Scene Of The Week - May 11, 2014 - POLL

11 May 2014

A weekly feature in which we're trying to find most compelling, best acted, written, directed and just generally great scenes that we've seen recently.

2 BROKE GIRLS, "And the First Degree", May 5, 2014, Actors: Kat Dennings and more
The Scene: Max graduates
Samy Bgs:
Max graduates and her friends are there with her to celebrate. For one minute, I really thought Max's mom was gonna show up but I was even happier when I saw her friends enter the room!

ARROW, "Streets of Fire", May 7, 2014, Actors: Emily Bett Rickards, Stephen Amell
The Scene: Felicity's speech
Justyna Kubica:
Felicity is such a great character. Smart, funny and a generally good person who doesn't give up easily. Her speech this week is not the first time she motivates Oliver to keep fighting but it's certainly one of the most memorable moments for both the character and the talented actress portraying her. Emily Bett Rickards quite perfectly shows all the emotions, the faults and strengths of Ms. Smoak watching Starling City being destroyed once again. Despite not knowing how to beat the enemy she still encourages the Arrow to honor the dead and fight for the living. I really enjoy the friendship between Oliver and Felicity. It seems to be one of the most constant and solid relationships for Queen which often motivates him to keep trying. And that's probably why I hope whatever the writers plan for these two, their dynamic will remain one of the show's biggest strengths. "You honor the dead by fighting. And you are not done fighting!" Go, team Arrow! Can't wait for the finale.

BATES MOTEL, "The Immutable Truth", May 5, 2014, Actor: Freddie Highmore, The Scene: Norman takes the polygraph test and hallucinates
Geo N: Great scene and a perfect ending to a perfect season finale. Can't wait for season 3!
Sandi wich: I love how they have been slowly building Norman's identity disorder this season, the breaks from reality when he was kidnapped and then again during the polygraph are very well written and thought out. Can't wait to see where they go next year!
Also picked by Sharon Seymour, Darth Locke and DarkUFO

CASTLE, "Veritas", May 5, 2014, Actors: Stana Katic, Jack Coleman and more, The Scene: Kate arrests Bracken
Tonya Papanikolas: I loved this scene for its acting, its significance and its emotional punch. Stana Katic was phenomenal in this scene. You could see the emotion in her eyes as she finally gets to bring justice to her mother's case and arrest the man who has gotten away with murder for so long. The circumstances were perfect, too, as Senator Bracken can't escape since he's in the middle of an interview. He is caught and there's nothing for him to do. On top of that, all the cameras are rolling and photographing so it makes it extra sweet for Beckett. Now the whole world can see who this man really is and what he did to her mother. Beckett's patience with the case paid off and Beckett finally has closure for her mother's murder. The scene (and entire episode) was worth the wait. It has been a long time coming but it was so well done. Katic played the scene with the perfect amount of emotion and satisfaction and confidence. I felt the relief and happiness for Beckett! Well done.
Jamie Coudeville: This is a moment we've all been waiting for since the beginning of the show. She finally arrests the man who is responsible for her mom's death. The scene was just perfect. Also picked by Ann-Sophie Hamel, Virginia Fontana

FARGO, "Eating the Blame", May 6, 2014, Actors: Billy Bob Thornton, Colin Hanks and more
The Scenes: Gus arrests Lorne & Malvo being interviewed at the police station
Sharon Seymour:
Gus arrests Lorne.
DarkUFO: Malvo being interviewed at the police station. Convinces the police he's a pastor.

GAME OF THRONES, "First of His Name", May 4, 2014, Actors: Gwendoline Christie, Daniel Portman
The Scene: Podrick and Brienne bond
Sandi wich:
Both characters have become quite popular, and likeable, in their previous pairings with the two Lannisters, but now they have been thrust together and have taken on the task that the brothers cannot undertake themselves. It was lovely to see them both opening up to each other, they will have to trust each other a great deal in the future so it's good to see that bond starting now. Also picked by Darth Locke

HANNIBAL, "Kō No Mono", May 9, 2014, Actors: Hugh Dancy, Mads Mikkelsen and more
The Scenes: Hannibal and Will eat an Ortolan Bunting & Freddie Lounds is revealed to be alive
Geo N:
The scene with Hannibal and Will in the beginning of the episode during which they eat an Ortolan Bunting whole. It was such a great scene, I had to look up the dish...which made my stomach turn...to see if that was an actual meal...and unfortunately for the Ortolan Bunting it is. Anyway, the back and forth between Hannibal and his new protege, Will, was incredible. The look on Will's face when he ate the bird was priceless. I love their scenes together and am so glad it got renewed for a season 3! Also picked by DarkUFO
Darth Locke: Freddie Lounds is revealed to be alive!

HART OF DIXIE, "Stuck", May 9, 2014, Actors: Rachel Bilson, Wilson Bethel
The Scene: Wade tells Zoe he's moving to Atlanta
Tracie Pontolillo:
The final scene between Wade and Zoe when he comes to thank her for helping with his father and tells her that he will be moving away to Atlanta for work. It has been a long season waiting for things to finally move back toward Wade and Zoe and it is finally happening. Both Wade and Zoe looked really sad at the prospect of him moving away even though Wade is happy about the job opportunity. There was a long awkward pause where it seemed like they were both waiting for the other to say more. There was so much emotion in just the looks they shared and in what was left unsaid.

MARVEL'S AGENTS OF SHIELD, "Ragtag", May 6, 2014, Actors: Brett Dalton, Iain De Caestecker, Elizabeth Henstridge, The Scene: Ward takes care of Fitz and Simmons
Justyna Kubica:
Unexpected, scary, heartbreaking. There's a lot of words I could use to describe this scene. I like that we're getting to know Ward and see how complex and multidimensional character he can be. He's not brainwashed like some of us were guessing when it was first revealed he's from Hydra, he's someone who's made a lot of bad choices and trusted the wrong people. And we can finally see he actually cares, at least on some level about Coulson's team members, he could have easily shot FitzSimmons but instead he chose to drop them in the ocean which I guess leaves them with a chance to survive. Unfortunately it's hardly a progress. If he's going to survive the season and not become a true villain, he has a long and painful road of redemption ahead of him. Fitz, on the other hand, was absolutely brillaint in the episode, the way he kept encouraging Ward to pick a right side for once was very emotional and beautifully portrayed by the actor. I also loved him with the EMP device earlier. He nearly managed to defeat Garrett and that's quite an impressive achievement. Anyway, brilliant scene, great performances by the actors. Can't wait for the finale!

MELISSA AND JOEY, "Right Time, Right Place", May 7, 2014, Actors: Melissa Joan Hart, Joey Lawrence and more, The Scene: Joe proposes to Mel
Klutzy girl:
I figured out his plan when he called the kids down and gave Ryder a watch. I love that he planned the perfect proposal for when they were home and in front of their kids. I also adore that it was Ryder (and not Lennox) who squealed when Joe took the ring box out of the bag. And as for the proposal itself? It was adorable, and will go down as one of my favorite TV proposals.

NCIS LOS ANGELES, "Exposure", May 6, 2014, Actors: Barrett Foa, Renée Felice Smith
The Scene: Nell and Eric exchange post-it notes
Tonya Papanikolas:
Nell and Eric exchange post-it notes expressing their feelings for each other. What a fun scene that was so well done. Barrett Foa and Renee Felice Smith made us laugh and sit on the edge of our seats as Nell and Eric reacted to each other's notes. Even though we didn't get to see what was written on the notes, their reactions were priceless - their facial expressions were so animated in expressing their shock. I loved it! Their reactions were the best part of the scene. It had everyone guessing what in the world they could have written. I still want to know.

ONCE UPON A TIME, "Kansas", May 4, 2014, Actors: Lana Parrilla, Ginnifer Goodwin and more
The Scenes: Regina uses light magic to defeat Zelena & The family gathers to meet Baby Nolan
Samy Bgs:
I was so glad that it didn't turn out to be another "Emma saves them all". Regina's the best.
Klutzy girl: The family gathers to meet Baby Nolan in the hospital after he's been saved. It was so cute, and I'm looking forward to more of these moments soon.

ORPHAN BLACK, "Governed as It Were by Chance", May 10, 2014, Actor: Tatiana Maslany
The Scene: Helena saves Sarah
Jamie Coudeville:
OMG the acting in this scene is amazing. Sarah's look of terror when she sees Helena covered in blood. Helena begging her for help. This is my favorite scene so far this season.

PERSON OF INTEREST, "A House Divided", May 6, 2014, Actors: Michael Emerson and more
The Scene: The Court is in session
Justyna Kubica:
Wow! Since it's Person Of Interest and we're so close to the finale I was preparing myself for some crazy twists and turns ahead of us, but what happened at the end of this week's episode really shocked me. "The Court is in session". Not only there are so many important characters gathered at the same place but it certainly looks like they're gonna be watched and judged by the public or at the very least by the Vigilance. It's a terrifying thought, especially considering Finch is one of the people "on trial" but the potential of this storyline and its consequences (for example: Isn't Grace gonna watch this?!) honestly amaze me at this point. I can't wait for the Team Machine to come to the rescue but I am also excited to see everyone interacting with each other. Something tells me it's gonna be absolutely brilliant. Can't wait to see the finale!

REIGN, "Long Live the King", May 8, 2014, Actors: Alan van Sprang and more
The Scene: Henry talks to his ghost brother about killing Francis
Sandi wich:
Henry has gone completely insane now, the show has done very well at building up to this moment over the past couple of months so this rant about wanting to invade England, murder his son and marry Mary is totally believable. Van Sprang is surely going to die in the finale next week after this outrageous plan of his goes terribly wrong, and I for one am going to miss him a great deal.

REVENGE, "Impetus", May 4, 2014, Actors: Henry Czerny, Emily VanCamp, Christa B. Allen
The Scenes: Emily finally gets her revenge on Conrad & Conrad confesses his involvement to Charlotte
Pablozky21:
I've never been as satisfied with this show as I was with this whole episode. For long I've known that Emily had to get some or I'd be disappointed, and not just a random guy. This is the big one, the one I have been waiting for, and it is so deliciously gratifying to finally see it on display that I can't even begin to describe the joy I had once the episode was finished, all I wanted to do was to go to the roof and shout "REVENGE!" until the end of times. Surely my favorite episode of the series so far- and the best episode of this television season for me- and proof that the show knows how to shake things up and deliver and incredible moment.
Samy Bgs: Finally we'd been waiting for so long for this! Though I thought she was going to kill him but well... maybe later? Also picked by Jamie Coudeville
Ann-Sophie Hamel: Conrad confesses his involvement to Charlotte. It was just some awesome acting on Henry Czerny's part.

THE 100, "Day Trip", May 7, 2014, Actors: Bobby Morley, Isaiah Washington and more
The Scene: Bellamy's hallucinations
Pablozky21:
This week's episode wasn't as great as previous one, but one great moment was to see Bellamy confronting the ghost of the people who got killed when he stole the radio. We've been shown the darkest side of him so it's great that we get to see that he's not actually a monster, and that he has a conscience, it surely makes him a complex character, a very likeable one in my opinion.

THE AMERICANS, "Stealth", May 7, 2014, Actors: Lee Tergesen, Wrenn Schmidt
The Scene: Larrick kills Kate (picked by Sharon Seymour)

THE BIG BANG THEORY, "The Gorilla Dissolution", May 8, 2014, Actors: Johnny Galecki, Kaley Cuoco
The Scene: Penny and Leonard get engaged
Pablozky21:
Honestly, this was the weirdest proposal I've seen in television ever, and I've seen plenty. It's somewhat fitting that it comes up while fighting reflecting the "will they/won't they" dynamic Leonard and Penny always had, and it's great that the show seems to finally sway one way. It comes up with a lot of laugh carried by great acting by both Kaley and Johnny, and it is proof of how far these character have come, even while they fight about silly things.

THE BLACKLIST, "Berlin (No. 8)", May 5, 2014, Actors: James Spader, Megan Boone
The Scene: Red talks to Liz at the end
Geo N:
Red is trying to win Liz back to his side at the very end of the episode as the FBI is closing in around them in the park and he is on his knees with his hands on his head. The plane that had a busted engine and wing flying over head as it was about to crash off-screen was great in how it brought the two story lines together. It actually reminded me of the scene from LOST when John saw Mr. Eko's plane crash-landing in the same manner.

THE MENTALIST, "Il Tavolo Bianco", May 4, 2014, Actors: Simon Baker, Robin Tunney, Rockmond Dunbar
The Scenes: Abbott implies to Jane he's believing his own con & The last scene
Virginia Fontana:
The last scene with Jane and Lisbon, when he told her he just wants her to be happy. After he left, she wiped away a tear. Yet another beautifully acted, bittersweet scene between the two of them lately.
Tonya Papanikolas: The scene where Abbott implies to Jane he's believing his own con (about his feelings for Lisbon). This was a great scene because Jane needed a little push in regards to doing something about Lisbon. Abbott essentially called Jane out on his b.s. Abbott asks Jane how long he's going to let "that" go, meaning Lisbon and Pike's relationship. Then he tells Jane that con artists believing their own cons leads to their downfall. Jane says that won't happen because there's no con here. But there is. He's conning himself into thinking he doesn't care for Lisbon and doesn't need to say anything to her about their relationship or how he feels about her. I love that Abbott basically told Jane (without words) that he's full of it and hinted to Jane that that attitude was a con. It obviously, worked, too because Jane later went to visit Lisbon at home. Here is to hoping that he tells her more than just he wants her to be happy.

THE MINDY PROJECT, "Danny and Mindy", May 6, 2014, Actors: Mindy Kaling, Chris Messina
The Scene: Mindy and Danny confess their love on top of the Empire State Building
Klutzy girl:
Mindy and Danny meet each other and confess their love on top of the Empire State Building. Even the music choice was perfect. The "Because you love it and I love you" line will be stuck in my head forever. Also picked by Virginia Fontana

Agents Of SHIELD - All the geek reactions by Coulson & "The file transfer" - Love this guy ;)

    And more :)

Best scene was definitely the one of orphan black with sarah and helena ( finally together again). I dont think there's any limites to Tatiana maslany acting talent. The scene reminded me of those chilling Breaking bad moments.

  7. Orphan black gets my vote. That off screen fight was incredible, and the look of fear on Sarah's face when Helena walked in was chilling. "YOU WERE DEAD!"

    ReplyDelete
  8. Other: Once Upon A Time - Rumple proposes to Belle!
Can't believe that scene wasn't included on the list!

    ReplyDelete
  9. Well, I wanted to add it to my list but what followed the proposal made me not want to add it. ( him actually lying to her about the dagger )

  10. I just can't choose either of the Mentalist scenes- I just don't see any romantic/sexual chemistry with Jane and Lisbon....

  19. The 3 scenes that were most memorable to me this week are from Once Upon a Time (Regina using light magic), Person of Interest (the court), & The Blacklist (Red & Liz).

  20. Me too! And Michael Weatherly is such a fine diverse actor, he deserves so much more than the scripts he's been given of late. Here's hoping for a lot more of where this came from in season 12!

Hell i which she could've hit her again! TEAM ARROW FTW! Also voted, Melissa and Joey, Joe proposes to Mel! Sooo freaking cute! And such a Mel response, "Yes, you jackass." 26. Poor Ortolan Bunting! I had to see on YouTube actual chefs preparing this 'meal' (even if it seems banned now in the UE).

    ReplyDelete
  27. Castle - Kate arresting Bracken is by far my favorite scene of the week & the year 2014, not only because us Castle/Kate Beckett fans have been waiting for this scene for 6 seasons, but also because the scene (the whole episode in fact) was executed brilliantly & featured some top-notch acting..especially from Stana Katic. Castle being my long time No.1 favorite show might make this a slightly biased decision, but the brilliance of the episode (barring a few minor plot holes/errors) is undeniable.

Now that the Kate's mother's murder, which was the overreaching arc on Castle since Season 1, is officially closed (barring maybe a few probable legal issues arising due to Bracken refusing to go down without a fight), I am really excited to see what Andrew Marlowe & co do with Season 7.

The Tomorrow People: Roger dies, the scene on the roof between John/Astrid (the kiss), and Stephen saves Cara with his new ability to go back in time.

    The Originals: The closing scenes

The Vampire Diaries: As a well shot/acted/sad scene - Stefan dies. He better not be gone long though!

    Honorable Mention:

Warehouse 13: Pete's face when Kelly says he loves Myka; Steve's split personalities

  29. so many amazing scenes this week!! one of my favorites was Hart of Dixie when Wade told Zoe he was moving to Atlanta *gross sobbing*

  30. The Mindy project Mindy x Danny

  31. It's obvious, Mindy has an fabolous finale and that scene was awesome!

  32. I am a massive Once Upon a Time fan but this week I had to vote for the Orphan Black scene between Sarah and Helena. My favourite OUAT scene wasn't on here unfortunately as I thought the moment when Henry tells Regina he believe's in her now she need's to believe in herself was far stronger and more poignant than the two mentioned here.
