Scene Of The Week - April 13, 2014 - POLL

13 Apr 2014

A weekly feature in which we're trying to find most compelling, best acted, written, directed and just generally great scenes that we've seen recently.

BATES MOTEL, "Plunge", April 7, 2014, Actors: Freddie Highmore, Vera Farmiga, Olivia Cooke and more
The Scenes: Norman saves Emma's life & Norman tells Norma that he's not a little boy
Darth Locke:
Norman saves Emma's life and fiercely scolds Cody. Also picked by Sharon Seymour
Macie Potts: Norman tells Norma that he's not a little boy and she can't keep him locked up in the house forever. Also picked by DarkUFO

ELEMENTARY, "No Lack of Void", April 10, 2014, Actors: Jonny Lee Miller, Roger Rees
The Scene: Sherlock at his friend's grave
Justyna Kubica:
Sherlock's emotional moments are definitely something this show excels at and this scene is no exception. Confronted by the truth about his old friend's death Holmes learns how to say goodbye to a loved one. It's a hard struggle, especially considering the fact that after 30 years of being clean Alistair died of overdose. Sherlock, being ex-addict and a detective always trying to solve every mystery he finds, can't help but wonder what could have had the crucial effect on someone like this, what could have made him break down and push him into taking drugs again. At the end, in the final scene of the hour, Sherlock realizes that maybe, in this case, he shouldn't focus on the "why" or take it too personally, understanding his friend's action had nothing to do with him, he didn't let him down. And in this beautifully portrayed by Jonny Lee Miller moment, Holmes admits he loved Alistair and that he's going to miss him dearly. Lovely music, powerful performance, real emotions and great dialogue - all make a very special scene. Easily one of my favorites this week.
Jimmy Ryan: This was an outstanding episode. The case was really good, but it was outshone by the really moving interactions between Sherlock and Alistair's spirit in the final scene of the episode. I didn't think Elementary would ever venture into areas like hallucinations or spirits but the way it was executed in this episode made me glad to be proven wrong.

GAME OF THRONES, "Two Swords", April 6, 2014, Actors: Maisie Williams, Rory McCann and more
The Scene: Arya gets Needle back
Sandi wich:
It was a chilling scene, leaving the audience to wonder where the hell the sweet young Stark girl has gone. She is at rock bottom if she can be this cold hearted in her revenge, is there going to be any hope for her salvation in the future after murdering Polliver? Brilliant performance by young Maisie Williams, it's easy to see why she's a fan favourite when she is so consistently pulling off such intensity and maturity in her scenes. She has a long and successful career ahead of her I'm sure.
Darth Locke: Arya and the Hound kill all the people in the establishment. Needle is returned to her.

GREY'S ANATOMY, "I'm Winning", April 10, 2014, Actors: Sara Ramirez, Jessica Capshaw
The Scene: Callie and Arizona decide to have another baby
Klutzy girl:
Callie and Arizona decide they want to have another baby. I figured this was coming since the "Arizona was pregnant and miscarried" reveal, but it's still exciting. Can't wait to see what happens next with them!

GRIMM, "The Law of Sacrifice", April 11, 2014, Actors: Claire Coffee, Sasha Roiz and more
The Scene: Adalind realizes her baby's gone
Justyna Kubica:
First of all, I know Adalind is not a good person. She's done many, many evil things in her life and her actions hurt a lot of people. Still, I can't stop feeling absolutely sorry for her after this episode. No mother should ever be forced to lose her child like this. And I know that everyone was trying to help but I don't think I agree with their choice, especially considering they didn't reveal their plan to Adalind. It just seems cruel. I hope that she'll learn soon that her little daughter is safe (at least for now) with Nick's mom but it's still not gonna be enough. It was the most heartbreaking scene I've seen this week. Adalind slowly understanding what Kelly's trying to tell her and then desperately running to find her baby, realizing that Sean gave their daughter away and finally breaking down in the middle of the street. Knowing her baby girl is gone. I never expected to see Adalind like this or to feel bad for her, but I do. Claire Coffee gave such a powerful performance in this episode that her story stole the show for me. It's a strange change I have to say, an interesting move by the writers. I'm very excited to see where we'll go from here.

HANNIBAL, "Yakimono", April 11, 2014, Actors: Raúl Esparza, Hugh Dancy and more, The Scenes: Miriam Lass shoots Dr. Chilton & The last scene & Chilton wakes up and finds two dead FBI agents
Darth Locke:
Miriam Lass shoots Dr. Chilton, while being interrogated by Alana Bloom. This episode had such great artistry and dialogue again. The survival of Miriam has been such a delight since it shows us what Hannibal is really capable of! But on another note very sad that Chilton may have bitten the bullet, but I'm hopeful that Will lied to Hannibal and that Chilton also survived. He's a character in the films and books that should not have been this short-lived... Also picked by DarkUFO and Sharon Seymour
Diana mack: In the last scene, a calm and well-changed Will (look at his hair!) comes in Hannibal Lecter's studio saying he wants to resume his therapy. In his great design, Hannibal didn't expect his move... maybe he thought he had everything under control?
Macie Potts: Chilton wakes up bloody and finds two dead FBI agents in his kitchen. I loved everything about that scene, from Raul Esparza's acting to the creepy music.

LAW AND ORDER: SVU, "Beast's Obsession", April 9, 2014, Actors: Pablo Schreiber, Mariska Hargitay
The Scene: William Lewis kills himself
Daniel van der Veer:
SVU is known for its dark twists at the end of an episode and this week was no exception. In a quite shocking moment, William Lewis took his own life after a game of Russian roulette, leaving Benson's face covered in blood. I'm glad the saga is finally over, but I don't doubt that it will have far-reaching consequences for Olivia.
Shirleena Cunningham: William Lewis kills himself trying to frame Benson for his murder by putting the gun to his own head and shooting himself. In hoping that would be the last image she'll remember for the rest of her life.

MARVEL'S AGENTS OF SHIELD, "Turn, Turn, Turn", April 8, 2014, Actors: Brett Dalton and more
The Scenes: The Clairvoyant is revealed & The reveal that Ward is a traitor & Skye and Ward kiss
Justyna Kubica:
What a spectacular episode! Just proves why I have been enjoying the show so much. I had a bad feeling about both Ward and Garrett lately but I was still shocked to see how the things unraveled this week. Probably the most powerful "what is going on" moment is the reveal at the end of the episode but the best scene of the hour for me is the moment when we learn who's The Clairvoyant. I just love the way Coulson's facial expression changes the second he realizes the truth. And the way Garrett tries to "explain" his actions, trying to get everyone to join him in Hydra. Everyone's reactions speak volumes about characters. Coulson doesn't even consider it for a second, May follows him without hesitation and Fitz, despite being visibly afraid of this change and the possibility of an upcoming death, not only refuses but even tries to threaten the traitor. Such a good character moment for everyone and a powerful reveal. Even if I expected that Garrett may be Hydra/bad guy I don't think I even considered him also being The Clairvoyant. Truly clever twist. Also “No, John, this is you being a psychopath." just became of my favorite quotes this week. This show keeps getting better and the cast & crew are doing a wonderful job. Can't wait to see what's gonna happen next. I'm sure it's gonna be marvellous!
Virginia Fontana: The Skye/Ward kiss. While this seemed like a sweetly awkward, yet very romantic moment at first, it's one of those scenes that becomes much more complicated in light of what we learned about Ward at the end of the hour. I'm highly intrigued to see what will happen between these two as Ward begins to reveal more of his true agenda and situation, whatever they may be.
Klutzy girl: The reveal that Ward is a traitor. It was an amazing episode, but the twist was something I didn't see coming. The fallout is going to be bad and I'm really excited for what happens next. Also picked by Jamie Coudeville

NCIS, "Page Not Found", April 8, 2014, Actors: Margo Harshman, Sean Murray and more
The Scenes: McGee and Delilah talk about their relationship & Delilah calls Tony
Daniel van der Veer:
McGee and Delilah's relationship has been one of the few highlights of the season. So it was sad to see that while McGee wanted to move one way, Delilah had another move in mind. In the end, their relationship still stands and they sorta both get what they want. I just hope we will keep seeing Delilah every now and then.
Tonya Papanikolas: Delilah calls Tony to talk and he hides in a closet with a cardboard cutout of himself. This scene made me laugh out loud! (In fact, I watched it three times and laughed out loud every time!) Tony was hilarious as he pretended Delilah was a magazine subscriptions employee and then hid in the closet sort of by himself. When McGee and Gibbs opened the door, I was in stitches!

NCIS LOS ANGELES, "Windfall", April 8, 2014, Actors: Eric Christian Olsen, Daniela Ruah
The Scene: Deeks and Kensi finally chat at the end
Tonya Papanikolas:
Deeks and Kensi finally chat at the end of the episode. This scene was just what viewers had been waiting for. It took Kensi and Deeks back to how they acted with each other before her Afghanistan ordeal. It teased ahead to what is to come of their relationship as she gets back to the job and they will have to talk about where they stand with each other. (I'm so nervous for this!) And it showed that despite everything that happened to her, the true Kensi is not lost. Also picked by Sharon Seymour

ONCE UPON A TIME, "It's Not Easy Being Green", April 6, 2014, Actors: Lana Parrilla and more
The Scenes: The showdown between Regina and Zelena & Regina gives Robin her heart
Samy Bgs:
Regina slaps Zelena in front of everyone.
Jamie Coudeville: I love seeing badass Regina. My favorite part was her slapping Zelena.
Klutzy girl: Regina literally gives Robin her heart. They're so adorable. Hopefully this doesn't end badly. Also picked by Virginia Fontana

REIGN, "Liege Lord", April 10, 2014, Actors: Torrance Coombs, Caitlin Stasey, Adelaide Kane and more
The Scenes: Bash gets Henry to leave Kenna alone & Mary confronts Catherine
Virginia Fontana:
Bash gets Henry to leave Kenna alone at the end of the episode. It's been twisted and scary, as well as sometimes comical, to see Henry's sanity unravel, and Kenna's gotten the brunt of the King's crazy behavior a few times. It was nice to see Bash step in and redirect Henry from lying in Kenna's lap, and to have him reconfirm his commitment to her as a friend. The Bash/Kenna marriage, while I don't want them to suddenly fall in love, has been a bittersweet, complex plot twist that should continue to bring interesting results. Also picked by Sandi wich
Samy Bgs: Mary slaps Catherine because it's her fault Mary's men died. Also picked by Jamie Coudeville

SCANDAL, "Flesh and Blood", April 10, 2014, Actors: Jeff Perry, Bellamy Young and more
The Scene: The last scene & Olivia and Mellie talk about the paternity test
Jimmy Ryan:
This week's episode featured nothing but action. But the scene that did it for me was at the end of the episode, with the 'enemies' walking into the funeral, with the events of what's about to happen known only to Cyrus. The season finale next week will be nothing short of epic, and I cannot wait!
Diana mack: As always, Shonda gives us an amazing episode every week. I'll pick the scene between Olivia and Mellie in the White House. Olivia makes pressure on Mellie about the paternity test; the First Lady bursts in tears speaking about Big Jerry and (I think) Olivia puts the pieces together and understands Mellie didn't cheat on Fitz because she wanted it, but because she was forced by someone else. An intense moment between two women who seem to be strong, but they're just fragile inside.

THE 100, "Murphy's Law", April 9, 2014, Actors: Izabela Vidovic, Bobby Morley, Eliza Taylor and more
The Scene: Charlotte sacrifices herself
Daniel van der Veer:
After killing Wells last week, Charlotte paid the ultimate price for her actions. She took a life, and there is no excuse for that. However, Murphy went too far to get revenge. In the end, it was very brave from Charlotte to sacrifice herself in order to save Clarke. It was a sad scene though, but she did the right thing.

THE AMERICANS, "Arpanet", April 9, 2014, Actors: Matthew Rhys, Geoffrey Cantor
The Scene: The professor tries to explain to Philip what's the ARPANET (picked by DarkUFO)

  1. Oh, it was really hard to choose this week!

    Honorable mentions:

Scandal - Mellie and Liv talk about the paternity test - Bellamy is an amazing actress (she deserves an Emmy) and knocked that scene out of the park.

Parks and Rec - Leslie finds out she's pregnant; she tells Ben

Grimm: Adalind's reaction after she realizes she lost her baby. I'm not a fan of Nick and everyone kidnapping Diana, but I can't wait to see what happens next.

    SHIELD: Skye and Ward kiss

NCIS - Both scenes in the poll

    Very powerful and heartbreaking.

  8. Game of Thrones - Arya gets Needle back.

We finally see some revenge that Arya has been talking about and it was so badass! She also gets a pony she's been wanting!

Agents of SHIELD - The reveal that Garrett is HYDRA, the reveal that Ward is a traitor, and Fitz rebuking Garrett.

These two reveals had me screaming at the TV in shock and my jaw on the floor. Brilliant plot twist! Also Fitz where he tells Garrett that he is going to suffer was very emotional and powerful. Iain's acting was amazing.

  10. Thank you :)
I completely forgot about Believe! Definitely agree with these scenes. Bo stopping Joshua was probably my favorite.
Also yes to both scenes from GOT.

  11. SHIELD: the whole episode.

  12. The Agents of Shield (so fast paced & shocking!), Elementary, OUAT, Hannibal, and Grimm scenes mentioned.

Reign: The Scots bow to Mary.

    Believe: Bo sets Tate free

Being Human (series finale): So many scenes to choose from. I have so many favorite scenes:

    -Aidan becoming human/Sally's goodbye
-Aidan spilling the beans that he knows Nora's pregnant & Josh's reaction (so funny)
-Josh stopping Aidan from trying to get turned again (I love their friendship)
-Aidan facing Ramona on the stairs & dying (if he had to die, that was the way to do it)
-Aidan as a ghost scene, Josh & Nora saying goodbye to him, Aidan/Sally kiss (it was so great to see Aidan so happy and then sad to see him go but happy again when Sally is there waiting on the other side)
-Josh & Nora share a dream & their kids are shown. (I love their idea of Aidan&Sally dream weaving, ha)

It was a great finale, dark but with seeds of hope, light heartedness, and a bittersweet ending. Fitting for the show.

    AOS: The Clairvoyant is revealed.
Chicago Fire: Jones prepares to leave life, or the final talk she has with Herrman.

    ReplyDelete

  15. GOT- I know who my favorite chacrater is going to be this season!!

on a side note-i miss POI.

  16. That scene in Grimm was like the culmination of a Greek tragedy. All the things that happened to Adalind (yes, including her baby being taken away) were the result of her own actions and things she's done throughout the series, but you still feel awful about it. Just a terrible situation.

  17. Anna Paolinelli13 April 2014 at 23:05

I think that some of us were feeling so sorry for Cyrus that we forgot his true nature.

    ReplyDelete
  18. Upon Adalind realizing her baby was gone that cry/scream that came out of her made me feel for her.How sad and heartbreaking that scene was.

Arya finally has her Needle back, and what a way to get it and revenge for her friend being killed by him! Loved seeing her on her white horse with needle, she was satisfied and a little happy.Great scene!

Sherlock talking to Alistair at his grave. It doesn't matter what scene he is in, Johny Lee is just marvelous to watch!

    Honorable mention

Grey's: Loved the opening scene with Cristina and Meridith sleeping together, its been a long since they did that. I cracked up when the phone rang and there was Cristina putting on her lipstick FOR a phone call! I watched that scene twice,it was perfect!

Bates Motel- Norman saving Emma's life and sort of losing it after that.

  19. And here comes the day where Game of Thrones' scene is only my fourth choice, Aria's consumation in the dark side was amazing and I can't wait to see more of that, the rest of the episode was amazing, as GOT always is but no particular scene stood out so much to pick it in here.
I always have to chose a scene from Hannibal but I have to pick only one just to leave a little room to the others, the whole episode was stunning and brilliant as alwys, but that little teaser of what it'll be to see Will and Hannibal in that room but with everything tghey've been through on their backs is just the most thrilling thing this week.
I loved so many scenes from Reign, I'm loving the bond being created by Kenna and Bash and that scene was pretty significative of it, but it was such a great episode that Mary's storyline stole it all. So I had to go with the scene where Mary confronts Catherine, not only because they are both amazing but because Catherine put in consolidated words the weight Mary had beeing feeling in her chest, that particular subject to me was very intense, very well written and confronted. Mary's subect's loyalty to her was as heartwarming as it was heartbreaking and just overall brilliant.
Scandal was pretty great as well, Mellie was brilliant as always but this time and drunk particularly so, I can't wait to see her fall apart if that bomb goes off, though it'll be heartbreking I'm guessing it'll be stunning as well.
But for my third scene I had to go with The 100, that scene was so intense and this show is proving to be amazing and so much more that a buch of teenagers playing a remake of lost. Charlotte killing Wells was amazing in showing how much living in the Arch with all it's rues and limitations can do to a person and to discover what those traumas can do once they get to a place where those bounderies no longer stand is amazing. Hope they keep the show on that dark side because it has huge potentia.
As always choosing only three is very difficult but there it is.

  20. Anything with Daenerys Is awesome, she's beautiful and amazing with the dragons, also Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Was excellent overall last week and lastly in Reign, Mary's speech to her fellow Scott's was brilliant!

    ReplyDelete
  21. The reason that Cristina was putting on her lipstick was because Meredith was going to take a picture of the moment when Harper Avery people called. Why do you think that Derek had a picture of it on his phone?

  22. Chandler Marlowe14 April 2014 at 02:20

That Elementary scene was very well acted.

    ReplyDelete
  23. I know why,but its not like its the first time people will have seen her w/o lipstick on,especially at 5 in the morning!

I didn't see the part where Derek had it on his phone..

.I still think it was funny!

  24. Ok, mypicks:
    - Ward being a traitor. I did not expect that.
    - Mellie "reveals" the paternity issue to Olivia. Brilliantly acted.
    - Adalind realizes she lost her baby. it was brutal to watch it and made me feel for the oh soh awful Adalind. Gut wrenching.
    - Sherlock at his friend's grave. Touching.

  25. Both scenes showing Mary confronting Catherine on Reign, first the one with the slap heard around the world and the second with Mary blackmailing Catherine about releasing the "mad King" rumors around France.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Mary and Catherine on Reign and watching Francis reaction to his wife and her power. She is a queen for sure now.
Also, Danny and Mindy on TMP. Great acting for such a heavy part of a comedy.
