Chasing Life - A View from the Ledge - Advance Preview

3 Jul 2015

If you’re anything like us, you can’t wait for season two of “Chasing Life” to begin. Fortunately the wait wasn’t too long after the previously scheduled August premiere was pushed up to July 6. But if you still can’t stand the suspense, you’re in luck: We have a preview of the season’s premiere episode, “A View from the Ledge.”

After April said yes to Leo’s proposal at the end of last season, you can expect the two to relish in their new status and begin some wedding/engagement planning. Season two picks up the morning after the engagement. (After an interesting dream sequence while April is sleeping.) Leo and April haven’t told anyone their good news yet. Who do you think will be the first person they tell?

After that day, the episode jumps forward a month and we see how everyone is dealing with the engagement. April’s mother and grandma may not be as ready for this as April. I thought the family dynamics here seemed to stray a bit. Sara and Gram weren’t their usual supportive selves and it felt kind of strange. Granted, they want to make sure April was getting married for the right reasons. And they are still dealing with her cancer. But their characters just felt a little “off.” Still, April has a wonderful talk with her mom later in the episode that ended up being a very nice scene. One of them will shed some tears as the other gives her thoughts.

The episode really delves into April’s state of mind as she faces cancer again. As she deals with her relapse and a new round of chemo, she begins to question what she wants out of life and who she is without the job she loved. I enjoyed this storyline. A new character, Vanessa (Krysta Rodriguez), forces April to question herself and her goals and dreams. I must say, Vanessa’s character was beyond annoying. But what she had to say was insightful and gets April thinking.

Leo also helps April face her fears about dying. The title of the episode, “A View from the Edge,” isn’t just figurative. You will see a scene on the ledge of the hospital roof. (I just wish this scene wasn’t so obviously shot against a green screen. Some of it looked noticeably fake.)

While April and Leo have made it official, Dominic is definitely not out of the picture. It’s clear from the very beginning that an engagement hasn’t put an end to this love triangle. April, Leo and Dominic will be around each other a lot. Can they all live with that? It’s going to create some jealousies and a lot of awkward moments.

Natalie is still dating Dominic. Heavy tensions remain between her and April. But she does make an effort to connect with April. However, she isn’t too happy with Dominic by the end of the episode. Natalie seemed to have a larger role than she did last season.

As for Brenna, she has a new hobby, which I thought was a really fun addition. Greer is gone, though she is mentioned. But Brenna’s life has to go on. You’ll see a couple new characters at Brenna’s school. Brenna wasn’t too nice to one of them. I’m interested to see where that storyline is headed. Brenna will also have to make a decision on whether she wants to know the outcome of her bone marrow donation.

Of course, as you may have seen from all the episode photos, we also get to see April and Leo’s engagement party, where Brenna gives her sister a sweet gift and Sara makes a memorable toast. Before that April and Leo share a nice moment at her house. And wait for an intriguing shocker at the end of the episode that opens up a new mystery about the girls’ dad. I wasn’t expecting it at all. It was a great twist.

Don’t miss all this and a lot more in the season premiere of “Chasing Life.” It airs Monday, July 6 at 9/8c.

How much are you looking forward to the return of "Chasing Life?" Do you have any guesses on the twist at the end or predictions for season two? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below.

Do you mean the threat of Dominic to April and Leo? If so, hmmm. Can't say for the season. But the show certainly made every effort to show a lot of Dominic scenes and mentions. So I'd say 5-6.

Well, I can't say that will happen. In fact, I'm pretty sure it won't. Lol. He was mentioned or around a lot.

  6. I am beyond excited for this season to start. But why do they have to shove Dominic down our throats. They dated for like a month when the show first started, he's not "in love" with her, they were friends who made out and had sex a couple of times. Hes better off with Natalie anyways, they have good chemistry. April and Dominic seemed so forced, while with Leo it seems more natural. I really hope they don't stick her back with Dom, he's fine as her friend but that's it. I have suspicions as to where they are headed and if I'm right it won't matter who she's with.

I'm excited for the season to start, too! I must admit, I was kind of surprised how much they promoted Dominic in this episode. I thought now that Leo and April were engaged, the thing with Dom was over. But apparently it's not. Or at least the potential for it is still there. What are your suspicions as to where they are headed?

I thought that's what you might have meant. That would be soooo sad! And it would mean the series was over. So I hope that doesn't happen.

Lol. It surprised me a little, too. But they may just be teasing us. We will see, I guess.

  11. It would be sad, but it is cancer and the time might come. I'm not getting my hopes up for more episodes or another season. Abcfamily is giving it the crap treatment already. Premiering in during the holiday week, changing its air time, airing it after the low rated Fosters. I mean I might be wrong, but I've watched a few shows on this network and watched a bunch bite the dust.

I'm kinda hoping that the reason she falls during the wedding is from something else and we find out she's pregnant. But I doubt that will happen.

  12. I thought this'd be different you know, a couple gets together and STAYS together. That we wouldn't have to worry about someone coming in and giving the fans heart palpatations LOL. Is them showing April and Leo at the altar a good sign?

  13. Personally I think they might pull a 'fault in our stars' and kill Leo. With them ramping up the (nonexistent imo) love triangle and Scott's new show I think they may write him out. I really hope they don't though as I love Leo and April as a couple!! Also, it's bad, but.. If they do finish the series I would like them to kill April. It would be so sad but it is cancer and unfortunately not ever sufferer can have a miracle!

  14. I'm so glad you got to see the episode in advance, and got to share a little preview with us! I'm excited to watch the season premiere Monday. I'll probably watch it an hour late, but that's good for me. I will be interesting to see where they go with the triangle and with April's health. Interest there is a new character. What about the young man cancer patient introduced at the end of last season? Did that storyline progress? I guess I'll find out Monday.

    Happy 4th!

    Nice job with the preview

  15. I really hope they don't shove Dominic down our throats again. There really is no need for a love triangle. I know its the new trend with tv shows and movies but I'm sick of it. Lol plus him and Natalie are cute.. she's kinda grown on me too. So Id hate to see her get hurt, it looked like in the promo she said she lost a guy to April already and didn't want to do it again. I don't want Dominic to screw up the girls relationship. They are half sisters and I'd hate to see a guy screw it up ya know.

I knew that sneak peek was a dream...and now I know where the episode picks up since realizing the other sneak peek. I love Italia, she is fantastic.

I know what you mean! Ugh. I think, yes, with all the things they're throwing at the couple (Dominic, fainting/falling on the way down the aisle, etc), I think until we see it, worrying will be all too familiar for us fans! :)

I know what you mean. :( I LOVE your idea about falling during the wedding because she's pregnant! Wouldn't that be fantastic?!! Now I have my hopes up. ;)

Thanks, Jack! It was fun to see early. But the day is here. It seemed they're bringing back the triangle so we'll see what happens with that. Viewers get some news about April's health in this episode. They didn't show the young cancer patient introduced at the end of last season, though. But I expect we will see him soon! Hope you had a great 4th!

At the time I wrote this, they hadn't released that sneak peek yet. :) I agree - Italia is fantastic!!

  23. I watched the episode the same night as it aired, and now it's way past my bedtime, which may make you laugh. There were some really awesome things about this episode. They do such a great job with April's illness and the big questions in life. But I wasn't very happy with the Dominic--Leo triangle. I don't think the attention they paid to it bodes well for Leo and April's future together. But I am interested to see where it all goes. By the way, I read Aimee's review. She is a good writer, but way too detailed. She's good, but no TP.
