Welcome to a new weekly feature of Supernatural, the Quotes Round-Up. I have two goals for this segment. 1. To share all the great quotes in the new SPN episodes. I find quotes get people talking, especially since the episodes will be fresh in our minds. Since people will not agree with my choices that makes for good discussion. The second reason is completely self-serving. We are having a huge favorite quote contest during the summer hellatus next year and I needed to find a way to get the nominations done before summer ended. This will allow me to already have season 8 done before hellatus starts.
I'm sure I'll be tweaking the format as the season progresses and I welcome your ideas in that. Originally I started with just a list like I did over the summer but now I think I'm going to divide them up into funny, mytharc, and emotional quotes because I have a tendency to overlook all but the funny. Of course many quotes can belong to several categories. Please share your thoughts and any quotes you think I've missed.
Funny/Snarky quotes:

7. Dean: "I thought you two had a thing." Channing: "Yeah when he was going to Princeton." Dean: "Wow, just like that."
6. Dean: "Yeah time flies when you're running for your life."
5. Crowley: "Hello boys. Dean, you're looking…well let's just say Purgatory didn't do you any favors. Where's your angel?" Dean: "Ask your mother." Crowley: "There's that grade school zip. Missed it. I really did. Moose, still with the pork chops. Admire that."
4. Dean: "That is spectacular work. Any chance I can get that in English?"
3. Sam: "What the hell is that?" Dean: "It's Purgatory."
2. Sam: "Dude, it's a burger." Dean: "It's a treasure."
1. Kevin: "There's a demon in you and you're going to your safety school." Channing: "What?"
Mytharc/Story-moving quotes:

6. Dean: "He was our responsibility and you couldn't answer the damn phone."
5. Dean: "It was bloody, messy, 31 flavors of bottom-dwelling nasties. Hell most days felt like 360 degree combat. But there was something about being there. It felt pure."
4. Sam: "God taught you how to trap demons." Kevin: "Technically yeah."
3. Benny: "He was my friend. Now you are. First rule of Purgatory kid - You can't trust nobody." Dean: "You just asked me to trust you." Benny: "See you're getting it now."
2. Dean: "Were you able to read anything else off the tablet before you stashed it?" Kevin: "Only the stuff about closing the gates of hell. Forever." Dean: "Come again?" Kevin: "Banish all demons off the face of the earth. Lock them away forever. That could be important right?' Dean: "closing the gates of hell forever? Yeah, yeah…that could be important."
1. Kevin: "What the hell happened to you guys?" Dean: "The Cliff Notes? I went to Purgatory. Sam hit a dog."
Emotional quotes:

5. Dean: "There was a girl." Sam: "Yeah, there was. And then there wasn't. Anymore questions?"
4. Sam: "Nothing says family quite like the whole family being dead."
3. Dean: "Alright, well let's do this." Sam: "I don't know whether to give you a hug or take a shower."
2. Sam: "Listen I know this is going to sound crazy to you. I don't even necessarily need you to understand but you need to know. I didn't just drop out Dean. I found something. Something I've never had all my life."
1. Dean: "After you looked for me…" (Sam says nothing.) Dean: "Did you look for me Sam?" (Sam looks away.) Dean: "Good. That's good. No, we…we always told each other not to look for each other. That's smart. Good for you. Of course we always ignored that because of our deep abiding love for each other but not this time right Sammy?"

My favorite quote was when Kevin was talking about safety schools and Channing was all "What?" She didn't seem fazed by the demon but safety school? No way.
ReplyDeleteThe hardest quote to swallow was when Dean asked Sam if he looked for him but Sam just looked away.
Have to say that I like the mythology of this new season so far. Lots of good quotes but more importantly a straightforward, personal quest for the Winchesters. That is all win.
The rules are simple Sam, you don't take a joint from a guy named Dan and there's no dogs in the car
ReplyDeleteI absolutely love this idea! And I just about died when Kevin said, "There's a demon in you and you're going to your safety school." Channing's reaction was PRICELESS.
ReplyDeleteSam: "Nothing says family quite like the whole family being dead." -This one about killed me, poor Sam.
ReplyDeleteDean: "Alright, well let's do this." Sam: "I don't know whether to give you a hug or take a shower." -this one just makes me laugh
Did not pick any from the funny, there was only one I chuckled at and it was: Dean: "That is spectacular work. Any chance I can get that in English?"
ReplyDeleteWent with the Did you look for me, Sam and the Cliff notes. I was just so happy to see SPN back that wanted to put the whole ep in here. lol I am LOVING the dirty, bloody, tough, sexy hunter.
Crowley: Where's your angel?
ReplyDeleteDean: Ask your mother.
Because Dean using that comeback with reference to Cas is just too amusing to me.
Dean: First we find the angel
Benny: Three's a crowd, chief.
Dean: Well hey, either you're in, or you're out.
Because reasons. Because Dean searching Purgatory for Cas, and refusing to leave until he's found him, gives me feelings.
Great idea!
ReplyDeletefavorites:
Dean: First we find the angel.
Benny: Mm, three's a crowd, chief.
Dean: Well, hey. Either you're in or you're out.
(This one because it shows how Cas is important to Dean, and the loyalty Dean has for those he consider as his family.)
Sam: "So, yeah, I fixed up the Impala, and I just...drove."
Dean: "After you looked for me. Did you look for me, Sam?"
Dean: "...Good. That's good. Now, we -- we...always told each other not to look for each other. That's smart. Good for you. Of course, we always ignored that because of our deep, abiding love for each another, but not this time, right, Sammy?"
(This one just stabbed me right in the heart; all the angst, the guilt, the deception, the anger...And the "Sammy" at the end ... guh!)
The episode was full of great quotes, here are some others I liked:
Sam: can I just say hello?
Dean: "He was our responsibility. And you couldn't answer the damn phone!"
Demon: you should know Dean Winchester is back.
Dean:I knew I smelled dog.
Sam: And I knew you'd throw a bitch fit.
Dean: Where's the angel?
Vampire: You're him. The human.
Dean: Spanky the demon. Yeah, I heard about you. The one who uses too much teeth, right?
Dean: "Were you able to read anything else off the tablet before you stashed it?"
Kevin: "Only the stuff about closing the gates of hell... Forever."
Dean: Cliff Notes? I went to Purgatory. Sam hit a dog.
Kevin: "There's a demon in you and you're going to your safety school." Channing: "What?"
There were several I liked but I guess I'll go with these 2:
ReplyDeleteDean: "After you looked for me…" (Sam says nothing.) Dean: "Did you look for me Sam?" (Sam looks away.) Dean: "Good. That's good. No, we…we always told each other not to look for each other. That's smart. Good for you. Of course we always ignored that because of our deep abiding love for each other but not this time right Sammy?"
Kevin: "What the hell happened to you guys?" Dean: "The Cliff Notes? I went to Purgatory. Sam hit a dog."
I like having this going now. Makes it fun :)
ReplyDeleteHard not to love the funny ones. My favorite I think was crowleys. He is just great and it's always so well delivered
Oh yeah, I had the same reaction to the Did you look for me Sam...It hurt my heart.
ReplyDeleteYes, it was "dark side of the moon" all over again :-/
ReplyDeleteDean being hurt because he think that Sammy choices not being the same as his, mean Sam doesn't love him as much as he loves his little bro. It goes deep within Dean abandonment issues.
And Sam being unable/unwilling to explain himself, just taking it... I have a hard time understanding why Sam didn't defend himself; unless he's lying to Dean about not searching for him?
So many to choose from. Thats how u know its a good SPN episode
ReplyDeleteIt is funny, in Swan Song, Sam told Dean not to try and save him, go find Lisa and live a normal life. In I think is was, No Rest For the Wicked, Dean told Sam to keep hunting and remember what he and John had taught him. Each of the brothers wanted the other to live life as they wanted it. Dean was still trying to find a way to get Sam out of the cage a year later and I just don't see Sam not trying in some way to find Dean. Wondering how this is going to play out...
ReplyDelete...A.M.E.N.....with the Quote collection..thats why are to many hard chose to pick one..????
ReplyDeleteKevin: "What the hell happened to you guys?" Dean: "The Cliff Notes? I went to Purgatory. Sam hit a dog."
ReplyDeleteDean: "After you looked for me…" (Sam says nothing.) Dean: "Did you look
for me Sam?" (Sam looks away.) Dean: "Good. That's good. No, we…we
always told each other not to look for each other. That's smart. Good
for you. Of course we always ignored that because of our deep abiding
love for each other but not this time right Sammy?"
Dean: "Where's the Angel?"
ReplyDeleteVampire: "You're him. The Human."
I don't know why I find these almost primitive pronouns (I think) cool. It's like in Lord of the Rings; The Human, the Elf and the Dwarf. Except now, it's Purgatory; The Human, the Angel and the Vampire.
You make a very good point, one I hadn't thought of. They both tell the other to live the life /they/'d have lived, as opposed to what the person really wants. I know Dean loved Lisa and Ben, but I always got the impression that's not what made him happy, that living that live confused him more then anything else.
ReplyDeleteThat first one was like a stab in the gut, as I'm sure a lot of us feel at this point. Just hoping Sam has an underlying reason, that maybe he did look for Dean and isn't saying for some reason. .. He's really good at pretending if this is so though.
ReplyDeleteThat second one is definitely one of my favs. Summed things up rather nicely. Loved it.
My all-time favorite of this episode too. It was like demon - okay, but safety school - Arrgghhh! Love their priorities.
ReplyDeleteCrowley was definitely a high point of the premiere. Of course, he always is a high point.
