The Politician - January Jones Joins Ryan Murphy's Netflix Series

January Jones (The Last Man on Earth, Mad Men) has joined the cast of Ryan Murphy's The Politician on Netflix. The series has a 2-season order at Netflix. Ryan Murphy will serve as writer, showrunner and executive producer.

The Politician is described as a one-hour comedy with social commentary. It will revolve around Payton (Ben Platt), a wealthy Santa Barbarian with political aspirations. Each season will revolve around a different political race Payton is involved in per Deadline. Platt is expected to have musical numbers throughout the show.

During an interview with Sirius XM, Dylan McDermott confirmed his casting on The Politician as well as Jessica Lange and Gwyneth Paltrow. McDermott mentions the series will be a political satire that will release on Netflix sometime next spring or summer (filming has wrapped). It's noted that The Politician mirrors what is happening in the White House right now but will be about a high school that is just as vicious and cutthroat.

McDermott mentions his character is a con-man, he's maxed out all his credit cards and is living a life that is just a lie and in that he reveals that January Jones will be playing his character's wife. He also reveals that Jones character is somewhat of a "Pretty Woman" (a reference to Julia Roberts' iconic film), an escort that he marries.

Listen to the full but short interview below to get the interesting details on the upcoming show that really hasn't revealed much.

Zoey Deutch, Lucy Boynton, Laura Dreyfuss and Rahne Jones are also apart of the Netflix series.

In other Ryan Murphy news, Sarah Paulson revealed to Flaunt Magazine that her upcoming Netflix series, Ratched, based on Nurse Ratched from One Flew Over The Cuckoo’s Nest hasn't started filming yet (it's still a little too early notes Paulson) but she does say she has seen two scripts. I know some are interested in this series so I thought I'd share this info here.

I can say that it takes place during a particular time in our country's history, and you can't deny that part in telling the story.
