Dark Matter - Give It Up, Princess - Advance Preview: “Seriously Fun”

This is a seriously fun episode. No, seriously, it seriously is. Also, it’s fun to try and count all the times they say seriously. That word has apparently become the crew’s new favorite word. Now, to be fair, every time it is said it is very appropriately used, but it is still kind of fun to listen out for. This is a really cool space adventure episode which has the crew running around the galaxy on a mission. There are some tense moments, but at its core, it’s all about the adventure. Adrian is the driving force so you can expect the sort of antics you’d imagine from him. The Android even gets to get in on the fun and Zoie Palmer delivers some truly impressive performances.

Throughout the hour there are some things revealed about Adrian that one wouldn’t necessarily expect from him. He is a bit of a goofball, but there is a much deeper side to him. This episode gives Mishka Thébaud a chance to really show off what he can do and what he does is quite impressive. He might be portraying a new character, but his energy fits so perfectly with the tone of the show and his fellow performers that it feels like he’s always been around. Thébaud is a force to be reckoned with thanks to his impeccable comedic timing mixed with an innate ability to transition into the more serious moments. He is an absolute joy to watch perform.

Thanks to Adrian the crew finds themselves embroiled in a high-stakes treasure hunt across the galaxy. As with any Raza adventure, the crew finds themselves in one precarious situation after another. And as is often the case in these moments, they have to get creative to deal with what is being thrown at them. This time that honor falls to the Android to some very fun results. Even though this is a fun adventure episode it has a big part in the overall theme of the season. What happens will certainly have larger implications in the long term. A lot goes down on Zairon as well that challenges Ryo in unexpected ways. There are a lot of challenges that keep everyone on their toes no matter where they are. Nothing comes easy as hijinks ensue and missions go awry. This is probably the most fun that has happened in any episode yet this season. The episode ends on a very surprising note that leaves hanging a plot point that could have massive consequences at some point.

Don’t miss out on this seriously fun adventure when the episode airs this Friday, June 30th at 9/8c on SyFy in the US and Space in Canada.

Here are some quotes to tide you over:

“You should try smiling more.”
“Well, aren’t you just the sweetest thing I ever did see.”
“I don’t date guys whose asses I’ve kicked.”
“It’s not our job to run around the galaxy risking our asses to rescue people.”
“I don’t regret what I did.”

Hit the comments with your hopes for this episode. What do you think will happen? Are you excited to see a fun episode versus a serious one?
