I think TVD has been overexposed and overrated lately, and this is definitely isn't their best season, all the bus is getting annoying for fans who read news in a regular basis, to be honest. Tons of interviews with more of what we already know are good press, but repetitively boring.
Why should they promote supernatural? It's not even remotely as good as it used to be (and it used to be incredible) and it's getting worse with each season.
Considering the considerable amount of (fair and just) criticism this show is getting for misogynism, sexism and lack of plot-coherence lately, I think CW is trying to drown it all out with pointless hype.
its far more useful to them to have the Internet full of "omg new poster" stuff than people discussing the unprofessional behavior of J.Plec and M.Davis blowing up with racist remarks towards the fanbase over twitter or the fact that the show has not moved an inch plot-wise nor character-wise since the start of second season.
I'm afraid, I disagree. The show is not getting that much mainstream criticism - and usually, subjects like misogyny and sexism don't get much attention anyway.
And why should it when you consider how the majority of the audience act like sheep; embracing everything the show dishes out and swallows it without a single critical thought. And worse, when someone actually does try to point out the shortcomings, the crazy fans rush in to dog-pile you into compliance. The amount of groupthink and lack of independent thinking in some fandoms can be truly remarkable.
JP showing her true colours is not that surprising, because it's been reflected in the writing for awhile. As for Matt Davis - another example of a typical white male in Hollywood.
Every fanbase has its sheep. TVD does have a LOT of them to the point that majority of fanbase has this tendency to disregard or outright attack anyone who criticizes the show.
However in the rational parts, when compared to how it was in lets say, season two, there's a whole lot more criticism and discussion about the show quality dropping and all those other things, not to mention that professional reviewers are starting to give TVD lower scores and ratings are constantly going down.
Thats exactly what the marketing team at CW is trying to drown out with the fluff like new posters and other pointless news and hype.
because there's this whole point at which the rational part of fanbase gets so loud that even the irrational parts of fanbase can no longer ignore the flaws the show has (refer to Gossip Girl and Supernatural fanbases)
Totally agree that the quality of Supernatural has declined, but I really can't hate the fact that it feels like these are people who really just need their paychecks. Both leads got married, and one just had a kid. Kind of feel like the CW is going to string Supernatural out like Smallville, quality be damned.
This is an altered version from the ones posted to the site a while back. I wonder why they changed it? http://www.spoilertv.co.uk/images/cache/the-vampire-diaries/season-3/wallpapers-and-posters/VD03-MK-0002_FULL.jpg
The triangle of doom is exactly the same. Elena got more annoying but did not get any character development nor character growth. Bella Swan now has some serious competition for the crown of "The most annoying and bland lead character" Steffie's bloodaholic plot went in circles back to S2 start. Damon is still mopping around and crying about Elena.
The only differences are that you have Klaus instead of Katherine(which is not even that big since both of them have been very subdued and consequence-less in their time on the show), oh and Alaric is crazy.
Jenna's death(which should have been major thing for Elena) changed nothing. Elena getting DEAD changed nothing(yet again where psychological ramifications of GETTING KILLED?) Steffies "i am evil now" plot never even happened. Klaus "the big bad" is busy building houses, painting horses and romancing teenagers.
Plot and character wise everyone is exactly the same. Zero growth.
Add to that the fact that this whole season has been nothing but pointless filler episodes without any real goal and here you go...we are still at the start of S2.
I do sort of agree about the triangle. If you read my other posts, I'm hoping it'll be resolved (or put on the backburner). If not, I think I can ignore it (I think). I also agree about Jenna, don't see any real long term effect. Not sure about the other stuff, I've liked Stefan's storyline, but that's just me. I like Klaus, he is shown to not just be evil, but also basically a spoilt brat who has pretty much gotten his way for the last 1000 years through threats and death.
Disqus generic email templateif are so bad why they win the two most important people choice award fighting along with fringe also a good show may be you had the same opinion about it may be you never visit the supernatural convention there is the prove that how honest and loyal the fans are & cw network must give the same strong promotion like the give to vampire diaries.
NOTE: Name-calling, personal attacks, spamming, excessive self-promotion, condescending pomposity, general assiness, racism, sexism, any-other-ism, homophobia, acrophobia, and destructive (versus constructive) criticism will get you BANNED from the party.

ReplyDeletei am agree with you they are to much promotion is time to give a supernatural the same respect
ReplyDeleteAll their other shows, actually!
ReplyDeleteThe fans drive and post their own news, which ensures that no show will ever be "over exposed" on a show like this.
ReplyDeleteIt's supply and demand.
The only thing irritating me about TVD, is it's huge amount of truly irritating, knee jerk, volatile fans. I love the show btw.

Agreed. Both Supernatural and TVD are incredibly overhyped things that USED TO be good.
ReplyDeleteFunnily enough both shows have HEAVILY suffered from sexism, misogyny and writer incompetence over the course of latest 2 seasons.

How has the plot not moved since beginning of season 2?
ReplyDeleteI think this is my favourite post for the entire week, if not month :P
ReplyDeleteWhy thank you, I do try.
ReplyDeleteWhat has changed? Nothing.
