I think that for NBC ratings will play a huge part in renewing or cancelling of shows
ReplyDeleteFor EVERY network, ratings are what determines the renewal or cancellation of shows.
ReplyDeleteTrue!
ReplyDeleteAlthough for each network there is a different standard of ratings which they use to determine what gets renewed or not. Take the CW for example-- their ratings are dismal compared to the other networks so they go by the demos instead when renewing shows.
In NBC's case-- I think that how each show performs in terms of ratings will play a huge part because they need a huge hit since lately they haven't had success with that. More than the other shows...
just my opinion
Well i think and i hope that Up all night and Awake loved by critics will be renewed. Smashj after the voice post Super bowl, will certainly have great ratings.
ReplyDeleteI hope PH too will have a 4th season
Critics' love doesn't mean anything. For example Kings was critically acclaimed, was an awesome show and pulled early. Same thing with Lone Star last year.
ReplyDeleteAwake looks interesting, but I'm afraid it will be pulled early, pretty sure it'll be cancelled. Don't remember what Up All Night was about...
It was with Christina Applegate and Will Arnett having a new baby.
ReplyDeletefor the new shows Im keeping my hops up with Grimm, Prime Suspects and Awake. The rest can go away, but I might still be surprised by some of the new additions. I think that 30 Rock and The Office is coming to an end, because 30 became boring..and the change of the boss in The Office might not be a good choice for the show.
ReplyDeleteI just hope that Community and Awake will survive this season.
ReplyDeleteI would like to see Awake, Up All Night and Grimm survive the first season.
ReplyDeleteAwake and PS are both procedural. The first one is also loved by critics, usually procedurals work well. I hope nbc promote Awake well and put it in a easy time slot.
ReplyDeleteSmash for me is a sure thing. It will have a big premierè due to his lead in, the show seems a solid one from the reviews, with the glee effect, will be a success.
Cancelled Series:
ReplyDeleteAwake
Bent
Free Agents
Parenthood
Freshman Renewals:
Up All Night
Prime Suspect
Smash
Pulled Early:
Are You There Vodka
Grimm
Playboy Club
My guess is one of The sitcoms will make it, but none sound good to me honestly. I lean towards Up All Night
I also think it's a race to see who is pulled first Grimm, Playboy Club or Vodka.
seems NBC is not my tv! I only know these:
ReplyDeletecancelled:30 Rock (not sure...)
renewed: Community
NBC is at a crossroad this season : Chuck's final season is coming up, The Office will have to do without Steve Carell, Law & Order SVU without Chris Meloni, Alec Baldwin says he'll stop 30 Rock at season 6 = basically, all their elder shows are in a tough position.
ReplyDeleteOf course I want Awake, The Playboy Club and such ambitious new dramas to be successful but ambition is not necessarily rewarded on network TV, it's sadly quite the opposite actually. NBC has plenty of new shows that seem great (except Whitney, Bent & Vodka) but sadly few of them will succeed imo.
Renewed :
- L&O SVU : CSI + no Chris Meloni will hurt this show, but it is a rare species (a successful NBC drama).
- Harry's Law : They'll draw the old people who don't watch American Idol, it'll get a third season.
- Parenthood : NBC will want to have a returning non-procedural drama on the air since Chuck will end.
- The Office : The supporting cast is strong enough for people to watch even without Michael Scott.
- 30 Rock : NBC would never cancel the Emmy factory but the main actors may want out, so...
- Community : You may say I'm a dreamer but I want to believe NBC will stick behind the show for a 4th season if nothing but for the fact that Jeff said in season 1 he'll get his lawyer licence back after 4 years in college.
- Parks & Recreation : Like Community, P&R will have a very hard time but it's becoming a critics darling and if it gets Emmys anything is possible and NBC may support the show even despite its low ratings.
- Smash : Perfect combo with The Voice, Superbowl effect, Steven Spielberg : I don't think it will fail.
- Prime Suspect : I don't know why but I think it'll be successful despite the lack of descent lead-in.
Cancelled :
- Chuck : The show is ending in February 2012.
- Awake : I want this show to be a hit so badly but I don't think it's realistic to think it'll get a 2nd season.
- Up All Night : The ratings won't be as bad as Free Agents', so the whole season will air at least.
- Grimm : Against Fringe and SPN, this fantasy show doesn't stand a chance but the whole season will air.
- The Firm : They committed to do a single 22 episode season I think, they're not planning on a 2nd season.
Pulled early :
- Whitney : I give this show 2 episodes before a repeat of The Office takes over, and righfully so.
- Bent : It won't even air, or else in summer, like Friends with Benefits now.
- Are You There Voldka? : Summer 2012, here we come.
- Free Agents : It seems fun but I don't think people will watch it on Wednesdays at 8:30pm.
- The Playboy Club : I want this show to be successful but the audience will fade away quickly I think.
Grimm is a goner like some people have already said its up against too many sci-fi/fantasy shows, I don't know what possessed NBC to put it on a Friday against Fringe and SPN. I really hope Awake does well but its so hard to tell what shows will succeed or not
ReplyDeleteNBC needs to have some hits last couple of years have been awful in terms of new shows for the network but really most of these shows don't sound that great. Smash needs to be the big hit they are hoping for otherwise I think they are going to have no idea where to go next pilot season.
Like many of you have said on here, The Playboy Club will be pulled early. And I must have to agree. Although I myself am rooting for the show as well, I can see it fading away real quickly.
ReplyDeleteFor the sitcoms, I think Up All Night has the biggest chance of surviving, and I am also rooting for Smash. I really hope that show does well, because based on the preview clips I've seen the show actually looks really good.
Oh, NBC. It's adorable how hard you try. You still suck though.
ReplyDeleteCanceled:
Awake
Are You There, Vodka?
Bent
Grimm
Parenthood
Prime Suspect
Pulled Early:
The Playboy Club
Free Agents
Freshman Renewals:
Smash
Up All Night
(I really want Bent to succeed but I highly doubt people will watch it.)
I read a report by TV by the Numbers that showed that the CW looks more at overall network target demo numbers (18-49 both genders) than their key demo numbers (young women) too. Basically, the CW is the same as other networks. They just have really lower numbers to look at all across the board. It's a good thing they do overall targets like the others because Supernatural and Smallville would have been the first shows cut if they were only looking at their specific demo numbers.
ReplyDeleteI'm always on edge when it comes to Community. I know it's a pipe dream that more people will tune into it and the ratings will rise, but it would be nice to not have to sweat its future.
ReplyDeleteMy money is on Grimm being pulled first but it is on Friday so that might save it.
ReplyDeleteDahne,
ReplyDeleteThanks for the explanation :)
I agree with most here that it looks like it will be another tough year for the Peacock network. I'm pulling for Awake to make it as it really looks interesting, but think that although it seems like it'd be better suited for cable. With the inital buzz and opening slot behind the Voice and the SB, Smash will more than likely make it for another 10-13 ep second season. After the initial sneaks of Grimm and Up all night, I had no desire to check them out, but subsequeat peeks got me interested and I think that Up all Night has a chance becaue we all could use more Wil Arnett, but even though I'm more interested in Grimm now, going up against 2 of my faves: SPN and Fringe, looks to be nothing more than an exercise in futility. It looks like the sfx budget may not justify the ratings a Fri night slot for NBC. The Playboy Club has some appeal to me, but since it's (I think) going up against H50 and another fave of mine, Castle, I think that it will be an early pull.
ReplyDeleteI think this might be The Office's last season. NBC will want to keep it, but I think the actors want to move on. A lot of them expressed reluctance to do the show without Steve last year.
ReplyDeletemy vote is for chuck is going to me renewed
ReplyDeleteanything can happen if chuck makes this season rock than I am sure there is hope to be renewed
