American Housewife - Man Date - Review:"Addie Rondack"

In this all new episode of American Housewife, Katie once again does battle with her nemesis. Not Viv, or the crazy vegan lady, her other other nemesis.

Chloe Brown Mueller is the Lex Luthor to Katie’s Superman, to use an analogy of one of Katie’s favorite movies, Batman v. Superman. She doesn’t care if it has five dream sequences. She just likes to see things blowing up.

This might provide insight into Katie’s way of dealing with the wackiness of Westport. She’s honest, even when it is destructive to her family relationships. That’s why it’s so difficult to deal with chair-thief Chloe.

The Ottos once again encounter stupid Chloe Brown Mueller and her husband, stupid Stan Lawton, at an estate sale. Katie doesn’t understand why Westport can’t just call it a yard sale like everyone else, but quickly gets schooled by Chloe on the difference between a tag sale and a garage sale. A tag sale means that Chloe can literally steal three beautiful Adirondack chairs from under her. Katie is livid. The chairs might have belonged to Paul Newman and now they belong to one of the most annoying women in Westport.

There’s more to the problem than the chairs. While Katie and Chloe can’t stand each other, their husbands have become best friends. They’ve bonded over their love of Westport history and suddenly Katie and Chloe have to attend colonial fairs together.

Katie quite loudly voices her dislike of Chloe, but Greg cashes in his marriage chips to get her to double-date with the Mueller-Lawtons. She hates it, and she hates Chloe. Chloe feels similar and comments on how refreshing it is to be able to openly hate someone instead of hiding behind fake smiles like all the other Westport wives. The two decide that they can’t take another historical reenactment. They have to show their husbands how unpleasant they are to be around.

As one might expect, this quickly spirals out of control. Katie and Chloe stage a fake fight at dinner and Katie accidentally spills a priceless bottle of wine from the Mayflower. Stan is aghast, but Greg kind of thinks it’s funny. He also points out that the Mayflower wasn’t the big deal Stan makes it out to be. For Stan, who is proud of the fact that he’s a descendent of the Mayflower passengers, this is a bridge too far. The two history buffs get into a fight which, given their academic interests, involves a lot of calling each other “sir.”

Katie feels bad. Doris and Angela feel bad. They urge their friend to make up with Chloe for Greg’s sake. Katie tries to earn a lot of marital chips by appearing in Chloe’s video admitting that Chloe didn’t steal the chairs, despite what Katie posts on social media as her alter-ego, Addie Rondack. Greg gets his friend back just in time for the reenactment of the Battle of Ridgefield and excitedly changes into his minuteman costume with alarming alacrity. As Katie watches her husband go off to war, Chloe reveals that she didn’t convince Stan to make up with Greg. Katie doesn’t even get the marital chips. She did something nice for no reason at all. That must suck.

If Katie had taken her problem to her daughter, Anna-Kat, she would probably suggest punching Chloe right in the face. This comes from Taylor’s attempts at parenting. When Taylor and Oliver find out that Anna-Kat is getting bullied on the playground, Taylor suggests punching the bully in the nose. It was how she dealt with a homophobic girl at her old school (although all her insults went way over Taylor’s head). Oliver knows that listening to Taylor is a horrible idea, but Taylor’s proud of teaching Anna-Kat a new way to manage interpersonal relationships.

Anna-Kat immediately lets the power go to her head. All she needs to do is punch someone in the face and she gets new toys and special privileges on the playground. Taylor’s created a monster, but it might not be all her fault. Anna-Kat was contemplating putting poison in people’s water-bottles long before Taylor offered her advice. Katie’s too busy stealing the chairs back to notice her daughter’s descent into violence-fueled tyranny. Now Anna-Kat gets the best chair in the backyard and Katie couldn’t be prouder.
