Supernatural - Ultimate Episode Round 2D - Polls

30 Aug 2012

Wow! The last round went down to the wire with Devil's Trap squeaking past On the Head of a Pin by 1 vote! Also moving on will be Mystery Spot, which defeated The Man Who Would Be King roundly. Today also sees a powerhouse episode in Swan Song, which will be very hard to beat. We're also doing nominations for Are You There God? It's Me, Dean Winchester.

I apologize for the lateness of this poll today and for my lack of commenting. It's been a very busy week but things should get slower soon. Happy voting!

  1. This episode has some awesome quotes in it and an impossibly long title.

Are You There God? It's Me, Dean Winchester Quotes:

    15. Cas: " You should show me some respect. I dragged you out of hell. I can throw you back in."14. Sam: "Well apparently you're a regular guy that's important to the man upstairs." Dean: "Well that creeps me out. I mean I don’t like getting singled out at birthday parties much less by God." Sam: "Okay well too bad Dean. Because I think he wants you to strap on your party hat."13. Cas: "That's why we're here. Big things afoot." Dean: "Do I want to know what kind of things?" Cas: "I sincerely doubt it but you need to know. The rising of the witnesses is one of the 66 seals." Dean: "Okay, I'm guessing that's not a show at Sea world."12. Dean: "Okay, last one opens and…" Cas: "Lucifer walks free." Dean: "Lucifer. Well I thought Lucifer was just a story they told at demon Sunday school. There's no such thing." Cas: "3 days ago you thought there was no such thing as me."11. Sam: "Well then tell me what else it could have been." Dean: "Look all I know is that I was not groped by an angel."10. Sam: "Dean we have a theory." Dean: "Yeah, one with a little less fairy dust on it please." 9. Sam: "Fireplace in the library." Bobby: "Bingo." Dean: "It's just not as appealing as a uh ghost-proof panic room. You know." 8. Dean: "Alright stop right there. Whatever the hell is going on, it's happening to us now okay. I can't get a hold of Bobby so if you're not thinking answers, don't think at all."7. Dean: "I thought angels were supposed to be guardians - fluffy wings, halos, you know Michael Landon. Not d**." 6. Dean: "As in Apocalypse, Apocalypse. The 4 horsemen, pestilence, $5 a gallon gas Apocalypse." 5. Dean: "Come out, come out whoever you are." Meg: "Dean Winchester, still so bossy."4. Dean: "Any chance you've got everything we need here in this room?" Bobby: "So you thought our luck was going to start now all of a sudden."3. Dean: "Ronald, hey come on man. I thought we were pals." Ronald: "That's when I was breathing. Now I'm going to eat you alive." Dean: "Heh, well come on. I'm not a cheeseburger."2. Dean: "Dude." Sam: "Yeah?" Dean: "Where's the pie?" 1. Sam: "You built a panic room?" Bobby: "I had a weekend off."

So I went with Swan Song for the first one The second one was really hard because those are two of my favorite episodes from that season, and I really just wanted to vote for both. Since I couldn't decide, I ended up voting for The Song Remains the Same because it had less love <3

  4. Two easy choices. Swan song was an awesome finale. Very emotional with in intense cliffhanger.
Abandon all hope is one of my favourite episodes. It's just incredible. Full of action and intense awesomeness including the epic and very sad deaths of the beloved Ellen and Jo. Just an all round great episode

  5. 1. Swan Song- Great finale. I can't really describe why it's a favorite. In general, it was good.

TMWKTM was a meh finale. I did really like watching Sam piece himself back together. Always fun seeing people face themselves. Sam vs. Soulless Sam was really good. And poor Hell Sam.

    2. Abandon All Hope- I like the dark episodes. Loved the last night on Earth party and photo, and Castiel having to face Lucifer. I was so sad Ellen and Jo died though. :(

Song Remains The Same was really good too, with the time travel, young Mary and John, and some great quotes, but AAH beat it in my book.

  7. Swan song most definitely.
Abandon all hope. Its not just a great episode, I dont like the other one very much at all.

  8. Swan Song and Abandon All Hope this time. Sad episodes, but very strong.

  9. Swan Song has not been an ep that could beat it for me...so far. It had everything I love about SPN and that beating makes me sob every time. Dean saying "It's OK I'm not going to leave you" the flash backs with the boys in Baby, it was perfect.

Abandon All Hope for my other one, kind of seem like if I don't cry in an ep I don't like it. lol I remember watching it the first time and holding my breath that Dean would kiss Jo on the lips, not just the forehead. SIGH I loved Jo and Dean they were just so dang cute together, would have liked to see where than could have gone over time.

  10. didnt actually like any of the 4 episodes so I closed my eyes and picked.
Quotes? dont even remember the episode let alone what was said, I'm releying on other people to trigger my memory. I've only seen the episode the one time when it aired and havent seen it since.

  11. everytime we have these favourite quote polls it reminds me how very few lines Sam can have in an episode/how most of his lines are neither memorable or significant in any way/how the writers really dont bother with Sam all that much. Some episodes all he actually does is spout of facts about the case and give the occassional response to something Dean or someone else has said.

    ReplyDelete
  12. I disagree on most points. For most episodes Sam does a lot of talking so I don't agree that he has few lines. I certainly don't agree that the writers don't bother with Sam. He is one of the main characters so he is always significant. I understand that people are not happy with his story. I have some issues with it too but that doesn't mean that he's unimportant. Last season he was the only brother with a story arc - granted a poorly plotted one that was barely there some of the time and ended to abruptly. Still he had one. This sounds more like the hellatus blues talking than anything else.

What I do agree with is that in the quotes contest, it often seems Dean heavy. However that's because Sam is the straight man to Dean's snark a lot. Dean's sarcastic. Sam's serious. Sarcasm tends to stick out more. It doesn't mean that what Sam is saying isn't important. It means that people favor snark when talking about quotes.

  13. Dean had a depression story arc. It was poorly plotted and ended without much closure, but was prominent in most of the episodes of the season.

  14. I agree. Sam has at times shown kind of a dry sarcasm: "That's not school, that's schoolhouse rock." But we haven't had much of that lately. Ironically the times that Sam has shown the most personality was when he was on demon blood or soulless. I think the writing staff has gone too far in making Sam the straight man to Dean's goofy comments and they've stripped him of personality. He's also so polarized between bad Sam and good Sam that good Sam has almost became a saint. This past season he was always forgiving. He never acted out over anger or frustration. They should let Sam loosen up a little sometimes too. There are a lot of shows that do a good job of writing brainy and straighter characters in an interesting way, and Sam needs to find his voice again.

  15. I voted for Swan Song and Abandon All Hope. Not much to say. They were just better episodes.

  16. Swan Song
    The Song Remains the Same

  17. Sad to see On the Head of a Pin go, I would take it over all episodes competing today... but well, Devil's Trap was a worthy oponent and OtHoaP didn't go down without a fight.

Today it's The Man Who Knew Too Much and Abandon All Hope. The former because Swan Song is so terribly overrated it makes me sick. As the finale of a 5-year-long story arc, it was actually pretty weak. It was an overdepressing end to an overdepressing season and for me it's just unbearable. I loved some stuff about that episode, like the history of Impala and the ending scenes, but overall I choose souljuice crazy Cas declaring himself God in an episode featuring Crowley and Balthazar, with some magnificent Sam scenes.
The latter is choosing the lesser evil. I detest The Song Remains the Same big time. Hate what they did to Anna's character and it feels like the episode was only there to make Sam have what Dean had. Stupid. I'm not a particular fan of Abandon All Hope, but closing my eyes to the Jo scenes, there is actually some pretty good stuff in it.

  18. As for quotes, I have one favourite:
Dean: What else can do it?
Bobby: Airlift your ass out of the hot box? As far as I can tell, nothing.

I love it because it's Bobby's way to say "raise you from perdition" xD

    Honestly.I don't remember many quotes from past episodes.I don't have a super-memory.

  20. The Man Who Knew Too Much - I'm in the minority,I know, but I liked it much better than Swan Song.In fact, for me Swan Song is the weakest finale so far. It's a 40 minute episode and the only thing I remember is the graveyard scene.Which is a beautiful, sad scene, one of show's best. But it's still just a five minute scene. The rest is completely forgettable and I find that unacceptable for a season finale.
The Man Who Knew Too Much had the trip in Sam's mind, the "I'm not leaving my brother alone" line,Crowley,Balthazar,Raphael's death and a very, very shocking finale. It gets my vote without a second though.

Abandon All Hope - One of my all time favorites.Intense, lots of action and one of the saddest moments of all time.I adore Ellen.Jo is great as well, but Ellen is one of my favorite characters.
It's a shame that it's against The Song Remains the Same, cause I really like it as well.

For the quotes I'm gonna pass the entire episode and many great, snarky quotes and go to the Dean-Cas scene simply because that was when I realized that if he survived the next 5 episodes I would really love Castiel as a character.

    - Cas: " You should show me some respect. I dragged you out of Hell,I can throw you back in."

    - Cas: "Why do you think we're here, walking among you now,for the first time in 2000 years?"
    Dean: "To stop Lucifer."

  21. Oh dear; I see that the four remaining episodes are not amongst my truly favourite ones, but I want to vote anyway so I'll go for TMWKTM even if I don't particularly like it; however it was interesting to witness the reasons behind Castiel's decision to ally himself with Crowley.
Swan Song is definitely not for me.

While I liked Abandon All Hope well enough, I always enjoy stories about the brothers' past so I voted for The Song Remains The Same.

  22. easy day for me. Swan Song and Abandon All Hope.

  23. I too think Swan Song is overrated. It was a decent if slow paced and overly emo episode that I liked a whole lot better the first time than I do in the repeat. For me the biggest problem is that except for the opening voice over and the final showdown, I rarely remember anything about the episode. For a finale it's pretty forgettable. I also think it loses major points for the Sam return at the end, which negated the power of the whole story arc to me, and even the fact that the big climax was two people falling in a hole.

  24. Ha! Never connected those two quotes together. Thanks!

  26. Ha! We think alike. I just posted above that Swan Song was largely forgettable too.I remember the beginning and the end but very little of the middle and I've seen the episode multiple times.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Swan Song, because again, almost everything in seasons 1-5 is better than season 6. I will concede that The Man Who Knew Too Much had some strong moments (namely the Sam on Sam action) but on the whole I FAR more moved by Swan Song. First time through I practically sobbed the whole time. Emotional manipulation, Kripke...but it's the kind I like. Ha.

The second poll, well, I voted The Song Remains the Same because I just love the episode. I am a big fan of young John and Mary, and I found the emotional beats between the guys and the young "parents" to be true. Plus, we finally "meet" Michael. And I just love the episode. Abandon All Hope is just too damn depressing.
