Yesterday was our busiest day of the competition so far, and it produced two close run polls where any of the four shows stood a decent chance at reaching round two. Fringe ended up beating Bones with 56% of the votes, sending one of the big current shows of the competition crashing out early on. Charmed also sent ER out early on, with a 58% win over the medical drama. It was a strong showing from the supernatural drama, one it will need to replicate to stand any chance against Firefly in the next round.
Today sees two more current and two more finished shows doing battle for a place in the next round.
Firstly we have drama The Good Wife taking on The CW's surprise renewal for next season, Nikita. Both are quite popular with a decent group of fans, so it will be an interesting battle to see play out.
Secondly critically acclaimed police drama The Wire takes on one of the most popular teen dramas of the past ten years in The OC. It has very different fan bases, and to guess which one is stronger on STV is a tough call to make.
If you haven't joined in the competition before, remember that all you need to do is simply select which show is your favourite in both of the polls below. Easy!
If you want to see the draw for the rest of the competition, and see which show will take on which other show then head HERE for a look. Let the voting begin!

Very easy choices for me today; The Good Wife and The Wire. Quality and acclaimed TV Series!
ReplyDeleteUgh this is haaard. Nikita's one of my favorite current shows but I'm certain The Good Wife is technically better. The Wire vs The OC was a much easier choice though (The Wire)
ReplyDeleteThe Wire!!!!oneone!!!eleven!!11!
ReplyDeleteHow could anyone not pick The Wire, and The Good Wife,tv at its best!
ReplyDeleteThis one was easy for me as 2 of the shows I have not watched, so Nikita and The Wire gets my vote.
ReplyDelete..the second poll i never watch each show but i heard the wire was good is like miami vice style i think (?)
ReplyDeletethe Good wife
ReplyDeleteand The OC
This is the first time in the competition that i have to choose between shows that i really like... It has to be The Good Wife and The Wire..
ReplyDeleteTwo superb shows: The Good Wife and The Wire.
ReplyDeleteI voted for The OC. I still love it, and season four is my favorite!
ReplyDeleteNot exactly Miami Vice. The Wire is set in Baltimore and examines crime and goodness on the street and in the police department, the schools and the newspapers. You should watch it.
ReplyDeletethe good wife ......no contest
ReplyDeleteCome on The Wire!
ReplyDeleteI feel crazy for choosing Nikita over The Good Wife but I'm a sucker for a little show that could, especially if it's on the CW and use to be a lead in for SPN, sympathy vote I guess
ReplyDeleteBut hands down The Wire, no hesitation there
Have not seen either show in the first poll so have not voted. The second one was easy, the wire, as it has such great writing, acting, and it such a thought provoking show
ReplyDeleteOnly voted in the second poll... The Wire of course!
ReplyDeletei dont get that title, the O.C. Hey, let's go to the orange county in the america
ReplyDeleteNikita and The OC ftw
ReplyDeleteNikita & The O.C.
ReplyDeleteSeriously?
ReplyDeleteThe OC is actually close to The Wire? UNACCEPTABLE!
The Wire is arguably the best series EVER on TV and The OC may not be the best series on its own channel the night it aired..... Wow.
The Good Wife.
The wire.
The Good Wife - Undoubtedly the best drama that I've seen on broadcast tv in the last few years. It's got everything from an unbelievably talented cast to really great character-driven storylines, and a perfect mix of humor and drama. Very poignant at times, and every hour is well-spent.
ReplyDeleteThe Wire - Because it's THE WIRE. Undervalued by HBO/Emmys but it is a highly influential and gripping series!!! :D
Nikita
ReplyDeleteThe Wire
Easy picks this time around - The Good Wife and The Wire. I absolutely cannot BELIEVE that The OC is giving The Wire any competition. CRAZY.
ReplyDeleteI've only really seen 2 shows this time around - The Good Wife and Nikita. While The Good Wife is technically better, Nikita is far more entertaining to me so it gets my vote.
ReplyDeleteI voted for The OC only because I haven't watched The Wire
ReplyDeleteI voted for Nikita as it is my current favourite TV show. As for The Wire and The OC, they are so different from each other. My teenage self wants to choose The OC, but my adult self would choose The Wire considering its realism and pure entertainment. I just can't pick ..
ReplyDeleteOnly show I watch here is Nikita. Nikita must win! I love that show. So much action, no dull moments. I love the actors, everything.
ReplyDeleteI voted for Nikita.
ReplyDeleteI haven't watched any of the other shows.
I've seen a couple eps of TGW, and although it's a very good show, Nikita is more my kind of show at the moment and it gets my vote. I really can't vote for the second pairing as I haven't watched either, although everything I've ever heard about the Wire is stellar and I intend to eventually start watching it, but I have to work myself into it as I've hear that the tone is so dark and grim. It's on the list to "finally get around to watching" along with Six Feet Under and Friday Night Lights.... just never enough time
ReplyDeleteJust Nikita. Don't know anything else here.
ReplyDeleteSeeing The Wire lose reminds me why I never participate in these kind of things usually.
ReplyDeleteI can't believe The Wire is losing,to the OC,that's pathetic..
ReplyDeleteGW all the way!
ReplyDeleteGood Wife and the Wire! And both shows are loosing :(
ReplyDeleteI´ve seen OC a couple of times, but all four of these shows means nothing to me, so I didn´t vote today.
ReplyDeleteI'm so sad the Good Wife is losing :-( Sure, it's West Wing-lite but still, it's a pretty solid show.
ReplyDeleteLove The Good Wife. So much. Love me some Nikita too. But love TGW more.
ReplyDeleteI've only seen The Wire pilot. It didn't grip me to move on to the next one. I'm sure I'll get back to it at some point. Maybe because I've been hearing for years how it is literally the best series ever made is the reason why I was sort of underwhelmed with the pilot. I feel like a terrible tv fan since I haven't seen the series. Oh well. I'll get there eventually....
Wow the wire losing to the O.C that's just crazy.
ReplyDeleteNot generally into legal shows, but Good Wife hooked me and I marathoned 2 seasons last year - excellent drama. Never seen the OC, sure I never will either.
ReplyDeleteanticipating the vote for Supernatural. ready to go ballistic on it...lol
ReplyDeletevoted Nikita and O C. obviously
ReplyDeleteThe OC is winning over The Wire. Im losing my faith in humankind
ReplyDeleteKeep the faith. There's still time for The Wire to pull out ahead.
ReplyDeleteUp!
ReplyDelete.5 up! xD
ReplyDeleteUp!
ReplyDeleteComments like this annoy me to no end.
ReplyDeleteLook, the very nature of HBO's business model means that the number of people who have seen and enjoyed The Wire is dwarfed by the number of people who have seen and enjoyed The OC.
The Wire is, without a doubt, the superior show but that doesn't mean it has brought entertainment/enjoyment to more people.
the good wife and the OC!
ReplyDeleteNikita. I watched The Good Wife's first season but I just wasn't interested enough come back for season 2. I was just about to give up on Nikita as well when they teamed up Birckhoff, Nikita and Michael...that got me fired up and turned into an avid viewer.
ReplyDeleteI agree compleley with your post, especally your last paragraph.
ReplyDeleteThere are shows that are probably better made than others, with more time and money spent on costumes and sets, or with more articulated dialogue but that doesn't automatically make them more appealing or enjoyable than the "cheaper" ones.
It's like saying that people should listen only to classical music because it's far superior to "pop" and maybe it is, but that doesn't take away the pleasure that "pop" has given to billions of people around the world.
Me too, because it deserves it.
ReplyDeleteIt's far superior to the great majority of the shows on this list. In my opinion naturally ! :)
Well, season 1 for me was really good for The Good Wife, but season 2 is when it got really really good for me. Characters like Kalinda and Eli Gold (and many others) made it must-watch tv for me. Season 3 kept up with season 2 but ultimately I think season 2 might've been better for the finale's ending. :)
ReplyDeleteCouldn't vote today cause have never seen an episode of any of those shows.
ReplyDeleteSince I access SpoilerTV over the Dashboard and the Favorite TV show polls are only included if it is a "favorited" show, could someone create a new special tag or include it in the Polls or SpoilerTV ARticle section? Thx
Nikita & The OC
ReplyDeleteI am just glad that this contest got renamed Favorite TV Series instead of Best Show. There are many times when my favorite may not be considered the best by critics and the lot but they sure entertain me more. Makes for guilt-free voting.
ReplyDeleteOkay, nevermind.
ReplyDeleteYou know, it didn't even register with me that the contest was called "favourite" and not "best", but now that you point it out I suppose it's more apt; but even if it had been called "best", it wouldn't have really made any difference because what we consider "best" is just as subjective as "favourite" is.
ReplyDeleteAny way I always vote for what entertains me and I couldn't care less what the critics think. :-)
Nikita and The OC! Haven't actually watched the other two shows but have really grown to love Nikita. I watched The OC in high school and even though it went downhill in its last season, it was still a great show.
ReplyDeleteThe Wire will just never be as popular as I hope it'd be. Maybe next year!
ReplyDeleteThere is a special tag... it's "2012 Series Competition" :)
ReplyDeleteIt does seem to make people less angry :P
ReplyDeleteI'm aware that this one is at http://www.spoilertv.com/. Was talking about a tag in the Favorites section of
ReplyDeletehttp://stvplus.com/account/account_favourites. :)
