First of all, I am very glad that Jesse survived being shot; it definitely seemed a bit touch and go halfway through the episode. Although I now don’t really know what to think of him as a person.
This was such a great episode for developing the characters outside of just developing Anna, but we also got a bit of development for her too, which is nice. I really liked that we got to see a lot more of Molly than we have done in previous episodes; she’s more been a phone call for Anna to make rather than a properly developed character, and this episode gave us some much-needed context to their relationship.
I like that even though it isn’t a love triangle as such anymore, we are still getting to see both Jesse and Stanton be in Anna’s life, even if neither of them are in the romantic role with her at the moment.
I could not have loved Stanton’s storyline more this episode, especially when he is actually being called out for his feelings about Anna. I also really liked that Detective Fontaine was proven wrong about Anna wanting to push Stanton away when she said that she trusted him. It wasn’t even like she had to think about it to know that she was okay with him looking into it for her. I’m interested to see if Stanton is going to be the one to truly uncover what happened to Zach, given the fact we know Jeremiah Paulson has some information about Zach’s murder; I wonder if we actually already know the person that killed Zach.
I don’t think there could have been a more perfect episode for Molly to come to the park, and I’m glad that we finally got the conversation about the fact that Anna has been keeping all the trauma she’s been through to herself and not telling Molly. I have wondered all season if Molly was ever going to find out how close to death Anna has come on multiple occasions.
I really did feel for Anna during the argument between her and Molly, so much of what Molly was saying clearly cut so deep for Anna. And also, on top of that, 90% of what Molly was saying wasn’t even Anna’s fault or wasn’t in her control, apart from her drinking habit, which she obviously could do something about. If I’m honest, I was kind of hoping after her confession to Stanton about drinking that she would eventually dial down the drinking; the first step to recovery is acknowledgement and all that.
The fact that Anna’s secrecy landed both her and Molly in some hot water was perfect. Had Anna actually been honest about everything that had happened to her, then there is no way that Molly would have spilled all her secrets to Jeremiah Paulson.
Although again, it made me not like Molly very much because there is no way that she should ever have been splurging all of that information about herself and Anna to a complete stranger. I need to vent, but maybe sitting in a bar telling a stranger all your gripes about your sister and getting drunk doesn’t make you much better than you are saying she is.
Jessie not being who he said he is also kind of made me not like him that much either. I kind of understand why he did what he did, but by the same token, it was so wrong to do. Anna doesn’t seem to have too much of a problem with it at the end of the episode, but I think she should not just because he isn’t who he said he is but because even after admitting that he loved her and wanted her to move in with him, he still wasn’t willing to tell her who he really is. It would not shock me if we find out more about Jessie’s past that isn’t all good.
With only one episode left of the season, I can’t wait to see what happens to Anna and the rest of the crew.
