POLL : What did you think of The Blacklist - Dr. Linus Creel?

  1. I've always found mind-control movies or shows interesting, but when the brilliant David Costabile (Damages, Breaking Bad, Suits) plays Dr. Linus Creel it's amazingly fun to watch! And just to add a level of fun he's a Trichotillomaniac! XD

    Vargas returns! XD
Red's associates can be so fun (see Mr Kaplan and Vargas) and now we have been introduced to The Polyglot! Odd note.. I took a class called "Polyglot" in junior high school that was basically an intro to foreign languages.... I don't recall deciphering redacted documents. XD

The little things Spader does are just so brilliant!
The small pauses or sideways glances before delivering a line or in this case a simple pause and look around before knocking on Haskell's door a second time.. This is the one actor on network TV that deserves to be nominated for awards... If not win awards!

What's in the box Liz? What's in the box? Is Tom in the box, Liz?
Okay, maybe behind a locked door in this case.

I find the concept of Liz Keen holding Tom prisoner for interrogation absolutely fascinating! It fits in with a lot we have seen this season...
    - It helps explain Liz looking ragged and tired since she has been up late torturing Tom.
    - Ressler's comment about how Liz has changed may be more accurate than he knows.
    - It solves the mystery of who Liz's intel source is
    - It fits the typical Blacklist misdirection with Hal Ozsan being her stalker, not Tom. Well more of a hidden bodyguard than a stalker in reality, but I digress....

This was a bit of a slow burner episode for me. More about things not directly related to TCOW and more connected with the myth arc. It set up some arcs rather nicely and it did provide an answer or two, but while interesting, overall it was only very good or "great" for me.

  2. I actually thought this was lackluster compared to the strong eps so far this season. In true Blacklist fashion in spite of the promo we got no answers (not even a misdirection) At this rate progress will be going so slowly that the story will be going backwards. I do hope that the Red/Liz partnership warms up soon...

  3. Ugh, looks like we got no answers about Liz's past AGAIN. Seriously, what's the point of announcing "the pieces are finally connecting" in the promo when you're not even going to give us any answers whatsoever? You just end the episode with Liz sitting in a chair with a beer on one hand and swinging keys on the other looking straight at a mystery door that we are probably never going to see again until the mid season finale? I'm just going to go ahead and assume that she is keeping Tom prisoner. You're giving me false hope and that's pissing me off, show.

Also, Naomi knew about Liz, and that Red pulled something to work with her.

  6. This episode was kind of scary............like "government drones" flying over your house scary, but a excellent episode nevertheless. The more information revealed about Red the more fascinating he becomes, but still in the dark on who is Elizabeth Keen is. Excellent episode..........I still miss Agent Malik. 4 RED'S TOP TEN HITS, I am Nobody!!!

  7. I like the blacklist more when they balance between the serialized baddie of the week and the over arcing storylines. This episode focused more on the case and gave us almost nothing. I kind of blame the promo for raising my hopes. We know Tom is locked up in there. Just show us 😧

  8. liz, liz, liz you're becoming more and more like your father red, and what's behind the door and she looked really badass sitting like that, still loving hal ozsan even though he didn't have any lines

  9. Okay so my question is... How important are Liz's genetics, misdirection or key information??

  10. Okay, look. I'm not at all interested in Liz--in her keeping her boring a** husband Tom in the basement, in who her parents are, in her new hair cut. Really everything about her is completely uninteresting. If they don't up the quantity of Red in the show, or give her something interesting to do in which she actually does some thinking on her own, I'm going to move it to the DVR list. Red is awesome. Just let James Spader carry the show.

  11. Two words to describe the greatness of this show. JAMES SPADER. There I said it . It needed to be said. AWARDS should be given immediately to his talent and acting genius.

  12. Loved the scene with Vargas and the dog. ;)

They are kinda treating this show like Twin Peaks and the who killed Laura mystery, IMO. We may never find out the relationship until the show ends. However, it is fun to hypothesize and guess. My new hypothesis is that Liz is Red's kid from some other form of relationship. That whole quip from the ex-wife about how Red arranged to be in Liz's sphere....was a golden tell.

  14. I'm wondering too...
The DNA testing results should be in the file of course, but maybe there was something else more personal that Samar was referring to?

The DNA test results are the obvious first choice though...

  15. Very true.

Regarding Red and Liz at the time we really only had Red's word to go on, but I think Carla/Naomi's statement is more definitive.

We were told Red and Carla had one daughter. If that daughter is named Jennifer, was in witness protection until seven years ago, and now she is off WitSec's radar in the wind somewhere it is highly unlikely that person could be Liz.

However, just because Liz is not Carla aka Naomi Reddington's daughter does not mean she is not Red's. daughter. Like others have said, Red could be Liz's father by another woman.

Like many people I initially thought Red was Liz's father, but the longer it goes unanswered the more I think he is not her father in any way. I'm still not 100% sure based on the meager evidence we have, but it is hard to prove a negative.

  16. As far as I recall there are not a lot of female characters we have met that are in the right age range to be Jennifer. Of those women, I don't think any of them make sense to be Jennifer... Red seems to know so much about the people the task force encounters I find it unlikely he would not know when they encountered his daughter.

  17. Ok, finally felt a spike of irritation last night over all the teased secrets. I do like the show but I am now really tired of vague, empty, hinted at, alluded to, interrupted " revelatiions". Jimminy cricket, just give us something instead of all this bogus string pulling. Wow, two Pinocchio references in one comment.

  18. Oh yes! everything is coming together and it's just episode 4!
Red always have an agenda when he sends Liz for someone and this was was to see her "criminal" tendencies, pretty inetresting plot that one. The way that a person can snap if everything falls appart. Some cry, some yell but hey this ones just go for the kill.
Naomy knows a lot but she cant betray Red and she didnt tell Liz anything cause she preffer him to be the one.
Oh yeah! this is what i wanted! exactly how i imagine. Now show me Tom in that room Lizzie. SHOW IT!

  19. Why are viewers so impatient? If we have all the answers, the show is over and I don't want it to be over...not for a long, long, long time! Go with it...it's fun watching the secret slowly unravel!

  20. Agreed.

My first thought after the pilot was, "I hope they do not reveal the true relationship between Red and Liz for at least a few seasons."

That mystery feels to me like it is central to "Act I" of the series. It needs to remain a mystery to keep the dynamic between the leads in place and should be revealed as part of Act I's finale. that revelation should be a game changer and begin the next stage of the series. It should not be rushed to appease fans.

  21. Wait...am I the only one to think that the medical file Liz received near the end of the episode, confirms that she has the "killer gene"? Does this also have something to do with her connection to Red?

    ReplyDelete
  22. No, I thought that too.
I think some of us just wrote DNA test results instead of "Killer" gene test results.
    *Shrug*

  23. what kind of blood relation are we talking about ? i think father daughter would have been better. Hopefully the writter will come up with a better plot than father daughter relation:)

  24. I could get on board with a Uncle/niece relationship too!
