  1. So this is going to more like Nikita. Cool.

  2. Sounds promising (holds breath and rolls eyes).

  3. Yes please, give Laurel an active role rather than just make her the damsel-in-distress/love interest. I don't expect her to become Black Canary and start kicking ass right away, but she should be involved in the storylines.

  4. So Laurel knows Oliver's identity by the second episode? That was a lot quicker than I suspected.

  5. I am looking forward to this series and having my fave, Supernatural right after it. It's a marriage made in Heaven.

  6. I don't think they've ever described the character as anything like a "damsel in distress" even way back when they were casting it. I have a few concerns about this show but Laurel (Katie Cassidy) being meek or someone who constantly needs rescuing isn't one of them.

  7. I'm not sure I've ever seen Katie Cassidy play meek. I assumed with the casting, she would be kicking butt and taking names.

  8. From what you can get from a one sentence synopsis, this show sounds like it will have a lot of action. Exactly what I am looking for.

  9. That's surprising to me too but of course I'm going by Smallville and the whole identity thing was strung out far too long for my tastes there.

  10. Why would anyone willingly go by the name Laurel in this day and age? 'Dinah' works so much better.

If they wanted to distance themselves from the comics by changing the names of cities and characters... then they shouldn't be adapting comics.

So far the changes have been absolutely pointless. Change for the sake of change. So despite my annoyance, it doesn't make me any less excited for the show.

  11. I'm thinking they're for calling her Laurel because of her mother. I'm not sure what her mother's status is in the series, if she's alive or dead, but I'm betting she's going to show up before long. And her name is also Dinah. I'm thinking they're not using her first name because the elder Dinah will return, so she'll be called Dinah.

  12. I don't think the synopsis necessarily says that. It could very well mean that both are separately targeting the businessman.

  13. You do have a point. It should become clearer once there's a full synopsis.

  14. Just try to stay positive. I had low expectations for the Batman reboot way back in 2005 and I was super surprised. I know this is TV but sometimes shows surprise you in a good way as well. I love Batman and Green Arrow was literally just a knock off in the beginning but I've come to have high regards for GA because he's actually a lot more the anti hero than Batman ever was or could be and this show despite all the useless changes seems to be wanting to hearken to when Green Arrow was at his most awesome (when it was under Mike Grell's direction and was a mature audience graphic novel) besides when he teamed up with Green Lantern (Hal Jordan version). Trust me, I'm probably one of the biggest comic book geeks around, especially when it comes to the DCU, I'm steaming underneath but I'm willing to give this show a chance. As long as we don't ever get either Speedy I'm good. But I think the main reason for not using Dinah has to with that train wreck called Birds of Prey, they might be trying to distance themselves or for all we know it could be a character rights restricted thing (you honestly never know what movie scripts, treatments, etc. are flying around sometimes).

  15. I hope she becomes Black Canary by the end of the first season. That or I want her sister to become Speedy.

  16. I thought the promo said her sister died while she was having sex with Oliver. Not a promising start.

  17. Yeah sorry I was talking about Oliver's sister XD. I forgot to put that.

  18. You're right that Katie Cassidy makes more sense as a proactive, kickass character than a damsel-in-distress. My concern stemmed mostly from the fact that on superhero movies/shows, the hero's girlfriend tends to be weak and always need rescuing by him (Mary Jane in Raimi's Spiderman movies... UGH). However, that doesn't seem to be the case here, which is good.

  19. I agree. I assume Laurel is going after him "legally", through her job, whereas Oliver is doing his vigilante thing. This would be another similarity to Batman Begins (Rachel Dawes, the love interest, as an assistant DA who pursued the same criminals as Batman).

  20. That's what I'm hoping for. If Arrow is anywhere near as good as Nikita, the CW may be starting to turn the tide: more dark, thrilling action shows, less BS teen dramas about spoiled rich kids in love triangles.
