Fear The Walking Dead - Laura - Review: "A Walking Rom-Com"

As predicted in my previous review, FTWD sadly did a John-Laura/Naomi centric episode. And while I do love the occasional flashback episode this one wasn`t really doing a good job for the show. We didn`t care enough about John and his handsome visitor to get thrown back and get invested in this episode.

Generally, this wasn`t a bad or poor episode this misplaced. I think it would`ve been much more impressive and memorable to see this story unfold when John and Laura reunite in present time. Nevertheless, it is how it is and the episode behind us featured a really strong story about John and created great space and let Garret and Jenna show their dramatic acting skills, I know both from comedic roles and this was indeed a nice change of pace.

John`s story was a bit different I enjoyed the built up and reveal at the end. It was different but simple it created an edgier character with different traits and a lot of heart. Having a conscious and living purely in a world ruled by Zombies isn`t the smart choice but a different one. It is also a nice parallel between his road and the way Clarke family`s story turned around. As they also were all about self-defense but their story took a wrong turn when the fight for survival takes over.

Laura entering John`s life was executed well. His big heart embraced her damaged soul and body in a way that didn`t threaten her existence and created a safe haven for the two of them. As mentioned in the review title their story had major Rom-com feelings but the chemistry between them was spot on and the really lived those words. The big scene which resulted in their hook up was perfectly executed with all the right feels taking over and creating something full of light in a world so dark.

The episode missed Laura`s angle and that would add the episode more edge and probably improve the pace that was quite lacking this week.
