Desperate Housewives premiered on ABC on October 3rd, 2004. It debuted the same year that Lost, Veronica Mars, Joey, and CSI: NY did. However, of the many shows that premiered in 2004, Desperate Housewives and CSI: NY are the only ones left. That will all change in May 2012 when Desperate Housewives goes off the air.
The show followed the lives of Susan Mayer (now Delfino), Bree van de Kamp, Edie Britt, Gabrielle Solis, and Lynette Scavo. Why their neighbor - Mary Alice Young - committed suicide - is the mystery of the first season. The mysteries continued over the seasons, the characters evolved and went through several changes during the seven years that the show's been on.
I myself didn't start watching the show regularly until the fourth season finale "Free". The time jump intrigued me. At that point, I had only watched a few episodes - "Bang", for one, in which the supermarket is taken hostage. I feel the time jump was a good move, although others disagree.
I freely admit I was getting bored and ready to give up the show during season seven. But I decided to give the show another shot, and the season finale brought me back. I love this show, and I can't give it up.
It's good that the show is ending in May - Eight seasons are enough and it's time to end it. However, it doesn't stop me from feeling sad about losing it. I'm going to miss watching this show on Sunday nights. What will ABC replace it with in September 2012?
I've cheered on Karl and Bree's relationship, gotten angry at Orson and sad when Karl was killed off for no apparent reason since Kyle left at the end of that season anyway. They could have just killed off Orsin in the plane crash and let Karl and Bree continue their relationship. I cried when Tom and Lynette broke up, felt sad for them when she miscarried one of the twins. I worried about Susan and MJ when Dave went after them.

1) I desperately want Tom and Lynette back together some time during season eight, and it better not be the series finale. And that's pretty much it.

ReplyDeleteThis season HAS to be the best. I too want to see Mary Alice more, maybe a bit of Katherine, definitely Edie (although thats not probable), i wanna see Rex, Orson, Paul, even George. And i can't wait to see how they're gonna cover up what they did in the finale. This season really has to be the best one.

ReplyDeleteTom's daughter, crazy (kara? klara?). I've been waiting years for her to return since the time jump. Last season now more than ever, in fact it could play straight into Tom + lynettes story this year, Tom startsmeeting a younger woman, lynn gets jealous, finds out its actually his grown up daughter...
ReplyDeleteI want Tom and Lynette back, but after some drama of course. As for the rest, I think it's going to be interesting watching the 4 of them trying to hide the murder of Gaby's stepfather (if they write it well). Also I would love to watch some good mystery this season (we haven't had a decent one since Katherine in season 4). As for the finale, something shocking and epic of course (crossing fingers for Mary Alice)

ReplyDeletewell one thing i will say first is as i am going into my senior year of high school my beloved main 4 shows i have watched since i grew out of the life of watching Disney and Nickelodeon were Smallville, Stargate (atlantis and sg-1), Desperate Housewives, Supernatural, and lastly Castle. Smallville was my favorite and sadly ended this year, and stargates both ended a few years back sadly. Now desperate housewives is ending and all i have left is supernatural (which hopefully will stay alive for another 2 seasons or show. Castle also i count. The only thing i hope for the final season is they not waste any episode and bring fun people from the past back!
