Mom - Three Smiles and an Unpainted Ceiling - Advance Preview

CBS's Mom is truly a unique show on air right now. Despite being billed as a comedy, CBS's Mom has never shied away from touching serious and sensitive subjects. Previously it featured issues like domestic violence and alcohol relapse. This week Mom takes another huge step when someone close to the Plunketts suddenly passes away.

Although, the character that dies should be pretty obvious and even more so when you watch the promo for the episode below, I will not be revealing who dies in this preview.

The death takes place in the first half of the episode and leaves Plunkett family and the viewers shocked. Roscoe, the youngest in the family, really doesn't know how to feel in a situation likes this and sits quietly not doing anything. Violet keeps herself to her room as she has a huge regret that she will probably have to live with for the rest of her life. Christy hasn't had the time to truly acknowledge what has happened as she is taking care of everyone else. Bonnie, however, is the most devastated, and even goes to something she has been try to stay away from when she feels like that she just can't handle the pain anymore.

Allison Janney is remarkable in this episode and brings raw emotions which will make many viewers very sentimental. Her performance as Bonnie in this episode is truly heartbreaking. Anna Faris alsodoes a great job especiallt in the scene where Christy, who has been keeping it together to be there for her family, finally breaks down.

Most sitcoms stay away from subjects death as (obviously) death as is a really serious subject and humor can't be drawn from it however, despite this a character's death being the main plot this week, the episode is not light on humor and manages to make the viewers laugh just when they think they are about to cry or have already shed a tear or two.

My advice when for you would be to keep a tissue handy during the episode because the tears will be coming and you won't even know it.

Watch sneak peeks from the episode below.

  1. So sad... and funny at the same time.
To me the season 1 finale was sadder but still, losing someone is always hard and heart-breaking.

  2. This episode does a nice job of summarizing the heart and humor balance "Mom" usually hits. A really good one.
