Well, that was a depressing interview. It was disheartening to hear that the writers don't believe the House character can grow and that he will remain one dimensional. House back on vicodin ... I think I will have to pass.
A character doesn't have to change permanently to have dimension. Very flat boring characters with little depth of personality can grow. Conversely, a character's complexity can be shown through internal/external conflict, range of emotion, opinion, various situations... without growth ever entering into it. That's not to say House has never shown any growth, but his attempts at change just haven't lasted very long, kind of like most people.
Wish DS and these folks would stop talking about how they "exhausted all possibilities" for House and Cuddy--they never even called each other by their first names. If the writers knew H/C wasn't going to last they could have at least made the relationship more satisfying.
All relationships have their ups and downs. The lasting ones find a way to work through it. That's where the Huddy story should have gone. It would have been much more interesting than gimmicks we got in place of story this week.
I always knew that having a heart-broken-beacuse-he-really-did-fall-in-love House (most likely on Vicodin) would be too good for the writers to pass up. The possibilities of what they can do to the character now are endless. He's not only a**hole House but he is a*hole House after actually trying and being happy and losing. That kind of misery I always knew would be way too tempting for the writers of this show to pass up. I tried to enjoy House and Cuddy the best I could always knowing the end was looming somewhere in the near the future. What I did not enjoy about the interview is that they talk like it really is the end and there's just no hope whatsoever for these two characters who obviously love each other to be together again. I think that they could have another chance, probably at series' end, and that House really wants it to work and it's willing to do more than he is given credit for.
NOTE: Name-calling, personal attacks, spamming, excessive self-promotion, condescending pomposity, general assiness, racism, sexism, any-other-ism, homophobia, acrophobia, and destructive (versus constructive) criticism will get you BANNED from the party.

ReplyDeleteWell, it seems to be over. I'm not sure Greg tried hard enough and his girlfriend wasn't ready to take him like he realy was. She lied too.
ReplyDelete"The fans will be disappointed..."
ReplyDeleteDisappointed.
Disappointed.
DISAPPOINTED?!

ReplyDeleteNot disappointed at all, it was about time to end the reign of terror. No more Huddy! Big YES to that! Thanks, girls, you made my day!
