The Wrong Mans - Jillian Bell to Star in Showtime Comedy Pilot

The 22 Jump Street and Rough Night actress has been tapped to star opposite Ben Schwartz in the premium cable network's The Wrong Mans comedy pilot.

From exec producers J.J. Abrams and James Corden, The Wrong Mans is an action-comedy about two ordinary office workers who have their menial existence turned upside-down by a chance phone call and a case of mistaken identity: "If you are not here by 5 o’clock, we will kill your wife." As the only people who can help, these two unlikely characters must find their inner hero in their quest to save not just themselves, but their loved ones and ultimately their whole town.

The potential series is based on the BBC comedy created by and starring Corden and Matthew Baynton. Bell will play Anne, based on Cordon's role of Phil in the original. Anne works alongside Sam (Schwartz) and is a somewhat deluded fantasist who lives with her mother and has such an empty life that she leaps at the opportunity to join Sam in saving a woman who is kidnapped. Sam, meanwhile, just wants to get on with his ordinary life while Anna is desperate for excitement and extremely unrealistic about her capacity as an action hero.

MOVIES: Dune - Timothée Chalamet in Talks to Star in Legendary Adaptation from Denis Villeneuve

EXCLUSIVE: Timothée Chalamet is in final talks to star in the Denis Villeneuve-directed Dune, the cinematic relaunch of one of the most celebrated science fiction properties of all time for Legendary.

Legendary acquired film and TV rights to the Frank Herbert novels Dune in 2016, with the intention of making multiple films. Villenueve chose that film over numerous offers as his followup to Blade Runner 2049. That included James Bond, this well before Danny Boyle came in with his own take for that movie that was drafted by John Hodge.

Chalamet will play the lead, which in the David Lynch-directed original was Kyle MacLachlan. The young nobleman Paul Atreides is the central figure in the series of sprawling epic novels first published in 1965. It is set in the far future involving worlds beyond Earth, ruled over by competing feudal families who control access to a drug called Melange. Known popularly as “spice,” the drug gives its users heightened consciousness and an extended lifespan at the cost of crippling addiction and fatal withdrawal. Spice, use of which makes interstellar travel possible, is found only on the desert planet of Arrakis — aka “Dune” — and as such is the most valuable commodity in the galaxy. The original was a contentious shoot, with Lynch battling his producers and financiers, but Dune has been tapped successfully for the small screen and the version by Villenueve, after films from Incendies to Sicario, Arrival to Blade Runner 2049, makes for about as anticipated an iconic scifi novel series adaptation as you’ll find in Hollywood, Game of Thrones meets Star Wars.

MOVIES: Zombieland 2 - Emma Stone, Woody Harrelson, Jesse Eisenberg & Abigail Breslin Returning for Sequel

After fits and starts, Sony Pictures has reunited the cast of its 2009 surprise hit — including Emma Stone, Woody Harrelson, Jesse Eisenberg and Abigail Breslin — for Zombieland 2.

Ruben Fleischer, who directed the original and who is behind the studio’s Spider-Man-centric fall tentpole, Venom, is returning to the helmer’s chair.

While rumors of the sequel have risen from the dead several times over the years, this time Sony really means it: The film is set to begin production in January 2019 and will be released in October 2019, in time for the 10th anniversary of the original movie.

The new movie will once again put the focus on comic mayhem, taking the quartet from the White House to the American heartland as they face off against new kinds of zombies that have evolved since the first movie, as well as some new human survivors. But, most of all, according to the studio, they have to face the growing pains of their own snarky, makeshift family.

MOVIES: Togo - Willem Dafoe to Star in Disney Streaming Adaptation

Willem Dafoe, who was nominated for an Oscar for his work in last year’s The Florida Project, has signed on to star in Togo, a Disney movie about a famous and dangerous sled dog relay.

Ericson Core, who directed the Mark Wahlberg drama Invincible as well as the recent remake of Point Break, is helming the movie, which is being developed for the Disney streaming service.

Togo will be a live-action feature centering on two key figures in the 1925 serum run to Nome, also known as the Great Race of Mercy, in which dog sled teams relayed to transport diphtheria antitoxin serum through harsh conditions over nearly 700 miles to save the Alaskan town of Nome from an epidemic.

Balto was the dog who received acclaim from the life-saving run and whose heroism was popularized at the time; he even received the movie treatment via an animated feature in 1995 from Steven Spielberg’s Amblin.

But, in effect, it was Togo and his owner, Gunnar Kaasen, that traversed the most dangerous part of the journey, facing temperatures that were 30 degrees below zero in gale force winds.

Dafoe will play Kaasen in this tale of an unlikely friendship between man and dog
