STV Podcast 32 - Bring back 2 shows from the dead debate and TV Round-up

4 Apr 2012

The ODI, CJ, Adam and Heather debate on what 2 shows should be brought back from the dead in our new Weekly Topic section. We talk about the return of Fringe, the finale of The Walking Dead and the latest episode of Awake.

The ODI, CJ, Adam and Heather are all back with their views on the latest TV and Movies. We talk about the return of Fringe (4x15), the latest episode of Awake (1x04) and the finale of The Walking Dead (2x13).

Weekly Topic: If you could bring back 2 shows from the dead, what would they be?
Imagine that you had the power to bring back 2 TV shows from the dead within the past 3 decades what would they be? What 2 shows would you choose? The ODI, CJ, Adam and Heather debate (or argue with CJ again) what shows they think deserve a 2nd chance? Some of the shows we discuss and argue over include: 24, Angel, Firefly, Friends, Heroes, LOST, Pushing Daisies, Scrubs, Veronica Mars and X-Files.

We could only agree on one show and could not decide on the second, so after you have listened to the podcast help us settle our debate(argument) and vote on which one we should have saved here

We would love to hear your opinions on what 2 shows you would revive and why below in the comments or via Email or Twitter. So let us know and we may discuss some of your choices next week.

(times are approx)

  1. Deadwood. My dearest Deadwood...I'd give anything to use the Resurrection Stone on it so it could actually end. I think it would have been the greatest, if it had been given the chance to finish the story.

  2. Looking forward to listening.. and one of my votes for resurrected TV DEFINITELY goes to Veronica Mars... they took it from us too soon!

  3. I think equal to Mike Brown.
I would love to see the end of that story
and see Ian Mcshane playng Al Swearengen again.
My second choice would be Rome... or OZ...or 24
    realy don't know... so many...=P

  4. Firefly, and one you didn't mention: Farscape.

    ReplyDelete
  5. Jericho and X-Files. (Also considered Charmed, but there's so many I love that it's hard to choose.)

Firefly, and, if possibe, I'd save my other one for Fringe, for when it gets canceled before its time... :)

  7. Hey guys,

Really good podcast, I enjoyed and laugh a lot during the debate.

Thanks Adam and ODI for mention my choices! =)

In the end I think Lost an X-Files are the best options. Actually I haven't watched  Heroes or X-Files, but I heard a lot of complaints about Heroes and I know X-Files still have a lot of fans, so if I need to choose between then I go with X-Files.

About Awake I finally watched the pilot and I think it was really well done, but I cannot believe one it's real and other it's not, in my mind the guy is dead and the wife and the son survived or at least he's almost dead in coma at the hospital.

  8. Farscape and Veronica Mars for me.

    ReplyDelete
  9. Firefly and Studio 60.

    ReplyDelete
  10. Firefly most definitely then Dead Like Me.

    ReplyDelete
  11. Dead Like Me

Robson Arms (maybe Corner Gas or SGU)

  12. Too difficult. Veronica Mars, Deadwood, Party Down. Firefly, Pushing Daisies. HOW DO I PICK TWO ACK!

    ReplyDelete
  13. Of course I'm still a HUGE LOST fan, and I wish it would come back....but I'm not sure how it would fare w/o Damon and Carlton at the helm.  I loved X-Files.  But I'd have to say my second choice would be Firefly.  That was a wonderful show.  It had just found it's audience!

They had better not cancel FRINGE!

    ReplyDelete
  14. Lie to me + Life

    ReplyDelete
  15.  Mari, I'm with you -- I find it very hard to believe that one is real and one isn't; I also believe the guy is dead or comatose.

    ReplyDelete
  16. This!!  Such a shame they didn't finish the story off, same with Carnivale which would be my other choice.

    ReplyDelete
  17. Farscape for sure,i miss it like hell :(

    ReplyDelete
  18. Vengeance Unlimited and Buffy !!!! :)))

    ReplyDelete
  19. In terms of Awake, it'd be interesting if the crash somehow split his world into two separate realities and maybe he'll have to find a way to put them back together. It probably sounds like a crazy theory but it would be interesting and it'd mean there's a possibility for a happy ending because if one world is a dream, no matter which way it goes the end is still going to be devastating.

    ReplyDelete
  20. Buffy!!! Imagine the possibilities!

    ReplyDelete
  21. united states of tara and Party Down

    ReplyDelete
  22. Why did they kill off John Locke? His death is arguably the most pivotal moment in the entire series.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Pushing Daisies and Lost (but only if they give it a good ending this time).

    ReplyDelete
  24. My first choice would be Twin Peaks.

    Second Lost.

    ReplyDelete
  25.  I forgot about Life. I loved it. :-(

    ReplyDelete
  26. DOH! Twin Peaks of course!

24 and angel the ending really sucks.

  28. LOST is my favorite show of all time, but there's no way I'd want to see it get another season. Everything important was answered except for minor things like the lighthouse, glass eye, RG bracelet, etc. And if it was revived for a Season 7 right after where Season 6 ended, it'd give us a pretty boring show... Off-island we'd just have Kate, Frank, Sawyer, Miles, Richard, and Claire trying to find some place to land and lay low for the rest of the show with no remaining connections to the island (and there'd also be the undoubtedly awkward attempt to transition Claire back in as Aaron's mother despite him growing up believing Kate is his mother) unless Paik Heavy Industries pulls a Widmore and goes after it. And on-island we'd just have Hurley, Ben, and Walt trying to make minor improvements to the island like figuring out a way to get the ghosts off of it (which seems to be the main reason Walt was recruited in the first place to return to the island). There's no real pressing conflict especially since we know that Ben and Hurley survive on-island for a long time. We may get some side-stories with Rose, Bernard, and Vincent, but that's it. No more Locke. No more Jack. No more Desmond (apart from getting him home). Reviving LOST for a Season 7 is just a horrible idea. I'd rather see a reboot of the show before I saw a Season 7.
My votes for reviving shows go to Pushing Daisies (my second favorite show of all time and canceled way before its time) and Reaper (great show, but no conclusion whatsoever).

    ReplyDelete
  29. The writers have already pretty much dismissed those theories though...

    ReplyDelete
  30. Jericho and Moonlight, if only

    ReplyDelete
  31. 24 and Lost

    ReplyDelete
  32. I'm a huge fan of X- files. I would love to see more about the show, but i think that bringing X-Files back to life would be a very bad idea. The last two seasons of the show were the weakest and even if it could be possible it's return, it could not be with David and Gillian and i would refuse to watch X-Files without this two. So, the shows i would love to see return from the dead are MOONLIGHT, with only one season. It's cancelation was so unfair. And LEGEND OF THE SEEKER. This show had a lot of potencial and i still refuse to believe that the main reason it was canceled was because of the low ratings...

Great podcast, really fun to listen to. I have to agree with the CJ about show that reach a natural end and that come back. I would have to choose the X-files over heroes. As heroes had great first season and than rest was terrible ( I gave up somewhere in second season). I personally would bring back Firefly and for second on I have been racking my brain, maybe Friday Night Light or the 4400.

  34. I would say that I am a geek, but an old geek, I would bring back, 'Enterprise' and my favorite group of nerds 'Chuck'

    ReplyDelete
  35. Buffy the Vampire Slayer & Angel all the way! I'm a major geek when it comes to those two shows :D

    ReplyDelete
  36. Until a couple of months ago my answer would have been "Arrested development", but that prayer was already answered. Now I'd probably go with Carnivale and Rubicon.

24 and angel both ending was so laim.

    ReplyDelete
  38. oh, I forgot about Deadwood. I´d love to see that back. BUT not at the cost of loosing Timothy O. on Justified.  Deadwood had the best dialog ever on a TV show.

    ReplyDelete
  39. Good to see I´m not the only one missing Twin Peaks. Even though it has been so many years, TP was the reason I started loving TV shows. So many awesome charaters.

    ReplyDelete
  40.  Can't argue there. Love me some Justified.

    ReplyDelete
  41.  I loved Rubicon, but it was just to intelligent for most TV viewers that just want to be entertained but not have to think..which is why "reality" shows are so popular.

    ReplyDelete
  42. Firefly and Veronica Mars and coming in a close 3rd Moonlight.  Firefly and Moonlight were both just hitting their stride and VM looked very interesting with her going to the FBI.

    ReplyDelete
  43.  I liked LIfe also and Human Target.  Dang and I have already listed 3, this makes 5. LOL

    ReplyDelete
  44. Wow that was a pretty ignorant thing to say,and an insult to a lot of people.

    ReplyDelete
  45. I think it would have to be FarScape and Stargate sg-1.... a close third would be Northern Exposure.

    ReplyDelete
  46. Friends (but just for one "what-happend-to-them"-season) and Pushing Daisies

    ReplyDelete
  47. LOSTNerdBomber1 April 2012 at 07:05

Despite loving LOST's finale, I want it back. The history of the Island is massive. Many stories can be fabricated from it.

    ReplyDelete
  48. Buffy (we
still have another hellmouth in Cleveland) and Heroes (a good Syler? I'd love
to see that. He has a lot to make up for)

    ReplyDelete
  49.  Your not the only one... :(

    ReplyDelete
  50. Wow thanks Andy!!  :D

    ReplyDelete
  51. Everwood & Charmed, but also Nip Tuck, Jack & Jill, Life Unexpected, redo the ending of Dawson's Creek, Accidently on Purpose, Gary Unmarried, Bleep my Dad says.

    ReplyDelete
  52. Right. And also not at the cost of losing Timothy Olyphant on Raising Hope or Kim Dickens on Treme.

    ReplyDelete
  53.  Timothy O. is on Justified, since I don't watch Raising Hope, is he on that also??

    ReplyDelete
  54. I decided to only pick shows that were on for less than 5 seasons.
    Millennium and Dark Skies

    ReplyDelete
  55. I thought of another one The Invaders, obviously it would need a makeover but if done right it could do well!

    ReplyDelete
  56. Rubicon was an excellent show.  Although I keep forgetting the title.

    ReplyDelete
  57. Happy Town and FlashForward.

    Oh yeah, and ReBoot!

    ReplyDelete
  58. Awesome show-- wish it had more of a run as well.

    ReplyDelete
  59. I agree and don't think you're comment is "ignorant" at all.  I've heard about Rubicon but didn't watch-- everyone who watches the same stuff I do likes it, so I should probably try to get it on DVD (but if it is just going to end and leave me hanging maybe I won't).  And reality shows are mostly crap-- I will fully admit to watching the Amazing Race, but I know the drama is completely fake.  And the product placement is rampant and shameless.

    ReplyDelete
  60. I LOVE LOST but don't want it revived for the reasons you mentioned above.  And I don't think I want a reboot, either.  It was unique and I'm not sure how even the original creators could ever recapture the intensity  or "feel" of the original.

    ReplyDelete
  61.  I hated the show stopped, but it was worth the time spent and I would still watch even knowing how it ended, so go for it.  It reminded me a lot of 3 Days of the Condor movie with Robert Redford.

The ignorant comment did not bother me, just figured the truth hurt. lol

    ReplyDelete
  62. Thanks, I'll check it out.
