  1. From the first quick look at it and I got to say how the hell is it possible that Breaking Bad after it's incredibly good 3rd season isn't nominated as best show? Nothing against The Walking Dead (love that show), but Breaking Bad definitely deserved that spot more, honestly they'd deserve to win.
And I'm also missing Aaron Paul in the supporting actors category and January Jones in the best drama actress category. Furthermore I didn't find Buscemi very good in Boardwalk Empire, he seemed kind of misplaced for me.

  2. Kudos to The Pillars of The Earth, it was fantastic and I hope it wins

  3. it's a joke? piper perabo? i know that she's only good thing in that show but please... also breaking bad as usual. and julia stiles? much better character i dexter season 5 was johnny lee miller. she was only a worthless gadget in battle between dex and jordan chase

  4. Glee wins just two:BEST TV SERIES, COMEDY & BEST SUPPORTING ACTRESS #fact

  7. WTF is Piper Perabo doing there? O_O She's cute in the show and all that, but no way she deserves a GG nom. Not if that means Anna Torv is ignored.

    Seriously ¬¬

    ReplyDelete
  8. Dexter and TWD there instead of Breaking Bad and LOST?
    I hope they're kidding me.

    ReplyDelete
  9. Scott Caan and Chris Colfer among the supporting cast?
What about Terry O'Quinn or Aaron Paul?!

    ReplyDelete
  10. I completely agree on Piper. I like Covert Affairs. It is light fun like most the USA channel shows, but Piper is also light in the series. Not deserving of any nomination in my eyes.

I completely disagree on Julia Stiles. I think Lumen was FAR MORE than a gadget between Dexter and Jordan! She was the unleashing of a side of Dexter we have not seen. She was both a healing element and a catalyst to change with him to his very core. Normal killings odd baddies would not have accomplished what she did this season. Likewise, a new big bad would not have gotten to him in such a way to alter who he is on a primal level like Lumen did. She was anything but a gadget.

  11. I think to the Globes LOST was not part of this season's crop of TV shows. It was last season despite being on this year.

    ReplyDelete
  12. For me it would be : The walking dead, Glee, Michael C Hall, Katey Sagal, Matthew Morrison, Lea Michele, The pacific, Idris Elba, Hayley Atwell, Scott Caan, Jane Lynch! ^^

    Good luck everybody!

  13. I guess all the concentration on Kurt and his triasls and tribulations n Glee this season got him a GG nomination. Did NOT see that coming! Nor did I expect Thomas Jane to be nominated for best comedy actor in Hung. He plays most of it as the straight man and and the comedy is mostly from other or the situations in my eyes. Piper Perabo is a lightweight actress that does a lightweight job on Covert Affairs. I think Hugh Laurie was a token nomination for network TV and he was not deserving of the nomination this year with the likes of Timothy Olyphant, Andrew Licoln, and Gabriel Byrne all lef off the list of nominees ... and personally I think BOTH Tom Selleck and Donnie Wahlberg do a better job as dramatic actors.

Go Katey Segal and Ian McShane!!!!

  14. For me: The Walking Dead (but I think they wil lgo with Boardwalk Empire), The Big Bang Theory, Bryan Cranston, Katey Segal, Jim Parsons, Laura Linney, Pillars of the Earth, Ian McShane, Hayley Atwell (I have not seen Dench in Cranford so I could change my mind), David Straitham and Jane Lynch.

    ReplyDelete
  15. I like Glee but I think many people feel it suffered this year from too many guest stars, too many tribute episodes, and in my eyes too much Kurt (despite hi nomination). It would not shock me if The Big Bang Theory won this year. Then again it would not shock me if Glee did win! LOL

  16. No nomination for John Noble? If Fringe were a dull, pretentious show on AMC, he would have been nominated.

    ReplyDelete
  17. I find the shows on AMC ANYTHING but dull or pretentious.

I love John Noble and Fringe, but he is a supporting character actor on the show... more than a dynamic full range actor. Joshua Jackson or Anna Torv both are worthy of nominations however.

    ReplyDelete
  18. I can assure you, that LOST was eligible for this edition of the Golden Globe. They works in a different way of the Emmys.

    ReplyDelete
  19. Dull & pretentious? Have you given those AMC a chance? They're greatly written dramas with top-notch acting and great story twists. Nothing against Fringe, a show I like, but it doesn't come close to the brilliance of Breaking Bad, which in my opinion is the best show on TV right now.
And if it weren't for cable stations like AMC the TV landscape would be a place full of dull and boring shows.

    ReplyDelete
  20. I agree. Boardwalk Empire will probably take it home. 4 reasons: Martin Scorcese, HBO, former Soprano creator Terence Winter and former Soprano star Steve Buscemi.

    ReplyDelete
  21. Four very good points! Plus I am not sure the Globes or Academy is ready to make a "zombie" series a winner.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Glee shouldn't win, period. First season was WAY better than this one and it didn't take home the award, except for Jane Lynch's performance, which was and continues to be truly amazing, so it shouldn't happen this year.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Sorry, man, but Buscemi is freaking amazing on Boardwalk Empire. Ok, you might not like the show or something, but there's nothing bad to say about his acting.

    ReplyDelete
  24. I agree. I think him playing against type is the reason the performance is so good for me. He usually is the powerless sidekick or endearing neurotic, but on BE he is conniving, lascivious and all out fun to me.

    ReplyDelete
  25. I'm happy for The Good Wife. It's a truly great show and I think it deserves those nominations. But where the hell is Glenn Close? She should be there. And that's not only because I freaking love Damages, but c'mon, the woman won two consecutive GGs for her role and then the next year she's not even nominated? I guess this proves how much nominations depend on advertising. FX didn't advertise Damages since it had been cancelled. Only later it was bought by Directv...

  26. The two of you made the mistake of reading my post as anti-AMC. It was meant to be anti-Golden Globes. What I meant was their voters only give awards to boring "adult" dramas and overlook genre shows like Fringe, and that they also prefer AMC shows because they're also viewed as "above" lesser shows like Fringe.

And yes, I also like Breaking Bad, and I've been thinking about watching The Walking Dead.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Ok , I agree then. :) When I contrast those AMC shows to genre shows though I almost always come out of it thinking of the more adult AMC shows as stronger .BSG was one exception where I think they should have gotten more awards and nominations. Maybe it makes me snooty or snobby. I think you are right with think MANY of the actors would get awards or nominations if they were on more adult shows on different channels. There is a definite bias leaning towards cable series and more adult material... whether that is a good thing or a bad thing I don't know.

    ReplyDelete
  28. I honestly think The Walking Dead is one of the best made TV shows on the air. The genre or the occasional violence/ gore is not for everyone, but I think you might like it from the other shows you watch.

    ReplyDelete
  29. No Community? Lots of Glee?

    Fail.

    ReplyDelete
  30. Castle wasn't nominated...WTF???

    ReplyDelete
  31. So I guess it's not just me when I read it and feel lots of good shows have been unfairly left out :(

    ReplyDelete
  32. Not too surprising is it? Community has lost viewers, has not got a back order and has not been renewed yet and Glee is gaining and a powerhouse in its time slot, its genre, the music industry, and it affects pop culture itself.

    ReplyDelete
  33. I thought they did a great job of spreading the wealth... other than leaving off Breaking Bad and Lost.

    ReplyDelete
  34. I find it annoying that a lot of the same shows are up for those awards... it's like.. the world doesn't revolve around those few shows, you know? D: Some diversity would be nice. but no.. it's quite a bit of the same stuff.

    ReplyDelete
  35. I always miss NCIS on these listings...
    And Psych.
#1 drama and one of the funniest tv shows ever don't deserve it? then who does??

    ReplyDelete
  36. How can NCIS be the number one show, and have around 20 million viewers every episode, and yet never be nominated?!? Its ridiculous that it's not!

    ReplyDelete
  37. No offense taken, everyone has a different taste, but for me, this role isn't a very good fit for him in my opinion. I like the show and it's not that his acting is bad, but I don't like him very much for this role.

    ReplyDelete
  38. Well the award shows are about rewarding superior artistry, not viewership.

    ReplyDelete
  39. darq, well said.

A show can have a good story OR good acting OR good directing and editing, and that doesn't garantee you a good show. When you get good directing/editing of a good story with good acting THEN you probably have a great show.

That being said, almost all of cops/fed agents/special agents series have a lack of originality to the stories, if not from episode one then after a couple of chapters. If you pick an oldie like 'Hill Street Blues' (about regular cops) and the more recent '24' (about fed/special agents) you get all that other tv shows of the genre give you.

I respect jaimee and everybody else's taste for NCIS, but since season 3 of 24 I have had it with cops and special agents' shows.

  40. I love literally every show that has been nominated. And all I can say is that in most catagories it is too hard to call. The only ones I would guess though
Best Comedy: The Big C, Best Leading Actress in a Comedy: Laura Linney
Less well know, but a really awesome show.

    ReplyDelete
  41. My Choices: Dexter,The Big Bang Theory,Michael C. Hall-Dexter,Julianne Marguiles-The Good Wife,Jim Parsons - The Big Bang Theory,The Pacific,Al Pacino - You Don't Know Jack,Scott Caan - Hawaii Five-O,Julia Stiles - Dexter
These are best shows and actors in my opinion even though i doubt that they will win, especially Dexter and the actors that are nominated in it....

    ReplyDelete
  42. Best drama series, The Good Wife (too few TWD epis for a decision); Best comedy, 30 Rock; Best actress in a drama, Julianne Margulies; Best actor comedy, Alec Baldwin; Best actess comedy, Tina Fey; Best supporting actor, Chris Noth.

    ReplyDelete
  43. Those that I want to see winning awards tonight :
    - The Big C and Laura Linney as best comedy and best actress in a comedy.
    - Bryan Cranston and Katey Sagal as best actor and actress in a drama series.
    - Boardwalk Empire as best drama. I'm not that big of a fan of this show, but the 5th season of Dexter was kind of weak and the 1st season of The Walking Dead was disappointing, so that leaves me with Boardwalk Empire.
    - Julia Stiles and Scott Caan as as best supporting actor and actres. Stiles was one of the reason I liked the 5th season of Dexter (while being disapointing on other levels) and Scott Caan is a pretty good sidekick on Hawaii Five-O. His character is not very original but he's cool.

    ReplyDelete
  44. The Big C and Linney should definately win, I love 30 Rock / Glee, but seriously, they haven't been a path on the Big C this (golden globe timescale) year.

    ReplyDelete
  45. Lost got the total shaft. The Good Wife is good but really? Seriously? Over Lost??!!!!! Also, I've heard The Walking Dead is good, but not consistently so. And while Mad Men is good, I hate when the same show wins over and over. It's true, I don't feel Lost was at its best this year, but the series as a whole deserves something for being one of the most original, influential shows ever. Looking at the list of movies, even more so, there are some on there that didn't get the best reviews but were nominated. What's happening with the state of moes today??

    Loo

    ReplyDelete
  46. OMFG does that really say Killers of the Earth!?
Please tell me that was a typo from the actual source, because that's funny :P

And Ian Mcshane, Hayley Atwell FTW!!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  47. I'd love The Walking Dead to win, it's such a great show.

    ReplyDelete
  48. Glee is good, but yeah, I agree, it's uneven (even first season, although a show can be more readily forgiven for being uneven in the first season). Well said that it has too many guest stars, tribute eps, and goes off on tangents with one or two characters (the latest being Kurt) while virtually ignoring the others (Emma anyone?) Yet I just think it's so original and fun. However, I'm SO sick of hearing about it, even though I watch it! THERE ARE OTHER GOOD SHOWS, PEOPLE. Best thing about it is Jane Lynch, who totally deserved her Emmy--and Matthew Morrison, who makes it look so easy that it's easy to take him for granted. I'd like to see him in a different role to see how he is--if he's acting in Glee or if that's just his personality for real!

    ReplyDelete
  49. I still can't understand the nominations (Lost anyone?) but I was glad to see Steve Buscemi win and not Bryan Cranston yet again, who, mind you, does an excellent job on an otherwise mediocre show, but doesn't need nor deserve every award. Sorry, but Matthew Fox FTW. And Natalie Portman was much deserving. But many that I would have nominated throughout most catagories were not nominated.

Most of my picks didn't win though, although its not surprising. Many shows, actors, actresses were

    ReplyDelete
  50. I loved Lost and most of its actors, but honestly, there were better shows and actors out there this year. Also don't agree with your opinion on Breaking Bad. The third season was simply the best thing TV had to offer this year, the show was incredible in every aspect and so far Cranston got totally ignored by the Golden Globes.
I don't agree with all of the nominations, but they weren't that bad either. Just reflects the fact that cable offers high quality TV shows.

    ReplyDelete
  51. Dexter had its worst season in my opinion, and The Good Wife better than Lost? I must disagree. We could argue back and forth over Breaking Bad, but I just could never find anything to like about it other than solid acting. The actors make the show what it is because the writing is dreadful as is the story in my opinion. Most especially on here disagree with me but I am ok with that. But I will agree with you that cable tends to employ better writing teams and thus makes higher quality television

    ReplyDelete
  52. Also think Dexter had its worst season so far, but it was good anyway. Never saw The Good Wife, so I can't say anything about it. Personally I would have Lost included in the list of nominees, but it simply wasn't the best show on TV and I can see how it didn't make the list.
As for the actors, there were a lot of guys better than the Lost actors.

    ReplyDelete
  53. Who cares....I am mighty apathetic about this year's Globes, since they didn't have the good taste to nominate Lost or anyone involved with Lost for anything. The only reason I may DVR it is to speed through everything except Ricky Gervais's comments because he is so hilarious.

    ReplyDelete
  54. I agree with you about Lost getting snubbed. I don't understand it.
