Sneak Peek

New Interview
Thanks to I'loveRUMPLEforever for the heads up.

What can you say about Belle’s fate in the season finale?

Probably my second or equal to the moments in the first episode is a moment that Belle and Mr. Gold have in the finale. It’s just kind of perfect. It’s very special. We’re still with teary eyes afterward and don’t want to say anything else.

Do you know what your next acting gig is?

No. I’m taking a moment just to be a mom (to 14-month-old Vera with fiancĂ©-director Eric Bilitch) at home right now. And I’m loving that full time, but I’m going to work on something else soon ... I’m just trying to figure out what the right thing is. There’s so much wonderful stuff out there now, kind of more than ever, there’s a lot of cable content popping up more than there ever has been. Some really great quality pieces.

TVGuide Interview

What can you say about Rumple's part in the finale?

Kitsis: I will say the final battle will be thematic for everybody and that Rumple, as a man who is a difficult man to love, I think he will have a very difficult choice to make again.

Will everyone make it out alive?

Kitsis: Can't promise you that.

But [we were] thinking, would it be like Cinderella or Ruby, people we haven't seen in a while?

Horowitz: I would say this, in all seriousness. It's a combination of things that we're planning to do. So it's like, while we don't want to say literally what we're hoping to do, but it's not -- it would involve our characters, some of our characters, and it would involve some new people as well. It's a mixture of things.

Interview on Jennifer Morrison's Departure from Once
Thanks to Iwaszkow for the heads up.

What does your exit mean for Emma’s happy ending? How do you feel about how Emma’s story ends?

I feel great. Listen, from Day 1 I’ve always said I love Eddy and Adam’s writing and I love the stories they come up with, and I feel like they do such a wonderful job of taking these characters on really rich journeys. So I’m very pleased with the journey that they had taken Emma on through the whole six years, and I’m pleased with where they’ve taken her to at the end of the six years.

You’ve said you’d come back for one episode next season. Is there a chance for more or even a return for whatever ends up being the series finale?

I don’t know. I can’t really speak to that. All I can say is that I’ve negotiated for one episode, and that episode is the only thing I can promise.

Interviews

Because the show hasn’t gotten a pick-up yet, if this is the series finale instead of the season finale, will fans be happy with how it ends?

GOODWIN: I think so.
DALLAS: I think most people will be. You can’t please everybody. I think that some people will be happy, and some people will be angry and upset.
GOODWIN: I think they found a magical way to make it go either way.
DALLAS: Yeah, they’ve honored these characters and this part of the story, this part of their journeys. I think each character gets something that the fans should be happy with, that each character deserves.

This finale will undoubtedly be different from any others because for the first time, Once Upon a Time is heading into its final episode on the bubble as the drama awaits word on its future. That fact played heavily on the decision making process for this episode, and Kitsis and Horowitz were aware that they needed to write a season finale that could also function as a series finale if need be.

If the show does return for another year, it’s growing increasingly clear that a few characters may not be coming along for the ride. Kitsis confirmed as much, saying “Creatively it’s time to end a few stories. ... We feel like this is the kind of show that regenerates, and I think when you see the ending you’ll go, ‘Oh, yeah.’”

If it is the end for them, Goodwin and Dallas have both said that they’re satisfied with the way the finale shakes out for their characters — and the show as a whole.

“I think they’ve honored these characters and this part of the story, part of their journey, and I think each character gets something that the fans should be happy with that each character deserves,” Dallas says. “If it’s the last episode, I would be satisfied.”
