May 2023 Sees Surge in Streaming TV Consumption - Nielsen's The Gauge Expands with Addition of New FAST Service

In May, streaming usage rebounded to 36.4% of total TV, driven by a methodology change and viewing behavior. The Roku Channel captured 1.1% of total TV usage, and Netflix and Amazon Prime Video posted gains of 9.2% and 5.1%, respectively. Total TV usage fell 4.4% due to reduced broadcast and cable viewing, with broadcast down 5.5% and cable down 5.4%. Sports viewing dropped 25%, but the NBA Finals on ESPN and TNT drove a 12% increase in cable sports viewership.
