Scene Of The Week - December 20, 2015 + POLL

20 Dec 2015

A weekly feature in which we're trying to find the most compelling, best acted, written, directed and just generally great, memorable scenes that we've seen in past seven days on TV.

2 BROKE GIRLS, "And the Escape Room", December 17, 2015, Actors: Kat Dennings, Beth Behrs, The Scene: Max calls Caroline her best friend
Aimee Hicks:
Max has issues with being honest about her feelings and while everyone can see how much Caroline means to her it's hard for Max to admit it. For her to just come out and declare Caroline's status as her best friend is a big deal. Whatever is ahead for these two at least they will always have each other. Their friendship is one of the things that make this show so special. In a TV landscape where female friends are usually fighting over a guy or just fighting with each other it is nice to see such a true, honest, and supportive friendship represented. The fact Kat and Beth are real life best friends definitely reflects in their performances. A fantastic scene with the perfect blend of heart and comedy.
FARGO, "Palindrome", December 14, 2015, Actors: Ted Danson, Bokeem Woodbine and more, The Scenes: Hank has family time with Lou and Betsy & Mike Milligan becomes an accountant
Kollin Lore:
Hank Larson has family time with Lou and Betsy Solverson. Lou, Betsy, and Hank have some family time to appreciate still being together. A sweet and quiet moment to conclude an otherwise hectic show and one that made me feel warm inside. Especially when Hank says, you know the angels when they come because they'll have the faces of your children. So heartwarming.
DarkUFO: Mike Milligan becomes an accountant.

LIMITLESS, "This is Your Brian on Drugs", December 15, 2015, Actors: Hill Harper and more, The Scene: The ending
Laura Markus:
Boyle finds the missing NZT pill and pockets it, and Brian calls Ike Jason, who is actually used to being called Ike. What a great ending to a wonderful winter finale. We're left questioned with the idea of what Boyle might do with that NZT. Will he return it to the CJC? Will he use it himself to help out his mother in some way? Will he save it for Brian in case of emergency? So many ideas. As well, once Ike woke up from his coma, Brian said, "Welcome back, Jason", due to Mike getting aggressive about the reason Ike was shot, and that the least Brian could do was call him by his real name. To no one's surprise, I imagine, Ike tells Brian, "I kinda got used to Ike." They smile and laugh, and then the episode ends. Beautiful acting, even from minimalistic scenes like these. I cannot wait for the hiatus to end.
Prpleight: Boyle with his mother then finding the NZT (aka the one thing that could possibly bring his mother back to him). Boyle is such an uptight character and we're getting an insight into his character.

NCIS, "Day In Court", November 17, 2015, Actors: David McCallum and more, The Scene: Ducky finds his brother
Daniel van der Veer:
This was such a heartwarming Christmas episode! The flashbacks slowly showed us the relationship between Ducky and his younger brother Nicholas, and it became very clear that Ducky cared a great deal for his brother. The end scene when Ducky found his brother was a beautiful scene. Even though his brother is in a nursing home with Alzheimer's, Ducky made Nicholas recognize him by doing their old nose boop. A very emotional scene.

QUANTICO, "Inside", December 13, 2015, Actors: Priyanka Chopra and more, The Scene: The command center is bombed
Daniel van der Veer:
Despite my feelings on the overall episode, the end scene of the Quantico winter finale was great. In the final seconds of the episode, it is shown that the command center is bombed. It was a big cliffhanger and I can't wait for the show to return to see who died.

SCORPION, "Dam Breakthrough", December 14, 2015, Actors: Elyes Gabel and more, The Scenes: Walter breaks down & The rocket launch
Justyna K:
Walter hasn't really been dealing with his sister's death in the past couple of episodes. His grief was hidden, he started to talk to himself and kept Megan's ashes in a coffee can in his car. Until everything finally hit him. He won the $15 million grant, the money he wanted to use to help his sister. And all he cares about at this point is finding the missing ferret. The loss turned out to be too much for him and he breaks down, starts crying and admits how much he misses Megan. Such an emotional moment, one very important for Walter. The emotions are not something he's comfortable with but the pain and grief are things he can't hide from anymore. And everyone is there for him. Both beautiful and sad. Great and powerful performance by Elyes Gabel. And I love what this breakthrough leads to, the farewell to Megan - the rocket launch on the beach. And it's the first step for Walter to accept Megan's departure. Kudos!
Aimee Hicks: Everyone is gathered on the beach for the rocket launch in Megan's honor. Despite this episode having one standout moment after another it was the very end that left the biggest impact. Relationships made progress with a kiss between Toby and Happy as well as a growing emotional connection for Paige and Walter. This scene was also a wonderful memorial for Megan who had a special place in the hearts of every member of the team and the viewers. It was only fitting that the Christmas episode would end with the Scorpion family together and they even allowed Megan to be there in spirit. Great character growth and a perfect ending to the first half of the season.

SUPERGIRL, "Hostile Takeover", December 14, 2015, Actors: Melissa Benoist, Calista Flockhart and more, The Scenes: Cat figures out Kara is Supergirl & Kara yells at Holo-Alura
Justyna K:
Once again it was a wonderful episode for Melissa Benoist, she's doing an excellent work with all the emotional moments on the show, like the one this week where she realizes her mother's lie. But it's the scene near the end of the hour that really caught me by surprise and stood out for me especially, when Cat figures out Kara's secret. Cat has become one of the most interesting characters on the show. It's great and refreshing to see someone clever like that, who can actually figure out the truth on their own. And more than that, give Kara more confidence and strength with a thank you. Well done twist and a heartwarming moment. Really enjoying the interactions between the two, both actors work wonderfully together. Kudos!
Aimee Hicks: While I loved the Cat figures out Kara is Supergirl scene this one really stood out above all others. Melissa poured a ton of raw emotion into this scene and showed all the family conflicts that have been brewing inside Kara. Laura did a fantastic job having Holo-Alura express remorse at having hurt her daughter while also still maintaining a computer generated response. Chyler had minimal stuff to do, but the way she supported Melissa in this very raw and vulnerable scene is very commendable. The show does a fantastic job giving each character and actor an opportunity to shine every week, but when they are in a supporting role every member of this cast always rises to the challenge to support one another. A brilliant scene acted with incredible heart.
Daniel van der Veer: Melissa Benoist was amazing in this scene! She really showed us a Kara that was so hurt because she found out the truth about her mother. We usually see a light-hearted Kara, but this time that was not the case. Great acting by Melissa!

THE BIG BANG THEORY, "The Opening Night Excitation", December 17, 2015, Actors: Jim Parsons, Mayim Bialik, The Scene: Sheldon and Amy talk and kiss before sex
Prpleight
: Sheldon asks Amy why she's shaking. When I saw the interview regarding Amy and Sheldon having sex I groaned. Sheldon's reaction to the breakup had been so uneven that I couldn't imagine the timing being right or how the idea could work at all. But this was such a sweet moment and Sheldon being there for Amy emotionally proved he was really ready. It felt right to me. And as an added bonus the reflective cuts to the boys at the theater for Star Wars was a hoot. It was one of many great scenes in this episode. Runners up: The opening Star Wars crawl, Every Bob Newhart scene in the episode, Penny's reaction to Sheldon's announcement.
Ben L: Shamy kissing was easily the best and last night's episode was by far the best of the season. It is a contender of one of the best episodes of the whole series.

THE EXPANSE, "Dulcinea", December 14, 2015, Actors: Steven Strait, Cas Anvar and more, The Scene: The Canterbury takes off
Kollin Lore:
Nerdgasm! The crew buckles themselves in, the adrenaline pumps them up for high G, the ship powers up, and boom! The driving music and how it was shot made it so intense. And it's been a while since we've seen an epic spaceship moment on the small screen. Loved the detail too with the ship breaking apart showing how in this world they are still in their infancy in mastering space travel. Cool moment.

THE LIBRARIANS, "And the Point of Salvation", December 13, 2015, Actors: Rebecca Romijn, John Kim, The Scene: Eve tells Ezekiel the World War II story
Prpleight:
It was the second time Eve stopped and asked Ezekiel how many times he'd gone though hell. When Ezekiel tells her he's lost how count of how many times she's told him that story but he lets her tell it every time because he likes the way she looks at him when she tells it. Awwww.
