David Simon and HBO have come to an agreement : Treme will end after its fourth season, in 2013, as Simon said to the New Orleans Times-Picayune. The first two seasons garnered weak ratings but HBO has always been very supportive of David Simon when he worked on the low rated/best show ever The Wire (which also ended on its own terms), so it doesn't come as a surprise they support him in his decision to have two more seasons of Tremé and then that's it. Season 3 entered production this week and is likely to air in Spring 2012 on HBO, probably alongside the second season of Game of Thrones.

Well done on HBO's part. I think it's a fair and any show would love to have that deal.
ReplyDeleteWow! Two more seasons of terribly rated high art. I love HBO so much right now. I have yet to check Treme out, but critical response/David Simon's involvement say it all.
ReplyDeleteThat's really good news. There is certainly enough story to tell for a 4th season and setting an end date now gives the writers enough time to come up with a satisfying ending.
ReplyDeleteHBO doesn't seem to care about rating at all right now. Bored to Death & Enlightened have abysmal ratings and it looks likely that they will be renewed.
