  1. I absolutely cannot wait for this!

  2. IDK, it can be a trainwreck the size of Frontierland - perfunctory story drowned in gimmicks. Let's hope they don't get so worked up about Dean walking Chicago that they forget to write an actual story.

  3. I think I saw Sam for a second there that was a treat

  4. seriously looks boring dont think I'll bother watching this one

  5. The history geek in me is absolutely squealing right now.. I can't WAIT for this!  Also, Dean looks gooood in the 40s.. :)

  6. This looks really good!! I can't wait for it!!

  7. If this is handled well, it could be a standout stand alone episode.  Here's hoping the writing is up to par because you know with Nicholas Lea there the guest acting won't be a problem.

    ReplyDelete
  8. Actually, I think that was just the moment Dean gets zapped back in time as Sam watches.

    ReplyDelete
  9. I'm really looking forward to this one. I like how they handle real history by giving it their own twist. I'm sure Nicholas Lea will be fantastic. (I'll admit to having a thing for Krycek -- even when he was bad!) And Dean with a Tommy-gun will be worth the price of admission. I'm also going to guess Ness has some kind of info that could help them with the Leviathan problem -- otherwise, why make him a hunter and why go back to the '40's at all. I'm interested to see how they tie it all in.

    ReplyDelete
  10. It will be a burn off episode if it doesn't tie into the Leviathans and they need to get some traction there.  Either that or the god of time needs to fix the Bobby situation.  I'm guessing Leviathans though and I am really good with that.  I'd like to see the Winchesters score a couple of big wins in the next couple of episodes even if they don't take down Dick until the end.  I love, love, love the idea of Nicholas Lea as Ness.  And hey, Jason Dohring isn't a bad place to start either.  I can honestly say he was the best thing about Moonlight, well his character anyway.  He may end up the only god I don't want them to take down.

  11. Yeah I'm not holding my breath.  It's like Sam's presence on the show just gets whittled down more and more with each ep.  And I'm still pissed as all hell that AGAIN, Dean gets to go galavanting off through time and space while Sam sits around twiddling his thumbs.  Dean's already had his turn at time travel, more than once - Sam deserves a time travel story!  Of course, that would mean actually giving him plot and POV, something they seem determined NOT to do this season.  This last ep was a perfect example - they pretty much just tied him up and stuck him out of the way so that they could explore all about how DEAN feels about Bobby's death, hunting, revenge, etc.  Sam is little more than pretty wallpaper this season (with bad hair).

    ReplyDelete
  12. Same.  I NEVER used to miss an ep.  But I'm so sick of the sole focus on Dean, and I'm so pissed that AGAIN he gets the time travel ep while Sam gets squat, that I think I'll pass.

    ReplyDelete
  13. Yup.  Apparently he's got a monopoly on going back in time.  I wonder why they even bother calling Sam a main character on this show anymore.

    ReplyDelete
  14. Yeah, it's too bad that it looks like a purely Dean-centric ep though.  It would be great to give Sam a chance to time travel for once.  But once again they're splitting the brothers up, and Sam gets made into plot-device wallpaper.  Considering the Dean-centric nature of this last ep, it's a little frustrating that Sam is getting sidelined AGAIN.  And that Dean gets ANOTHER time travel ep when Sam hasn't even gotten ONE solo time travel experience.

    ReplyDelete
  15. Well, so far from what I've heard is that is only going to become more reduced. The next two episodes are Dean-heavy from the spoilers and then I heard another rumor that episode 15 will also be Sam-lite, because Jared either wasn't filming or won't be filming for at least two days. That's just a rumor I read and of course that could mean nothing, but if it does that means that episode 12, 13, and 15 are Dean-heavy. Castiel returns in episode 17. And then the show enters into March which may be difficult to have Jared filming. But no one knows.

So, I don't think it would be wise for anyone to hold their breath for any type of Sam plot, POV, insight, or personality this season. Maybe it's the hair. Maybe if we cut his hair, Sam's personality and story comes back!! Okay, now we just need a plane ticket, a razor, and a ladder.

    ReplyDelete
  16. And Sam was the only "psychic" brother - visions, telekinesis, exorcism via hand... Your point being? Every brother has his own "things". So?

    ReplyDelete
  17. I dont even like time travel episodes. The stories are good, i laugh, i cry, i scream but I really dont need another one. Even though this show is all about supernatural stuff, time travelling is way over the top for me.

    ReplyDelete
  18. This season's Frontierland...great...*cough*

    ReplyDelete
  19. I can't understand why it couldn't have been Dean AND Sam going back in time.
Seeing both with the standard Eliot Ness look would have been better than one!
Both brothers with sten guns would have been better than one!

I don't know if it's going to be a comedy episode or not but nobody has greater on -screen chemistry than Jensen and Jared whether it be comedy, drama or angst.
Surely it wouldn't have beeen to difficult to keep them together for a whole episode and still give us an exciting story!

This show excelled for the close, understanding and intuitive relationship between the brothers, the difference in character of the two giving  rise to all the cute one-liners between them.
Even in the saddest moments they always managed to comfort one another.

If you take all that away, as they seem to be doing and continually send one north and the other south, separating them, the show will still be a great show, but it will no longer be Sam and Dean against the world, as it should be.

The only character that I would like to see back to lift the too heavy pall of depression that has settled over the show is Crowley, because his presence just perks everyone up!

    ReplyDelete
  20. I agree with everything you have said here. I love both brothers equally and I hate the discrimination of one at the expense of the other.
I don't know why the writers give Dean more to do than Sam and I would love to hear their take on it.

The part about Castiel taking over from Sam in the last episodes was exactly what I was thinking too, but if that was to be the case then shouldn't the writers have at least made the first half of the season Sam heavy, to compensate for the baby thing in the second half  and for his reduced ( even more ) screen time.
They could have explored all his hell problems and perhaps what happened with Adam too etc,.

However, I don't know how their filming schedule goes but I would think that most of the filming will be over by March anyway so there's no reason that Sam can't be present as usual.

    ReplyDelete
  21. Sam had powers sure so what? they were hardly prevelant and  Dean has had the heart of the show the focus the character exploration the pov the issues the burden of having to react to Sams problems. The parents , the surrogate father , the ar the guest stars .
So your point is Sam had powers so he is excluded from everything else. This show is Dean happy it is high on Dean it cant get over its need for Dean.It has destroyed the show and any sembalance to it being about two brothers .

    ReplyDelete
  22. Looks like another good episode!

    ReplyDelete
  23. Sam's psychic "thing" is ancient history now.  His current "thing" should have been a storyline around Lucifer/Hell, but that hasn't been developed.

    ReplyDelete
  24. yeah I heard that 15 is Dean centric too and Sam light. With Cas back in 17 and Jared most likely being highly unavailable in Feb/March I'd say Sam is done for the season. I would be pissed but I just dont care about the show anymore.

I just hope that someone from the show would come out and tell fans and actually give them the choice whether they want to stick around or not.

But I guess as long as Dean and Cas fans are happy or soon to be. Maybe now they'll get the show they want?

    ReplyDelete
  25. SO EXCITED!!!!!! I hope its another kick-ass episode, but if its not the best in the world, we still get Dean in the hot outfit <3

    ReplyDelete
  26. I never got why Sam has to hold down the fort in the present in these episodes, especially since he probably has a much better grasp on the ins and outs of any given time period, and would probably be able to blend better (well, except for his extreme height, I suppose)

    ReplyDelete
  27. I hope it has a little more substance than "oooooh, prettyyyy" but I suppose I'm not complaining haha.. we need a bit of a break from all the angst, and Dean does look gooood  :)

    ReplyDelete
  28. No, my point - which all who replied decided to completely disregard - was that Sam had his psychic powers and demons, Dean angels and stuff like time travel. Each has a thing that's HIS. And when both get to experience something, it leads to fans bickering about who suffered more or whatever, see their stay in hell.

I love both brothers so I don't care who the story is about as long as it's interesting and I don't get this bickering about which brother gets more attention. Dean!fans insist that Sera Gamble is a Sam!fan, Sam!fans complain about SPN being a Dean show. I've seen people counting it down to seconds of on-screen time. Nuts.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Michael and the angels were to Dean what Azazel and Lucifer were to Sam. Things like time travel and the Leviathans shouldn't "belong" to either of them. If we knew that Sam was getting an equally cool adventure as this, I don't think there would be as much complaining from Sam fans, but with a season that's been almost exclusively Dean centric so far, there's not a lot of reason to hope for balance.

    ReplyDelete
  30. Haters will hate ^^;

Some people are just way too invested. You just look at Heartland where 2 people keep splitting up and  coming back together for 5 years now, they're deleted a character that was almost in every eps for the first 4 seasons and everyone thinks ''its great''...you took sanctuary where they left last season on a big war cliffhanger and start the season with a HUGE letdown with a boring time travel with talking for 40 min. in the premiere...and everyone thinks its great too......or walking dead where they were cooking and doing laundry for half a season...its awesome too for people...the list go on

And now you go back to SPN and every details is the end of the world for people, where they think its behond awesome for any other shows even if the others shows are doing worse

  31. I do not subscribe to brother wars.  Last summer when "Dean fans" were riled up about a 3 sentence summary about The Girl Next Door, "Sam fans" rightly called them on making too big a deal about an episode that had not even aired.  I think the same thing is happening with this episode.  Until we see it, I would hope that Supernatural fans would not trash it.  Knowing the fandom, there will be plenty to complain about after it airs.  I also think that complaining about who gets what type of episode is silly.  Sam got the whole psychic kid plot and was more directly tied into the mythology of the show.  Each brother has their thing - Sam gets choked; Dean gets thrown.  In the end, the show is about 2 brothers.  It can never be about anything else.   It would not work without both brothers.  I'm sorry you feel Sam is getting shafted this season and in all honesty I wish that it was Sam time traveling this time, if only to end this particular line of grievance from the fans.  But no promo is ever going to keep me from watching Supernatural.  I started with this show from the night the pilot aired and I will be with it until they shut down production, sell the props, and everyone moves on.  And I am no longer going to let those who are unhappy suck the joy out of the show for me.  I am a Supernatural fan.  I am happy with season 7 overall.  I am not going to get caught up in the fandom's complaints and I'm going to stay positive while enjoying the Winchester brothers kick some Leviathan butt together.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Thank you. Finally a voice of reason.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Amen!  Now I have issues with Supernatural writers but there is no way they can win.  This fandom has always been divisive but it has gotten to the point of insanity lately.  No matter what the writers do, no matter what they story is, no matter which character does what, some part of the fandom is going to explode.  It seems to me that many are watching Supernatural to look for things to complain about or start wars about.  It gets tiring and it comes from all sides of the fandom, not just one.  It would be lovely if everyone could just take a step back and watch the episode without turning things into a diatribe on Sera or a minute-counting exercise.

    ReplyDelete
  34. No one's starting a war here. No one is bashing Dean or doing anything else likely to instigate a fight. They're criticizing a major trend in the writing, just like other people have stongly criticized the angel arc. Some people bash Sera (not myself), other people bash Dabb and Loflin. Strong opinions are always unpleasant to hear for people who have opposite views.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Ha!  You know how much I loathe Dabb and Loflin and yes that has been a major theme for me this year.  My problem is that we hear the same complaints over and over again every time an episode airs or a promo airs or a short summary of an episode is posted.  I get it (and quite frankly usually avoid it) after an episode has aired but it is getting way too depressing to always go through the same arguments from all sides before the episode even airs.  It seems that the fans of this show are stuck in constant negativity, sucking the joy out of the possibilities for future episodes.

    ReplyDelete
  36. But it's never about the writing, it's always complaining about Dean himself. I agree that the writers are neglecting Sam, but why do all the comments go on about hating Dean-centric episodes, not watching if it's about Dean etc. It is possible to complain about Sam's lack of story without dissing Dean, but that is not what the constant complaints do. The question is why the current writers can't write at the same time for both characters? Is it weak writing or deliberate for time off or other reasons?

    ReplyDelete
  37. Well, if it helps any, I was noticing that most of the comments on the babysitting episode thread don't seem to be split along Sam/Dean lines. Opinions varied, but there are no brother wars.

    ReplyDelete
  38. I don't visit a lot of Supernatural sites -  really just this one and Winchester Family Business - so I'm pretty ignorant as to what goes on elsewhere.  But I don't see much complaining about Dean, himself, on these boards.  There have been a few times this season that I've criticized Dean's comments or actions, but it wasn't a Sam vs. Dean thing, and it was about the action, not about Dean.  Overall, I like Dean.  I don't think I'd be watching Supernatural if I hated one of the lead characters.

I don't see complaining about the lack of a Sam storyline, or wanting more balance between the brothers, as dissing Dean.  I see the lack of Sam focus as a major writing flaw that can be hard to get past if you're more of a fan of Sam than Dean. I get sick of characters or stories that I think are overexposed, and I think Dean's character arc storyline this season has been overexposed.  If it was handled much more subtly, I'd probably love it.  I enjoyed the writing for Dean in earlier seasons, including the Dean/Cas relationship scenes at the end of last season.  But throwing this in my face every episode is just making me resent it - and start to avoid it.  I also don't think it's been written very well.  But again, what I want is balance.  I want a well-written storyline for both brothers, either individually or as a joint storyline in which both characters get equal focus.  What I'm hearing from most other Sam fans is the same thing - they want the balance back.

    ReplyDelete
  39. i agree with everthing too :(
but wait... what baby? did i miss a spoiler???

    ReplyDelete
  40. Thanks...

    ReplyDelete
  41. Agree, it seems that they are now being pencilled in once a season whether we need them for the over all story or not!

    ReplyDelete
  42. I think these gimmicky episodes are more to give them something to talk about during interviews - something to create some media buzz.

    ReplyDelete
  43. This looks AWESOME!!!! So in the Supernatural universe Eliot Ness was a hunter. I like that! :)
Robbie Thompson did a fantastic job with Slash Fiction, let's hope she can do the same here.

    LOVING Season 7!!!

    ReplyDelete
  44. No, the poster is referring to the baby Jensen and his wife are expecting in March I believe it is.

    ReplyDelete
  45. Okay, i'm not pointing any fingers here, but even if you do feel cheated or wronged by the writers, please sum it up in one comment. I'm sick of gavin to go throughout tons of negative comments about the uneven balance to find a few positive ones.

Anyways, I have mixed feelings on this episode. Hope to see more.

    ReplyDelete
  46. Good to know but I think I will still avoid it.  Whenever Supernatural threads are around 200 comments here, it usually means fandom in-fighting and a whole lot of negativity.

    ReplyDelete
  47. Ha!  Talk about an uneven balance.  :-)

    ReplyDelete
  48. Slash Fiction was definitely a high point for me this season.  Can't wait to see how this episode turns out.  I hope Dean goes back in time because Ness has some hidden info about Leviathans.  Heck maybe it was a hunter's library that was supposed to be in the Al Capone vault that ended up being empty.  It would be great sorta meta fun if Ness is the one who emptied it.

    ReplyDelete
  49. One comment per post or one comment ever?

If its one comment ever, this should apply to other gripes as well. If you don't want Cas back, and you've said it once, you're not allowed to say it again.

If you think the writing is off with certain writer(s), and you've said it once, you're not allowed to mention it again.

If you miss the impala, and you've said it once, you're not allowed to mention it again.

If you don't like Becky, and you've said it once, you're not allowed to mention it again.

If you think the tone is too depressing, and you've said it once, you're not allowed to say it again.

    You get the idea ...

    ReplyDelete
  50. One comment peer post.I don't expect someone to not respond when someone is bashing their views completely just because they've already stated their opinion.

    ReplyDelete
  51. I agree. I think some fans mistake wanting something more for Sam or Dean as something aimed at the opposite brother. It's like in order for one brother to have more it has to be taken from the other brother. And that's not at all what most fans with a favorite brother want. They want and believe there can be a balance between the two characters. Or at least other shows can maintain multiple characters without making fans question whether a character is being neglected. There will always be fans who are driven to  only have their favorite, but I do think the majority of fans like the idea of a balance and could enjoy despite having a favorite.

There is a serious problem with the writing right now. A major character without much focus is a problem. No hope in a series is an even bigger problem. Normally, I love the character of Dean, but this season I don't enjoy watching him. He is being focused on too much in a bad way. In almost every episode, we told in some form that Dean has it bad, that Sam has it bad, but Dean has it worse. Something is terrible wrong with Dean, but it goes nowhere. It wears your audience out. We know Dean has it bad, but they need to do something with instead of just telling me that he is headed for a breakdown. We have known that for seasons.

That lack of balance is hurting the show. No one wants to take away from either character, but I do think they want a direction change and balance. Stop exploring what is happening to Dean and do something and start exploring Sam.

    ReplyDelete
  52. LOL you're kidding right? We're Supernatural fans - once is NEVER enough :D

    ReplyDelete
  53. As evident with all the times the brothers have died :)

    ReplyDelete
  54. Dean at the end with the Tommy gun makes me really want to see it NOW! Dean looks gorgeous in his 1940s get up. Unfortunately I'll be in bum-eff no man's land fly over country and will have to miss it. I hope my phone works so I can at least read tweets.

    ReplyDelete
  55. Yes, Dean in a hot outfit - exactly! <3 Maybe Sam too? Just to give balance ;) or more eye candy.

    ReplyDelete
  56. For some reason "Love is a Battlefield" popped into my head after reading your comment. I have to agree though - the writers can't win. I noticed that this year the feel of the message boards has been bordering on hostility in trying to start a brother war...and if you go back throughout the years NOTHING changed in that.

So I'm just going to watch the show I love. Refuse to engage in the sibling war. And hope the writers pull out all the stops.

    ReplyDelete
  57. Thanks Cass, there's still fans with some sense here :)  I'm sick and tired of this too.....hard know what will happen before it aired. Sometime I'm getting tired of the shows because of the fans and their fights over everything and anything.

We could pleasantly surprise by what sam will do in the present with this ''old friend''...the only way to find out is by watching, not complaining and ''knowing what will happen'' -_-

    ReplyDelete
  58. If you want to know what Sam will do, how about watch before complaining? Me too I want sam to go back in time, me too i'm sad about that...me too i want to see more bros together...

but for all we know Sam could have more screentime that you think and have a more important role with this ''old friend'' that you know. But no one, except you who already saw the episode, know that 'til next week

    ReplyDelete
  59. People aren't saying they know everything that will happen.  They're reacting to what's been confirmed in promos - that Dean goes back to the '40s and meets up with Eliot Ness while Sam stays in the present.  Is it possible that Sam's meet up with an "old friend" will be equally exciting as time traveling and meeting a colorful historical figure? Possibly, but highly unlikely.

    ReplyDelete
  60. Read some comments, people KNOWS Sam will have only 2 minutes at the beginning and 3-4 at the end. They won't watch it cause they KNOW it will be like that

Go look at the title change for the 7x16, people KNOWS it will be the same cause they have 4 words to go on

    ReplyDelete
  61. unfortunately, poor Sam never gets much mileage out of the time travel episodes haha.. but hey.. dare to dream, right?

    ReplyDelete
  62. I dont know Sam possibly working with and really befriending Sherriff Mills is the only thing about this episode that sounds remotely interesting to me.

    ReplyDelete
  63. Not all Dean and Cas fans hate Sam. I love Cas/Dean and hope for some good angst between them, but I always miss Sam when he's gone

    ReplyDelete
  64. Love Nicholas Lea, really can not wait for this episode, looks awesome!

    ReplyDelete
  65. Yeah there have a whole list of things that Sam has had over the years..being psychic, having demon blood in him, neither of which Dean has ever had. Why is it such a major issue that Dean has the "time travelling" aspect to the series. Why is it a problem that Dean has things going on that are his alone, but when Sam has his character dramas that Dean hasn't any connection with then that's fine. Double standards much??

    ReplyDelete
  66. Mmkay.  There's enough ham and cheese in that promo to make a giant party platter.  Also, don't trust Eliot Ness.  It's really Alex Krycek.
