Supernatural - Ultimate Episode (Round 2-1) - Poll

13 Aug 2011

With round 1 almost completed, we move on to round 2. Things are likely to get harder fast from this point on. By round 3 I suspect a hard match will be the norm and not the exception. Adding to episodes heading into round 2 are The French Mistake, Dark Side of the Moon, Point of No Return, Bad Day at Black Rock, Weekend at Bobby's, All Hell Breaks Loose part 1, Mommy Dearest (in the closest race yet), and What is and What Should Never Be. Good luck choosing in that next round.

  1. And we enter round 2.  Should be frustrating and interesting so I hope people comment a lot.  Only two give me trouble today although there are some episodes I will be sorry to see go.

My vote:  The End, Croatoan, My Heart Will Go On, Lazarus Rising, Changing Channels, ugh, wavering, and In My Time of Dying.
    Easiest vote:  Lazarus Rising.
Best thing about My Bloody Valentine vs Yellow Fever:  one of them will no longer be in the running.
Episode I voted for that I will miss most at the end of this round:  Croatoan.
Hardest vote:  by far In the Beginning vs Jus in Bello.  I'm wavering but I think Jus in Bello gets my vote in the end
Second hardest vote:  My Heart will Go On vs No Rest for the Wicked.  My Heart Will Go On had the better middle.  No Rest for the Wicked had the better ending.  It's hard.
Episode I didn't vote for I will also miss:  Tall Tales - a great episode but not to the standards of The End

  2. Hard, but i think i chose the right ones :D

  3. With every poll, the choices just get harder and harder

    ReplyDelete
  4. It wasn't easy to choose between The End and Tall Tales, loving both eps for cmpletely different reasons. So I'm not voting at all.

Croatoan. Swan Song left me dissapointed. I'm rarely a fan of last episoded.

Wasn't impressed with either. Not voting.

Those who read my comment in last round know that everything loses with Lazarus Rising.

Changing Channels. Watched it too many times and I still don't have enough of it.

    Yellow Fever.

Haven't seen In the Beginning for a looong time, so not voting here.

    In My Time of Dying.

  5. Like you, the hardest was Jus in Bello vs. In the Beginning, I really like them both, but I went with In the Beginning, I really liked seing John and Mary young, plus my favourite moment was when Dean said to his mother "Are you a hunter?". What??

    ReplyDelete
  6. -The End  I hated voting against Tall Tales and the Trickster but it doesn't hold up against The End.
    - Croatoan  It will lose to Swan Song I'm sure but I liked Sam being immune to a weirdo demon virus better than Sam going to Hell (go figure).
    - My Heart Will go On - It was fun and after And Then There Was None, I needed fun.  No Rest for the Wicked definitely had it's moments... Sam being immune to Lilith was a shock, but Dean being ripped apart by Hell hounds and going to Hell was a major downer.
    - Lazarus Rising  Dean comes back from Hell...  need I say more?
    - Changing Channels but I liked Frontier Land for the most part...until the ending.
    - Yellow Fever - I can't even watch most of My Bloody Valentine.  It evokes my gag reflex to often.
    - Jus in Bello I hated voting against In the Beginning because I liked learning the Winchester back story but I loved the action and cooperation in Jus in Bello. Urgh! This one was hard.
    - In My Time of Dying - Dean doesn't die but JW does :-)

  7. This was easier than I expected, given that it's the second round. I went for The End, Swan Song, My Heart Will Go On, Lazarus Rising, Changing Channels, My Bloody Valentine, Jus in Bello and In My Time of Dying. For me, the only really tough choice was between MHWGO and No Rest For the Wicked, they're both fantastic episodes which I love very much.

    ReplyDelete
  8. The most difficult choices in this one for me are:
Changing Channels/Frontierland and My Heart Will Go On/No Rest For the Wicked. I will have to come back to those.

    As for the others:
The End - and not just for double Deans. As I've said before, everything about this ep was great:
Writing, direction, lighting, editing, music, and of course the acting.

Croatoan - just because. I mean there's things I love about Swan Song - particularly the Impala role, but when it comes down to it I'd rather watch Croatoan.

Lazarus Rising - totally not a Chuck fan, although, as with every episode, there's lots to like. My favorite scene is in the laundromat:
Dean: "I’m sitting in a laundromat, reading about myself sitting in a laundromat reading about myself -–My head hurts."
    That whole scene was awesome.

Yellow Fever - close, because, apart from the couple eating each other, and the other gory scenes My Bloody Valentine certainly wasn't a bad episode by any means.

Jus In Bello - no contest - this is among my top episodes ever. Partly because it was what got me hooked on SPN, but also the episode itself was spectacular.

In My Time of Dying - also a brilliant epsiode. Plus I don't like angels much so The Song Remains the Same immediately loses points for that.

Like I said, I'll come back to the other two later - this post is long enough already :P

  9. There were definite pluses in both.  To make it harder, both of them are critical mytharc episodes.

    ReplyDelete
  10. It's interesting that you don't like the season finales.  Usually they are among people's favorite episodes of the season.  I agree that Changing Channels and Lazarus Rising are made of win.

    ReplyDelete
  11. BWAH!  Your last one made me laugh.  I completely agree.  I also will be bummed when Croatoan goes down to Swan Song.  Round 3 should be interesting in that bracket though.

    ReplyDelete
  12. Glad it was easier.  If my predictions are right, it will be The End vs Swan Song in round 3 and I expect that one to be very, very interesting.

    ReplyDelete
  13. Ooh, that will be interesting. I honestly don't know which of those I'd go for. I rewatched The End today (as I missed it last night) and I'd forgotten how amazing it is, but I did love Swan Song as well. Decisions, decisions!

    ReplyDelete
  14.  Here there are six easy choices and two difficult ones.

The End is an all out winner against Tall Tales-
Although I like the Trickster, alt universes and time travel win every time.

Croatoan gets it against Swan Song, an episode that I just cannot like although it  has nice flashbacks and the great "Impala Story"

    No Rest For The Wicked
It's all in the ending- -great Sam and Dean moment.

    Lazarus Rising-
Dean gets out of hell and we get the best Hug of all.
    Only low point is Ruby.

    Changing Channels
    It's just too good.
I also liked that Dean didn't leave Gabriel in the circle of fire but demonstrated that he is always the  better man by letting him out.

My Bloody Valentine- lets just say it's a guilty pleasure and anyway I just don't like the story-line in Yellow fever.

It's really difficult to choose between In The Beginning and Jus In Bello but I will go with the former because of the Winchester back story.

These two are difficult for me too,  but I will go with In My Time of Dying, as I loved it the first time I saw it

    ReplyDelete
  15. Yep, it's getting tough. Not super tough yet, but still.

    Easy picks:
The End - as much as I love the hilariousness of some Tall Tales moments (especially the "blah blah blah" scene), the episode has nothing on The End. Double Dean and the white suit Lucifer in Sam's body FTW!

Croatoan - one of my favourite season 2 episodes, definitely much more packed with action than Swan Song and I can't help the feeling that the brother moments in Croatoan looked much more sincere.

Lazarus Rising - as much as I love TMATEOTB, it was an easy choice, with Dean getting out of hell, the brothers reunion, the Dean/Impala reunion, Pamela and introduction of Cas.

Changing Channels - way more entertaining than Frontierland for me. Again, not a western fan here.

Jus in Bello & In My Time of Dying - In the Beginning & In the Beginning 2.0 have nothing on the awesomness of the two, which are definitely among my top of the top of the top of the show (PLEASE don't make them go against each other in the next round!)

    hard choice:
My Heart Will Go On over No Rest for the Wicked - both are really good, but neither is especially outstanding for me. I went for the awesomness of Balthazar (I.P.Freely, anyone?) and the overall interesting concept of the episode, with creating extra souls & slight differences in reality it caused.

    still not voted:
My Bloody Valentine vs Yellow Fever - I really don't know. I liked the Cupid and Cas's hunger and the gore, but Famine was disgusting. In YF, on the other hand, I love the funny Dean, but hate the way the defeated the ghost. I'm still gonna have to think about it.

    ReplyDelete
  16. Tall Tales  - It's funny, Trickster is in it, Bobby chews out the boys, and Cas isn't having orgies.

Swan Song  - The narration and overindulgent nostalgia almost made this ep. lose to Croatoan.

No Rest  - This BARELY won over the competition.  In the end, I couldn't go against Ruby.

Monster At The End  - I liked the subsequent season 4 eps. better than Lazarus Rising.

Frontierland  - Changing Channels had a goofy-ass plot and Trickster being a pious blowhard.

My Bloody Valentine - Yellow Fever was funny in spots but mostly a self-contained bore.

Jus in Bello  - Damn near perfect episode.  One of the only eps. left I'm glad to vote for.

Song Remains  - Just barely beats out IMTOD.  Tessa made it a close call.

    ReplyDelete
  17. I love that scene from TMATEOTB too! I love Dean's "guess what you do next" and the move Sam makes after that and Dean's happy face when he reads "Sam turned his back on Dean.." lol I swear Dean is like a kid sometimes

    ReplyDelete
  18. I hope people vote for The End. I really wanna get Swan Song eliminated already, we're loosing some amazing episodes because of it.

    ReplyDelete
  19. voted! my faves here are Lazarus rising and Yellow fever! :)

    ReplyDelete
  20. That wasn't so hard either...don't know what's up with me, but choosing didn't give me a headache.

Went for: The end, swan song, no rest for the wicked, Lazarus Rising, Frontierland (ok, that one was a little hard to choose), yellow fever, jus in bello, in my time of dying.

    ReplyDelete
  21. The End
    Croatoan
    No Rest for the Wicked
    Lazarus Rising
    Changing Channels
My Bloody Valentine (I absolutely hated Yellow Fever)
Could not decide between In the Beginning and Jus in Bello so I voted for In the Beginning because it's losing at the time
    In My Time of Dying

    ReplyDelete
  22. After seeing The End again last night, I have to say that I too am more and more impressed by this episode all-around (cast and crew) every time I see it.

    ReplyDelete
  23. He does have the sense of humor of a 9 year old :)
My friend Airbat found this vid - which is the funniest thing I've seen in a loooong time
    http://www.spnasylum.com/apps/videos/videos/show/14463900-supernatural-video-my-brother-an-essay-by-sam-winchester-aged-27-and-three-quarters-

    ReplyDelete
  24. I have to say that I am torn between the Lazarus Rising hug and the Like a Virgin hug.  I'm leaning a bit more toward the Like a Virgin hug because although Sam was there for the first part of 6, he wasn't really there.  That made the hug more poignant for me.

    ReplyDelete
  25. I think Croatoan and Swan Song were both poignant but Croatoan did tug at me more.  Maybe because I wasn't so used to the doom and gloom of Supernatural at that time.

I am sorry but the only way Jus in Bello and In My Time of Dying don't go against each other next round is if one of them is knocked off in this round.  Darn NCAA bracket placement!

    ReplyDelete
  26. While I disagree with almost every one of your choices, your comments make me laugh.  :-P

    ReplyDelete
  27. Little bit harder in a couple places, but maybe just one really.   The End, Swan Song, No Rest for the Wicked, Lazarus Rising, Frontierland, Yellow Fever, Jus in Bello, and In my Time of Dying.

Frontierland and Changing Channels are really tied for me.  I just love Dean in a cowboy outfit.  What can I say.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Except for one, all of today's polls I found really easy because ones I loved were up against ones I didn't love nearly as much
My only difficulty was the end vs tall tales because both were such great episodes for such different reasons
I ended up going with the end because even the trickster couldn't beat just how awesome the end was
My other votes went to: swan song, monster at the end of this book, In my time of dying, jus in bello, monster at the end of this book, changing channels, yellow fever and no rest for the wicked
It's funny, going through these polls, I realize how many episodes there are that I absolutely love!!

    ReplyDelete
  29. The End ( but difficult choice.  I really enjoyed Tall Tales.  But story
element wise I had to pick The End)
Swan Song (again difficult...who's picking these parings?  so difficult!  :-)
No Rest For The Wicked  (Loved Bobby and Ellen as a couple.  Did not like
actress playing Fate.  And really...this ep had me convince they
were going to find a way to save Dean (one of the series leads)  right
up until they didn't.  Guess where my backside was for S04E01?)
Monster at the End of the Book  (had to pick the dark horse here. :-)  and I just loved the ep.)
Changing Channels (had issues with Frontierland.  Just flat out enjoyed this one.)
    Yellow Fever  (that teeny dog!)
Jus in Bello  (one of my favorite episodes.  Great to see Henrickson. Really want the
rumors of is death to be greatly exaggerated.  I think he'd be a great hunter.)
In My Time of Dying ( admittedly this was primarily a vote against the Song Remains the Same)

    ReplyDelete
  30. So hard to decide because I love each of these episodes for their own reason . very hard decisions this round

    ReplyDelete
  31. I like season finale when I like the episode. Swan Song is an episode you either love or hate. In my opinion, it was overpacked. Too many things happend in it.
I'm having a love/hate relationship with finales in every show. They want to make them big but sometimes they're too big! With Swan Song I felt like I was watching whole season packed in one episode. Didn't like that.

    ReplyDelete
  32. bummer, then it's gonna be a very hard choice between the two!

    ReplyDelete
  33. The End, Swan Song, No Rest For The Wicked, Lazarus Rising, Changing Channels, Yellow Fever, Jus In Bello, In My Time Of Dying

    ReplyDelete
  34. The Lazarus Rising hug is great until the moment they part and there's like two meters between them and they just stand there staring at each other waiting for Genevieve to say her line.

    ReplyDelete
  35.  Well the fact that there is no Ruby to witness the "Like a Vigin hug" definitely adds bonus points to it, as she would surely win my poll for worst villain!
    regards.

    ReplyDelete
  36. Tall Tales, Croatoan, No Rest For The Wicked, Lazarus Rising, Changing Channels, Yellow Fever, In The Beginning, and The Song Remains The Same. As for which round was the hardest, it was def Changing Channels vs. Frontierland. Both were hilariously awesome, but Changing Channels was better

    ReplyDelete
  37. Voting for the one that is losing is not a bad strategy.  It certainly makes voting easier.

    ReplyDelete
  38. :-)  I'm glad this poll didn't leave you in pain.  That's not the goal.

    ReplyDelete
  39. I flat out enjoyed Changing Channels too.  It's one of those episodes that never get old.

As for how episodes are paired, from round 2 on out whatever episode wins goes against the next winner and so on.  Therefore, if The End and Swan Song win they go against each other next time, and so on down the line in pairs.  It makes creating the polls a no brainer but boy are some of the choices difficult down the road.  I'm going to be crying in round 3.  :-)

    ReplyDelete
  40. It's funny that you say that Swan Song was too packed with action because I happen to know that Dahne's opinion of it is that not enough happened and it was boring.

Yep. Dahne thought it was BORING. :/

    ReplyDelete
  41. i love "changing channels"!!! although i don't have an all out favorite... i love them all, changing channels was great, creative, funny, sad!

    ReplyDelete
  42. At least it wasn't a total waste to read then.  ;)

    ReplyDelete
  43. Love them all, but my choices are:
    The End > Tall Tales
    Swan Song > Croatoan
No Rest For The Wicked > My Heart Will Go On
Lazarus Rising > The Monster At The End of This Book
    Frontierland > Changing Channels
Yellow Fever > My Bloody Valentine
Jus In Bello > In The Beginning
In My Time Of Dying > The Song Remains The Same

    ReplyDelete
  44. Wierdly enough these were rather easy decisions for me... Oh well..

    ReplyDelete
  45. I can't remember if it was action it was packed with, lol. I think we're both right. Even though a lot is going on it doesn't mean it has to be exciting ;)

    ReplyDelete
  46. The End – heads above TT - though the episode is “good” it’s my “least
    favorite” Trickster/Gabriel episode

Swan Song  - SS is my
current favorite episode, with Mystery Spot a very close second, though I love
Croatoan, too, but not as much as SS or MS

NRFTW – though I like MHWGO, too, especially the boys’
antics during the “Blondie” song, I think “NR” is a slightly stronger episode
though it’s in on the lower end of my favorite finales

TMATEOTB – Lazarus Rising is one of my least favorite season
    premieres and I like "Monster"

Changing Channels – this was my hardest choice this round
because both episodes have their fantastic moments and both had small areas I
    disliked

MBV – Yellow Fever, while amusing and colorful, had too many
“ghost logic” moments for me and I love struggling “Dark Sam”

Jus in Bello – it’s far from my favorite episode but I
dislike any episode where if blink you’ll miss Sam, I don’t care how much
    insight Dean received

IMTOD – to be honest this choice was entirely random – I like
both episodes close to equally; if TSRTS was the first “radio button”  I’d probably clicked on that

    ReplyDelete
  47. that's exactly what I wanted to say - yes, Swan Song is packed, but definitely not with action :P

    ReplyDelete
  48. I agree with all your episode choices and reasons cept the last two reasons. Jus In Bello is great as it has just the right amount of everything that makes a great SPN episode and In My Time of Dying was one of the best season openers. In fact I tend to really dislike most of the season openers. The Pilot is good of course. IMTOD is probably the best one. The Magnificent Seven sucked. Lazarus Rising was ok I guess it was good to see Dean back and the introduction of Cas was fun. Sympathy for the Devil was decent and Exile on Main Street was really eh, I could almost say I hated it the first time around but on subsequent viewings it's not as horrible.

    ReplyDelete
  49. I agree with all of yours, Jilly. As for the other two: Frontierland (I have a strange love of westerns -- and Dean's joy was just too fun to ignore.) and No Rest for the Wicked. My Heart will Go On was okay, but certainly not a classic.

    ReplyDelete
  50. I actually liked Swan Song as a poignant, sweet episode the first time I saw it.  It was only after repeated viewing that I found it a bore.  And there is little action in Swan Song but it is packed with nostalgia.

    ReplyDelete
  51. Dean in a cowboy outfit did nothing for me.  But Dean all giddy about westerns while Sam was eye rolling had me in giggles.  I loved that part of it.

    ReplyDelete
  52. For me it's been nice remembering episodes I tend to forget and appreciating some other ones after seeing them through others' eyes.

    ReplyDelete
  53. If Frontierland had a different ending, it would have been harder for me.  Changing Channels and Mystery Spot are my favorite funny episodes and it takes a lot for me to vote against them.

    ReplyDelete
  54. Changing Channels is a perfect example of Supernatural's depth.  The first half is practically perfect as a funny episode.  The second half had twists one after another and really sold the mytharc advancement.  In some ways the episode has multiple personality syndrome, but it fit together seamlessly.

    ReplyDelete
  55. Things get harder for me in the second half of round 2, but it's pulling out my hair time when we get to the third round.

    ReplyDelete
  56. Haha yeah, round 3 will probably be brutal!
