Yesterday LOST and Hawaii 5-0 both comfortably reached round two, leading to both Criminal Minds and Heroes saying goodbye at the earliest stage. With LOST's still strong fan base on the website it stands a good chance of progressing to the latter stages, but will have some sterner tests to prove its worth. Hawaii 5-0 however put in an exceptional performance and looks good for giving the competition a good run.
Today we end round one with the BBC's new flagship drama in Sherlock as it takes on Showtime's thriller drama Dexter. Both shows are incredibly popular, so it will be interesting to see how both do. We also have HBO's critically acclaimed The Sopranos taking on CBS' Moonlight, a show cancelled after only 16 episodes. I know very little about the Alex O'Loughlin show, and it faces a tough test today.
If you want to see the draw for the rest of the competition, and see which show will take on which other show then head HERE for a look. Let the voting begin!

Easy day for me today.
ReplyDeleteSherlock as it's one of the strongest TV series to come from the UK in years. It's thrilling, fun, action packed, clever and boasts some fantastic performances. No discredit to Dexter, but Sherlock is epic!
And the second poll is The Sopranos. I genuinely can't see how anyone could not choose The Sopranos today, it took me about twenty minutes to type out its major Emmy wins. It's staggering how successful it was, and to compare it to a show cancelled after one season sums up my thoughts on that poll :P
I went with Moonlight because that's the only show I've watched out of the four of them.
ReplyDeleteDexter and The Sopranos for ne
ReplyDeleteFirst time I've been able to vote in both polls.
ReplyDeleteDexter & The Sopranos
You can just look to the emmy nominations and you can decide! The Sopranos is better and Sherlock is 'brilliant'
ReplyDeleteMoonlight, introduced me to Alex O's sexiness but I can not vote for the show on that mere factor, that show was a train wreck (I only even saw it because The CW played it that one summer as filler, didn't even catch the original run on CBS)
ReplyDeleteComparing The Sorpranos to Moonlight is like asking would you like Filet Mignon or a burger w/o anything on it....Sorpranos of course! It was a brilliant series, the writing, the actors all fabulously told, plus my cousin was in it! BUT that wasn't was i voted for it,it deserves it.
ReplyDeleteI also went with Sherlock,it was superb!
Yep! You said it all!
ReplyDeletedexter and moonlight for me
ReplyDeleteI really love Sherlock, so it clearly gets my vote ;) and in the second poll, it`s Moonlight .
ReplyDeleteI didn't watch The Sopranos or Moonlight, but I voted for The Sopranos. I used to love Dexter, but these last two seasons have really sucked, and Sherlock (all of it) has been spectacular; so I voted Sherlock.
ReplyDeleteSorry, Dexter, but Sherlock is far superior sociopath to yours.
ReplyDeleteThe second choice is harder, because I LOVE both shows. Had to go with moonlight because, imo, its one of the most awesome things to happen within last decade and sadly it got unfairly cancelled.
Dexter and of course The Sopranos gotta represent Jersey!!!!!!!!!!!!
ReplyDeletemoonlight is the only thing i watched so ...ya
ReplyDeleteOnly saw one episode of Sherlock and wasn't excited about it. Have only seen bits of Dexter and Sopranos but they are not for me. Watched all of Moonlight and got tired of the will they-won't they by the third episode. However Moonlight did have one thing - the awesome Jason Dohring as Josef so it gets my vote. He really should have been the main character because he was vastly more interesting than anyone else on the show.
ReplyDeleteThe Sopranos is one of the best shows I've ever seen. I was totally engrossed in all the characters, psychopathic though they were, and through them saw life from a different vantage point. Expertly written and acted, I was pleased to vote for The Sopranos. I never heard of Moonlight. I thought what was meant was that thing with Bruce Willis and Cybill Shepherd but I guess not.
ReplyDeleteI saw two episodes of Sherlock, and it was cute and enjoyable, but I've yet to see Dexter, which is supposed to be fantastic. So I didn't vote in that poll.
I really like the BBC Sherlock series as it is a fun and very smart take on the classic story, and Dexter may have had a really bad season last year, but seasons 2 and 4 of Dexter still have yet to be beat... So Dexter.
ReplyDeleteAnd the Sopranos.
Easy votes today.
ReplyDeleteThe Sopranos
Dexter
I find Sherlock entertaining, but never have found it anywhere near top-notch TV I guess.
I guess i'm on the losing side for both today.
ReplyDeleteDexter and Moonlight.
I know people love the Sopranos and it was hugely popular, but it could never capture my interest.
The problem with Moonlight is that it never got a chance at a 2nd season. It left SO much up in the air.
Oh i agree, Jason Dohring's character was much more interesting. I wish the show had had the chance at a 2nd season, there was so much potential.
ReplyDeleteI've never watched Dexter, but Sherlock is one of the smartest written (without being unattainable or too clever for itself) and acted shows I've seen lately, so it definitely gets my vote.
ReplyDeleteNo voting in the other poll as I haven't seen any of those shows.
Uhhh, both are very close at the moment.
ReplyDeleteCould only vote on the first one. Was a tough decision, I like both shows and it could have gone either way, but overall I loved every episode of Sherlok besides the Bakersville one and what Cumberbatch and Freeman do on this show is just phenomenal.
Many Alex O'Loughlin fangirls suggesting it before the competiition? lol
ReplyDeleteI'd be good with a Josef spin-off series or anything that gets Jason Dohring a more regular TV gig. Anyone know if he's got a new show out? Haven't heard anything.
ReplyDeleteWow, these polls are so incredibly close... I don't actually watch any of the four shows, so I was going to vote for the "underdog"... but there doesn't seem to be one. I suppose I'll check back later!
ReplyDeleteYikes! lol...... ;)
ReplyDeleteOMG i can't believe it a dead heat.....wow,i never would have thought it could happen.
ReplyDeleteDexter & Sopranos for me!!
ReplyDeleteWell its becoming obvious people like hamburger with nothing on it,instead of filet Mignon.Sad state of affairs this is turning out to be.
ReplyDeleteIf stuff like TVD and Heroes got in, there's no surprise that Moonlight, far superior to both of previously mentioned ones, did :)
ReplyDeleteI vote for Sherlock. I have always loved just about all the various Sherlock series and films I have seen and this is no exception.
ReplyDeleteI have seen a couple of episodes of Dexter but it's not for me. A show that makes a serial killer its hero is definitely out!
I don't like Mafia stories no matter how well done they are, and I've never seen the other one.
Yeah, but Heroes was never in the lead.
ReplyDeleteJason is set to star in a new movie called Scared Of The Dark it's a horror film done by Sam Raimi & Rob Tapert's Ghost House Pictures and The Grudge director Takashi Shimizu.
ReplyDeleteI voted for Dexter and Moonlight. Sherlock Holmes I have not seen but I have seen Dexter and it's pretty good show. I had to go with Moonlight because it's my all time favorite vampire show. Moonlight had it all. Great writing, beautiful sets, kick ass music, and an awesome cast who had amazing chemistry together. As much as I would love to see a Moonlight movie get made with the original cast but with Alex tied to Hawaii Five-0 I don't see that happening anytime soon. But I would love to see a Moonlight spin-off with Jason Dohring in the lead as Josef and the rest of the original cast. There is 400 years worth of flashback stories they could tell mixed in with a modern era storyline
ReplyDeleteThanks for the info. I'm not so much into horror movies these days since the millennium's apparent fascination with torture porn. (Saw, I blame you.) May have to see reviews before I plunk down hard earned money for this one.
ReplyDeleteHad to go Dexter. Sherlock just didn't do it for me. The episodes are also too long for it to be quality throughout. Wasn't impressed with the last season of Dexter but it's still better.
ReplyDeleteYup.
ReplyDeleteMoonlight!! Haven't actually seen any of the other shows but have seen Moonlight at least twice and it's awesome!
ReplyDeletewow that is odd dexter is losing
ReplyDeleteYes, that would be awesome! Josef was an intriguing character, though i'm sure mostly in part to Jason's compelling personality. You can't believe how excited I was when I found out he was gonna be in an episode of Supernatural. A shame we didn't see more of him though.
ReplyDeleteYES! Jason is such a wonderful and compelling actor, he made Josef so likeable, even though you know he's done some terrible things. Its a shame the show was not picked up after it's first season. But a spin-off about Josef, that might even be better.
ReplyDeleteTrue but he is a god so there's a chance he'll come back. What am I saying? He's dead (kind of) on Supernatural. Of course he'll come back. I project season 10.
ReplyDeleteJosef on Moonlight played Chronos on the Time After Time episode if that helps.
ReplyDeleteOr a bunch of people who truly loved the show and think that if it didn't precede the Twilight Vampire craze it would have been on for a lot longer. Or people who have an affinity for shows they believe were canceled too soon. There are lots of reasons why someone might want to nominate Moonlight. The main guy is only one of them. Whether people here believe it or not, Moonlight still has a pretty big following of people who were crushed when it was canceled. The fan base reminds me of Jericho. I watched it last summer simply because so many people told me I had to see it when I asked for suggestions online. While I didn't have the same reaction to it as they did, I respect their passion for a too-early canceled show.
ReplyDeleteHa! You're thinking of Moonlighting. It's all in the "ing". I was confused at first too.
ReplyDeleteThat's my core problem with Dexter and Sopranos too. You should try Moonlight if only because there are only 16 episodes so it's a good hellatus breaker. I'd be interested to hear what you think about it.
ReplyDeleteHmm. I've only seen the first season of Sherlock, but I kind of enjoyed it more than Dexter's 6 seasons averaged together, so I'm not sure who to vote for on this one. I think I want to vote for Sherlock, but I'm not sure that would be fair to Dexter.
ReplyDeleteSherlock for me, certainly. Television doesn't get much better than that.
ReplyDeleteYou had it right before when you mentioned age demographics. I expected Moonlight and Sherlock to be winning before I looked. It just seems weird to me. I never watched primetime or evening TV until my mid 30's. Except for the occasional 9pm shows after work/before play!
ReplyDeleteEasy, Sherlock and The Sopranos, both are much better than the "competition."
ReplyDeleteYeah, same here. The first time I saw Dexter's plastc curtains for his little cutting blood-games, I knew it was a no.
ReplyDeleteAs for the Mafia, they are criminals so not heroes either!
I'll be going on holiday to the UK soon and there are usually great summer bargains to be had on DVD's so I'll stock up. I'll see if I can find that too
If not I'll get myself a mega-order of shows from Amazon. :)
We do get a lot of American shows here in Europe, but they are obviously dubbed and if they have any kind of snarky dialogue at all, it tends to get lost in the translation so I prefer watching them in English.
I'm not a great fan of following shows on the computer. I like to curl up in front of the televison set to really appreciate them.
Let me know if you get them or any show you are starting to marathon. If I've watched it, we could discuss to make the hellatus go by farther.
ReplyDeleteI didn't watch that much tv until i hurt my back.Yeah aging has a way of changing your likes and dislikes even before you know it!
ReplyDelete+1
ReplyDeleteAgreed.
ReplyDeleteSopranoes has its recognition. Moonlight on other hand never got the chance, but from what we got in those 16 episodes, it was certainly best vampire show since btvs/ats.
I so need Jason in something else (hated his run on Ringer but it was nice to see him). He will forever be Logan to me though.
ReplyDeleteSherlock for me, but why is the Moonlight poll already closed??
ReplyDeleteI would have been very happy for Jason to have been the star of the show, loved his Josef and he had great chemistry with Beth. For me this was Alex's best American series so far, much better than 3 Rivers or even H50.
ReplyDeleteAs much as I loved Josef on Moonlight they did not use him as much as they needed to, Logan was awesome and snarky and sweet and some times I really hated Veronica for the way she treated him. lol
ReplyDeleteMoonlight? Seriously?
ReplyDeleteWhen I started watching Veronica Mars 2 summers ago I could not for the life of me understand the Logan love. He was an awful person. Then as I kept watching I finally got it. I still don't love him as much as much as a lot of VM fans do but I can honestly say that Dohring did an awesome job of portraying him.
ReplyDeleteWill do, thanks. :)
ReplyDeleteThat actually DOES help - I was in love with Jason Dohring on Veronica Mars. Moonlight, it is!
ReplyDeleteI don't really like horror movies, but hey, I might just have to check it out. Thanks :)
ReplyDeleteYes, that's it. That show was kind of cute and it was very good to Bruce Willis!
ReplyDeleteMy family used to watch that show together. It's one of my favorite TV memories from when I was a kid.
ReplyDeleteI used to work 3 to 11 shifts so forget about TV. Now that I'm no longer working (yay!), I start my chill-out time at about 7 pm.
ReplyDeleteLol,i like the Yay! Yeah me too,but if my back is acting up and i'm stuck inside, then it could be an all day marathon of something,Lost,Fringe.etc....
ReplyDeleteHow ya doing? How's the whether by you? Gee its so freaking humid here and hot here,my neighbor has a kiddy pool and all i want to do is get in there and lay down,ha!
The weather is hot in Chicagoland and dry, dry, dry. I spend a lot of my day trying to salvage my poor shrubs and trees by watering them. Nevertheless I keep working out and walk 6 miles every 3 days, trying to build up my bones so I don't need to take that nasty bone medicine. I have to go early before it hits 100 degrees. I've also been reading a lot. I know you like to read too. Suggestions: Clara and Mr. Tiffany, and Hellhound on his Trail (about the assassination of Martin Luther King).
ReplyDeleteCan you believe it? Moonlight, a show no one ever heard of, beat out The Sopranos, one of the finest shows ever. I shake my head.
Yeah i don't know but i have noticed there are a lot of new people here,i've been noticing it over the last 3 or 4 months now,it seems taste is also changing with it? Here too trying to keep everything alive. When its this hot i can water my flowering plants twice a day! I must say you are doing much better with walking than me..With it this hot because of my heart i cannot walk,by the time it cools off enough i will need physical therapy again just to build my strength to be able to walk! I do love to read but for some reason i haven't picked up my book that i started moths ago,a Patrica Cornwell book. yeah Moonlight,on for one season,a show no one watched yet it beat The Sopranos,i don't get it?
ReplyDeleteTake care in this heat, and don't over do it! Good talking to you. ;)
