Scene Of The Week - November 16, 2014 - POLL

16 Nov 2014

A weekly feature in which we're trying to find the most compelling, best acted, written, directed and just generally great scenes that we've seen recently on TV.

2 BROKE GIRLS, "And the Childhood Not Included", November 10, 2014, Actor: Beth Behrs, The Scene: Caroline lets the fish into the aquarium
Diana Mack:
This show is always one of the best sit-coms nowdays. The best scene was when Caroline lets the fish she's holding in her bra into the aquarium. The way she did that was like she was giving birth to a fish-baby... so hilarious!

CASTLE, "The Time of Our Lives", November 10, 2014, Actors: Nathan Fillion, Stana Katic and more, The Scene: Castle and Beckett get married
Jimmy Ryan:
Castle fans were gifted to an amazing episode on Monday. The alternate universe was beautifully written and acted, and in the final minutes of the episode, we finally saw Caskett tie the knot. It was a beautiful wedding with beautiful vows, and is one of my scenes of the week. Also picked by Jamie Coudeville
Klutzy girl: Castle and Beckett finally marry. The bumps along the way annoyed me but the vows were perfect and I'm glad they did it their way.
Diana Mack: The wedding scene. Even though the whole episode was amazing - I love the AU stories - the last scene was beautiful, wonderful and sweet. Seeing them dancing with the song "In my veins" was perfect.

CHICAGO FIRE, "Nobody Touches Anything", November 11, 2014, Actors: Kara Killmer, Joe Minoso and more, The Scene: Cruz is revealed to be a Zumba instructor
Ben Norton:
Brett enters the Zumba class, and sees Cruz is the instructor. This was one hilarious scene, it fit the whole episode very well, it was in need of some comic relief. The scene cracked me up and I'm very intrigued to see what will happen next.

CHICAGO PD, "They'll Have to Go Through Me", November 12, 2014, Actors: Jason Beghe, Sophia Bush and more, The Scene: District 21 and other officers salute and farewell a fallen officer
Ben Norton:
This was such an emotional and heartwarming scene, as it just blended both shows together (SVU and CPD). I especially loved the fact that the crossover into SVU was shown in this scene magnificently.

CONSTANTINE, "A Feast of Friends", November 14, 2014, Actors: Matt Ryan, Jonjo O'Neill
The Scene: Constantine holds Gary Lester's hand as he dies
Nirat Anop:
In one of the most powerful moments of the season and the episode, the screams of Gary Lester were heard before being drowned out by haunting music as Manny comes to wait with Constantine as Gary dies. This scene was moving and showcased some amazing acting from Matt Ryan & Jonjo O'Neill. The scene showed some of the more dire consequences of Constantine's life, as he said, people die around him. Throughout this brilliant episode, we've come to see Constantine differently, he faces dire situations and the outcome isn't always a happy ending which is refreshing but also sets the show apart from its other Comic Book Adaptation Counterparts. The episode was also a very true adaptation to the comic. On a side note, the score from Bear McCreary playing during the scene between Gary and Constantine in the theatre was incredible, it was haunting, moving and absolutely Constantine, this man is a musical genius. I honestly hope more people give this show another chance.

CRIMINAL MINDS, "Hashtag", November 12, 2014, Actors: Matthew Gray Gubler, A. J. Cook
The Scene: JJ and Reid both correctly deduce the unsub's goal
Laura Markus:
When JJ and Reid both said "Fear" at the same time. It was adorable and this scene really showed that they're still cute little siblings (in my opinion). They both correctly deduced the unsub's goal. Morgan and Reid also said "No comment" at the same time earlier in the episode. It was just a night of saying things at the same time as someone else, I guess.

GOTHAM, "The Mask", November 10, 2014, Actors: Robin Lord Taylor and more
The Scene: Penguin 'asks' for the brooch (picked by Bradley Adams)

HOW TO GET AWAY WITH MURDER, "He Has a Wife", November 13, 2014, Actors: Viola Davis, Liza Weil and more, The Scenes: The final scene & Annalise fires Bonnie
Jimmy Ryan:
How To Get Away With Murder was on fire on Thursday. This series continues to raise the bar each week. Ahead of next week's winter finale, my favorite scene of the episode was the final 4 minutes, immediately after Bonnie was fired, where all the characters were placed ahead of where the flash forwards we've witnessed in the previous seven episodes, begin to fit together. Next week's episode is set to be an absolute ripper, and Thursday cannot come fast enough! Also picked by Bradley Adams and Jamie Coudeville
Daniel van der Veer: Bonnie tells Annalise the truth and gets on her knees begging for forgiveness, but Annalise fires her anyway. Maybe she overreacted, and maybe Bonnie on her knees was a bit weird, but it was still a very powerful scene between Viola Davis and Liza Weil.

MARVEL'S AGENTS OF SHIELD, "The Writing on the Wall", November 11, 2014, Actors: Simon Kassianides, Ming-Na Wen and more, The Scene: The team finds dead Hydra agents and Bakshi
Klutzy girl:
The team finds dead Hydra agents and Bakshi tied up as a present for Coulson. I am so happy that this is the start of Ward's redemption arc because I have a feeling it's going to be great. Definitely looking forward to what's next!

NCIS, "The Searchers", November 11, 2014, Actors: Mark Harmon, Emily Wickersham
The Scene: Gibbs tells Bishop why he's going easy on her

Daniel van der Veer: Bishop had been wondering the entire episode why Gibbs has been going easy on her since day one. And then Gibbs reveals that he lost two agents who sat at that same desk and he didn't want to lose a third one. This felt very genuine and was some great acting by Mark Harmon.
Tonya Papanikolas: Gibbs was definitely giving Bishop a pass and not riding her as hard as the others. I loved seeing Bishop call him out on it. The younger team members never challenge Gibbs or give him advice, so this was unique. I also loved Gibbs' explanation for why he was going easy on her. You never get to hear his reasonings for anything, so this was a treat. Plus - he had an emotional reason: feeling responsible for losing Kate and Ziva. It's wonderful to see that side of him. Plus, it was another nice acknowledgement of Ziva's loss on the show (and Kate's). I also enjoyed seeing how Bishop and Gibbs helped each other in the scene. He agreed to push her, and she made him realize losing the two agents wasn't his fault. Then I liked how Gibbs turned right around and started immediately treating Bishop differently, yelling at her with his emotionless, in-charge commands. Mark Harmon shined in showing us Gibbs' two totally different attitudes/approaches and the change between the two. Great scene.

NCIS LOS ANGELES, "Leipei", November 10, 2014, Actors: Linda Hunt, Renée Felice Smith, The Scene: Hetty encourages Nell to follow her own path
Ben Norton:
Hetty encourages Nell to follow her own path to becoming a covert operative. This was such an amazing scene for me, as Hetty and Nell have such a unique relationship that I really enjoy watching develop.

ONCE UPON A TIME, "The Snow Queen", November 9, 2014, Actors: Elizabeth Mitchell, Sally Pressman and more, The Scenes: Ingrid accidentally freezes her sister Helga & Robin Hood looses his morals for Regina
Nirat Anop:
Ingrid tries to stop Weselton but accidentally freezes her sister, Helga. This was an emotional scene, the sisterly bond they had and portrayed was incredibly strong and undeniably genuine, it was a mirror of Frozen for me. When Helga dismissed the Duke's comments of Ingrid trying making a move on him, it was a testament to the "sisterly bond" they shared and highlighted the power of "true love". When the Duke said to Ingrid that the "only fate befitting a monster" was to be locked up, it was as cruel as he was in Frozen. I felt so hurt for Ingrid, she tried to stop Weselton but he used Helga as a barrier, hiding behind her like the coward he is and sadly she froze at the touch of Ingrid's power. Seeing Ingrid frozen on the ground was a mirror copy of when Anna was frozen in Frozen, the parallel was so similar except Helga cracked into a thousand pieces. I was hoping that an act of True Love might have unfrozen her just like in Frozen however this wasn't the case. Subsequently seeing Gerta's fear of Ingrid whilst Ingrid cried out to her sister for help was heartbreaking, Elizabeth Mitchell acted beautifully but the pain she showed was so moving. Instead of Helga's heart needing to be unfrozen, I believe it is Ingrid's, she was only shown cruelty and unkindness which turned her icy, the last source of love she had was derived from Helga, she may have been the only one to unthaw her icy heart (or even Gerta and possibly Elsa or Emma). Love is all that she ever wanted.
Darth Locke: Robin Hood looses his morals for his love of Regina.

PERSON OF INTEREST, "Honor Among Thieves", November 11, 2014, Actors: Michael Emerson and more, The Scene: Harold wonders how much wrong they are willing to do in the name of right (picked by Sharon Seymour)

REVENGE, "Ambush", November 9, 2014, Actors: Emily VanCamp, James Tupper
The Scene: Emily tells David who she really is
Justyna Kubica:
Finally! It feels like we've been waiting for this moment since the very beginning of the series. And what a moment it was! A heartbroken Emily is tired of the lies, she feels abandoned by the one person she believed in the most. After realizing that her father's been around for a surprisingly long time, willingly leaving her all alone, not recognizing her, even though he's the one who really should have, she confronts him and reveals him the truth. It was exactly the reaction I hoped to see! It's hard not to think about how many things could have been different if he showed up earlier. Maybe even the ones we lost along the way (Aiden, Amanda, Declan) could still be alive... I'm still not over some of these deaths. The scene is even more powerful and emotional thanks to the (another!) absolutely fantastic performance by Emily VanCamp. She's such a scene-stealer! And never ceases to amaze me. Can't wait to hear David's explanation, it better be good! Another great scene I have to give a special shout out to is the honest talk between Emily and Daniel in the elevator. I think it was the first time since season 1 (maybe 2) that I really found Daniel interesting and even quite likeable. It would be nice to see him choosing the right side in the end, even after all the horrible things he's done for the last few years. Kudos to the wonderful cast and crew for the truly great episode!

SUPERNATURAL, "Fan Fiction", November 11, 2014, Actors: Jensen Ackles, Jared Padalecki and more, The Scene: Carry On My Wayward Son
Justyna Kubica:
Perfect! I absolutely loved 200th episode. It was exactly what I've been missing in the show lately. Couldn't have imagined a better celebration of such a milestone for the series. And Chuck! So many great scenes and references, they only made me miss the old characters even more. John, Mary, Bobby, Adam. Adam! I'm so glad that someone finally mentioned the poor guy! I really, really want to see Sam and Dean eventually finding a way to save him from the cage, even at the very end of the show. And despite many other great moments, my favorite has to be "Carry On My Wayward Son" song. It always had a special meaning to the fans, it's been with the show since season 1. And the words... they work so well with Winchesters' tragic story but still bring hope for a peaceful ending. Another beautiful thing about the scene is Dean and Sam's reaction to the song. The emotions written all over the faces. I was absolutely moved and charmed by the moment. It was so good to see more of Winchesters' brotherly love again, made me truly miss the series and gave me hope about its future episodes. For the first time in a long time, I can't wait to see what's next. Thank you to the amazing cast and crew, especially Jensen Ackles and Jared Padalecki for all the 200 episodes and keeping Dean and Sam's story alive. Here's to SPN Family, happy anniversary!
Klutzy girl: The scene where the girls sing "Carry on Wayward Son". It was a very emotional, well-done scene because Sam and Dean have been through a lot over two hundred episodes and they're still carrying on. And I thought their reaction to it was sweet.

THE 100, "Many Happy Returns", November 12, 2014, Actors: Eliza Taylor, Dichen Lachman, The Scene: Anya and Clarke fight
Daniel van der Veer:
Bitch fight on The 100! Well, sort of. This battle between Anya and Clarke was very intense and so epic. I loved every minute of it, and I was very much in doubt whether or not Clarke would kill Anya. I'm glad she didn't, it shows that she still has hope despite the dark things they have all been through.

THE BLACKLIST, "The Decembrist", November 10, 2014, Actors: James Spader, Ryan Eggold and more, The Scenes: Red talks to Tom & Red kills Berlin & Fitch tells Mike to go home
Jimmy Ryan:
James Spader delivered what I think is his best performance yet as Red on his hit series The Blacklist on Monday night. His presence on screen was incredible, and it culminated in the terrific closing scene of the year, as Red calls Tom to a bar, and gives perhaps the firmest demand I've ever seen one character give to another on television, to never see Liz again. It was an absolutely sensational bit of acting by Spader to close one of the series most outstanding episodes.
Diana Mack: Great midseason, James Spader is simply amazing. I liked the scene when Reddington and Berlin shares a bottle of vodka and Berlin reminds some stories from his past. Then, Reddington shots him to death and staying still. Amazing performance, I won't stop saying that. The music in the background completed the whole scene.
Bradley Adams: Fitch tells Mike to go home.

THE NEWSROOM, "Boston", November 9, 2014, Actors: Thomas Sadoski, Olivia Munn
The Scene: Sloan and Don argue about crosswords, puns, and double entendres (picked by Darth Locke)

THE VAMPIRE DIARIES, "Do You Remember the First Time?", November 13, 2014, Actors: Candice Accola, Nina Dobrev and more, The Scenes: Caroline and Stefan talk about "her thing" for him & The kiss in the rain
Tonya Papanikolas:
I was surprised earlier when Caroline's feelings were suddenly revealed to Stefan through Enzo and was honestly disappointed by the decision. But then I was pleasantly surprised by this scene between Caroline and Stefan. After seeing it, I thought the choice actually worked. The music in the scene set up a romantic vibe. And I loved Caroline as she embarrassingly had to confront her feelings in front of Stefan. It was great to see her admit all the reasons why she fell for him. And I loved how she said she still hated him because otherwise she'd have to hate herself. Caroline is a great character because she feels so strongly about everything - whether love or hate. And she's stubborn - so she's made up her mind to hate Stefan now (even though she's clearly fooling herself). Candice Accola was great in the scene. Plus, it set the stage for Stefan to now treat her better - and be aware of her and her feelings. It put things between them on a faster track.
Jamie Coudeville: The kiss in the rain. This was such a sweet scene. I never knew I needed this scene until I got it.

THE WALKING DEAD, "Self Help", November 9, 2014, Actors: Michael Cudlitz, Josh McDermitt, The Scene: Eugene admits he's not a scientist
Tonya Papanikolas:
Wow. This twist changed everything for the characters with him. He and his mission were giving them hope and a higher purpose. But then that purpose just disappeared in a second when they learned it was all a lie. Abraham's reaction was powerful. That purpose had kept him going after he lost everything. And so when he hears Eugene's admission, he loses it and beats Eugene like a crazy man. The scene was shocking and powerful.
DarkUFO: Abraham breaks down after learning that Eugene is a fake.

  8. TWD-that episode was powerful, I knew Eugene was a liar but I didnt expect Abrahams story to be so emotional. This season has been amazing so far.

SPN-the 200th episode was pure crap, no wonder Jensen and Jared were so unsure when they read the script. I hope the rumors that Jeremy Carver will leave at the end of this season are true, he has destroyed this show that I once loved. Problem is no other person working on the show can be trusted to deliver decent storylines and story telling. It starting to feel like its time to wrap up...well unless Jared and Jensen want to take a more active role in the show running side?

  11. It's too bad you hated this SPN episode like that. Even though I had (a lot of!) problems with the show for the last couple of years, I really enjoyed this one. Felt like the good old times. Though I do agree about the series reaching its end. I'd love to see the actors in something else, fingers crossed for them.

Castle - although I'm not that happy with the wedding. That fake scenery creeps the hell out of me. But they finally got married and it's my favorite show so it got my vote.

Supernatural - Carry On My Wayward Son !!! :´D ♥

  14. I have to say that I loved the Carry On Wayward Son scene in Supernatural and the final scene with the brothers in the Impala as Dean hangs the prop "Samulet" on the rearview mirror. There were no words spoken between the brothers and it was perfect.

    ReplyDelete
  15. The Clarke and Anya fight is easily my favorite fight scene outside of a comic show this season, or the last few seasons. It was gritty and brutal but it was fantastic.
As for Supernatural, I said when it aired that I wouldn't dwell on the negative because these guys have given us 200 episodes of characters we love. Through the ups, downs, WTF's and hell yeah's. Sam and Dean will forever be my favorite relationship, as ugly as it can be sometimes, and Dean will always be my favorite male character. I'm not insulting them now. I will say the biggest issue I had was them even giving lip service to that D fandom or Wincest. They wouldn't have gotten a thing from me. I honestly do not care how anyone feels about that.

    ReplyDelete
  16. Revealing the map is much more important than the one featured in the poll

    ReplyDelete
  17. About the issue: I didn't actually mind these scenes, cause for me they were done in a pretty funny way, plus Dean's reaction felt familiar ;) Also, there were so many things I liked about the episode that a few details wouldn't change my mind so easily ;)

    ReplyDelete
  18. True! Dean's reactions to everything were fun and familiar. I didn't hate the episode at all, I even teared up a few times. There were so many moments I did like, I didn't let those few take that away. I read the Gripe review here and backed right out of it. The fact that everyone feels so strongly about this show one way or another, is proof that they are loved.

    ReplyDelete
  19. Castle wedding:)
    Revenge:)

    ReplyDelete
  20. I happen to think both are pretty important. I'm excited to see what's going on with this city and Skye and how Ward's redemption arc is kickstarted. Not a competition.

    ReplyDelete
  21. Yeah, I don't read the gripe reviews at all. No need to feel negative about the show like that. I honestly avoid most of the comments/articles about Supernatural for a while now, I couldn't stand the constant fighting and all. I just really adore the Winchesters and focus on the positives. Love it whenever there's so much heart in their story.

Also, ditto about Dean being my favorite character (male or maybe just in general).

    ReplyDelete
  22. Arrow - Roy tells Oliver 'don't abandon me and Oliver says never'

    ReplyDelete
  23. Color me shocked about Eugene's reveal. I thought having Abraham with him made it an official type of mission.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Picked: How To get Away With Murder, Supernatural, 2 Broke Girls (that final scene was one of the most funniest scenes on the show)

Special mention pick: NCIS LA, Castle (the wedding was beautiful)

    ReplyDelete
  25. followed up with the "do you trust me?" "always" scene... actually love their mentor-mentee relationship

    ReplyDelete
  26. also a shout-out to Roy's awesome move that he uses on Stanszler

    ReplyDelete
  27. The Once Upon a Time, Person of Interest, Agents of Shield, The Walking Dead, and Supernatural scenes mentioned.

I don't share the love for the Supernatural 200th episode, but the girls singing the COWS song was nice.

Constantine - I agree 100%. So glad that scene made the list. That ending was so sad, well made and acted. Best episode yet.

    Other:

Forever - Henry decides to go into the bar and sit with his friends

Arrow - Oliver and Roy's scenes were best this week, I liked their friendship being focused on. The best scene was Oliver naming Roy's alter ego Arsenal, then having Roy mediate and Roy remembering it wasn't Sara he killed but a cop while he was under the influence of mirakuru drug.

The Originals - The ending scenes (Klaus finds Elijah/Klaus vs. Esther)

The Vampire Diaries: Damon finds Bonnie's teddy bear. He really cares about her. It'll be interesting to see what happens when she's back.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Honorable Mention to Arrow - Oliver knocking out Ted Grant with the boxing glove arrow. It was such a great nod to the comics and had me in stitches laughing.

  29. Delena Rain Kiss, such an epic moment, the best Delena moment. And both OUAT moments, both very emotional.

    ReplyDelete
  30. Omg Seriously! I agree! I was pissed the way Stefan found out through Enzo! That bothered me, but the ending! GAH! Steroline's talk was definitely MY scene of the week! I loved everything about it, and the fact that Stefan was still thinking about it after the fact she said she didn't want to discuss it any further, spoke VOLUMES! I loved the music, I loved her reasons, I loved just how honest they were in that moment. Yes Stefan, it's time to get back in her good graces (with a kiss hopefully) and realize YOUR feelings. Your head is no longer, "all over the place." ........I also agree with the Delena rain kiss, it was bittersweet. Second scene of the week.

Spn was my third vote. I did enjoy the episode (after fearing that I would hate it) and that scene was very touching.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Other: Damon realizes Bonnie is alive
From the list, I selected Revenge (Emily reveals her identity to David), The Blacklist (Conversation between Red and Tom and End scene of How to Get Away with Murder.
