A post shared by Virginia Williams (@virginiawms) on

Now Apocalypse - Kevin Daniels & Avra Friedman to Recur in Starz Comedy

Sirens alum Kevin Daniels and Avra Friedman (Stop the Bleeding) are set for recurring roles opposite Avan Jogia, Kelli Bergland, Beau Mirchoff and Roxane Mesquida on Now Apocalypse, Starz’s upcoming original half-hour comedy series from creator/executive producer Gregg Araki and Steven Soderbergh.

Co-written by Araki, who also directs, and sex columnist Karley Sciortino, Now Apocalypse is a 10-episode surreal, coming-of-age comedy that follows Ulysses (Jogia) and his friends Carly (Berglund), Ford (Mirchoff) and Severine (Mesquida), who are on various quests pursing love, sex and fame while navigating the strange and oftentimes bewildering city of Los Angeles.

Daniels will play Barnabas. He approaches Ford (Mirchoff), who’s diligently working on his screenplay in a coffee shop, and introduces himself as a producer who’d be interested in reading Ford’s script. Friedman will portray Magenta, a very committed but meek and untalented actress in Carly’s (Berglund) acting class.

The Righteous Gemstones - Edi Patterson to Co-Star in HBO’s Televangelist Comedy

Edi Patterson is joining Danny McBride in his latest HBO comedy endeavor, TVLine has learned exclusively.

In Righteous Gemstones, McBride stars as Jesse Gemstone, the eldest son and “heir to the throne” of a world-famous televangelist family “with a long tradition of deviance, greed, and charitable work, all in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ.” Patterson will play McBride’s onscreen sister Judy Gemstone, who resents her family for not giving her the same opportunities within the church as her siblings. Judy only wants an opportunity to stand on the stage with the rest of them on Sunday mornings.

Last Man Standing - Season 7 - Molly Ephraim and Flynn Morrison Not Returning; Roles Being Recast

Two series regulars are departing “Last Man Standing” before the launch of its seventh season on Fox, Variety has confirmed.

Molly Ephraim and Flynn Morrison will not return for the show’s inaugural season on Fox. Ephraim played Mandy, one of Tim Allen’s character’s daughters, while Morrison played Boyd, his grandson. Both roles will be recast before the show returns in September.

Star - Season 3 - Brandy Norwood Promoted to Series Regular

Carlotta will be seeing more of her sister Cassie in the upcoming season of Star. Brandy Norwood, who recurred on Season 2, has been promoted to series regular for Season 3 of the Fox music drama series.

Norwood plays Carlotta’s (Queen Latifah) sister Cassie Brown. Season three, will be a “War of the Brown Sisters” as they vie for control of the Atlanta music scene.

The New Pope - John Malkovich to Star; Jude Law Returning in The Young Pope Spinoff

John Malkovich is set to star in The New Pope, Paolo Sorrentino’s follow-up to the critically praised The Young Pope limited series, with Jude Law returning following his star turn as tormented American pontiff Lenny Belardo in the first series. Production on The New Pope, from FremantleMedia-owned Wildside (The Young Pope) and Spain’s Mediapro, is set to begin in Italy in November.

Written by Sorrentino with his frequent Italian co-writer Umberto Contarello, who also served as co-writer on Young Pope, and Stefano Bises, The New Pope limited series also is set in the world of modern papacy. The New Pope, an original production of HBO-Sky, is produced by Lorenzo Mieli and Mario Gianani for Wildside and co-produced by Mediapro. The series has been in the works since last year.

Producers are keeping mum on Law & Malkovich’s roles in The New Pope. There were questions at the conclusion of The Young Pope as to whether Law’s Lenny Belardo was alive or dead. In the final moments, when Lenny was delivering his sermon in Venice, he doubled-over in pain and a vision of the Virgin Mary appeared in the clouds. While The New Pope is a new series, it is expected to retain some elements of Young Pope.

American Princess - Mimi Gianopulos, Helen Madelyn Kim, Tommy Dorfman & Erin Pineda to Recur in Lifetime Dramedy

Mimi Gianopulos (Baby Daddy), Helen Madelyn Kim (GLOW), Tommy Dorfman (13 Reasons Why) and Erin Pineda (Major Crimes) are set for recurring roles opposite Georgia Flood in American Princess, Lifetime’s straight-to-series drama from Jenji Kohan, Jamie Denbo and Tara Herrmann.

Created, written and executive produced by Denbo (Ronna & Beverly), American Princess follows Amanda (Flood), an Upper East Side socialite who runs away from her own dream wedding when she realizes that the life she thought she wanted, wasn’t actually right after all. When she stumbles upon a Renaissance Faire, she experiences an unexpected awakening, leading her to leave everything she thought she cared about behind. While at the Faire, Amanda quickly develops new friendships, rivalries and romance that opens her eyes to new beginnings.

Gianopulos will play Morgan, Amanda’s dry and judgmental high school BFF. She is single and successful in her career as a branding consultant. Kim is Lexi, Korean-born, raised Jewish by her adoptive gay Jewish parents and one of Amanda’s besties. She is sweet, shallow and not the sharpest tool in the shed. Dorfman portrays Nick, Amanda’s gay bestie. Nick’s exquisite taste and sharp wit have solidified him as an influencer in the social media world. Pineda will play Helen, a Rennie with a crazy streak. She’s a hedonist and a wild woman who lives life to the fullest while traveling the Ren Faire circuit all year round.

You & Good Girls - Lifetime Thriller & NBC Dramedy Moving Production to California

Just days after Gov. Jerry Brown inked an extension of California’s $330 million film and television tax incentive initiative to 2025, the program is welcoming Good Girls and You to the Golden State.

Pegging its progress in no small part to the rich pickings of plucking series from other jurisdiction to the home of Hollywood, the California Film Commission announced today that the Christian Hendricks’ co-starring NBC show and the yet to debut Greg Berlanti produced Lifetime show are coming to the state for their second seasons.

In fact, the proclamation from the CFC of the latest allocation awards is the first indication that the September 9 premiering You has been renewed for a Season 2. Interestingly, like Good Girls, which had its second season renewal made public back in early May, psychological thriller You has an international distribution deal with Netflix, which may have sweetened the pot for the state.

Moving from the lucrative tax credits of Georgia, Good Girls will receive $9.3 million under the incentive program. Shifting over from the very very lucrative Empire State, You is set to get $6.06 million from the Golden State.

MOVIES: Sonic The Hedgehog - Jim Carrey in Negotiations to Star in Live-Action Film as Villain

L.A. Confidential - Passed by CBS All Access

Efforts to find a new home for L.A. Confidential, originally developed for but passed over by CBS, have failed. The drama, based on the James Ellroy novel and subsequent feature film, had been eyed to land at CBS All Access, the subscription service from co-producers CBS Television Studios. However, following extended talks, a deal ultimately could not be reached.

Sources say Lionsgate TV, who produced the pilot alongside New Regency and CBS Television Studios, may have asked for a higher licensing fee than the SVOD home had expected. Others maintain that finances had little to do with it — given CBS All Access' financial commitment to Star Trek: Discovery and the franchise's other forthcoming series. What's more, CBS All Access already has period drama Strange Angel, which is set in the 1930s.
