Well?..... I'm kind of at a crossroads whether or not to keep on watching.... I had heard of Torchwood before and watched a handful of eps from S1, and they were ok, but i just couldn't get into it and gave it up. I then had heard how good COE was supposed to be and I got curious and rented it. COE was much better, with good tense action and decent performances despite some clunky writing and mediocre sfx (prob due to a small budget which I can overlook). I decided to watch MD based off of COE, and it started off well enough, but the last 3 eps have gone off the rails with bad, over the top performances, questionable editing/directing: the scenes where Ester/Rex talk about their relatives/knowing someone in LA to them confronting them just felt random, out of place and didn't really offer anything to the story, as did the Jack obsessing with Oswald Danes (what's up with that, doesn't make any sense), the out of nowhere romance of Rex/Dr Juarez... The production quality looks great, and Gwen's performance has been the best part of the series, but the scenarios and other acting performances: Jilly K, the over the top PR drone with her love/hate realtionship with her charge, Oswald Danes, and don't get me started on Marc Vann as the San Pedro camp administator and his soldier stooge/cohort... really over the top bad... and way too many things have me rolling my eyes because they are so unbelievably bad: for a group that is trying to stay under the radar from whoever is powerful enough to have some control of the CIA (and other investigatory agencies I'm guessing), these guys really love to make themselves standout by using their real names and no aliases, and Jack runs around in a very noticable long coat with bright red suspenders AND a belt with an old fashioned holster everywhere he goes... yes, I get that it's his iconic look, but it's unrealistic for someone who's trying not to be noticed. There are many other things that really have me scratching my head and rolling my eyes, so I'm looking for anyone out there who might be a longtime TW fan/watcher on whether or to keep on viewing after 6 eps in... have the other past seasons (longer than 5 eps) flow like this and then tie up nicely, justifying the stuff in the middle? Or is MD as bad as I kinda think it is?..... I hate to give up on something, but if that time is better served finishing off Six feet under/Dexter which are next on my to do list, I'd appreciate any opinions.
I'm a Torchwood fan from the moment I discovered it. I'm kind of bummed because a show I watched right away I no longer feel the need to rush and watch. My knee jerk reaction is Starz should have stayed out of it.
The pacing has seemed off from the second episode. It's felt like they were told to stretch a 6 or 8 episode story to 10 episodes so they vamped for a few eps and the intensity of the story has, in my opinion suffered for it.
I'm going to keep watching...but I think it's more because I'm so invested in the characters. I was on board with this one story over a number of ep ideas, it worked so well with Children of the Earth and I'd expected it to work as well for this story.
I'm going to give Gwen a little leeway because her family is in trouble so she's probably not thinking straight. That being said, it's annoying how she repeatedly goes back to the "blame Jack" well almost every time things go awry. Sometimes, things just are what they are.
Especially because - let's face it. Gwen's life was mundane before Jack entered into it. Ever since then she has craved the excitement, danger and intrigue.
Completely agree. I love Jack's iconic look, but it hardly makes for good camouflage.
The last two episodes with the death camp stuff have been the worst episodes of this series by far.
Torchwood works best as a unit either working as one or as 2 factions playing off each other.I thought it would grow into that after a few "getting to know you" episodes, but it's actually gone the other route. Everyone is doing their own thing and it makes for an inferior product in my eyes.
To be fair it's looking more and more like it is Jack's fault, as it has been in the past. And in the past she has been spot on the money...Jack handing over the children in the past (CoE).
When you have been alive as long as Jack has, and had as few morals as he did at certain points, it's no surprise that things come back to haunt him.
NOTE: Name-calling, personal attacks, spamming, excessive self-promotion, condescending pomposity, general assiness, racism, sexism, any-other-ism, homophobia, acrophobia, and destructive (versus constructive) criticism will get you BANNED from the party.

This is more like it. Looks much more like series 1-3.
ReplyDeleteDid I miss something? The UK are only up to episode 5, how is there an episode 7 promo? (not complaining, just curious)
ReplyDeleteIt really looks like a CoE rehash.
ReplyDeleteThe US aired episode 6 on Friday night, so the preview is right on schedule for us.
ReplyDeleteSo screwy that they have the UK 6 days behind....

No, I meant because it says the UK promo on the title.
ReplyDeleteIt's from an Australian channel not a brit one :)
ReplyDeleteso uktv, is an austrailian channel .. lol,

ReplyDeleteNo need to apologise, was half asleep myself when I read/posted earlier, and thought I'd missed a week lol
ReplyDeleteSame here. I'd like to see her drop that attitude once and for all. We've all seen it, she thrives on the danger etc.

Ahh ok.. I missed that part.
ReplyDeleteAt least you got the series correct....
ReplyDeleteI posted some Covert Affairs photos under White Collar last month in the middle of a battle with insomnia...
Jack knows that, and I hope that he says something to her, because seriously, I don't think she could kill him, not after everything.
ReplyDeletethe exact feeling I got to and it has me very excited

As long as Gwen keeps making the choice to go back to Torchwood there's very little she can actually blame Jack for.
