16:05 - Sea Oak, Love You More & The Climb - Comedy Pilots Passed on by Amazon

EXCLUSIVE: have learned that Amazon Studios has opted not to pick up any of the three comedy pilots that were part of the current fall 2017 pilot season. That includes Sea Oak, starring Glenn Close; Love You More, from Patti Cake$’ Bridget Everett and Sex and the City‘s Michael Patrick King; and Diarra Kilpatrick’s The Climb. There is no renewal decision yet on comedy series One Mississippi, and Amazon has yet to weigh in on the future of I Love Dick.

The decision to pass on the three comedy pilots comes as Amazon Studios is in the midst of a major executive overhaul. The pilots premiered on Amazon Prime Video on November 10, just a couple of weeks after the men who had greenlighted them, Amazon Studios head Roy Price and his top lieutenant, head of comedy and drama development Joe Lewis, exited in short succession in the wake of the Harvey Weinstein scandal. Search is now underway for a new Amazon Studios head.

14:22 - Legends of Tomorrow - Season 3 - Jonathon Schaech Returning

Thanks to Jaz for the heads up.

Jonah Hex is about to return to the Waverider. In an interview with Inverse for his new movie Day of the Dead: Bloodline, actor Jonathon Schaech confirms that his Confederate soldier turned expert bounty hunter will come back for an appearance on DC’s Legends of Tomorrow when the show resumes in early 2018.

“They pinned me for the beginning of the year,” Schaech says in a phone interview with Inverse. “I don’t know what we’re gonna do or how many episodes, but definitely he’s [Jonah Hex] going to be a part of Season 3.”

Schaech adds that he “hasn’t read anything” and that he doesn’t know how many episodes he will be in Legends of Tomorrow Season 3, currently on winter hiatus. Historically, Schaech has played his fan-favorite anti-hero for just one episode each season. Thanks to the show’s time travel concept, it’s possible for the lead characters to pay a visit Jonah Hex in the Old West any time.

“They pin the actors to see if they’re available for certain dates.” Schaech says he’s filming his episodes in January. “That’s all I know right now,” he says.

16:00 - The Frankenstein Chronicles - Netflix Acquires Streaming Rights for The U.S

Thanks to johnhelvete for the heads up.

Netflix will take Sean Bean’s cult hit “The Frankenstein Chronicles” to the U.S. and further afield after striking a deal for the U.K.-produced drama series, Variety has learned. The streaming service has taken both six-episode seasons and is expected to run the series as a Netflix Original in the U.S.

“The Frankenstein Chronicles” is a re-imagining of Mary Shelley’s classic novel. Set in 1830s London, Bean (“Game of Thrones”) plays John Marlott, a war veteran and river policeman. Season 1 of the serialized show sees him investigating the case of a corpse made up of body parts from different children, and finding the matter involves senior establishment figures and demonic forces.

The show has been on ITV’s Encore channel in the U.K. but the British broadcaster is closing the linear service and “The Frankenstein Chronicles” will then be one of several series available as a box-set on its catchup service. The show has been well-reviewed, but the ITV Encore pay-TV channel only attracts a modest audience in the U.K. The series is produced by U.K.-based Rainmark Films, and Frank Doelger (“Game of Thrones”) is an executive producer.

His Robin, 28-year-old Taron Egerton, agrees: “I was approached not long after the first Kingsman movie had come out, and my initial response, to be totally honest, was ‘Why?’ [But] Otto told me he wanted to do something entirely revisionist, something that can’t be tied down to a medieval universe. The first act of the movie, these scenes crusading in Syria, were written like something from The Hurt Locker. It was fantastic, and that was enough to convince me.” Also on board: Merry Men Jamie Foxx (Little John) and Jamie Dornan (Will Scarlett), and The Knick‘s Eve Hewson as Maid Marian. And Ben Mendelsohn steps into the Sheriff of Nottingham’s boots — a role that for many is still defined by the late Alan Rickman in 1991’s Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves. “I ain’t gonna be outdoing him,” he admits. “That performance is a delightful tour de force, and I knew and loved the man. But I get a kick out of [sharing it], and I think he would have too.”

20:15 - MOVIES: Disney's The Nutcracker and the Four Realms - First Look Photos

Clara, in this vibrant adaptation helmed by Lasse Hallström (Chocolat), is brainy and bold. “She’s very smart and independent,” says 17-year-old Mackenzie Foy (Interstellar), who plays her. “She loves to think and find the fastest way to solve a problem.” Clara has lost the magical key that will unlock a priceless gift from her mother. To get it back, she must travel across the Land of Snowflakes, Land of Flowers, and Land of Sweets, where she meets Keira Knightley’s Sugar Plum Fairy. “Clara is just fascinated with her,” Foy says.

But not everything is candy-coated fantasy: There’s also the foreboding Fourth Realm, ruled by Mother Ginger (Helen Mirren). “She’s a fierce character,” Mirren says, “with a modern edge.” But fans craving the classic need not fear. The film nods to Tchaikovsky’s score and has a ballet sequence featuring Misty Copeland. “Pretending to be in these imaginative worlds, it’s why I wanted to become an actress,” Mirren says. “It’s my dream come true, really.”

The Nutcracker and the Four Realms arrives Nov. 2, 2018.
