden Age is still to come....

    ReplyDelete
  59. All cast said they were happy with the end. How is it possible then :(

    ReplyDelete
  60. Does that mean Morgana dies? Without redemption? :( This is just not fair.

    ReplyDelete
  61. Not all Eoin said it was disappointing and angel said its very sad, the others are just saying what the producers have told them to, they have all used the word satisfied

    ReplyDelete
  62. hi Sandi, since the episode 12 tent scene is not the final goodbye, will we have a proper goodbye between our couple in the final episode?

    ReplyDelete
  63. Hmmm, interesting. Oddly enough, this gives me some hope. Thanks! Do you think we'll be sad!upset or furious!upset? Maybe a bit of both...

    ReplyDelete
  64. It has episodes up for all the BBC channels on it. So, yes, I have seen the full episodes. I think there has been a lot of doom and gloom about the direction the J's were taking the end of the series unfortunately. It is a tragic and sad finale, but for me there was a kind of bitter sweet ending to it. I enjoyed it over all, and want to watch the two episodes back to back as soon as I can. But I think sections of the fan base will be upset that the bits they are interested in won't be wrapped up the way they would like.

    ReplyDelete
  65. I wouldn't get hopes too high about the golden age I'm afraid :( I think it will depend on what bits of the legend/show you are interested in seeing play out. Personally, most of the things I like were included and wrapped up, so I am happy!sad with a tinge of disappointment if that makes any kind of sense. I can see some fans absolutely hating it though if I'm honest, especially on a first viewing. I hope that, in time, some will enjoy it for what it is.

    ReplyDelete
  66. i didnt hear what Eoin said. but i can see you are right and Eoin is the one who speaks truly.

    ReplyDelete
  67. Yep, he closes the show. I can't say anymore than that thou, sorry.

    ReplyDelete
  68. The brainless fans will still be out there in full force though, still wanting their kiss. They'll be still asking when this forum is nothing but spam and tumbleweeds. "Wah! Wah! But all I've ever cared about was a kiss! *whine*"

    ReplyDelete
  69. The Arwen faction have always seemed more like Gwen fans than Arthur/Gwen fans. Mary Sue will probably be one of the few left standing, so they'll be fine.

    ReplyDelete
  70. Sure, as long as we can have no more brainless baby-women begging for a kiss.

    ReplyDelete
  71. Thanks for answering. Don't be sorry. You're very sweet to do that.

    ReplyDelete
  72. I kinda have the feeling that at this point with golden age they mean the time when Arthur will come back again... but this is just a huge 'f*** off' to the whole show!

    ReplyDelete
  73. I do think Guinevere is in fact going to be widowed. Also, I doubt they'd kill Merlin; in many legends there's this sense of immortality when it comes to his character. I think Gaius will also remaine alive. It's Arthur, Morgana, Mordred, Gwaine, Percival, and Leon who I worry about.

    ReplyDelete
  74. Hi Jeanette I think the tent scene was the last Arwen scene

    ReplyDelete
  75. I'm glad the things you wanted to see were included. I'm not really bothered about seeing certain things in the legend, or seeing this Golden Age business. I've always liked the character driven stuff. So I'm excited for the reveal, and specifically how that is handled. I've read a lot of the spoilers but I'm still optimistic that SOME things are handled well. I certainly don't expect everything to pan out. I suspect I'll be in the happy!sad boat with you, which really, is probably how I have always WANTED it to end. Can't all be butterflies and daisies. Thanks again! I have watched your Merlin posts like a hawk this series, even though this is my first time commenting. It always gets me through the week!

    ReplyDelete
  76. It's an awful ending to the loyal fans of the show to believed in merlins destiny

    ReplyDelete
  77. Would it be possible so say how much screen time there is of old merlin in this ep? thanks!

    ReplyDelete
  78. Ok thank you! And now I have to prepare myself for anything possible :( At least it's bittersweet ;)

    ReplyDelete
  79. Have to agree that as a core fan, I am pissed as hell at what is sounding more and more like a f*uck to the fans. I feel misled. Based upon the first season,it appeared that the show would be story of how Merlin and Arthur became legends. The Js had five years to do this. Five friggin years, and they squandered it. Instead of ending it on a high, and leaving the fans with a glimpse of the future legends, we instead get a fast ward to Camlann, Arthur’s death and who knows what happening to Merlin. Never again will I buy anything that the Js are selling. I will avoid any show that the Js are involved in like the plague.

    ReplyDelete
  80. i wont say what because i know u cant give anything away but it sounds like most of my worst nightmares for this episodes are gonna happen :(
but still i will be watching it and i think i will love the episode but parts will dissapoint me but still i dont know because u can only say what u think after u see it so im just gonna have to wait and hope im wrong about a few things.
    and
i dont know if u feel the same but if they did a reboot movie do u think it could only really work well if they use the original cast since we have watched them for the past 5 season's.

    ReplyDelete
  81. Translation, Arthur dies with no heir. End to the
Pendgraon line. Golden age never created. Never thought I would say this, but I wish that I had never
started watching this show. IMO, the fans deserve a hell of a lot more than the
“screw you” it appears we got from the Js.

    ReplyDelete
  82. Honestly, I don't mind if Arthur dies. There's this sadness attached that the idea of a 'Golden Age' was almost a lie, but the legends always end with Arthur's death. What I really hope for is for Freya to come back one last time to take Arthur to Avalon. There he can fulfill this idea of the 'The Once and Future King' and the Golden Age may not be completely lost on us.

    ReplyDelete
  83. I suspect all those who expected a kiss will be hugely disappointed. To me personally if Arthur & Merlin have some decent screen time in this episode and Arthur finally learns the truth about Merlin, which seems to be the case, I will be happy even if I cry ( and I'm sure I will, my tissues are my best friends, my husband always bring some in advance :) ) I watched this show for the friendship, every other storyline was a bonus and a lot of them left me disappointed, this season most of all as expectations were set very high indeed.

    ReplyDelete
  84. Pity that being a good and supportive character to others seems to be perceived as something to be laughed at or criticized.I don't belong to the youth category of the Merlin fans but I do love the show in its entirety.I support all the characters even Morgana when she was all princessy and a do-gooder herself. What turned me away from Morgana was her growing desire to rid herself of her brother in the most vengeful manner and using and manipulating people for her own ends.If we love and admire those aspects in a being, then that will only leave us completely jaded and disappointed in the long-run.Patience was never one of Morgana's virtues.I believe life is about seeking redemption and is possible even for the nastiest of people. That was what I was hoping for Morgana-redemption!I am not sure if they will write that in in the finale but I hope we get to see some glimpses of Morgana's remorse at hurting others.I am hoping 'Mary Sue' isn't the only one standing. For Gwen's sake I hope she dies alongside Arthur if he were to die in the battlefield!

    ReplyDelete
  85. Well, if someone comes up with a very good script, there is always a chance that the guys will come back to do it. They all said it would be hard to resist if the writing is good. They did enjoy working on it after all, at least for the first 4 years. I understand Bradley frustration this year, his character was butchered beyond recognition apart from these last two episodes it seems as they are his favourites.

    ReplyDelete
  86. Yep, count me in too. As far as Arthur & Merlin (in his true form) have a good talk I'll be happy.

    ReplyDelete
  87. Well, I have to have a go at this. Sandi, could you let me know how did I go, please :)
    “Bandages, I need bandages!” Gaius

“Let’s just say he deserves our gratitude” Gaius

“Three more patrols have returned from the white mountains my lady, there is no sign of him”
    Leon to Gwen
“He wanted me to give you this my lady” Leon to Gwen

“The sorcerer in the battle, you knew who he was” Arthur to Merlin

“I was born to serve you Arthur. I’m proud of that and I wouldn't change a thing” Merlin to Arthur

“Did you really think you could outwit me” Merlin to Morgana

“So you’re not an idiot, that was another lie” Arthur to Merlin

“I don’t want you to change, I want you to always be you” Gaius to Merlin

“This is no mortal blade. Like yours, it was forged in a dragon’s breath” Merlin to Arthur

  88. I wrote this in another article's comments and then chickened out of going back to see if I got yelled at, but I just keep being really puzzled about people expecting some sort of a good ending. Have people not read/watched at least one of the many versions of the legend? It never ends well and with all of this being a new retelling of the story, I never thought it would end well. I am not sure I am completely happy about the way it took towards the ending - I would have wanted to see more time of Arthur and Merlin working together and aware of magic before reaching the pretty inevitable ending, although I will admit that they will not be the first ones to make a version where the knowledge of magic is quite vague in Arthur's eyes, and they did do some completely different things from any other language (Gwen and Arthur's story has a completely different tone here than anywhere else), I do believe that even with a sad ending (that includes a lot of death, yes) it can still be emotional and touching and put the entire story into perspective, that even if while we're inside it we don't see why it is the legend that it is, once all the loose ends are tied and everything is said and done, then it all makes sense and gives us an idea on why this story was worthy of becoming the legend that it is. I feel like people automatically see death = bad, failure, doom and gloom, but I think with many stories from this period of time and about this period of time (and in general as well) death is a part of life and sometimes serves a purpose and puts the future that follows in motion. I am sure it will be sad to say goodbye and sad to see what happens to some/many of the characters, but for me at least as someone who have read and watched many Arthurian retelling over the years, I always watched this series with an anticipation for it becoming darker and heading towards a very specific ending. I never assumed it would be an happy one. In fact, any ending that does not include everyone basically dying will be a surprise and a bold last turn in the retelling of the legend. My only request is some good and meaningful reveal scenes. That's the one thing I want to see and the one thing the J's owe the fans. I can't hold a doom-and-gloom ending against them though, they weren't the ones to invent the legend.

  89. well i'm from the US , but I been watching on a site i founf wich i'll give for any others from the US want to watch as i couldnt wait til jan4th to watch, but I they are going to leave it open for a movie or spin off of some sort, then i dont see them killing either one, that would be dumb, I could be wrong, but your not going to kill 2 major charecters, if you plan on a movie & I would hope that after all this they didnt kill either one!

    ReplyDelete
  90. by the way here is that web site....

    http://www.couchtuner.eu/merlin/

    ReplyDelete
  91. I don't understand, reading your comments saying there isn't much on 'The Golden Age', has really made me flat about even watching the finale. How many times have we heard this season that Merlin is the only one that can bring about a new age, and that "One day he will learn, one day we will be accepted". It's just really dumb that they're 'leaving that open'. I wanted to see it all in this series I have watched for years. Really annoyed right now.

  92. Hiya, they are not planning a movie, the producers have left shine and the cast don't want to continue,
My guess is if they wanted to continue if they got a new cast or did an animation series they would have to reboot from the start or do a reincarnation story where merlin reawakens Arthur for a modern time story

    ReplyDelete
  93. Well Arthur's dead and merlin will call him when Britain needs him most, do we really need Arthur he was pretty useless even then can't imagine there will be a time he's called back to be honest

    ReplyDelete
  94. I agree, I loved the show but they could have ended it on a high with the death and destruction far off in the future

    ReplyDelete
  95. Yep he does, did you see the others in that video giving angel the shocked looks when she said it was sad, and Bradley's "you mean because t's ending right?" They have been told they can only say they are happy with it and satisfied, angel didn't get that memo it seems :)

    ReplyDelete
  96. And me! This is my worst case scenario.

    ReplyDelete
  97. Well, this is not quite unexpected. Am I allowed to do one of those star things like in the hangman game? (Trying to comment respectfully to the 2 Js here)

    ReplyDelete
  98. You have been a busy bee answering all those comments since last night!
Judging from all I have read now, I have the clear impression that I will be upset at the ending, for whatever reason. It is a shame that they finish a show that started out so lightheartedly ends like this. Nothing against darker and more mature - I liked that. But maybe they have taken the darkness a shade too 'dark' with that.
All there is left to do now, is open a lovely bottle on Christmas Eve, a huge box of tissues and get through with it. There is now way I cannot watch it.
You know I actually wonder if the reason for moving the show forward to the 24th, was to avoid a huge massive negative fan reaction the next day. Peopple will be busy on Christmnas Day and many who might have commented in full emotion that day, will not because there is no time.

Tried to post earlier. Apologies if this is a duplicate.
Wow! This is very disappointing. I tried to stay away from any spoilers for the last two episodes. unfortunately, I read the dialogue teasers and comments for part 1. I (foolishly) became elated that the show would end on a high note - a sad one nonetheless due to very nature of it coming to and end period. But after reading this thread the hope I felt is gone. I fear that like many fans, who have been dedicated followers and have invested time and emotion to the story and it's characters, I will be left extremely disappointed and personally I will feel disrespected by the show's creators/producers/writers. The sense of forebording has left a sour taste in my mouth. I have zero enthusiasm left to watch the last episodes of one of my most loved shows. Such a shame :-(

Agree! If this is how they have chosen to end the show, it is no way to thank the fans who have stuck by it all these years. Feels like a cop out, a mad dash to tie up loose ends. And honestly the way they treated Arwen this series has been appalling. They had many moments don't get me wrong - but to go an ENTIRE series with no kiss?! Whose bright idea was that? It left many fans scratching their heads and it just drew more attention to the couple, which I'm a big fan of btw - but not all fans share my adoration, I understand. I think if we got a couple of Arwen kisses we wouldn't have been so focused on them. But after episode after episode of nada, zip, zilch the focus for me was more on them and why they were not able to show a kiss and the actual plot came second. And Sandi, I think your answer may have given away too much. I really hope my assumptions are wrong. But I've lost hope at this point.

    ReplyDelete
  103. OH OK... but did you see the episode to be able to say that? I am asking simply because in a previous comment Sandi said that that scene was not the last goodbye, so I assumed there was something else later on.

    ReplyDelete
  104. agreed... oh my how I agree with you... I am glad I am not the only one to suffer such insults... what an absolutely rude and non-tolerant person is Vibrantankles, no other way to describe that attitude...

    ReplyDelete
  105. Sandy apologised for getting people's hopes up about a spoiler because she thought it was going to go a different way, I'm pretty sure the tent scene is Arthur and gwens goodbye scene

    ReplyDelete
  106. Oh I see I must have missed that comment :) thanks a lot for clarifying :) well I guess that there is no kiss this season then... :(

    ReplyDelete
  107. It's a sad end for everyone isn't it :-(

    ReplyDelete
  108. yes, I think so... I mean there are some who might like it, or love it, but I for one think I will not like it at all... actually I think I'll postpone seeing them till after Xmas...

    ReplyDelete
  109. The point is that Arthur was never allowed to achieve anything in this telling and neither has Merlin. Arthur hung on to the throne for 3 years and did nothing we know of- Uther achieved infinitely more. He wasnt allowed to be a great king of legend before they killed him. And Merlin was never allowed to stand at his side an an equal. They did a 'before they were famous' then they went to the end with no middle - none of the greatness they kept on promising. If that satisfies you, I really envy you. Wish I could feel the same

    ReplyDelete
  110. I agree neither merlin or Arthur have done anything to merit legendary status, merlin must spend the rest of his very long life telling fairytales about Arthur for him to become the Arthur we believe him to be

    ReplyDelete
  111. I hope Merlin will live in his young form and that Merlin and Arthur will have a meaningful and long talk about Merlin's magic and loyalty furing all these years. It's time Merlin reveals himself.

    ReplyDelete
  112. But how can that be satisfactory? The golden age of Camelot when it doesn't even exists any more, why would we need Arthur today? Well ok today he might be useful if merlin needs him to save the world :) but I'm not sure how he's going to stop the end of the world with his sword :)

    ReplyDelete
  113. I think we will get that at least :-)

    ReplyDelete
  114. yeah i saw that video. but there are rumors like arthur is dead, merlin is alone, everyone loses one of his closest etc. that is so much. maybe arthur can be dead we are a little bit ready for that bec. mith is saying that, or maybe my thougth is when Arthur is dying, Merlin gives his life to save Arthur (something like that) and then magic is allowed just bec of what merlin did, i can bear these scenarios. but not both Arthur is dead Merlin is alone, the others are dead, that is so much, you know what i am saying? ( my grammar can be bad sorry for that )

    ReplyDelete
  115. I know what you are saying but unfortunately it is the worst scenario Arthur dead and merlin alone

    ReplyDelete
  116. I'm a bit wary of my hopes up, considering how the rest of the episode seems to be going, but the more spoilers I read the more I believe you may be right. Crossing my fingers for some proper Merlin/Arthur scenes where he gets to finally be himself!

    ReplyDelete
  117. i will be angry with them if i dont find the ending is satisfying. Bec. i find out they are lying.

    ReplyDelete
  118. A nice bottle of wine might be very good idea! Hmm, not sure if that's the reason behind moving it if I'm honest. The BBC gathers data straight after the airing from the same households who have the box thingy attached to their TV which gives the viewing figures afaik. They ask for satisfaction score, asks what was liked/disliked in particular, if anything was offensive, etc.

In order for them to take any real notice of what the more hardcore fans think it would take 100,000's of letters being sent in to them from each fan who is a customer of the BBC (i.e. in the UK) to offset the data they already gather. As I said in another post on the site, shows like this (Sat night prime time slot) are made for the majority who tune in, especially when it comes to the BBC who have a government charter to strictly follow, rather than for us online.

Crappy, but that's the way of the world in general at times :( lol

    ReplyDelete
  119. You're very welcome, and thanks for the kind words :)

    ReplyDelete
  120. I think it could go either way regarding a reboot if I'm honest, I kind of get a feeling from the cast that they are done with it, and I think that's probably the best thing for them and their careers. Maybe without the J's in charge it could make a come back, I think that there would have to be some recasting going on though.

    ReplyDelete
  121. Haha, am I right in thinking there would be a large amount of words that would have 4 stars in them? :p

    ReplyDelete
  122. Does the box from the Kindness of Strangers make a reappearnce? I don't feel it reached it's full potential or as if they had something more planned for it. Also, does Kilgarrah make a reappearance?

    ReplyDelete
  123. Spot on! and there will be one with 6 letters followed by another one with 8 letters. Strangely enough, all words starting with the same letter as King Arthur's real life name!

    ReplyDelete
  124. Sorry Janette I was wrong about that Sandy says there is another brief Arwen scene after this one
    Hope I didn't upset you

  125. “Bandages, I need bandages!” Gaius

“Let’s just say he deserves our gratitude” Gwaine or Arthur on Merlin

“Three more patrols have returned from the white mountains my lady, there is no sign of him” Mordred or Saxon On Merlin ( Or Mordred )

“He wanted me to give you this my lady” Saxon On Mordred

“The sorcerer in the battle, you knew who he was” Saxon Or Arthur On Merlin To ???

“I was born to serve you ,Arthur. I’m proud of that and I wouldn't change a thing” Merlin to Arthur

“Did you really think you could outwit me” Arthur or Morgana on Mordred or Merlin

“So you’re not an idiot, that was another lie” Arthur or knight on Merlin

“I don’t want you to change, I want you to always be you” Merlin or Arthur on Merli or Arthur :)

“This is no mortal blade. Like yours, it was forged in a dragon’s breath” Mordred to Arthur

    ReplyDelete
  126. oh no dear no upsetting at all... if anything, it would be the producers to do that and not you :)

will have to wait and see I guess :) thanks for the info cause it is becoming a little more difficult now to keep track of snippets of info...

    ReplyDelete
  127. I don't know if it can satisfy me or not until I see the ending. All I am saying is that even in death you can achieve a legendary status, not just by what you do while you live, and that I never expected this to end well in terms of people coming out of this alive.

    ReplyDelete
  128. will arthur die or not? cant wait!

  130. This is so frustrating. I am guessing Arthur dies and if so, that completely negates everything we have been watching. No golden age, no true Merlin reveal, no Albion, no peace. I am really hoping I am wrong and that it ends happy, but as Sandi has claimed, it will be sad. I really hate writers that don't deliver on "promises" of plot points. It can and often does kill a story, even if the bits leading up to it were good. Fulfilling promises in a story is one of the basic fundamental skills you would learn about crafting plot.

    ReplyDelete
  131. perfectly agreed but at this point have lost all hope of a kiss :(

    ReplyDelete
  132. Sandi we will arwen scenes in the last episode? thanks!

    ReplyDelete
  133. The last one, I would think it would be Arthur telling Mordred. The other way around makes no sense as Mordred knows nothing about Excalibur.

    ReplyDelete
  134. Yes, I have been wondering about that, too. Finna said that the box would provide help in the dark days to come. Reading a prophecy about Arthur's death can hardly be what she meant??

    ReplyDelete
  135. This is another of my problems with 5.10, I don't understand why having a small scroll repeating the prophecy we've all known for ages was worth two people's lives (Alator and Finna) in order to get it to Merlin :(

    ReplyDelete
  136. Sandi it seems there are a lot of lines concerning Gwen, and in another review it is stated that she has a pivotal role in the coming episode...yet in then another review it says that the episode revolves around Arthur/Merlin and they do not even mention Gwen according to you, is she important in this episode? Thanks as always

    ReplyDelete
  137. “He wanted me to give you this my lady” Merlin to Gwen

“The sorcerer in the battle, you knew who he was” Arthur to Gaius

“I was born to serve you Arthur. I’m proud of that and I wouldn't change a thing” Merlin to Arthur

“Did you really think you could outwit me” Morgana to ? and ?

“So you’re not an idiot, that was another lie” Arthur to Merlin

“I don’t want you to change, I want you to always be you” Arthur to Morgana????

“This is no mortal blade. Like yours, it was forged in a dragon’s breath” Merlin to Morgana

  138. “Bandages, I need bandages!” Gwen to ? GWEN TO GAIUS

“Let’s just say he deserves our gratitude” Gaius to Gwen (as seen in the Sneak Peek)

“Three more patrols have returned from the white mountains my lady, there is no sign of him” ? to Gwen LEON TO GWEN

“He wanted me to give you this my lady” ? to Gwen LEON TO GWEN

“The sorcerer in the battle, you knew who he was” ? to Gaius GWEN TO GAIUS

“I was born to serve you Arthur. I’m proud of that and I wouldn't change a thing” ? to Arthur MERLIN TO ARTHUR

“Did you really think you could outwit me” Morgana to ? and ? MORGANA TO MERLIN AND ARTHUR

“So you’re not an idiot, that was another lie” ? to Merlin ARTHUR TO MERLIN

“I don’t want you to change, I want you to always be you” Arthur to ? ARTHUR TO MERLIN OR ARTHUR TO GWEN BASICALLY SAYING NOT MATTER WHAT HAPPENS TO HIM HE NEVER WANTS HER TO CHANGE.

  139. Emrys uses his most powerful magic yet, and it's very cool
i saw this and i and was wondering if it was what he did in the sneak peek or something else

    ReplyDelete
  140. I don't think the Old!Merlin rumor is true...hopefully.

    ReplyDelete
  141. Let's play the guessing game!

“Bandages, I need bandages!” Gwen to Gaius
“Three more patrols have returned from the white mountains my lady, there is no sign of him” Leon to Gwen
“He wanted me to give you this my lady” Leon to Gwen
“The sorcerer in the battle, you knew who he was” Arthur (Gwen?) to Gaius
“I was born to serve you Arthur. I’m proud of that and I wouldn't change a thing” Merlin to Arthur (IF MERLIN ISN'T SAYING THIS TO ARTHUR I HAVE LOST ALL HOPE IN HUMANITY)
“Did you really think you could outwit me” Morgana to Arthur and Merlin
“So you’re not an idiot, that was another lie” Arthur to Merlin
“I don’t want you to change, I want you to always be you” Arthur to Merlin OR Gwen
“This is no mortal blade. Like yours, it was forged in a dragon’s breath” Arthur to Morgana

    ReplyDelete
  142. I too find it pathetic the constant deriding of the Queen's character due to petulant and often times infantile members of the fandom who have issues with the character for reasons that they cannot self insert visually. One of the major joys of this show being over, is the fact that they are now toast with their BS behaviour and will have to go on and fixate somewhere else. Bring it!

    ReplyDelete
  143. “Bandages, I need bandages!” Gwen to ?

“Let’s just say he deserves our gratitude” Gaius to Gwen KNOWN

“Three more patrols have returned from the white mountains my lady, there is no sign of him” Knight to Gwen Or Saxon ( Possibly Mordred ?) To Morgana

“He wanted me to give you this my lady” Knight To Gwen Or Saxon To Morgana

“The sorcerer in the battle, you knew who he was” ? Arthur Or Gwen to Gaius On Merlin

“I was born to serve you Arthur. I’m proud of that and I wouldn't change a thing” Merlin to Arthur

“Did you really think you could outwit me” Mordred or Morgana to Merlin Or Arthur

“So you’re not an idiot, that was another lie” Arthur to Merlin

“I don’t want you to change, I want you to always be you” Arthur to Gwen Or Gwen To Arthur

“This is no mortal blade. Like yours, it was forged in a dragon’s breath” Mordred To Arthur

    ReplyDelete
  144. “Bandages, I need bandages!” Gaius To Gwen

    ReplyDelete
  145. Yep, that was my question about 5.10 as well. I could see no purpose in that episode whatsoever and thought 2 lives were wasted for absolutely nothing

    ReplyDelete
  146. The self insertion is really all there is to it when it comes to these people. They can't visually self insert into Gwen so they turn into rabid haters. Also knowing what a Mary Sue actually is might help these people to not look so stupid. Tell me which of the Merlin writers is self-inserting themselves into Gwen's character for her to be a Mary Sue? Is it Howard Overman or perhaps Julian Jones. Hahahahaha.

    ReplyDelete
  147. There are rumors going around that merlin is supposed to die! :( I hope that isn't true I am going to be very angry if it does. I do know that Kilgarra is dying because the hint of it in the story of when Merlin summoned him.

    ReplyDelete
  148. Sandi, will the writers push the RESET button with this final episode? For example, will Merlin save the day, get rid of the "bad guys", die, have his ghost push the big red reset button that conveniently wipes his existence from the minds of everyone who has ever heard of him, resurrect, return to Camelot as Merlin, new assistant to Gaius, graduate to full Court Physician and finally become Arthur's trusted adviser? As a casual Merlin fan, I really don't care who dies as long as it isn't Queen Mary Sue. She's my girl. She has to live, with or without Arthur's spawn. My pleasure would only be increased if Gwen and Arthur toss their crowns, run off to be farmers and leave Merlin to rule Camelot. For certain that would send me rushing out to buy all five seasons of this show.

    ReplyDelete
  149. Nope, there is no reset button at the end of the episode. The story isn't completely finished off at the end, IMO I think they have done the 'beginning' and the 'middle' of the story in this series, and are hoping/expecting to do the 'end' in the films at some point in the future. That's the reason I think casual viewers will be more happy with how the finale ends than the hardcore ones. But I hope that anyone who hates it on their first viewing will be able to go back to it once any disappointment is over and enjoy this episode for what it is.

I really did like it, and I'm not just saying that because I have to appease the BBC, because I have no 'contract' or similar which says I have to. If I hated it, I would have said that from the start, as I have done with other elements of the show this year. I did think that Merlin could have done one thing that would have avoided the ending this episode has, but it would have been at the cost of something else happening that I feel needed to happen. Sorry to be vague, I will be able to say more once it has aired.

    ReplyDelete
  150. You have just made my day. Thanks. :D

    ReplyDelete
  154. We're basically doomed if Arthur comes back, aren't we? Both he and Merlin have the problem-solving skills of a cat that's got it's claws tangled in a jumper.
