The SpoilerTV Favourite TV Series Competition 2017 - Day 29 - Quarter-Finals

Hey all,

It's quarter-final day! How lovely. Just eight shows remain in the competition and, although it might be an obvious thing to say, I reckon all of them have a chance of winning this thing. Two previous winners remain; could we see a new champion?

Major Crimes is thus far looking good for its third straight semi-final appearance. Victories over Arrow and Timeless in the second and third rounds, respectively, were both impressive and stands it in good stead coming into today's tie. This will be an even tougher test, though, because Psych looks really good to go all the way. The most nominated in our finished shows, Game of Thrones felt its power in the third round, getting utterly annihilated. I did wonder just how well the show would do in head-to-head battles as opposed to the nomination stage. I am wondering no longer.

For the strength of Outlander, only the second round battle against Supergirl felt like it could be a test, but the CW series was brushed aside with relative ease. Our 2014 winner is pretty much always going to be a safe bet to get to these closing stages; the question is over whether it can reclaim that past glory. On paper, you'd think that Brooklyn Nine-Nine wouldn't pose too much of a challenge. And yet thanks to FOX's cop comedy, three-time champion Supernatural has its lowest ever finish in this competition - and the first time that it has ever failed to reach this stage. Brooklyn has already taken down one of the competition's former winners. What a remarkable achievement if it beats another.

A win today for Person of Interest would see it take Supernatural's record of the longest run of consecutive poll wins. That record, set from 2010-2012, stands at 15 and, should it reach Monday's semi-finals, Person of Interest will move to 16. Buffy has the chance to stop that happening today, after getting past its own spinoff, Angel, in pretty comprehensive fashion. Doing so would see it reach the semi-finals for the first time since 2013.

Rounding out the day is our only all-seeded affair as Agents of SHIELD takes on Shadowhunters. This from SHIELD, already its best performance since its 2014 debut, hasn't been an easy run with all three opponents - Firefly, The X-Files, Fringe - all very capable contenders. Perhaps that bodes well today, then, because Shadowhunters poses an even tougher threat. This may be its debut but that is doing little to hold the Freeform series back, defeating LOST in round three. A fascinating tie is in prospect.

A reminder of the rules:

1) Two shows will go into battle in a poll, where after exactly 24 hours, the leading show will win the battle and will progress into the next round. Each poll will open at 12pm ET on a given day.
2) Vote for your favourite and spread the word with your friends & fans.
3) One vote per person per poll.
4) Comment on what you voted for on in the comments below.
5) Have fun. This is a friendly & competitive competition. Please do not start attacking other fans or fangroups in the comments, because this really isn't what this competition is about.
