Do I think Lea should have been nominated for an Emmy?

Of course! But I'll stick by my idea that has never changed and that is for every series I have watched, the 3rd season of ANY series (minus OC and Gilmore Girls) has always been the BEST. Look at Buffy, Smallville, One Tree Hill, Parks and Rec...the list is endless. I think that Season 3 of Glee is going to blow the first two seasons out of the water. I truly believe that.

This show is so heavily based on the writing, and although the Emmy's are meant to honour those acting, the truth is if the writing isn't there than the acting just won't hold up, which is clearly obvious in both Lea Michele and Naya Rivera's Emmy Snubs. Both Lea and Naya have showcased how to both be HIGHlarious and Heartbreaking with the material given, more so Naya (this season). By episode 10 of this season everyone was already over Rachel pinning over Finn. The absolute confidence in her talent and stardom were constantly questioned by herself and her fellow Glee clubbers.

The truth? No one wants to see Lea/Rachel acting like she isn't good enough, because we all know she is. The point of her character is that, although she is obnoxious and wants things to much-she earns it because her talent out shines everyone's around her. During the first season when she says to Finn, "You're talented, I would know I'm talented too" It was never said out of cockiness but absolute confidence and willingness to fight to show that it was true. That fight disappeared much to quickly this season.

I think somewhere along the way the writers forgot about that and let her storyline fall to wayside as they focused on Kurt and his being gay storyline (that although was done beauttifully-was addressed in great length last season).

My biggest fear for Lea is that she will become the Courtney Cox of Friends. One of the funniest characters part of an already incredable ensamble to never get recgonized for her talent. I fear that this same thing will happen to Lea, and even if Season 3 is her best season i don't feel she will get the recognition she deserves, which is an Emmy and Golden Globe win.

Its not just simply about winning, its about being recognized that SHE should Win and that if she does ever Win it will be deserved.

Like the show, Lea has been represented as an underdog, whether it be her looks or her uniqueness-she has always been pegged as the underdog. And in the beginning maybe-but now? No, never-her talent alone puts her above all the young actress out there, her singing pushes her over the edge of the MANY talentless singers in this business now. Lea is set to achieve greatness, which she will whether it be TV, Film or Broadway-you can't keep someone like Lea Michele from singing her song

  1. I agree with you. I don't even think as the Emmy's as talent, but more as a clique. It's who you know, not what you know. Sometimes they get it right, but rarely.

  2. Yeah, i do like understand why people like Glee. But the show have nothing to do in the Emmy`s. They belong to Golden Globe or something, not something like the Emmy`s. I must say i really now see TCA as an better award show when it comes to tv. Walton Goggins finally now getting an Emmy-nod is just stupid after nothing from his last season on The Shield.

  3. I watch Glee and like Rachel/Lea but the show didn't deserve or her didn't deserve to be nominated for best comedy or lead actress this season. Season two was really not that good. Also while Chris did a good job of the stuff he was given I personally wouldn't have given him a nomination over Nick Offerman, Chris Pratt, Danny Pudi, or Donald Glover.

  4. Loads of people have this exact approach and I never quite understand it, I mean her character may be awful, but she plays the part well, no?

  5. Is she good yes. Is she the best lead actress in a comedy? No.

I think the character just doesn't give her a chance since aside from the singing (which I think she could easily win for.. and has) I think many actresses good do  an equally good job. The role doesn't show her talent. No subtlety, nothing unexpected.

She may very well be one of the more talented actresses on TV  (without doubt is one of the more talented singer/actresses on TV or Broadway), but the role does not let her show her acting chops at all.

  6. This is up there with Jim Parsons on Big Bang.  May be you shouldn't get nominated when you're just playing yourself.  Perhaps Lea is just a little too much like Rachel.

  7. I think she's too histrionic... now you'll say that it's  her character... but I don't think so... :/ btw, I think she doesn't deserve a nomination. I like Naya more than Lea, and I think Naya doesn't deserve a nomination, so... Lea, NO! xD

  8. Agreed. Too over the top and obvious in her choices. No subtlety at all!

One can be a good actor by making the obvious choices and doing it very well, but to be a great actor one needs to make unexpected and nuanced choices in their portrayals. Just how I see it.

  9. There are ALOT of people who should have absolutly been nominated this year and the actress in comedy, i think personally, is the toughest category. Look at Courtney Cox ten years and no win? Kaley Cuco who is beyond hilarious. There's just so many out there to be considered.

I think where Comedy has its biggest downfall is how ones acting is precevied. Look at Chris Colfer-amazing job this season-but was any of his storyline even remotely funny? No not at all-it was truthful and heartbreaking-but he's nominated in the Comedy Category. Its the same issue with Naya she is hilarious as Santana-but this season people connected with her through her real deep emotions with Brittany.

I think thats the flaw in award shows that address best in Comedy.

I however stand by Lea and her deserving the nomination and her getting a win. Same as Naya and Chris this cast is so ridiculously talented and i'm glad it gets acknowledged.

  10. No. I'm glad she wasn't nominated.

  11. Well, look at this nomination list for best lead actress:

Laura Linney as Cathy Jamison The Big C - absolutely agree,

Edie Falco as Jackie Peyton Nurse Jackie - absolutely agree,

Amy Poehler as Leslie Knope Parks And Recreation - ohh, I dont like her, but agree with nomination,

Melissa McCarthy as Molly Flynn Mike & Molly - I like the show and she's very good actress.. but nomination? really? I dont get it. Seriously.

Martha Plimpton as Virginia Chance Raising Hope - well, I dont agree with the fact that she is nominated. Show is funny but its cast is plastic.. a bit. So don't get this nomination.

Tina Fey as Liz Lemon 30 Rock - no questions. She will be nominated every season untill she'll retire.

And what we have? There are two undeserved nominations in the list. And I really think Lea is one of actresses who could replace Melissa and Martha in the list. Sometimes she's acting beyond amazing, sometimes not so much. But Rachel is a character who always makes you feel something: hate for her or love for her.
So yes, I do think Lea should have been nominated for an Emmy this year. She does not deserve the winning though. Also I think Toni Collette (United States of Tara) or probably Courtney Cox deserve nominations too.

  12. I would take Martha Plimpton in Raising Hope over everyone.  Mostly because her character always makes me laugh.

  13. I laugh at her character too. It's mostly because of GREAT script I think. I mean She is good actress, best actress in the cast.
    But Emmy? Come on.

  14. I agree with you, Naya is better, but on the other hand, I really think that her character is worse than she is, if you catch my drift. If you were to read on paper the character, I think you may actually blow your brains out, and although some of the time I think she may not be the best, she acts well enough that I at least have some (some really isn't the right word, maybe 'the smallest bit' is better) of sympathy for her.

  15. I think I get what you say, loving her character because of the way she portrays it! I agree with that too. :)

  16. nay she wont be like Cox. It's not like she is gonna be 10 season in glee this one could be her last, she already have a movie coming out. She's good :P haha

  17. Ahaha yeah but you cant nominate Chris or naya ... for drama if the show is "a comedy" (which i dont think it is now) anyway cut Sue and its a signing degrassi
