  1. Hell yeah!!! The first step for Laurel to become the Black Canary!!!

  2. Interesting. Laurel seems angry.

  3. Nice one! Like Ted Grant, the only bad remark he read Laurel a bit too easy! But that is probably part of his charm. Looking forward to his arc.

  4. Ok i dont know a thing about the American lawyers but do DAs investigate break-ins in the US?

  5. rI like him. He has good screen presence. Looks like a great actor. I hope Laurel's emotions are not limited to just anger in the coming episodes. It will get old fast. Also please stop with the lawyer stuff.

  6. he was quite solid and intriguing in Emily Owens MD, Think he's the right choice to get Laurel's story going.

  7. He should be older. Yeah he definitely should. lol I take back what i said a month or so ago. To someone on here, can't remember which one, but you know who you are. Looking at the pics is one thing, but watching a scene with him in it, just changed my entire thinking. But yeah, he was ok, i can deal. I'll concentrate more on him anyway.

  8. This is the first time I am seeing him. My first impression is excellent. Good expressions and dialogue delivery. I am happy.

  9. To think MG was a lawyer/ was studying to be one? I think it's a good thing he changed his career trajectory. Everything on this show regarding Laurel being a lawyer is painfully wrong (eg. Laurel being allowed to prosecute Moira? Um no)

  10. ignoring all the anti-Laurel comments that will inevitably come but I'm really liking this scene.
Excited for their scenes, liking Ted so far :D

    Black Canary is coming ^^

And there I originally was only excited for the Thea/Merlyn stuff.

Overall it is generally the season where I'm more interested in the side characters than the main team

  11. I tried to give it a chance and watch and try to think of something nice to say but the video is not working lol (THANK GOD)

  12. Why isn't the video working? It's not playing or it's not there?

  13. This isn't where you learn, unless you want to hide it from Oliver. But in that world that type of fighting is nearly qualifying, not Elite.

Looks like a good addition to the cast and for the writers to build Laurel up to be Black Canary. Can't remember the last time I enjoyed a TV show like this...One thing that they probably should do is give Dig a suit. Don't read the comic books but is there a suited sidekick that Dig could fill, anyone???

  15. Not playing on PC and on mobile "This plug-in is not supported".

  16. I know that this is part of setting the stage of Laurel becoming BC, but I hope that they'll give us a reasonable bit of reasonable belief that she is exceptionally gifted or gets trained by an exceptional teacher and not just that she all of a sudden becomes this awesome fighter after a few months training in a gym, as the BC was a master of martial arts/self defense and Sara was believable as she was trained for years by the LoA. It's even a bit of a stretch that Roy would be this good after 5-6 months (which is what I think the time jump from last season) but I'm willing to give some leeway as he is being trained by Oliver (and maybe Diggle) as well as Thea as she is being trained by her father...

  17. the badge confuses me. I'm hoping the actress can pull off the new edge they're adding. much more interesting story for Laurel on the horizons it seems.

  18. Great! I'm looking forward this storyline!

  22. damn i actually like grant and here is the first step into laurel becoming the black canary, she'll do her sister's mantle justice

    ReplyDelete
  23. Hmmmm... I like him and i'm sure his ways are going to get Laurel quite pissed. Laurel is a justice seeker who sees the world on black and white; while he's a guy who lives in a world of shades, who will lie to protect what he thinks it's the right way.

When you do the first meeting of two characters you always do it a certain way for the viewer to know what's the basis of it and how it's gonna play. I like this set up, since he will make Laurel question the world she lives. She has the rage and the tragedy, but she still lacks the mental state to be a vigilante; she thinks about Justice by Law or either Cold Blooded Revenge... She needs to understand what Oliver does, that doing justice on her own is ok. I guess this character could make her see this.

Also, they seem to work well together. That's always a plus. I would still would have love if they went with an older guy(I know it's theCW but there are men in their 40s who still look great and if they want to go with the romance thing, could still be done).

Call it masochistic but I'd like to see him really break her down - not necessarily to the point of repeating Sara and Olivers whole "they came back a killer" vibe from the island but somewhere in that stratosphere. Then build her back up again so that she is kick ass and believable as Black Canary. I'm assuming that she will probably be in the full suit - albeit hopefully a more comfortable one that what Caity Lotz wore; by seasons end. If she is completely focused and immersed in the role of honoring her sister and fighting the bad guys maybe then everyone can get on board with her in this role!! She is a good actress just got a bad storyline last season!!!

  27. Well, I like Ted from the little I've now seen of him and I like that he has a few shades of grey to him that might rub off on Laurel's way of looking at the world. I can understand that she's in full on anger mode, it's probably the only thing keeping her together at this point and not sending her straight to some booze. I need to see more of their dynamic together to judge, but I'm ok with what I'm seeing so far.

    ReplyDelete
  28. I'm not quite sure what to think here. I neither want to go "Woo! Awesome!" or "Ugh, go away". Jury is still out I guess, need to see more scenes.

But damn it CW, he should have been older. If you're going to give him material like that with lying to protect street kids he should give a father figure vibe. They write such awesome father figure scenes for Flash after all.

    ReplyDelete
  29. If you have seen her as Ruby 1.0 on Supernatural, u know she will make a great Black Canary... I think even better than Caity Lotz.

I always tought for Season 1 she was bad written and that also she can't play a lawyer on tv... And Season 2 was about re-tooling her storyline for becoming Black Canary, and while some people didn't liked it, the point was to break her, make her befriend with Sara again and then, when things were great, take Sara away from Laurel... That's how vigilantes are born. It was very well written. I don't think Katie Cassidy was in her element playing a lawyer(If you have seen Gina Torres' Jessica Pearson on SUITS you'll see the diference)... The scene on 2x14 when she screams and Oliver, she played it perfectly 'cause that's what Cassidy is great at(in her defense, he and Sara were a bunch of assholes there... And you see when she goes to make amends with her and she tells him "you can go" with a murderous look, i loved that... 'cause this guy gave her shit before the island, comes back a "changed man" and does the same shit? They clearly have a problem with each other when comes to romance, too much water under the bridge). Little by little the writers will let her play a sarcastic, bitchy and badass asskicker(She did a great job as Ruby, like i said before).

The way she was written on Season 1, she becoming Black Canary was more tied with Oliver and their tragic love. When they realize the audience and the actors weren't quite responding to that, they choose to retool everything. If you take notice, if you like writing and know a thing or two, you will realize the Season 2 premiere(and the first couple of episodes) was about making the ground for what had worked on Season 1 and taking what didn't on another direction.

I'm pretty excited about her storyline as you may see Jajajaja

  30. I know right? Even if they go the romantic way(don't think it's what the character of Laurel needs right now... But hey, it's theCW after all. U know, Gossip Girl's network...), it could happen with an older man; in it's own universe it could have been more interesting, actually. I don't mind they changing canon, since they changed it a lot already.

If theCW produces a show about two asexual people, there's still be romance between them somehow... cause it's theCW Jajaja

  31. Thanks but I think I'll just wait and see it in the episode no need to watch it twice lol

Wildcat trained Batman, Superman, Catwoman and others besides Dinah, so yes, this great although kiddish Ted will work his part.

    Totally agree.

  34. And Dinah herself went on to learn from several different people after Ted. He just started her on the path to the world class martial artist she later became.

  35. Ugh, I really hope the CW surprises me and there's no romance. Probably a snowballs chance in hell, but...

Changing canon is a tricky thing. As I've mentioned before in a discussion with O D A. I believe the reason you originally chose to do an adapation of an existing story as opposed to writing something new and original is that there are somethings in that orginal story that works and should not be tinkered with. If you want to tell something completly different you use new and original characters. It's very arbitary as alternative versions can just as well respect what came before as it can spit on it.

Thea is a good example of a change that while being something totally new an different still contains a few elements from the original story. She's Oliver's sister and not a former teenage prostitute named Mia Dearden. Yet Thea's middle name is Dearden (told during her trial in S1) and both girls have the nickname "Speedy" and eventually train to become asskickers. The archetype of the young female vigilante is still connected to the story albeit through a slightly different path. This to me respects canon while still offering a new take.

Malcolm is another change that retains many element of the original character he was based on. Sure he looks different and does not have a weird beard. But he's still Oliver's nemeis, the Dark Archer trained by the League of Assassins who destroys the city after a fight on a rooftop. The basic archetype of the dark mirror archer is mostly preserverd.

Arrow has generally been good with this and you can tell that the EP's have good knowledge of and care for the source material they are adapting.

Turning the archetype of an elder mentor and family friend ("Uncle Ted" to the young Dinah) into a young hunk because they Must.Have.Romance.Subplots so shippers fight on social media and make the show "trend" as seem to be the case with Ted Grant changes the relationship and the dynamic into something completly different. Even if on the cover it still saysTed "Wildcat" Grant training Dinah Laurel Lance.

  36. Oh, I agree with everything but the story isn't an adaptation, per se; they're not taking "The Death of Oliver Queen" and "Quiver" and make an adaptation of that. As said on the credits: "Based on the characters by DC". They took some characters and make their own story.

What i meant is theCW is a network known for "teen drama romances". One thing i believe the Oliver/Laurel thing never worked out was 'cause theCW got his hand on the project... They tought people will dig a couple with a toxic past and a toxic present(Look at one of theCW's "best couples" being Chair from GG, like i said... That was hideous) but it backfired.

I like romance, since it's a big part of the hero's tale on literature, but when they made a lot of mistakes writing that: He slept with her sister and was a womanizer but he "changed" after his crucible to come back a new man... but that new man did the same thing again and went to rub that in her face and to tell her that she blame other's for her problems(really? they fucked that romance all by themselves).

Now they have their lead actress without a Plan B in the romance department, and rest asure that if this Wildcat romance doesn't pay off in the end we will have another, and another, and another until someone sticks with the fandom like Olicity or Roy/Thea(no idea what's their fan name Jaja).

It's theCW... You just need to step aside and know that it will have it's big dose of romance. You can see it on The Flash too, that they're making Barry have puppy eyes with both Iris and Caitlin, just because... wich it's stupid 'cause they also have Ronnie Raymond. But their tought is "Woah! We can have TWO love triangles!(Barry-Iris-Eddie and Barry-Caitlin-Ronnie)".

I already knew all of this, so i rest my mind that the Laurel-Ted romance is gonna happen, like it or not. If this was a CBS/NBC/ABC/FOX show all that bats**t romance would never happened. Just look at Gotham were romance is treated on a more mature way and with less "teen drama".
