  22. Asylum was my favorite season of AHS too, but I enjoyed the tie-in that they did in Freak Show's winter finale.

  23. I enjoyed it too! It was great to see sister Mary Eunince again. It did make me miss Asylum though, it really was a phenomenal season!

  25. I loved how Asylum combined true horror with an amazingly well written storyline from beginning to end.

Freak Show has been good, but not really "horrorifying". Overall I like it, and I'm just glad it's not campy like Coven...

  26. The Middle, SVU, and Chicago PD.

  27. The Mentalist ofc

  28. Law & Order SVU #ForgivingRollins is like everything I've been able to think about since I saw that promo back in december. It's going to be heartbreaking but it's been a long time coming learning about her past & hopefully this (in some f-ed up way) can get her to straighten up her life!

  29. I agree with Asylum. The only thing I would have removed would have been the aliens portion. I didn't mind it as much as others did but I didn't feel it was necessary. And there were some true brilliance acting-wise in that season. I think Sarah Paulson should have gotten all the awards for that season, she was incredible as Lana. And the horror was more physological I think. To me at least what worked so well was that I found myself deeply claustrophobic and with authentic fear of being locked up that asylum - I was going through it all with Kit and Lana as they were going through it. Those two characters were very relatable as they were just ordinary (and brave) people thrown into that horrible situation. That's, to me, the biggest difference between that season and the other ones. Add to that an also very well crafted storyline, with great twists (loved the use of present timeline) and it was the best season.

Sara's character in coven was okay but not rootable enough for me to actively root for her the same way I had rotten for Lana and that season had me a bit furious with how little they were using Evan Peters and Lilly Rabe. Freak Show is way better mostly because of Jimmy and because there are also some decent twists and good villains, though there is no "horror" sensation like Asylum, I agree.

  30. TPCA, Black-ish, Mysteries Of Laura, AHS (NPH yay).

  31. The alien portion was ok. I think the problem was that it got lost in the shuffle of everything else going on. Sarah Paulson was absolutely stunning in Asylum, and as you said Evan Peters also had an excellent performance that season.

Coven had a lot of problems, and the only redeeming qualities were Angela Basset and Kathy Bates's break out performances IMO.

Freak Show, so far, probably has the best writing of the three, but it lacks the punch of Asylum. For Asylum it was like all the stars aligned and the show just got better with every episode until the tear-jerker of an ending. Maybe the final episodes of Freak Show will pick up, and we'll have a similarly satisfying ending? I'm holding my hope up. Tonights episode should be good with NPH guest starring.

  32. I wouldn't say Freak Show is the best written of the three, I think Asylum was. Freak Show could use more focus IMO and it certainly could have more an end-goal. But this gets into the personal preference field I think. Another big issue I have is that I grew completely tired of Jessica Lange's characters. They all seem exactly the same and they all tackle the same issues; sooner or later we find out she is a woman consumed by her age and that is trying to make up for what she didn't have before, always very free spirit sexual wise and so on and so forth. Sister Judith also fit in this but at least she had redeeming qualities and it was quite the thing to watch her go from the villain to the victim during one season I thought. It also helps that she was just her second character to be that way so I wasn't tired of her yet.

As for Coven, I think its gets an excess of hate. I enjoyed the show but it just wasn't "AHS-like". It felt like a cool show about witches (which is probably during that season Murphy got asked so many times if he would consider spinning of that universe) and not like AHS. I mean, sure, the season had issues but to me it suffers more from comparison issues than anything truly intrinsic about it.

  33. The Mentalist is it for me, then try to find something to start binge watching.

  34. Actually I agree with everything you said. If Freak Show had more focus it could go from good to excellent.

I think Scream Queens will end up being that "Coven-ish" spin-off some people wanted too.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Yeah you are probably right about Scream Queens, hadn't even thought about it!

  43. American Horror Story and may give Empire a shot if I have time. I've seen some pretty good reviews of the show so far and I wouldn't mind seeing a sassy/doesn't give a fuck attitude from Taraji P. Henson haha.
