    -Modest:
“2 Broke Girls” (CBS), “The Odd Couple” (CBS)

    -Losers:
“Gotham” (Fox), “Jane the Virgin” (CW), “Conviction” (ABC), “Timeless” (NBC)

    Ratings Breakdown:
NBC topped the Monday overnights, inching past No. 2 ABC by two percent in households. But the home of “The Voice,” of course, will hold a far larger advantage in adults 18-49 (and all the key young adult demographics). In the 8-10 p.m. overnight battle of “The Voice” (7.3 rating/11 share) versus “Dancing With the Stars” (7.4/11), ABC held a one-tenth of a rating point advantage. But year-to-year, “Dancing With the Stars” slipped by 14 percent (versus a 8.6/13 on 10/19/15), while “The Voice” was on par the 7.5/11 one year earlier.

Both ABC and NBC continue to lag in the new drama department at 10 p.m., with NBC’s “Timeless” (#2: 3.8/ 6) and ABC’s “Conviction” (#3: 3.2/ 6) trailing year-ago time period occupants “Blindspot” (4.8/ 8 on 10/19/15) and “Castle” (4.7/ 8) by 21 percent and 32 percent, respectively. Compared to the 9:30 p.m. half-hour, “Timeless” slipped from “The Voice” (7.4/11) by 49 percent, while “Conviction” dropped from “Dancing With the Stars” (7.5/12) by 37 percent.

Tops in the Monday 10 p.m. hour was CBS’ relocated “Scorpion” at a 4.8/ 8, which was a stronger attraction airing one hour earlier.

There were two season three premieres last night: “Jane the Virgin” on The CW and “The Odd Couple” on CBS. “Jane the Virgin” (#5: 0.9/ 1 at 9 p.m.) squandered the lead-in support from “Supergirl” (#5: 1.9/ 3 at 8 p.m.), with a loss of 53 percent. But what is particularly positive for “Supergirl” was more than triple the overnight household rating than year-ago time period occupant “Crazy Ex-Girlfriend” (0.6/ 1 on 10/19/15).

“The Odd Couple,” meanwhile, scored a 3.1/ 5 at 9:30 p.m., which was a loss of a less severe 18 percent out of “2 Broke Girls” (#3: 3.8/ 6 at 9 p.m.). Together, however, “2 Broke Girls” and “The Odd Couple” were, on average, 43 percent below year-ago time period occupant “Scorpion” (6.1/ 9).

Earlier in the evening on CBS was the night’s highest-rated show, “The Big Bang Theory,” at a 9.1/14 at 8 p.m. That led into a typical 5.3/ 8 for recent comedy entry “Kevin Can Wait” at 8:30 p.m. But the true test for the Kevin James sitcom will come next Monday when it anchors Monday at 8 p.m. (into the debut of “Man With a Plan,” starring Matt LeBlanc).

Fox capped off this fifth Monday of the new television season with its drama combination of “Gotham” (#4: 2.5/ 4) and “Lucifer” (#4” 2.6/ 4). While neither overnight performance is exactly stellar, “Lucifer” was 86 percent above short-lived “The Minority Report” one year earlier (1.4/ 2).
